The four of us have had quite a lot going on and haven't had the time or schedule overlap to sit down and do a good show for you all.

But don't worry! We aren't going on another hiatus or anything. Right now we're aiming to record a show some time next weekend, but I can't make any promises on that because who knows what could come up between now and then.

I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know that we aren't dead and that there will be a new podcast in the semi-near future. With a shorter than usual show, and a full cast (well, for half of the show anyway -- gasp!), the boys and I sat down to discuss what we've been playing and how much we love Dead Space in the first segment.

In the second segment Ommy joins us for a discussion about the recent global recession and how it is currently affecting the gaming industry as well as how it may affect it in the future. This is definitely an interesting discussion that shouldn't be missed -- and at just under an hour long running time, you really have no excuse not to listen in!

You all may have noticed the recent Twitter feed we've added to the blog (to the left of this post). We decided it would be a good way to make small updates concerning the show without making new blog entries and spamming up subscriber's RSS feeds. We'd really appreciate it if you'd follow us on Twitter and help spread the word about our podcast! (Or just leave us awesome reviews on iTunes -- that would rule!)

We are also still accepting listener questions, comments, etc. so please send them to our e-mail address on the left or in a comment here on the blog. Your feedback is important to us and the direction we take this podcast in the future so don't hesitate to let us know what you think! Have a question concerning gaming you'd like us to tackle on the show? Send those in as well!

[Direct Download]
[Subscribe via iTunes]
[Subscribe via RSS]

The Rumble Pak Episode 2: Get Money, Get Paid!

After last week's epic 2 hour return special, we decided to tone things down a bit this week with a smaller show with two segments, clocking in at about an hour and twenty four minutes.

First we chat about what we've been playing, followed by an in-depth discussion on storytelling and narrative in video games. Its an interesting discussion with a lot of excellent points. We've also totally revamped the blog as part of the relaunch.

For our first new show in ages we really came back with a bang. This show totals just over 2 hours of discussion on our favorite games of 2008 and the games we're most looking forward to in 2009.

I hope you all enjoy it. You've probably noticed by now that our podcasting schedule has become a little, well... Erratic. This is due to a multitude of factors. We lost an original member in Sam, scheduling conflicts have pretty much been the thorn in our side throughout this entire thing, and a general loss of interest are just a few of those factors.

Besides, judging by my hit tracking and RSS tracking, hardly ANYONE listens to this anyway, so it feels to me I'm doing a lot of work for nothing. I didn't realize doing a podcast would be this difficult and I'm starting to realize that maybe I bit off a little more than I could chew.

So, having said that, I just wanted to let everyone know that until further notice the Gaming Random Thoughts podcast is going to be on an indefinite hiatus. This doesn't mean we won't ever do another show, because I'm sure I'll want to come back to this eventually, it just means that we probably aren't going to be doing another one for a very long time. I'm starting back up college this semester, Artie is already back in school, and it was already a pain trying to schedule a time BEFORE we were both back in class, so I can't imagine the nightmare it would be now.

So anyway, thanks for listening to the very few episodes we managed to put out, and I guess look forward to the very few episodes we might possibly put out in the distant future.

- Ryan

GRT Episode 5: ~*~GUIDO RAWKSTARR~*~

Wow, what an episode this is. We have another guest, Mr. Jonathan, a.k.a. ~*~GUIDO RAWKSTARR~*~, God-king Jerxes as well as Ommy. Or any combination of the three.

We start things off with a massive What We've Been Playing segment. Ommy breathes some PC life into our show via Diablo and WoW and I gush about Braid, one of the best downloadable games ever.

In the second segment we decided to try something a little different and dropped the News in favor of what we call "Under the Radar" where we discuss past, present or upcoming games that we feel are under hyped or underrated. Some great intellectual chat comes up here.

Finally we close things off with a lengthy discussion about the state of downloadable games, and every possible issue related to them.

I feel that this is easily one of the best shows we've put out, if not the best. So do yourself a favor, grab some refreshments and clear up an hour and a half of your time because you're in for a great show this week.

As you may have noticed, Sam will not be joining us on the show for an unknown amount of time. Due to family issues he has had to move and has no internet access. So in his stead we are doing our best to get fresh voices on the show. Chaz and Ommy are just the first. We hope to try out a variety of people from all kinds of gaming backgrounds in hopes of rounding out our cast with a diverse group of people. So yes, that means that eventually one or two of these guests will become permanent members. If you're interested in coming on the show, contact me via the link on the right ("Contact Us!") and we'll work something out.

To download, Right click --> Save as.

[Direct Download]
[Subscribe via RSS]

GRT Epis... Sam finally returns from the abyss of the Indian underworld to join us for the first time since the first episode. We also have a guest, Chaz, to help freshen things up a bit. Unfortunately Artie couldn't be with us for this episode for personal reasons.

After a divergence in our past two shows, this episode is somewhat of a return to form. We spend a pretty hefty amount of time discussing What We've Been Playing since we have some new voices and its been a few episodes since we've done it. Prepare for a lot of Pokemon.

We then move into the News segment where we touch on some juicy stuff such as the Playstation Wars, GTA IV on PC, and the new Resident Evil CG Film trailer.

Finally we have our newly renamed and improved In-Depth segment, which is now going to be known as our Feature Discussion. This week we get into the messy battlefield that is hardcore vs. casual gaming. Its an interesting discussion with a lot of good points brought up for both sides. Feel free to let us know how you feel about the issue in the comments, as well as any ideas you may have for future Features.

Links mentioned in the show:

Yahoo! "Playstation Wars" Story

Kotaku "Playstation Wars" Story

To download, Right click --> Save as.

[Direct Download]
[Subscribe via RSS]

GRT Episode 3: Nintendowned

E3 has come and gone and in its wake we are left to discuss and scrutinize nearly everything about it.
