Pio delle Camera and Castelnuovo near L'Aquila is a good, basic Italian roadside bar. The coffee is decent. But it's the pannini - good local prosciutto or pecorino cheese inside low, central Italian focaccia - that make me feel so at home. They are worth stopping in for. And in these months of living away from home, they are comfort food

carbonara.wordpress.com

Street Food (Italian style)

Fast food sounds bad. Of course if that's all you eat, the sound and the substance are not far away.

But just because it's made on the cheap, to be eaten on the cheap, does not mean it's worthless.

We all have our favorite trashy food (but street food, as we'll see, does not have to be trashy) somewhere. Our favorite taco truck, falafel place, Thai takeaway, pizza by the slice, burger joint, fish and chips or curry counter. You name it.

It doesn't matter if you boast about the place to your friends or keep it as your little secret comfort food place, like walk of shame doughnuts; all but the most intransigent succumb.

This bog will be where I try to give you my little secret places and tell you why. Most will be in Italy (mostly Rome), where I've been living for the past 18 years. Lunch breaks and traveling for work and fun means that I've found a few gems. A few will be elsewhere, as soon as I track them down. And if I can't, I'll just point you in the right direction.

If sit down eating is more your style, check out "DeliciousCityIt".
If you just want the food and drink, check out "Il Cappero".
