Meet Sage!

Sage is a spunky five-year old purebred golden retriever and she is one very special girl! Her foster family sure is enjoying her playfulness and zest for life!

Sage is unique and deserves a very special forever home. Sage has Progressive Retinal Atrophy and is losing her eyesight. There is no cure for this disease and she will eventually go blind. At this point, her foster parents think she can see shapes but they say impaired vision does not get in Sagey's way! Her other senses are completely making up for loss of sight and she still enjoys fun games of fetch with her foster dad. He lets her smell the tennis ball, then throws it. She waits until she hears it bounce and then runs toward the noise and sniffs around until she proudly finds the ball, returns it, and wags her tail for more!

Sage also loves to play and wrestle with her foster sister and other dogs. She does get a bit excited and sometimes her foster sister has to remind her know to play gentler. So, if you have a dog, it would be best if they like to play wrestle too:) There are cats at her foster home and after the intial curiosity, she ignores them now. In her first foster home, the neighborhood kids would stop by after school and loved taking her for walks through the neighborhood.

One day when her foster sister wasn’t home, Sage occupied her time by collecting all her doggy toys and bringing them outside by the fence, in hopes the neighbor dog would jump over and play with her. Sometimes she'll run out to the yard with a toy and enjoy having her foster parents chase her. Games like this, and hide and seek, are fun and stimulating ways to keep Sage involved and active.

Sage easily navigates through the house, knows where the toys are. Oh, and her nose works exceptionally well and she will always find her food bowl quickly! She has no problem navigating the big stairs at her house either.

Her foster mom says Sage LOVES her walks, but be ready for a workout because she has a fast pace! She does great on leash, but does need a bit of help if there are obstacles in the way. She absolutely loves to be outside taking in all the scents and sounds of the day! Sage loves hiking and even running errands with her foster family. She's so full of life and loves to explore.

Sage grew up without a lot of attention, maybe her family didn’t know how to act around a dog like her, that was losing her sight. But really she's just like any other golden and needs attention and lots of love and exercise. She's fairly independent and not the typical velcro dog, but since being in her foster home she has become more affectionate and now approaches her foster parents for pets.

Sage is such a sweet, spunky girl and is looking for a family dedicated to keeping her engaged in life and sharing in the fun while Sage explores the world! It is so enlightening to see life from Sage's viewpoint. You soon learn to appreciate more of the scents and sounds around too.

We have other families that have fostered and adopted vision impaired dogs that can share lots of information and tips with you. If you are interested in meeting Sage, please contact GRFR.
Meet Lucy!

Lucy is a seven-year old purebred female. Currently, she is in a foster home with two other dogs and gets along great with them. Previously, she has lived with cats and kids and did very well.
<BR

While her foster home is at work, she does great in a home when left alone and she has learned to use the doggie door. Lucy is a pleaser and would love to share a quiet life with someone. She loves going for walks and has to have everyone she meets pet her and give her love. She is perfectly happy sharing attention with the other pets in her foster home. She is gentle, calm and quiet.

Lucy is currently on thyroid medication which is inexpensive. She has some allergies, which can be common for goldens. Lucy takes benadryl every day to help her, but right now is not on any other medications. She is currently eating a special food. Lucy saw a vet for a couple of years and was on a lot of medication. It didn't really seem to help, so Lucy started seeing a holistic vet. It has really made a difference. She is eating an all-natural dog food and it will take time to get her coat and condition back to normal. We highly encourage the new owner to stick with the holistic course of action in Lucy's case.

Lucy is a special girl who deserves a wonderful home.
Meet Gypsy!

Gypsy is a three-year old purebred female. She gets along well with other dogs and because she is a bit shy and timid around new people, she would do better in a home with at least one other confident dog. Gypsy lived around barn kitties and sometimes they aren't very nice, so she grew up not liking cats. We recommend a home without them.

Gypsy likes to play and wrestle with other dogs. She will initiate play with them by bowing down and pawing them in the face. She shared toys and treats well with her foster brothers. Gypsy is very shy to meet in person, but in a home setting where she trusts the person, she is a completely different dog.

She knows how to use a doggie door, is housetrained, and crate trained. She sleeps through the night and loves to jump up in bed in the morning and cuddle with her foster mom.

Meet Maggie!

Miss Maggie is a four-year old purebred golden retriever and her foster mom says she is the absolute sweetest girl ever!

Maggie has a beautiful, soft, shiny red coat that gleems in the sunlight. She has a sweet soul that is longing to be loved. Sadly, Maggie spent her first four years as a breeder dog and while we're sure she was a loving mom and had gorgeous puppies, it's now Maggie's time to enjoy life as the young golden that she is. Maggie is building confidence now and learning how wonderful the golden life can be!

Since being in foster care, Maggie has made great progress. At first she was shy, timid, and relied on hiding to protect herself. But good news! Maggie is gaining confidence and now walks proudly with her head held high. She still has a long way to go to overcome her past, but she's off to a good start.

Since she wasn't socialized, she's leary of new people and places and sounds. To build her confidence she will need to be adopted by a loving, patient family, that has at least one other dog to help teach Maggie. What Maggie really needs is someone to love her, but not pity her. She did have a sad start to life, but to get her over her past she needs a confident, patient family who will encourage her to explore new places and meet new dogs and people. With Maggie, every thing new she learns is BIG! She needs a family that will be proud of each and every tiniest change.

Maggie thrives on the company of her foster brothers and sisters and is quick to curl up next to them. When outside, she follows their lead and is having fun exploring in the fields at her foster home. She is very sweet and gentle with the cats in her foster home too. In fact, the resident cats love to curl up next to Maggie when she's napping on her dog bed. She gives them a motherly little sniff and then sighs and naps alongside them.

Maggie has learned that people can be nice and she now follows her foster mom everywhere, from room to room, upstairs and down, inside and out. She's learning that she can trust people and now even takes treats from her foster mom's hand. This is a huge show of trust for this sweet girl.

If you can offer Maggie the special, loving home that she deserves let GRFR know. Maggie deserves the very best and will bring lots of love to the right family.

Hi! My name is Bubba and it’s not just a name, it’s an attitude. No, not really, but now that I have your attention please read on.

I am a five-year old purebred male who weighs about 60 pounds, so I am on the small side. I came to GRFR with Miss Maggie (107-09) and we are a lot alike. The first picture is life as it should be and the second picture shows what our lives used to be like: I am the one in the doghouse.

My foster mom thinks my face looks like a teddy bear and my foster sisters have helped me realize that being a dog is a really, really good thing! In just a few days, I have rewarded my foster mom with wagging my tail and being by her side. I don’t really respond to treats, toys and rawhides yet...can you imagine when I do? For now I am very content to be petted and talked to in a positive voice. I reward my foster mom by a sigh that kind of sounds like a short snore. She thinks it’s really funny. All I know is that I like being loved.

I have a heart of gold and am looking for a family with the same. Please don’t feel sorry for me because as I learn to trust that I am safe and secure, I will blossom! My foster mom says seeing me gain confidence is one of the best things that she has ever experienced! I am looking for a forever home with another dog that is ready to experience the same.

Meet Rider!

Rider is one of Lilly's puppies. He is the biggest boy and has gorgeous black wavy hair. He is very inquisitive and wags his tail a lot, which is so adorable. As of May 10th, he will be nine weeks old and can go to his forever home. The foster mom says it best 'Five little treasures, all in a row. One girl keeps four boys in tow. Mixed family with love to grow.'

Rider will have received one puppy shot when he goes to his forever home. Puppies need one initial shot and two booster shots before they should go out into public. Puppies should not leave your home or yard or be exposed to any other dogs unless you are certain they have been fully vaccinated and are older than six months. They should not go to parks or Petsmart or anywhere else until they have their last booster shot, as they could contract a potentially lethal virus. Rider will have received at least one dewormer when he is adopted. Puppies often need a few dewormers and we encourage you to discuss this with your vet.

The adoption fee for Rider is $250 and the following appointments will be covered if they are done at our vet. GRFR will cover the rabies shot at sixteen weeks and the spay/neuter surgery at 5-6 months. The adopter will be contacted by our Vet Coordinator when the time is near.

GRFR has a $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit for all dogs that have not been altered at time of adoption. The applicant that adopts Rider will be required to pay the $100 deposit. Once GRFR has confirmation of the neuter, the deposit will be refunded.

Meet Jack!

Jack is a handsome six year old purebred golden retriever and his foster mom calls him the “Jack of Hearts” because he will steal your heart away!

When he first came into foster care, it seemed he had not lived in a house much and he had to learn how to use the stairs, but he’s mastered that! And he’s even learned how to use the doggy door by following his foster brother in and out. He’s house trained and very well-behaved with free roam of the house.

Jack gets along great with other dogs, but his true love is his people. He loves to follow his foster mom everywhere, how typical of a golden! He loves to be brushed and petted and would lay quietly for hours if someone would pet him that long. He’s a funny boy and is always carrying a stuffed toy or two around. Unlike most goldens, Jack doesn’t even shred them!

He enjoys his walks and even an occasional game of fetch. He’s a pretty mellow boy and his foster mom says Jack is the quietest, most loving dog she has ever fostered! We think he would like a home with another dog to keep him company. He may also have impaired vision and will be visiting the vet to learn more.

Meet Major!

Meet Major! He’s a six year old purebred male golden retriever and we feel lucky to be able to help him find his forever home!

Major is a beautiful boy with a big block head and he’s very regal and proud. But, he’s got that typical golden goofy personality! He loves to be in the middle of everything so he can be sure he’s not missing anything. He’s a typical velcro golden too and likes to be with his people as much as he possibly can. He LOVES to cuddle!! At first, he wasn’t too thrilled about having to share his foster mom's attention with the other dogs, but he’s quickly learning that there’s enough love for all.

He’s already been through training and is very well-behaved. He not only knows basic commands, he also gives “high five” and if his foster mom tells him to “go get your toy” he happily searches for a toy and brings it to her. He’s housetrained and knows his regular daily routine of food, shot, and outside to potty and play.

That brings us to why we feel so lucky to have Major join our group. About three years ago, he was diagnosed with diabetes. With insulin shots, a healthy diet and consistent routine, he remained stable for quite some time. Recently, he moved back to Colorado with his family, and due to financial problems they could no longer afford his care. GRFR happily accepted Major into foster care where he has remained stable and we have high hopes to find him a special family to call his own!

Major can continue to be a happy-go-lucky boy as long as his family maintains regular feeding times, limiting snacks, daily insulin, and monitoring his sugar level. His foster mom is working with our vet now and once his insulin is adjusted and he's stable, we’ll be able to provide an estimate of monthly costs for his needs. If you meet Major you’d never know he has diabetes, so give this guy a chance!

If you’re interested in meeting Major let GRFR know. We have lots of helpful information to share with his family and once you learn about controlling his diabetes, you’ll see it’s not difficult at all and he can enjoy the healthy, happy life he deserves!

Meet Amber!

Amber is, we think, named after the valuable gemstone that is so prized worldwide because of its beautiful coloring. Amber’s foster mom says that Amber is a gem for sure!

Amber came to GRFR’s attention when she was featured on a radio show that showcased stray dogs. She was such an awesome dog that the radio station was trying to find her a home. GRFR stepped in, rescued this jewel, and brought her into foster care.

Although we don’t know much about Amber’s background, we do know that she is a one and a half year old female golden/lab mix. She is quite tall and quite thin. Amber’s foster home thinks that she was once very loved, since she has such perfect house manners and is so very affectionate. Amber is fully housetrained and has not touched anything in her foster home. She sleeps in bed with her foster parents and does not make a peep all night.

Amber loves riding in the car, especially if she is going to the dog park. Unlike many dogs who are new to a foster home, she stays close to her people off leash. She would do well in a hiking family, since she will turn on a dime when called and absolutely adores being outside with her people.

Amber is an expert in fetching! She brought the ball back about fifty times her first day at the dog park, holding it near her foster dad’s hand so he would not have to bend over to pick it up. She knows sit, down, and stay, and has already learned how to use the doggy door. Outside, Amber is very athletic and can leap tall buildings in a single bound! Inside, she is calm, mellow, very loving, and just wants to lay down next to her family. Although Amber is not a barker, she is very alert and will let her family know if she hears a strange noise outside.

She gets along well with other dogs and loves everyone she meets. Amber gets a bit anxious when her owners leave, but is much calmer when she's with another dog. For this reason, we recommend she be adopted into a home with another dog.

She willingly shares her toys and her food. Amber is looking for a forever home that has the time to continue her training, take her on hikes, play fetch with her, and, most importantly, love her all the days of her life. Could you be the one to adopt this loving girl?

Meet Brandon!

Brandon is a sweet one year old golden mix. He's a smaller guy - only about 40 pounds. Brandon loves to play with his foster brother, also a golden mix. While visting a friend's home with his foster mom, Brandon was able to meet two big goldens and had so much fun with them. Although he was only 1/2 their size he had no problem keeping up!

Brandon is good on a leash and enjoys walks through the neighborhood. Recently, his foster family took him to the mountains. They learned that he loves to hike, splash around in water, and just run around off-leash.

Although he loves to play, Brandon settles down nicely in the house. His foster mom often finds him napping under her bed where it is nice and dark. He has learned that couches are great too and is happy to snuggle with his foster family while they watch TV.

Brandon is house trained and is being crate trained. His foster family leaves him out at night, but crates him while at work. He does have a thing for shoes, but that is easily solved by keeping them off the floor.

Brandon can be timid of new situations and people. Because of this, he needs a confident owner to assure him he is safe. Once he knows he is safe, he relaxes and warms up. Because new commotion can scare him at first, a home without young children would be best. Also, he does like to chase cats so no feline brothers or sisters please.

Brandon is looking for the perfect family. Could that be you?
All the puppies love to play with each other and toys, such a joy to watch!

Kennedy will have received one puppy shot when she goes to her forever home. Kennedy will have received one dewormer when she's adopted. Puppies often need a few dewormers and we encourage you to discuss this with your vet.

The adoption fee for Kennedy is $250 and the following appointments will be covered if they are done at our vet. GRFR will cover the rabies shot at sixteen weeks and the spay/neuter surgery at 5-6 months. The adopter will be contacted by our Vet Coordinator when the time is near.

Meet Bear!

Bear is a big, strong, cuddly seven-year old purebred golden boy. His foster mom says he is amazing!

Bear came to GRFR because his family no longer had time to devote to him. He has such a wonderful personality that you cannot help but be charmed by this big boy! He has a beautiful, almost blond, coat and is such a handsome guy.

He gets along great with his foster brother, Milo, and is almost as big as him too (Milo is a GRFR dog too and he is a black lab/great dane mix). He has such a mellow and lovable personality! He loves to get and give hugs and is an easy going guy.

His foster mom says he settled into the routine nicely, enjoys his mealtimes, is well behaved, and just wants to be loved!! He’s curious of his new surroundings and she thinks he’d be perfectly happy as the neighborhood dog, spending all of his free time greeting the neighbors and roaming from house to house. He gets along great with his foster brother, but is truly more interested in his people. He loves any and all of the attention he can get!

Bear has lived with kids before and was fine, although anyone with small kids will want to consider if they’ll mind being knocked over by mistake, as playful goldens often do. He’s great with other dogs and has lived with cats too.

Bear will sit for a treat, enjoys his walks, and has been very well behaved in the house. He hasn’t chewed anything or dug in the yard - just a happy go lucky boy!

Bear is a pleasant balance of goofy, lovable golden personality, along with a cuddly mellower side. He does enjoy his walks & socializing with the neighbors, but is happy to settle down for some pets in the evenings.

Can you give Bear the wonderful forever home he deserves?
Starla is a bit shy at first, but after just a few days in her foster home she adjusted to the new routine. She is opening up more and enjoys being part of the family. She is a quiet, well-mannered lady and is very cuddly. She LOVES belly rubs and loves to cuddle with her people.

She gets along well with her foster dog siblings, cats, and kids too. She’s very gentle and has a sweet personality.

Starla loves her walks and is full of energy when she’s outside! And although full of energy, her foster mom says she is “an angel on leash.” What more could you ask for?

Hailey is a fun-loving one year old female purebred yellow lab and her foster mom says she will bring lots of love and laughter to her forever family!

She is an affectionate girl, who will give endless kisses and roll over to have her belly pet at a moment’s notice! She’s such an adorable girl and so full of personality that it’s impossible not to fall in love her!

Hailey is a typical, energetic, rambunctious young lab and will need an active family that can enjoy long walks, hikes, trips to the dog park, and maybe even running! Oh, and Hailey LOVES water!! She will play in her water bowl, a puddle, a pool, or better yet a lake to splash and swim in! If there is water nearby, Hailey will find it so be prepared for muddy paws! Her foster family is having so much fun watching her play and swim, she’s such a happy girl, so full of life!

She especially loves the teenage girl at her foster home, who takes her for long walks. But Hailey also LOVES to play with her lab mix foster brother. The first day at her foster home, the two of them ran and played in the back yard for two hours nonstop! She loves to wrestle, so we’d really love for her to find a home with another young dog that will play with her. For some reason, Hailey is a bit shy of men. She will run right up to a girl or woman, but hesitates around men. Her foster dad is working with her on that and she’s becoming more trusting of him.

Hailey’s a big dog (yes, a little overweight) and very strong so she will need a family that will commit to joining her for training. She’s very smart and will learn quickly so give her a chance to show off in class!

If you are looking for a young, energetic dog to have fun and be active with, Hailey might be the girl for you!

He gets along great with his foster brother and sister and even likes the kitty. He is as gentle as can be and is such a love.

Clarence came from a hording situation, so has never lived inside before. Everythng is new and sometimes scary. He has quickly learned the stairs and is now a pro. Quick movements and sudden noises do frighten him, but he is getting better everyday and truly is such a happy boy. He seems to always be wagging is tail with delight!

Clarence always likes to have a stuffed animal in his mouth. It is the cutest thing! He makes his foster mom laugh with his excitment of now having the life he should have always had. He loves to sleep in bed with his foster mom and shares nicely with his foster siblings. He seems to adore children and seeks them out at the park. His foster home doesn't have children though.

Clarence would do best in a home with another dog. He doesn't play or wrestle, but that could come with time. He has a lot of energy and will be an amazing companion for a lucky someone. He settle down nicely inside and just wants to be by his person. He also walks well on a leash.

He loves to follow his foster mom everywhere and is a wonderful shadow. He's not a fan of getting in cars, but his foster mom is working on that and now will get in the car on his own because he knows he's always going someplace fun!

He's never had an accident in his foster home, but will need someone to continue taking him outside a lot and giving him praises. He wants to please like a typical golden. He doesn't know any commands, but his foster home is working on the basics. Clarence would love to attend a training class with his new owner.
Meet Stella!

Stella is a 3-1/2 year old female golden mix. She is gorgeous! Whatever she is mixed with, her personality is definitely all golden. The first word that pops into her foster mom’s head when describing her is “sweet.”

She loves her trips to Chatfield dog park and everyone there. She loves big and little dogs, loves all the people, and especially loves the children she meets. Stella came from a home with a daycare and not that we would encourage this, but she could chew on a bone and have a small child laying on her. She also helped save the guinea pig when he got out of his cage. She gently picked him up in her mouth and brought him to her mom. That is what a sweetheart of a dog she is and how gentle she can be.

Stella is great with other dogs, big and small, and will wrestle occasionally with her golden foster brothers. They play a bit rougher than her, but she tries to get in there once in a while. Overall though, Stella is a fairly mellow girl. She’s easygoing and just wants to be included in what you’re doing. She likes going for walks and to the dog park and has energy for all those activities, but is really the dog that just kind of hangs out.

Stella loves the kitty in her foster home and sleeps with him cuddled up next to her. She lived in a newer area and they didn’t have that many trees, so she doesn’t really know what squirrels are. It only took a day to figure out those fast critters with a crazy tail are pretty fun to watch. Her new job is protecting the kitty from the squirrel in the tree. It is adorable to watch.

Stella has Addison’s Disease and most people don’t know what that is. Luckily, her foster mom has another dog in the home with the same special needs. We are very educated on what that means and are familiar with the disease, so can definitely pass that information along to anyone interested in Stella. Addison’s affects the adrenal glands in both dogs and people. The glands stop producing corticosteroids and a synthetic version needs to be supplemented. Everyone needs those steroids to get through the day, the most notable being adrenaline.

There are two treatments for Addison’s. One is an injection that cost over $100/month and the other is a daily pill, which is only $15/month. Stella had been receiving the injection, but because of cost we are changing her to the daily medication. That will start on June 9th and her foster home will keep a close eye on her.

Addison’s is completely treatable and really isn’t that hard to manage with medication. Stress is especially bad for dogs with Addison’s, as their body can’t produce extra steroids on its’ own. Prednisone is the supplement for that and it’s also a very inexpensive medication. All dogs love routine and that’s important for an Addison’s dog. It doesn’t mean that the household has to be calm, it can be daily trips to the dog park or lots of exercise, just as long as the dog can adjust to the schedule. One very famous Addisonian was JFK. Think of how much stress a U.S. president goes through on a daily basis?

Stella currently weighs 87 pounds and her foster home has two very energetic goldens there. We believe that she will lose weight, just in the amount of exercise that she’ll be getting. So far, she isn’t interested in swimming but she does enjoy wading and laying down in the water once in a while. She also doesn’t seem to possess the retriever instinct of actually retrieving anything. She’ll watch you throw it and then go about whatever she was doing. She still loves to go to the park though.

Stella loves car rides and has learned that car = fun things for her to do. She is completely housetrained and knows basic obedience commands. She also knows her name and responds well at the off-leash dog park. She shares toys and food well with others. She likes to cuddle with her foster mom and the resident kitty. She is a typical golden and loves attention from her people and follows her foster mom everywhere. Stella has a lot of fur, whatever she is mixed with is fluffy and furry. She will probably be getting a summer-do soon, to make her more comfortable in the hotter weather.

Stella is quite a girl. Her personality is amazing. She does have a disease, but it is treatable. She will pay you back a thousand times over for what you do for her. She is loyal, loving, and she truly deserves the very best home. This girl will be a hard one for her foster home to let go. That’s how special she is.

Meet Bernard!

Bernard is a four-year old purebred golden retriever with a wonderfully playful disposition. He's a little shy at first, but warms up very quickly! His favorite pastimes are chewing on the many bones lying around, playing tug with his foster mom, and chasing the ball outside (he even brings it back most of the time).

He is getting along wonderfully with his two foster brothers, although he is mostly focused on interacting with people. He would do well as an only dog or as a companion and he's done well with cats. He is also very well behaved with no accidents, good manners in his crate, and hasn't chewed on anything he shouldn't!

Bernard is funny guy who loves his tummy rubs! He has a bouncy little dance his does on his front feet when he get excited for food or toys or just because he feels good! He enjoys whole body scratches that he
provides for himself by laying on his back and wiggling around on the rug. It's hilarious to watch! Bernard has a gentle soul and is simply looking for someone to love him like he deserves to be loved.
