Hed Kandi teams up with Groovenite.com for the last BIG party in 2009. Don't miss this event!

Before the end of the year there is still time for a BIG house party in Aarau. What better combination can there be than 2 big labels coming together. The crew of the world famous and glamorous house label fly into Switzerland for another great party with their very own DJ John Jones.

John came to link up with Hed Kandi in late 2000 because of his ability to read and rock a dancefloor. He is one of the team’s longest serving DJs and has had the pleasure of touring as a worldwide resident to cities such as New York, Sydney, Rio, San Francisco, Bogotá (Columbia), Miami, Ibiza and Barcelona to name a few.

Versatile and intensely creative in his style, and with a vibrant personality, he projects these characteristics into his sets and onto the crowd. He revels in the opportunity to play his music to people who are eager to hear “As a DJ there is nothing better than playing to a really up-for-it crowd” he says.

The strive to impress and connect with the crowd when he plays has established John as one of the most respected headline Hed Kandi DJs.

On the production front, he is one half of “Beaver & Jones” who have released tracks on Hed Kandi & Peppermint Jam. He is also part of “The Collective” alongside Martin Ikin & Steve Norman. He has also individually produced remixes for Roger Sanchez “Stealth” Imprint working on Miguel Picasso’s “Don’t Stop”

Hed Kandi teams up with one of Switzerlands most respected and long running house label & magazine Groovenite.com. Celebrating 10th anniversary in 2010, Groovenite is proud to be supporting the Hed Kandi crew once more with outstanding sets by Maik Pedersen & Miles Numan.

A special warm up will be provided by Le Baron.

“Only clubs, which have nothing to offer, still count on guestlists. Most of Zurich’s nightclubs say: entertainment is NOT for free any more.. “. This is the beginning of a very interesting article we found on Tages Anzeiger Online.

Owners from clubs like Kaufleuten oder Club Q say, that guestlists should not be offered any more. With guestlists Clubs throw money out of the window they need. The less people pay entrance fees, the less clubs can get more exclusive acts.

David Guetta is #3 of this year's DJ Mag Top 100 DJs after Armin van Buuren and Tiesto.

Every year DJ Magazine is looking for the most popular DJ. Although not all people in the industry think that it’s important to be in this charts, DJ Mag says that it’s the most democratic choice. Peter wrote in the feedback of an ADE article:

The Top 100 DJs is not about whether people deserve to be in it. It is simply about who is the most popular DJ in the world. Fundamentally it is about democracy – letting the people choose. The Poll does not reflect DJ Mag’s tastes, particularly.
Mobilizing people to vote for them is a common practice in every democracy. However, we ban DJs from offering incentives. We are keen for DJs to approach their fans – it, generally, means more people voting. There are, of course, DJs who think they are above canvassing for votes – it is usually those ones that bitch about the results!
The Top 100 DJs is the most representative Poll there is, purely based on the numbers of people voting and the countries they’re voting from. Once again we don’t own the Poll, we don’t necessarily approve of the results, we are merely the guardians of a free, democratic forum.

This year it’s again the year of the Trance-boys Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Number 3 is with David Guetta the first House DJ. Big jumps also for Swedish House Mafia Boys Axwell (#14, +6), Steve Angello (#20, +43) and Sebastian Ingrosso (#25).

See the whole list here: www.djmag.com/top100

Smoking ban in Switzerland to come into force next May.

The cabinet says the smoking ban approved by parliament last year will be implemented nationwide from May 1, 2010.
The law is aimed at protecting non-smokers in public spaces, including clubs, schools, hospitals, shopping malls, restaurants and cinemas.

It sets minimum standards and allows cantonal authorities to introduce stricter rules but also includes exemptions. Restaurants have the right to set up specially designated and well ventilated areas for smokers.

Restaurant and bar owners have claimed the ban infringes on personal freedom and restricts business interests.

“Certain opponents simply are not willing to accept the rule, because they fear that a preventive measure is sufficient and they could lose a business advantage,” said Interior Minister Pascal Couchepin at a news conference on Wednesday.

Eighteen of Switzerland’s 26 cantons have already introduced smoking bans.

Are you on the road, on the airport waiting, or somewhere else with loads of time and want to check out new tracks for playing at your gig at the weekend? Traxsource has its own web app now. Simply go to

http://iphone.traxsource.com

And click the “Add To Homescreen” button to make it accessible as an app on your iPhone.
Our test worked well. We used a WLAN and it went pretty fast. Of course you will need a flate contract, if you listen to the samples on the road. It’s a good thing if you want to check out a selected number of tracks. We still prefer the main website if you. But it’s a really good thing, if you hear a track in a club somewhere and want it to search it, now you can do with this app.

Some fans are so supporting for their favourite DJs, they make a Tattoo with the name of them. As we heard that’s the case for djs such as for example Steve Angello. Also in Switzerland Mr. Da-Nos says, some fans have his name on their skin. With his latest CD “Tattoo” Da-Nos gets himself tattooed himself as a “thank you” for all his fans, as he told Blick.ch:

Last day of our 2009 trip to Amsterdam Dance Event with panels by Simon Dunmore and some great parties

The hangover is already bigger than yesterday. But we’re happy we’re not the only one. The conference is not very busy at 11am. Some new faces are around that scheduled meetings for friday morning. Probably newbies, who else puts meeting after the big thursday night events? But also Simon Dunmore looked a bit early. Not that he had any meetings then, but he did a panel at noon. The idea of his panel was great we found. He said: “When I go to panels I always expect something to get to know. That’s why I thought to I just make an Q&A for you to ask questions“. And the hour went through very quickly. Here are some examples:

10th year anniversary of defected is also 10th year of napster – aware of that?
Simon Dunmore: With the knowledge of now would have wanted to launch label earlier. But could enjoy it for 3-4 years as Napster needed a few years.

Reaction of the illegal downloading?
SD: still believed in old school philosophy of how people buy records. If the packaging is great, it’s great value for money so people still buy it to collect. Still his philosopyh now. But it gets harder for people that WANT to buy CDs can’t. Because there’s always less shops and some of them take the CDs out soon to make place for new CDs

Advantage of Digital Shops?
SD:It’s good for the artists. If he had a good gig somewhere and the people liked it, the can buy it the next day online. It used to be different with CDs, as in some countries it was difficult to get all the Defected CDs

Could Defected exist of just putting out records?
SD: Yes, we could do it, but with 3-4 people only. But it would be too boring for him, as he likes to get out, meet people, business partners, etc.

Biggest mistake?
SD: When started he was not very aware of the money, so maybe printed too many shirts, or put too much money into a remix. Nowadays he looks more on the sales

After this long day we headed straight to Panama Club for the Defected Press Event (we will talk later about that) for some interviews and then the Strictly Defected and MN2S party. Well all that we can say: It was great, we didn’t sleep enough and the weather could have been better. But hey… It’s ADE… no worries, we’ll be back :)

Day 2 of our trip to Amsterdam Dance event. Interesting Panel with DJ Paulette and a great night with Hardsould, Simon Dunmore and the swiss mafia at Club NL

After the first day of just arriving, saying hello to some people and enjoying the first event at Melkweg now this is the day where we started our conference live. We had some very interesting meetings with people from international labels, to whom we presented our website and our future plans for our 10th year anniversary in 2010. Between that we had time to attend a very interesting panel called “Ladies In The House”. Our main reason to listen to this panel was our friend DJ Paulette. We had her on one of our first Groovenite Events and since then we are in a good contact. It was also very interesting to see, because Paulette did something very special. She made here way up in the UK and then moved to Paris where she started from scratch. It’s impressive how she got to the top again but of course, we never had a doubt. She talked with some other famous female djs/promoters/singers like Lottie (GB), Shinedoe (NL), JES (US) and Olga Zegers (ID&T, NL). Here are some quotes of this panel:

Where are Female DJs?
In the Top 100 DJ charts of DJ Mag, 98 are men and only 2 are female djs (although it was mentioned, that the top 100 dj charts is not taken very seriously, because it’s just who promotes more get more votes)

Female DJs
Paulette: There were hardly any female djs at UK festivals this year
Lottie: But we would hate it to be just booked because we’re female
Shinedoe: you need a good team behind you that help you (get bookings, promote)
Paulette: you can do all that (f.e. Paulette.tv), but it’s not guaranteed that it helps (like David Guetta)

What to do to get more attentiveness?
to help make a name: build your profile, making records and compilations

Why do men think that female (djs/promoters) are often bitchy?
Shinedoe: professionalism: when you say to a man something and he doesn’t like, he says: she’s bitchy
but it’s just professionalism

After this interesting day at the conference we headed out for a great party at Club NL with Hardsoul, Simon Dunmore, and many more. It was like another big meeting of some great djs there like Jamie Lewis, DJ Meme, Panevino, Morten Trust, Blacksoul, etc.

Day 1 of our trip to Amsterdam Dance Event. Already very busy...

So here we are again. Boarding our flight from Basel Euroairport to Amsterdam. It doesn’t seem like it has been one whole year since we came back from the last Amsterdam Dance Event. But October is back and so are we. SWISS Air Lines takes us to Schiphol Airport in a bit more than a Coke, a small sandwich (which is actually just a bread and some dressing.. but HEY, at least they have one for us for free. EasyJet does not even serve, when you want to PAY). After the long taxiing to the gate and the neverending walk to the luggage belts our bags arrived safely. We decided then to take the train to Amsterdam Centraal instead of taking the Taxi directly to the hotel. This was very easy, but getting a ticket for the Tram to the Hotel was much more complicated. Well, not as much as we expected. We learned that you can buy tickets from the driver… Well next time we know.

Check In at Hotel Le Coin was very easy and friendly as usual (We told the lady we feel like coming home every year we see here at the front desk. She does the same LOL). After changing a bit we decided to go to Felix Meritis to check in for the ADE. Outside already first meetings on fresh air…. Think we saw Richard Earnshaw and Baggi Begovic there. Also at ADE, very quick and nice staff. The Bag looks good and all important material is in it as it seems (don’t forget the Bible… with all important addresses ;). We ran into Lewis Ferrer and had a small talk at how sad it is that the Reelgroove Event at Mansion was cancelled due to bancrupcy of the Club.

As we were very hungry we went outside in direction to our favourite Amsterdam quick lunch restaurant LUST. On the way bumped into DJ Paulette and Defected Boss Simon Dunmore for a short talk. Nice nice, can’t wait for the Strictly Event (and of course meeting all the DJs at the exclusive Press Event before).

LUST-lunch was great. Clubsandwich tasted as we had it in mind… Maybe next time we go for the Bagels? Shall we make the meetings next time here?

Before heading back to Hotel we stopped at the Machouse. Unortunately they didn’t have the magic mouse yet. We decided to give it another try on Friday. So back to hotel for some rest. Looking into the bags there’s always a lot of material which is of NO use. Escpecially this year there are some old magazines from the summer? What are we supposed to do with them? Well at least there are some goodies like a Martin Solveig Mix CD, etc.

After Dinner we headed straight to Melkweg, as there was a showcase Simian Mobile Disco. We arrived just in time to hear one of our favourite tracks “Audacity of Huge”. The showcase was really great. They played all, from House, to Elektropop, to Techno and Progressive Acid…. wicked! After that we waited for the set of Steve Lawler. The warm up dj before him Terry Toner did a great job to warm up the crowd! Lawler set was great, at the end a bit flat. But we enjoyed it anyway. On the way back to our hotel we also made a quick stop at Escape. The Club was still pretty full and Armin van Buuren played a very melodic trancey set…

Off to bed then. Looking to some very interesting meetings on Thursday.
