The first-ever Republican midterm convention is being held in Dallas, Texas.

President Trump does the opening keynote tonight. Two nights of America First, border, energy, parents, paychecks, and a November reminder that midterms are not a nap.

The common-sense Republican side includes:

Borders that exist.

Cops who show up.

No DEI racist policies.
A Constitution that still has a Senate, an Electoral College, and a president.
Energy that works when the weather doesn’t.
Kids who get to be kids.

Election integrity.
A country that doesn’t apologize for being a country.

Now the other side.The Democratic Socialists of America put it in writing.

Abolish the Senate. Scrap the Electoral College.

Replace the presidency and the Supreme Court with something “subordinate to Congress.”

Defund and eventually abolish police and prisons.

End ICE.

Amnesty for everybody. Open the map and call it morality.

Medicare for all, included anyone who walks into the country illegally.

They say it isn’t extreme. That’s the tell.

When “abolish the USA starter pack” is your platform, you’ve left the adult table.

So the contrast isn’t complicated. One team is in Dallas talking about winning the next two years. The other team is talking about deleting the future.

Will Mitch McConnell Return To The Senate?

The Senate crawls back from recess on September 14. The marble hallways will fill up. The cameras will click. And the question hanging over the chamber is the same one America has been asking all summer: Where’s Mitch?

Not “how’s Mitch.” Not “what’s Mitch thinking.” Just… where.

Because the longest-running turtle in Washington has been MIA since June. Last recorded vote: June 11.  Hospitalized June 14 after a fall. Then weeks of silence. Then rehab. Then “recovering at home.” Then more silence. Meanwhile the rest of the country is expected to clock in on time.

This did not start in June. The slow-motion fade has been public for years.

March 2023: fall, concussion, broken rib.
July 2023: freeze at the podium. Twenty seconds of dead air. Staff shuffle. “I’m fine.”
August 2023: freeze again.

Then more falls. Stairs. Luncheons. Polio-leg explanations. Flu-like hospital stay in February 2026. Another fall in June. Mild pneumonia. Rehab. Home.

Still no public Mitch.

Staff kept the faith. Leaders said they “spoke with him.” Kentucky colleagues said the goal is September 14. Trust us, he’s in there.

Then came the proof-of-life photos. Mitch with a newspaper. Mitch looking oddly fresh. The internet did what the internet does and immediately asked if somebody hit “generate healthy senator.” Fact-checkers swore the official shots were real. A lot of regular people still squinted. When your boss vanishes for months, a glossy still photo is not the same thing as walking onto the floor.

John Thune runs the Senate. Mitch is a lame-duck who already announced he is not running again. Kentucky still has a seat. The country still has votes. And Washington still has a talent for treating an empty desk like a strategy.

So here we are. Six days out. One historic week ahead. One missing senator.Will Mitch McConnell actually show up on September 14?

Iranian Parking Lot

After I graduated from college in the summer of 1979, I got a full-time job at the local newspaper. A few months later, 66 Americans were taken hostage in Tehran by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard—the same people who brought in Khomeini to replace the Shah.

The managing editor assigned me to draw small cartoons that showed American determination in the face of Iran’s act of war. They would appear above the newspaper’s front page nameplate.

I had no problem coming up with ideas. I thought the crisis would last only a few weeks at best, but no—under a weak Jimmy Carter it lasted an astounding 444 days. Eventually I drew them weekly and now I can’t remember much of what I drew, but eventually the newspaper did a story about me and the hostage cartoons. I still have the clipping somewhere.

We knew the IRGC and the mullahs are a stubborn bunch who would fight to the death—surrender is out of the question for them. We believe America’s military can prevail without sending boots on the ground. All that said, I might find myself in a similar situation to my first foray into editorial cartooning. The war against Iran is nearly 50 years old—they never stopped fighting and shouting ‘Death to America!” even if Obama and Biden all but surrendered. And so here I am drawing cartoons featuring mullahs in funny hats once again—it completes a big cycle in my career. Cartoon bookends, so to speak.

Everyone hopes Trump will finish the war quickly, and maybe the Persian citizens in Iran can finally have some freedom. I just hope Trump doesn’t have to turn Iran into a parking lot first.

The New Feminists

The new feminists have a new cause: the killer is the victim, and the victim is optional.

Lindsay Clancy admitted she strangled her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and baby Callan, 8 months — with exercise bands in the basement while her husband was sent out for dinner. A Massachusetts jury just deadlocked, and the case ended in a mistrial. Outside the courthouse, women in pink showed up like it was a charity walk. The children barely got a mention. The mother who killed them got the sympathy, the signs, and the soft lighting.

Then there are the Luigi girls. Luigi Mangione gunned down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in the street. He has since pleaded guilty to federal charges in that killing. His fan club still treats him like a folk hero. They call it protest. They call it justice. They talk about Thompson’s children as if losing their father was a public service. A man is dead, and the merch table is open.

Now add Tyler Robinson, charged with murdering Charlie Kirk. Instead of waiting for a courtroom, a cottage industry of conspiracy theories sprang up overnight. He wasn’t there. He was a patsy. Kirk isn’t even dead. Anything except the simplest, ugliest fact: a man was shot in public, and somebody has to answer for it.

Resistance is Futile

About 70 percent of Americans don’t want AI data centers in their backyards. Trump thinks communities rejecting them will end up “backwards and poor.” I guess I’ll end up backward and poor because I don’t want to live anywhere near one. I realize Trump has gone ‘all in’ on data and wants to  build the centers and AI infrastructure to make sure we don’t need to lose the AI race to China. Maybe he can build one at Mar-a-Lago.

Why are we in a race at all? Why are we dashing at breakneck speed to allow AI to do things for us—and control us? The finish line might be a dystopian system—and if that’s the case, China has already won. Citizens there have no privacy or freedom. Their faces are scanned and their movements tracked. They are pressured to meet social credit scores and if they don’t measure up, they could be castigated from society.

It’s already happening in America. Flock cameras are springing up everywhere. Our cars, phones, and TVs listen to what we say and all our of our data goes through Palantir and government bureaucrats. They know what we are doing, but we can’t know what they are doing—just like in China. Our 4th Amendment is ignored.

We are racing because huge corporations have invested $1.6 trillion, prompting some to say AI is the latest bubble. The real reason for the race is money, not because AI is important for ‘data to reign.’ Meanwhile, Chinese AI companies released powerful open-weight and free AI models that challenge top U.S. systems. It’s no wonder there’s a race—US companies want their huge investments to pay off as soon as possible.

Elon Musk is building massive (and massively expensive) data centers. Naturally he wants Americans to cheer him for that. Musk announced he detected a Chinese bot network with 200 accounts specifically posting anti-data center propaganda on social media. As a result, any American who objects to a data center in their backyard is automatically suspected of being a Chinese boiler room operative—or an American who has been misled by such propaganda. I guess that makes me Chinese because I’m one of those who think we are progressing way too fast with AI. We now see AI slop everywhere. It is taking away a lot of desk jobs from Americans. Commercial artists are being replaced with AI and perhaps editorial cartoonists are next. The rush to replace all office jobs with AI will benefit near-trillionaires like Musk, but will robots pay social security?

Data centers make noise—an annoying hum that causes headaches and anxiety. They require a lot of water to cool off computer equipment. Some areas in our country don’t have enough water. Data centers use a tremendous lot of electricity at a time when many can’t afford their rising electric bills. AI certainly benefits big corporations, but as for most of us, we will remain backward and poor.

*Polemic:  

A polemic is a fierce, one-sided argument written or spoken to attack an idea, a person, or a side—and to persuade people you’re right.

Think of it as debate with the gloves off: not a calm exchange, but a pointed takedown meant to wound the other position.

Piker’s polemics are right where he left them: in a leaking DSA jar, dripping all over the internet.

He pickled “America deserved 9/11,” then pickled the walk-back.
He pickled “Hamas is a thousand times better,” then pickled the “I meant it.”
He pickled “it doesn’t matter if rape happened,” then pickled the shrug.
He pickled “Jews will invite the action,” then pickled the clarification.
He pickled socialism from a mansion, revolution from a Porsche, and “eat the rich” from a kitchen that never missed a meal.

Then came the extras: the shock-collar clip, the kicked UK visa, the Death-to-America seasoning, and enough caveats to fill a second jar. Same brine. Same stream. Same sour aftertaste.

Presidents have been playing the name game for years. The only new development is that Democrats and a few official Canadians are acting like this is the first time anyone ever picked up a pen.

Obama and Biden renamed plenty of things. The biggest one was taking Mount McKinley and turning it into Denali. Trump put McKinley back on the mountain. He also renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. Now Lake Ontario has officially become Lake America on the U.S. side.

The USGS already updated its maps. Google followed. Apple is still clutching the old names like they are family heirlooms.That is when the meltdown started. Suddenly renaming a landmark is an international crisis… unless the last guy did it. Then it was “restoring heritage,” “correcting history,” or “long overdue.”

Funny how the outrage only shows up when the new name has the word America in it. The truth is simpler. Names change. Maps change. Politicians love a good rebrand. Trump just happens to enjoy doing it out loud, with a marker, and a grin. Trump is the master troll.

Canada can keep calling it whatever it wants. New York can keep calling it whatever it wants. Meanwhile, official U.S. maps now say Gulf of America and Lake America. The rest of the scoreboard will catch up one app update at a time.

Milo Yiannopoulos was arrested by ICE in New Orleans and is scheduled to deported to Great Britain. Apparently Milo overstayed his visa by many years. He even worked as a Congressional intern for Marjorie Taylor Greene and lived in her home in Rome, Georgia for awhile .

About 10 yers ago Milo was a prominent and highly vocal supporter of Donald Trump. Now he has completely rejected the president and his MAGA followers. He can be considered part of the anti-Trump circle, which includes Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, and Candace Owens. Many of these people exhibit extreme political shifts as a means to garner attention and maintain an audience and boost their finances.

If Canada doesn’t like it, too bad. Maybe Trump can do more than change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. Perhaps he can annex Canada and make it part of the US. This would break the English globalist, royal grip on that country. We already know that Alberta would be all for it. Forget making states out of D.C. and Puerto Rico. Making Alberta our 51st state would be a welcome addition. The people there are conservative and they have plenty of oil.

The WNBA has a simple problem: it still can’t define what a woman is… but it sure knows how to eject fans who can.

Sophie Cunningham said the quiet part out loud — protect girls from biological men in sports. The league’s response? Task forces, memos, and calling anyone who agrees a “hater” or “bad-faith actor.” Meanwhile, former NBA players are trolling the draft by declaring themselves eligible, and fans wearing “XX-XY” shirts or “Woman = Adult Human Female” get the security treatment.

America’s 250th birthday celebration continues with the Freedom 250 Grand Prix roaring down the track.

This weekend in Washington, D.C., real Indy Cars are flying around a brand-new 1.7-mile street circuit on the National Mall — 147 laps for a full 250 miles — hitting speeds over 170 mph on the Pennsylvania Avenue straight with the Capitol and Washington Monument as the backdrop.

Top drivers such as Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin, Pato O’Ward, and Alex Palou are putting on a show for the pro-Trump crowds packing the stands, celebrating 250 years of American freedom the only way that feels right: With horsepower and a checkered flags.

The big orange machine, number 1, is out in front and pulling away. President Trump has both hands on the wheel and the throttle wide open, steering America toward a stronger, freer future while the competition keeps spinning out.

Bringing up the rear,  AOC in her DSA helmet, pedaling a little pink tricycle and screaming “Tax the cars!” Her presidential ambitions still need training wheels.

Nearby, a lefty judge is bouncing along in a wooden wagon, waving a gavel and yelling “Stop Trump!” like that strategy has ever worked.

Mitch McConnell is already upside-down in the ditch. Mitch looks shell shocked.

Gavin Newsom, the classic limousine liberal, ran off the road while honking “No fair!”

And Elon Musk observes from above in his flying car.

The rest of the pack keeps changing drivers, rewriting the rules mid-race, and blaming the track. Meanwhile the lead car just keeps lapping them.

Two hundred and fifty years of American freedom didn’t happen by accident. It happened because Americans were willing to drive hard, ignore the backseat critics, and stay focused on the finish line.
