I've tried a few times making videos of any kind using Windows but they are not wedding related. I won't be including Photo Gallery on the website anymore. Videos do the same and with a song, which is a plus. I am still learning as I go. I have uploaded non-wedding videos on youtube, trying to get some comments and tips (and yeah I know I might get some harsh ones on there, but among them there must be some very good advices) If you have any tips for this video, just leave me a comment. Just to clarify it, my business is in decoration and not photography/ videography. I probably will venture into that area someday, but for now I'd rather work with yards of sheers than tons of pixels.

Now these links are just to give you ideas, doesn't necessarily mean you have to book the exact location. Let's say you are planning a rainforest wedding, doesn't mean it has to be Bundaleer rainforest. Unless of course it fits your budget and you know someone who can help you plan your wedding there. Also rules and regulations of each place and each country differ. e.g. Just because museum A allows certain amount of guests and music, doesn't mean museum B allows the same thing. The ideas are there for you to develop according to your own plan, but before applying them, you need to have all the information you need handy.
Ok, here are the links:

Zoo
http://www.bowmanvillezoo.com/weddings.html
You can see the photos and information right on this page. This is a private zoo. For public zoo you will need to ask the authority there.

Rainforest
http://www.bundaleer.com/
It's a rainforest garden. It looks pretty much like outdoor wedding with tent.

University
http://www.weddingvenues.com/reception-venues-University-0.html
If you click on the university name it will show more information such as services, availability and probably some wedding pictures you can get your ideas from

Greenhouse
http://thecakeparlor.typepad.com/the_cake_parlour/2007/07/greenhouse-wedd.html
It seems pretty simple and yet very pretty

Pub
http://www.weddingvenues.com/reception-venues-Pub-0.html
Same thing with university page, if you click on the university name it will show more information such as services, availability and probably some wedding pictures you can get your ideas from

Cinema
http://www.weddingvenues.com/reception-venues-Theatre-0.html
Now I've heard this done before but I'm still really surprised that there are so many choices available.

Museum
http://www.weddingvenues.com/reception-venues-Museum-0.html
Same thing with university page, if you click on the university name it will show more information such as services, availability and probably some wedding pictures you can get your ideas from

Airport
http://www.officiantguy.com/airportwedding.html
Lots of information available to help your planning.

For weddings inside and outside pyramids and on a tour, I would suggest asking a travel agency. These three locations are actually in one category as wedding on a tour. I have heard it done before, probably a short ceremony, but rules and regulations may have changed over time. I'm fond of pyramids, but doesn't mean any other tourist destinations are not romantic enough to marry in. It all goes back to your personal choice.
Shopping mall weddings I can't find any link or photo available online. It may cost a bundle just for the rent, but it may be possible to rent just a small area in the mall. I would imagine not much decoration needed, the mall itself is decorated to some degree anyway.
I hope you will find the links above helpful. I have only decorated hotel, golf & country club and outdoor ruins weddings so I hope photos from the links I provided can help your wedding planning.
Subscribe in a reader

Ideas for wedding locations

Weddings to some couples are more personal than bustling social events. It's understandable if a couple consider of having a celebration in a place that has personal meaning to them. This might provoke unpleasant reaction from family members or friends, but at the end of the day, everyone will join in and accept the couple's choice.

Here are some places I have heard or read as wedding celebration sites :

* Museum
Fond of history and artifacts? Museum is the best place to be. You can actually wear old fashioned gowns and suits. In the pictures it would look as if the wedding is done in the 1900s or even earlier! Then you can tell your friends, you are actually immortal ...

* Zoo and marine land
I love animals too! It would be fun, you'll have animals make noises on top of the wedding band!
Just make sure the lions, boas and polar bears are far away, or at least fed...

* Inside a pyramid
Just avoid the traps that Pharaoh's slaves had installed, ok? They still work!

* Outside a pyramid
There must be a lot of guests eerrr tourists congratulating you... and make sure it is a tent, so sand and sandstorm can't ruin your day.

* Airport
Hmm... security will have a hectic day if you choose this place. Just make sure you don't have any terrorist, terrorist wanna-be, criminal or criminal wanna-be in your list of invitation. I know it's hard to predict what other people will do, but try your best!

* Cinema
Hah that's a good one. You might get a discount for buying movie tickets, beers and popcorns for above 50 people. Must be fun to have ceremony and watch a movie with just the very people you want to watch it with. No kicking at the back of the seat, no one stands up (and keep standing up...), no loud noises or kids fighting (no guarantee on this, though)

* Greenhouse
Well this is nice. I wouldn't mind getting married in a big green house. As long as there is enough space for everybody (and the plants). It wouldn't need much decoration either. Just the plants and us! Hopefully nobody slams the door on their way in or out... hic!

* Pub and bar
Beer and alcohol lovers should know this by now. They might have met there anyway, so why not celebrate it in the same place?

* University or school hall
I would imagine it's cheaper to get married there in terms of hall rent. Long time lovers may find it just the right place to have the reception, since they practically meet in school anyway.

* On a tour
Almost like an elope, getting married while going on a tour is not a bad idea. You would celebrate it with everyone on the same tour group. How cool is that? Plus it's wedding and honeymoon in a package!

* Someone else's house and backyard
Err.. I hope you at least know the owner. Or at least you know they don't have some exotic pets like boas or tarantulas lurking somewhere.

* Shopping mall
Should be fun for girls. Shopping before wedding, then shop again after ! It is convenient in a way. There are practically a lot of things you can do in the mall. Playing games, get manicure, spa, pedicure, massage, haircut, nail polish, buying lingeries, checking out newest gadgets and get some food off the food counters! Sounds like a full day activity already...

* Rain forest
Marrying a botanist? Where is better place to marry than the rain forest? Get a cabin booked and take survival lesson. You might spend your honeymoon in the forest, who knows what animal you will meet. At least you would have survived something at the end of the day!

I have some ideas playing in my mind as I am writing this. But these ideas are just crazy I think they will apply to my own wedding anniversary or if we ever re-do our wedding. I'll keep it for myself :)
Subscribe in a reader

Wedding gowns

Just found a great article. I hope the link won't be broken after a while.
I love the photos although some gowns look elaborate they seem a bit too much. But then again these weddings are of famous people and royal family, so simplicity is not something common in it.

Here is the link to the article Wedding Dresses to Remember By Steph McGrath http://lifestyle.sympatico.msn.ca/Special+Guides/wedding_guide/celebrity_wedding_dresses.htm

And here are my favourites :

Quoted from Wedding Dresses to Remember
By Steph McGrath

"Jacqueline Kennedy
In 1953, Jackie Kennedy truly began a lifelong trend of positioning herself as a woman of exquisite taste. Her Anne Lowe dress is just as lovely and classic now as it was then. There are many fashionable moments we remember Jackie for: the dark sunglasses, the little fitted jackets, the perfectly coiffed hair, but this has got to be the apex of her influence. Thanks to some Youtube users I can still watch music videos from these two periods, I miss them so much I used to listen to them when I grew up.
The song Colour of Love by Billy Ocean in particular is such a romantic song, just perfect for wedding, anniversary and engagement. It gives me the same feeling today as many many years ago when I first listened to it. Maybe I was born hopelessly romantic. But do you know the colour of your love? It doesn't have to be your favorite colour, what you or other people call romantic.
My favourite colour is red and I think it is a romantic colour, but there was not a single red in my wedding. There was only a shade of pink and cream. My gown was cream with little pink roses embroidery. I just fell for this beautiful gown as soon as I laid my eyes on it. I didn't plan to have everything else in the same shade though, but when the decorator asked me what colour I wanted for decoration theme, shade of pink and cream was the only thing I had in mind. There was no thinking twice and they didn't even know the colour of my gown, in fact I didn't think it should limit the variety of colours available for decoration. So it's kind of strange why I didn't have anything else in mind at the time.
But I realize this today as I wrote this post. I remember how everything I wear always have some shade of red in it (ok 95% not everything). Well pink is a very light red, but I usually settle with dark pink or hot pink. Yet none of these colours were present in my wedding aside from dark red tie, that was it. Since my husband doesn't have a particular favourite colour, I'm sure this is not some kind of colour combination result either. So it's pretty clear now: shade of pink and cream is the colour of my love.
What is yours?
Subscribe in a reader

Did I say something??

In the midst of chaos or argument, emotions run high. Words, not carefully selected or controlled, come out of our mouths creating effects that can not be easily forgotten or ignored. Been there done that, aren't we all? Beautiful words create feeling of easeness and friendship, maybe love further down the road. Hurtful words destroy closeness and relationship. Think of how many years these effects last.

Sandra Ingerman, Marriage and Family Therapist wrote in her article Words as Seeds:

"Hebrew and Sanskrit are what we call vibrational languages. In Sanskrit it is believed that when you say a word, the vibration from that word goes up into the universe and comes back down as a physical manifestation. One Hindu creation story tells that the world sprang forth from the skulls of the goddess Kali's necklace. Each skull was a letter in the Sanskrit language. There are stories in the Hebrew tradition, too, about how words can be used to heal or harm, to create or destroy.
Hebrew is also called a consonantal language, meaning that it is made of consonants and not vowels. That is because the sounds and vibrations of the vowels are the real power; the consonants are what contain the power and therefore define the parameters of the power coming through. By not writing out the vowels, the language keeps most of the powerful words secret. You have to be told which vowels are used in a particular word. Also, a word could be an extremely powerful word using one set of vowels, but an ordinary word using another set of vowels.
The Qabbalists say that the world was created by the letters of the alphabet, meaning through the use of sound and vibration. The Hebrew bible embodies the very sound of creation, the vibrations that actually were used to create and manifest. Therefore words are "creative," and if they are creative they can also be destructive.
In ancient Egypt, action and words were often the same thing; words had so much power that often a metaphor was used in the place of a word. Otherwise, it was thought that the energy of the word -- potentially destructive -- would manifest physically.
The creation stories of many cultures teach that the world was created with a sound or a word. Genesis says that God created the world with the words, Let there be light. The New Testament says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In the cosmology of the Hopi, the sun god and earth goddess chant life into being. The Hindu scriptures teach us that aum is the sacred syllable from which the entire universe was created.
Even abracadabra, the incantation that many of us said as children, is actually a word of power that comes from the Aramaic. The original spelling is abraq ad habra, which literally means, I will create as I speak."

The words can create a difference. I learned this the hard way, add language barrier on top, the effect is so disastrous I wish I could change my name and relocate.
A lot of things can cause arguments, one of them is last minute change in wedding plans. I know, I planned my own wedding. I really didn't enjoy it, I just wanted to get married. I'm glad things worked out, but I wish I didn't say some of the words I said.
In marriage life this is doubly true, because we live with the person we talk to. Then there are also children and pets involved. All under one roof, affected by our words. The effect will spread to those who are or are not related to us, no matter where they live - some of these very people actually attended the wedding and (most likely) remember the words you said in the midst of celebration. Uh oh, that's no good !

Sandra Ingerman's book How to heal Toxic Thoughts is a very helpful and interesting piece. The time I spent reading it is a time well wasted. Try take a break from browsing the stores or planning your wedding, find a comfortable spot and read it. This author had presented her work at the UN in 2006. Most of her work is about shamanism, but this book in particular speaks for everyone and relationship. You don't have to adopt shamanism belief or be in a relationship to understand it.
Subscribe in a reader

Second wedding : Love again

Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless, aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, its only seed

It's the heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance

It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong

Just remember, in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lie the seed, that with the sun's love
In the spring, becomes the rose

I was going to write about second wedding a few years ago but I never got to find the right words to put it. Then I came across this old song, the lyrics are dead perfect for those who have experienced failures in love or are thinking they won't find it.
As odd as it may sound, but at least two people I know are great personalities, do not believe they will ever find love. One has been through quite a bitter divorce and the other was betrayed quite a few times. Then there are those awful stories I read and heard about love started as fairy tale and yet ended in horror.
To err is human, but some errs are just too hard to get over with. We can ask these endless questions : why do we hurt the ones we love? why do the ones we love hurt us? will we ever come up with a logical answer ? even if we do, it won't reverse time. What happened, happened.
There is a saying that I believe is true. There is someone for everybody. This means each of us will find love. Maybe not now, but when the time comes. Maybe the first wedding is not a commitment based on love, but the next is.

"It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live"

The past is gone. Close the door. New love is waiting, yes you are strong and lucky :) for it. Those planning second wedding, congratulations! You are set for the new future. For those who think love isn't for them, remember this :

"It's the heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance"

Look around. People find love everywhere, every day. Can't sleep forever, you need to wake up. Can't be afraid forever, it will find you sooner or later.

Planning first wedding and nervous? Know this :

"Just remember, in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lie the seed, that with the sun's love
In the spring, becomes the rose"

Every flower starts with seed. Attend to your garden regularly, you'll find love blossoms and matures in time. How do I know? You ask. I am one of few 'strong and lucky' to have married the love of my life. I was not born 'strong and lucky' though I just always believe I will find it if I look. I had my winters, they were ship-wreckingly longer than my springs and summers combined. I never did receive any encouragements to go through it all but I lived. I know you will survive yours and aim for the future too.
I have sent this song to a few friends whom I thought need to hear it. This can also be a wedding song if you wish to make it so.

Note: Dec 09 link was gone due to restriction, I provided another link this time it's Bette Midler not Westlife. I love the way she sang it!
Subscribe in a reader

Outdoor weddings

Summer is the perfect time for outdoor weddings. You can have it at the beach, by the lake, in the park or in the backyard of a house. When planning this type of wedding, don't forget to consider below :

* Wind and rain
Not to ruin your dreamy mood, but it's better to mention it before you plan further. I can't imagine anything worse than rain and wind ruining your make up and the table set up. Tent is your best bet to save the day.

* Insects
This one you will probably not have to deal with in beach weddings. Other than that, you do need to make sure mosquitos, bees, ants etc can not have their way to ruin your day

* Experience
Outdoor celebration is not everybody's cup of tea. You need to make sure your catering and decorator are experienced in it. This way they know how to prepare and do their job even in the least expected situation. Plus they can also give you tips and remind you about the little details you may not consider in the beginning.

* Contingency plan
Everyone involved in making your dream day should have contingency plan simply because the moment (yes this moment, your wedding day) won't come back. Everyone including the couple who are getting married. Having an outdoor wedding makes it even more important to have plan B. When you visit the place you will be having the wedding at, list all the 'what ifs' that come to mind. Then as soon as you have time, sit down and try to find solutions to these what ifs. It's convenient to do this prior to meeting with businesses. This way everyone gets the big picture and you will know what is possible to be accomplished and what is not, just enough information to make up your mind and book the service or product.

* Regulation
This is usually the first thing you will hear from the site owner or manager. Even if you are having it in your own backyard, there are regulations about noise and parking that you may need to consider. If nobody mentions it to you, do your best to find out anyway. Even better if you know someone who got married in the same place, they will be a good source of information.

Spring and fall are probably not the best times for outdoor weddings. But then again depends on your location and preparation, it can still happen. I hope this helps. I'll leave you to your planning now.
Subscribe in a reader

Fun intended

Here are some fun articles to read :

Luckiest summer wedding dates in 2009

Wedding colors by Zodiac
Wedding flowers by sign

You might even find these articles accurate to some degree. I love red, although when I was younger I love dark red and dark colors. Now I kind of like pink, peach, lighter colors so blood red it is. A downright Leo I never can resist red.
Numerology isn't just some kind of prankster-messing-with-number thingy. It went back to the ancient times, much like astrology, i-ching alike. I have learned a bit about it many years ago and although I can hardly remember much, you might find it fascinating how numbers can explain our personality.

Now there are some movies you can watch when you take a break from the hassles of planning and preparing for the wedding. Here are my favourites, not in chronological order, I just go by memory :

27 Dresses
The Wedding Planner
Monster In-Law
Made of Honor
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Father of the Bride
Meet the Parents

Haven't watched it yet but sure won't want to miss it : The Proposal

Well I'll leave you to your wedding preparation now. Hope you have the best time in your life! Decorations, rental and invitations are not included in the sale.
Time passed by so fast, it's only six months away from 2010. That means I need to start clearing up the shelves and preparing for new items.
I advertised it online, hoping that it would reach brides and grooms out there and maybe business starters with luck or businesses looking to start expansion.
I figured that weekends is the best time I can be available during the day, so to all e-mails I mention this as the most convenient time. I'm sure it's convenient for most people too, at least those that work during the weekdays.

Note: 50% discount only applies to in-store gifts and accessories
Discount season will be over August 31 2009
Subscribe in a reader

God and marriage

It's hard not to mention God when thinking about love and marriage. The joy of finding the love of your life, the excitement and anxiety of committing yourself to each other, the feeling that everything is perfect - for a moment it feels like heaven is here, or at least near.
Maybe not all of us are religious but we all know this feeling. We have experienced it or we will someday. Do you remember the TV series Touched by An Angel? There is a book written by its author: Inviting God to Your Wedding.
I haven't read it all. I am not getting commission by mentioning this book to you. But I know that you won't regret it. Take a break from planning your wedding and running around, find your favorite corner and spend a few hours reading at least one chapter.
Even if you don't believe in God, it could still be a good read, something to take your mind off the wedding planning stress. Try it, before the wedding.
Subscribe in a reader

Booking by referrals

Is it better to book vendors by referrals? I would say that the answer is "Maybe". It may be safer, but not always better. Vendors that have been in business for many years have the experience and network. New vendors may not have as much experience and large network, but they may offer both fresh and raw ideas and methods that can work to your advantage.

For some reason, someone thought I owned a limousine company, where as I clearly said that I can refer her to a limousine company. This happened a few years back and I still have no clue how the word "refer" can mean "own". If vendor A refers you to vendor B, it doesn't mean vendor A owns vendor B. In some cases vendor A might be held responsible if vendor B somehow jeopardizes the contract. In some cases, the customer and vendor B have to sort it out themselves.

If you are interested in booking vendors based on referrals, make sure that you read the contract carefully before signing it, just like when you book vendors not by referrals. Make sure all details are clear and follow up with the vendor directly, in this case vendor B, and not vendor A who refers you to B. This will help eliminate information overlap and possible delays caused by miscommunication. Understand vendor A's responsibility when it comes to vendor B's service, can A be held responsible when B messes up? or will it be just between you and B? Sometimes the contract will explain each vendor's role, sometimes you have to ask.

Basically, bookings by referrals will require just as much attention to details and research as non-referral bookings do.
Subscribe in a reader

Wedding moments, not captured

Quoted from Cate Blanchett's wedding regrets by People News :

"Cate Blanchett regrets her wedding day.

The 39-year-old actress - who married playwright Andrew Upton 11 years ago - would love to relive the special day because she has no photographs to remember it by.

She said: "The only moment of my life I would possibly recapture is getting remarried again because we didn't take any photographs. We didn't have any money at the time and we couldn't afford a photographer."

Cate - who has three sons with Andrew - also revealed starring in new movie 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button', about a man born elderly who ages backwards, helped her remember the most important things in her life.

She added: "In rehearsal we were talking about our relationship with our parents, about the first time you kissed somebody, it makes you remember the turning points in your life.

"The thing I physically learned for the film was a lot of dance moves. I thought a lot about my grandmother because a large portion of the film I am playing an 86-year-old who is dying in bed.

Copyright BANG media"

Read more: http://www.monstersandcritics.com/people/news/article_1447665.php/Cate_Blanchetts_wedding_regrets#ixzz0Lp5i5eO6

Now Cate isn't the only celebrity who is married and I didn't feel like commenting on celebrities' weddings in my blog until today I read this article.

While it's true each person has different wish for their dream wedding, some things just can't or shouldn't be opted out. Since this beautiful moment will not come back, wedding photo (hence wedding photographers, or whoever it is you think are good with cameras and photos) is one of these things.

I have no doubt Cate can afford another celebration, probably invite the very same people and re-construct the whole event to re-live it(I know, it sounds like crime investigation, but you know what I mean). But for us the regular people, it won't be as easy.

It's true that in the case of bad marriages that end up with divorce or worse, previous wedding photos may end up in a garbage bin anyway. But then again wedding photos do not only capture the couple's moments so some of these photos are still worth keeping.

Wedding photos also capture:
* your friends, who spend all those times running around getting things done for you. they would be all dressed up at the wedding, showing no fatigue or stress, in fact also dancing, singing and enjoying the moment (especially the wine)
* your family, including the ones you have to invite just for the sake of it. they will be all dressed up too. The eccentric ones will stand up, and bring their eccentric partner doing something eccentric at the party (yeah, they are unique aren't they)
* the beauty and elegance of the whole settings, which is a perfect show off

Again this is just my opinion. It's your wedding, so it is your decision. I can't think of any bride who doesn't want her wedding photos taken, but there are millions of brides out there and I haven't met all of them.

Note: the original link to yahoo (or was it msn) news last year was gone. so I quoted another website about Cate's wedding regret.
Subscribe in a reader

Wedding package

Well the new website is now completed. I am still using the same domain name which is my shop's name, I just had to switch from Yahoo webhosting to Freewebs.com as an attempt to stay within budget during 2008 when gas prices are up and so everything else. One can probably go yapping about who to blame political wise but this blog is about weddings and I believe that if we look, we will find a way to continue with wedding plan or any kind of celebration and still stay within budget.
Anyway I have just added another wedding package. I know I could've done it sooner but I needed to be sure what most people expect when they came to the shop. I call the new package Convenient Package, because it includes a bit of everything invitations, theme wedding, rentals and decorations.
I realize that Complete Decoration package doesn't always suit decoration needs since the hall may already have an arch and ceiling treatment so hopefully the couple will find Convenient package a convenient option that saves them time and efforts running around from one shop to another for their wedding.
Subscribe in a reader

Happy New Year 2008!

Happy New Year and thanks for visiting my blog!
Just to give you an idea about my little one stop wedding shop in Guelph.
I provide Weddingstar wedding products, Invitation and cards, Do it Yourself supply for that creative soul of yours, Decoration and rentals. Here are some tips on choosing your wedding theme :

1. Pick your favorite color or his or both

2. Pick your favorite flowers, for example Roses.
Then among so many colors that roses come in, combine the most subtle and the most dramatic ones, they will look perfect for decoration and in pictures.

3. Pick colors of the season when the wedding is held or when you or your beloved was born
Winter colors are white, silver, midnight blue, dark green, burgundy, dark red, hunter green
and other christmas colors
Fall colours are burgundy, deep orange, dark brown, sage green, midnight black and ivory
Spring and summer colors are aquamarine, pink, peach, turquoise, celery green, gold, yellow, red, lavender, ocean blue, strawberry, lilac, cinnamon and any pastel colors

4. Pick your favorite activity together

If both of you love travelling to foreign countries, you can pick an exotic theme for your decoration including centrepieces, table or chair decoration and cake toppers among many others.
For example: Moroccan style chair covers and hurricane lamp centrepieces. If you are a big fan of Cinderella movies, you can choose to have a Fairytale wedding complete with fairytale style accesories, glass castle cake topper and glass castle centrepiece.
If you two love to spend time together at the beach, beach wedding theme will be perfect. Seashells favors, seashell candle holders, seashell cake toppers, ocean blue table cloth - you name it!

5. Pick flowers of the month when you or your beloved was born or when the wedding is held

January - Snowdrop, Carnation
February - Primrose, Violet
March - Jonquil, Daffodil
April - Daisy, Sweetpea
May - Hawthorn, Lily of the Valley
June - Honeysuckle, Rose
July - Water Lily, Orchid
August - Poppy, Gladiol
September - Aster, Morning Glory
October - Calendula, Cosmos
November - Narcissus, Crysanthemum
December - Poinsettia, Holly

If your favorite flowers are not flowers of the month it might be difficult to find them unless you are flexible enough to use artificials. Roses are pretty common to use in weddings, so it might be easier to get life roses instead. Feel free to combine your favorite flowers with the flowers of the month whenever they are available.

6. Pick among various wedding theme collection accesories,
whichever you like best, and apply the theme to the overall decoration.
For this you can visit my shop and click on each link to view various collections available.

7. Pick the most suitable theme for the reception hall

If the most dominant colors of the room are navy blue and gold it's not a bad idea
to pick these colors as your theme.
If the hall is dominated with white or ivory, you can pick darker colors as your theme since these colors will look contrast with the pale background in the picture.
If you happen to rent an old house with mostly wooden furnitures and grey stone background, pick white, silvery or bright colors to brighten the way the room looks.
If it's a new house with fireplace and brand new mahony furnitures, it might be a good idea to pick ivory or pastel colors as your theme since it will soften the dark colors just enough.
Garden or outdoor tent will be perfect for spring wedding, it leaves a lot of room for colorful decoration ideas.

8. If all else fails, get plenty of magazines or view wedding pictures online and pick the best that you'd like to make your own theme. You can also visit my shop for more ideas.
Just to save you from doing your own research, here's information about meaning of flowers associated with birth months and wedding:
Aster or the Star - Variety, elegance, daintiness
Calendula - Grief, jealousy
Cosmos - Modesty
Chrysanthemum - Cheerfulness, optimism, rest, truth
Carnation - Fascination, distinction, divine love
Daisy - Innocence, loyal love, I'll never tell, purity
Dandelion - Faithfulness, happiness
Daffodil - Regard, rebirth, new beginnings, unrequited love, you're the only one
Forget me not - True love, hope, remembrance, memories
Fern - Sincerity, magic, fascination, confidence
Gladiol - Strength of character, remembrance, infatuation, splendid beauty

Gardenia - lovely, secret love, joy, sweet love, good luck
Holly - Foresight, defense, domestic happiness, enchantment
Hawthorn - marriage, childbirth, wedding flowers in ancient Greek
Honeysuckle - Bonds of love
Ivy - Fidelity, wedded love, friendship, affection, marriage
Jonquil - Sympathy , love me, affection returned, desire.
Lily of the Valley - Return of happiness, purity of heart, sweetness, humility, happiness
Lavender - Devotion
Magnolia - Dignity, love of nature, nobility
Morning Glory - Loves you
Myrtle - Love, marriage symbol in hebrew
Mistletoe - Kiss me, affection
Moss - Maternal love, charity
Narcissus - Egotism, conceit, self love, self admiration, formality, stay as sweet as you are
Orchid - Rare beauty, love, refinement, beautiful lady, mature charm, beauty, long life
Poppy - Eternal sleep, oblivion, imagination
Primrose - I can't live without you.
Peony - happy life, happy marriage, good health, prosperity
Poinsettia - Christmas star, hope, celebration
Rose - Love, passion, perfection.
Snowdrop - purity, hope, maid of february, church flowers
Stephanotis - Happiness in marriage, desire to travel
Sweetpea - Lasting pleasure, blissful pleasure, I think of you
Tulip - Perfect lover, happiness in love
Violet - Modesty, faithfulness, innocence, understated beauty
Waterlily - Purity of heart
White Lily - Purity, modesty, virginity

In the end it is your wedding and it is your day to remember. Married in grey, you will go far away. Married in black, you will wish yourself back. Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead. Married in blue, you will always be true. Married in pearl, you’ll live in a whirl. Married in green, ashamed to be seen, Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow. Married in brown, you’ll live out of town. Married in pink, your spirits will sink" - Anonymous (from Kelsey McIntyre's The History of the White Wedding Dress)

White wedding gowns colors consist of either pure white or white with shades of either eggshell, ecru or ivory. Queen Victoria made this color popular by wearing white gown on her wedding to Albert of Saxe-Coburg, a completely different choice from royal brides before her who wore dark colored gowns such as black and red. Another royal wedding where the bride wore white was Grace Kelly's to Prince of Monaco in 1956, the bride looked stunning in white silk and lace gown.

Nowadays the era of modern technology, superstitions around wedding gown colors are fading. White with ivory, ecru and eggshell shades is still popular, but nowadays brides are more flexible to wear light pink and light blue also. In Asia, wedding gowns are either red (symbol of auspisciousness) or green (symbol of fertility) but now Asian brides are also more receptive to western culture hence white wedding gown is also a popular choice.

My gown was cream with pink and cream flowers. I did not wear white, not because I despised western culture. I just thought white wasn't practical, easier to get dirty and looked plain on me. My bridesmaid however, wore white which was OK for her. One of the bloggers I linked my blog to, wore black on her wedding. Let's see if I can get her post her wedding picture here.

What about you? Would you like to share your story and pic? In general you would need to spend $ 500 - $ 5,000 for florist arrangements depending on what style, type of flowers etc. If you can find a florist that will give you a cheaper quote then by all means take it or if you have time and quite creative, doing your own arrangement is definitely not a bad idea. There are plenty of magazines and websites online that can provide you tips and ideas on how to do your own arrangement.

Life flowers for sure will cost you more, even if you are thinking to arrange the flowers yourself. First of all you will have to buy them fresh and keep them as such until the wedding day. The best time to buy them would be the day before the wedding then you will have to arrange them and keep them refrigerated until the next day. It is recommended to buy the flowers at your local store, not online, although I heard some stores pack them well and they arrive fresh. But if this online store can deliver the flowers within 24 hours then maybe it is worth to try.

When it comes to artificial flowers, you will be surprised how hard it is to tell them apart from life ones these days. They look alive and fresh until you touch and smell them ! My supplier has huge collection of artificial flowers that go very well with decoration hardwares such as arches and backdrops along with greenery or maybe some flower stands for church decoration. Do you know that the new generation of artificial flowers has a lot softer feel, enhanced vibrant colours that blend naturally and lasts longer under the sun than the previous one ? I am so excited to hear this news and actually planning to get some for my anniversary in 3 years from now yippiee!

If your budget is a little more flexible, consider to get florist arrangements for decorations and centerpieces, while boutonnieres you can do them yourself since they are just single stems of flower coupled with pins - real easy ! You can also create bouquets together with the bridesmaids, all you need is flowers, scissors, pins and craft wires -the rest is just a matter of binding them together not too tight not too loose. Decorations and centerpieces can be a little difficult and stressful for you to make yourself, since they will be displayed in public hence if things go wrong they will be spotted right away. You know "one flower shorther than the other" or "it looks heavier this side" or "what on earth is that thing doing among the flowers?" thingy !

Florist' arrangements always work out better than your own since they are professionals. OK you might be creative and know what flower means what, but if you can afford it and get what you pay, why not?

Feel free to let me know what you think about this blog ! It serves as decoration item yet if it is personalized can also serve as keepsakes. In formal parties, a game is usually held after reception dinner and the winner(s) can take the centerpiece(s) home. Wedding centerpiece is part of wedding decoration that plays quite an important role in beautifying the table settings, especially head table and guest tables. This is due to the fact that head tables are where the couple sit and guest tables occupy the largest part of the room where the reception is held.

Signing table and gift table decorations usually do not include centrepieces, they are decorated mostly with family pictures, overlays, layers of organza with flowers and ribbons, or any decoration styles that the couple desire.
If the cake table is located at the centre of the room, the wedding cake is usually of a certain height and size so that it is visible by attendants sitting at the furthest table from the center. The wedding cake IS the centerpiece of the cake table but if complimentary decoration is desired, then it can be added as long it doesn't crowd the table and distract the attention from the wedding cake itself.

It is recommended that centrepieces at the guest tables and head table are similar, but since head table is in general square and longer, some complimentary centrepieces can also be added such as candelabra or small vases of flowers or other centrepieces that match the wedding theme. Flower centrepieces are very common and still popular and the same flower theme can be applied to the reception decoration e.g. arch and backdrop decoration. If the couple would like to apply their own unique and personal theme, flowers can still be added as complimentary if so they wish.

Candle centrepieces are also popular choices. They are affordable and leave enough room for creativity. You can place a candle in a vase filled with coloured sand, crystal gels or marbles. Combination of flowers and candles can also work wonders especially with the right colour combination. This type of centrepiece is not too tall and so it allows visibility of guests' faces. Tall centrepieces are usually not recommended since they will obstruct guests' visibility.

Hurricane candle holder is quite a popular choice for decoration when pillar candles are desired. They are available in quite a variety of colours that might suit the wedding theme or overall decoration. You can place the candle in a clear glass hurricane candle holder and surround it with floral candle ring or greenery. Floating candles are popular especially for outdoor weddings. They are available in huge variety of colours and cute shapes. You can also add marbles at the bottom to make it look prettier.

For those who prefer to use tall humongous centrepieces, it is recommended to use tall flower vases but choose the vase type wisely, you don't want the visible centerpieces to create visible damage. Pick the vase with sturdy base, so it doesn't fall easily when someone stands up. The florist would know how to arrange flowers in such manner that will balance the weight and the looks. Another option would be tall candelabras, these ones are mostly more sturdy than tall flower vases and do not obstruct visibility.

If you don't know yet what type of centerpieces you want then you might find it by visiting my shop and the sites I listed there. Feel free to contact us to make an appointment and view our catalogues at the shop. If your invitees are located abroad where it may take longer for postal service to reach them, then it is better to mail the invitations out earlier just in case. Finalize the dates, time and place and other information you would like the invitees to know, as early as twelve weeks prior to the wedding. This way you can send out the invitations on time and you can switch your attention to other things in your wedding plans.

Announcements are sent to those who are not invited or unable to be invited due to budget restrain etc. but you wish to inform them about your wedding. You can attach your wedding picture on them, this way announcements can also act as keepsakes for the recipients.

Response Cards are sent together with the invitations and used by the invitees to indicate whether they would attend the wedding or not and if they would, the amount of attendants coming with them. If you do not wish to send response cards, you can conveniently provide your contact info at the bottom part of the invitations, this way the invitees will still be able to reach you.

Reception Cards are used to indicate time and place of the reception along with any other information e.g. beverage type (alcoholic or non alcoholic), flow of the reception, direction to reception place or even the menu.

Informal Cards can be used for many types of elegant correspondence e.g. invitations for your engagement party, to your first dinner party at home etc. If you need the recipient’s response, your contact info can be conveniently included at the bottom part of the card.

What about practical people with no special situations?? Well in that case, you can use All in One type that contains Invitation and Response card. The Invitations will include time and place for ceremony and reception. You can purchase stationery from Weddingstar and Hortense B Hewitt or perhaps regular craft stores, and have directions or other important information printed on it.

Do I really have to invite everybody to my wedding? It's like $ 400 because we have more than 100 people to invite!! OK let me get things straight here. This is your wedding and so you are the one to decide how you want it done. Make a list, review it again and again. Be truthful to yourself and consider your budget wisely. For sure you will invite your family, groom's family and your best friends' family. But when it comes to everyone else, try to understand why you want to invite them in the first place. You're not inviting people so that you get to say, "See? I got him! You don't think I can, do you?" or "Yes we have the money. Come and check it out! It's a palace!" or "When will you marry? How come nobody proposed to you yet??" or even worse "I know you are both one family, but I feel like sending each one of you separate invitation. Aren't you her second husband? We like the first one better!"

You want a moment to remember, a sweet one, not bitter. Even if you have a very flexible budget, it doesn't hurt to be cautious, after all you can spend your money for other important things. How about down payment for a house? Starting a small business? Renovations? Child education? If you are dead sure about the invitees' names and don't have the budget to invite them all, then it's time to be creative. Many shops provide wedding stationery and decorations material to create your own invitations, shop around, you will be surprised of the huge variety of selections. You can also visit Wilton Weddings and my shop for that purpose.

Feel free to share your tips and links to wedding planning if you have any.
