Academics

The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) is distinguished in many ways — a national leader with top-rated faculty, prestigious alumni, and an ideal location in either Boston or at the Mount Holyoke College campus. However, honoring our educational promise means that the focus is on you. GSLIS faculty work closely with students to build a strong foundation of theories, principles, and practice that are essential for the profession.

Learning takes place in small classes and group discussions, with lectures, team projects, collaborative research and presentations, internships, and site visits. Our collegial environment is interdisciplinary and international in nature. As a result, GSLIS graduates are prepared to work in many different professions and draw upon many different skills.

Simmons offers two primary academic programs: the Master of Science in Library and Information Science and the Ph.D. The school provides Master of Science concentrations in archives management and school librarianship, a doctoral concentration in Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions (MLIP), as well as dual-degree programs and continuing education options to meet your personal and professional needs.

For a firsthand perspective, we're happy to put you in touch with GSLIS students, faculty, and program directors.
