Last night, despite my crappy eye injury (see above), we visited the Pink Elephant in North Park to share one of our favorite issues — being eco-friendly. There’s been a lot of buzz about this topic lately, but it is one that is meaningful to us personally as well. We hail from picturesque places all around the US — the south, the northwest, New England, Hawaii, and of course, California — and all grew up feeling a great appreciation for and debt to nature. GGG wants to promote that sense of responsibility here in San Diego. But beyond all the talk about going green, we’d like to suggest a few things you can DO to make a difference. Start with our suggestions on this month’s flyer, and also make time to:

Incorporate whatever tips you can from the experiment of No Impact Man

Learn about the long-lasting effects of our consumer culture at Story of Stuff

Renew your resolutions daily with help from Ideal Bite

Find the recycling center nearest you — and if your building doesn’t recycle, organize a program!

Shop smart with The Green Guide

Get your whole family into it with these ideas from Working Mother

Go vegetarian or cut down as much as you can — it’s not just nicer for animals, it’s also healthier for the environment when done right

Plan your trips using public transportation

Be sure to print this and all our flyers on recycled paper, or, if you’re extra savvy, pass it around electronically.

We’d like to share our thanks and wish best of luck to a founding GGG dancer, Lady LibHERty, who is moving on to work on other projects this year. Don’t be sad though, she’ll still be darting in and out to accompany us on certain missions, and her influence behind-the-scenes will continue to radiate. Leave some sappy messages to her in the comments!

In other news, GGG is excited to announce its participation in the latest project by Paul Druecke, an artist concerned with public space, social interaction, and personal identity. Our contribution to his exhibit will appear in San Diego soon, and we’ll give you all the details as they come.

We’ve also updated the site, which now includes dancer profiles but no longer features an event calendar. You can still subscribe to our g-cal, but until we have new hands on deck we’re not going to be posting a lot. Suggested events will continue to be listed on our del.icio.us account and our Twitter page.

And Twitter we will when we head out this weekend to crash an all new locale. See you then!

January 11, 2002 marked the arrival of the first prisoners to Guantánamo Bay. Six years later, we acknowledged this anniversary by joining activists across the country in calling for the official and permanent end to the controversial facility and its un-Constitutional practices.

For more information and tips on what you can do, please see the ACLU’s page about the prison. You can also print or email their factsheet and talking points, which is what we handed out at the A.C. Lounge and The Ould Sod last night. (The bad news is, we didn’t get to dance because the floor was too packed. The good news is, we formed a conga line and got the word out anyway!)

To stay up to date with news about torture, rendition, and indefinite imprisonment, subscribe to the RSS feed of del.icio.us/notorture. The stream is managed by Survivors of Torture, International, a non-profit serving survivors of politically-motivated torture in San Diego County since 1997.

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a nice break filled with empty calories and long lost friends. I think I caught a germ or two on my flight back to SD, so I’m trying to use my sick time to catch up on blogging and such.

Volunteering and goal-making peak around the start of a new year, and we aim to help you put those intentions to use well past the holiday season. One of my resolutions is to get on the ball with this website! The girls and I have been amassing plenty of hot tips (not to mention our flyers) to post, and we are eager to share. Expect a more regular flow of updates here and some fancy new photos on our Flickr page.

I’ve also started a GGG del.icio.us account — it’s not very robust at the moment but will be growing soon. If you are part of this social bookmarking website, please add us to your network and send us suggested links. It should be a great way to quickly and broadly share information outside of our more detailed digests.

As promised, we plan to dance twice as much this month to kick off 2008 right. You’ll want to subscribe to our Tweets to get the scoop on where we are. See you soon!

::hack cough::

Last night we went guerrilla on Urban Mo’s, a staple of Hillcrest, to debut GGG’s November issue: eating local.

We picked this topic because, while always important, buying local produce will really help our neighborhood farms recover from the recent firestorm, which destroyed many crops, greenhouses, and even some farmers’ homes. The flyer will be up soon in English and Spanish along with related resources, so come back to check it out and pass it on.

As for the performance, it was a blast! We entered incognito and costumed ourselves in the ladies room — at one point an “employee” came in and stuck his head over the door to ask us why there were so many girls in there. Turns out, he was not an employee, just a dude in a sweatshirt drinking a beer. So I went a little Sugar-Free (F)ice Tea on his ass, and our dreamy site manager stepped in to show that dude the door.

We had a ball dancing and mingling with people after. Unfortunately this gig was so stealth we didn’t take any pictures for you, but let me assure you we sizzle in full costume, and our four-man posse didn’t look too shabby in their “G” wristbands either. Thanks for representing, boys!

Mo’s loved us so much they have invited us to perform again for a special occasion… Once we have it all confirmed we will announce it here, so get psyched!

Now to eat some post-party pancakes…

Another crazy Saturday at San Diego Sports Club. The costume party was a blast, drawing in over 200 flirts and freakshows, just our kind of people. Who do you guys think earned the title of Best Costume?

Big thanks are once again owed to dueling DJs of the night, The Deadbirds. And of course to everyone who spent their Halloween weekend with us! We hope you got a kick out of our dance preview and learned a little something about making a difference in the wake of this month’s fire emergency. The downloadable flyer is coming soon.

Oh, and if the Blue Balls Dodgeball team is out there somewhere — our dance-off challenge still stands. Name the place!

Festively yours,

Just sending a “hello” and “hope you’re safe” out to the universe in the midst of the SD Firestorm. We had a little panic when one of our dancers and our stylist were stuck in the Danger Zone, but thankfully these lovely ladies are safe and sound. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the neighbors who were not so fortunate.

We’ve had to re-envision some aspects of our event this Saturday to account for unforeseen issues relating to the crisis, but I think that ultimately it is for the best and that we will still have the most wicked Halloween get-down in the city. And, if it were possible, we’re even more excited to share our first Issue with you, because times like these are exactly when we need to be engaging in community-wide conversation.

This week’s emergency ravaged our county, but pulling together and mobilizing efforts are what GGG is here to do. Yes we send out our best wishes, but we also intend to pair that with our best actions. We hope you will join us, starting with this Saturday.

Till then!

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the lapse in blogging, but trust me, we have been anything but idle. Since our September soft launch, GGG has been blooming in all areas…

Our next gig is a Costume Party on Saturday, October 27th, once again at San Diego Sports Club featuring our friends The Deadbirds behind the table. We are going to debut our first Issue Flyer, which is really what we’re all about. It will also be posted here for your download after the gig, so be sure to check back!

We have new shirts you can buy at-cost, with great thanks owed to our hugely talented and generous designer Justin and our equally fabulous friends at Heavy Press.

Our dancers are ready to wow you with what is bound to become the Latest Craze — just call us the new CPDRC inmates!

And in a small morsel of bad news, our 11/2 gig has been canceled due to the venue’s scheduling error. We’re still hoping to find a new place for our friends the Can Kickers to play that Saturday (11/3), so if anyone can help us out, fire us an email. This is a really great band coming to us all the way from Connecticut, and we don’t think their west coast tour would be complete without San Diego. Furthermore, we don’t think your weekend would be complete without hearing their newest record. So one way or the other, be sure to give them a listen!

Well I’ll wrap it up for now. See you all next weekend!
