Registering a Business Visa in Russia

According to the law the maximum period of registration of a foreigner in Russia is 3 months.

Of course, this rule applies to those who have a Russian business visa for 3, 6 or 12 months. Look through your visa carefully as the very last line says that you could stay only 90 days in each 180, in russian "действует 90 дней в каждые 180".

Every 3 months you have to leave the country for another 90 days. In case you need to stay longer you can address your employer to issue a working visa for you or hand in the documents for residence permit.

Some Safety Rules in Russia

Please, always keep your documents with you. Instead of passport some carry just copies, but according to the law that is not right. A passport is your official document, where the policemen can find a russian visa and your migration card. They can easily stop you on the street to look through your datas and registration.

In case the policeman have some questions to you about your visa dates or registration rules, you can call your inviting company or the person who invited you to Russia. They are responsible for your trip and should explain and answer all the questions.

By the way, NEVER leave your passport or migration card at the tourist company's office, no matter how hard they try to convince you that they need them. For registration or any other purpose the copies are enough.

Would like to advise you to use the telex system ordering business visa support.

For 1 and 3 months visa the procedure of issuing invitation by telex usually takes about 3-5 working days. For 6 months and 1 year the time of preparation will be twice longer.

Remember this way you do not need to pay for the post service to receive visa support as it will go straight to the Russian Consulate you point out in the application form. Registration Rules for Holidays in Russia

The Christmas is coming.

Would like to remind you that the Catholic Christmas days are not holidays in Russia. So, on Dec 24 and so on you have to come for registration. All the companies, shopps and trade centres will be open as usual.

As for the New Year, the public holidays in Russia start on Jan 1st and finish on Jan 10th. During these days you are allowed not to be registered and they are officially days off.

On other days before and after the holidays you must be registered within frist 3 working days. Your inviting company or landlord should take care of your documents in time.

Useful Hints on Public Transport in Russia

If you are going to explore our city by yourself, would like to advise you to use surface public transport: buses, trolleybuses or marshrutkas - small buses that can easily be stopped by raising one's hand.

The average cost of the trip in marshrutka is 20-25 Rubles. If you are not sure of stopping the right one, you can try to stop a car (not a taxi yet), in this case the trip for example, from Moskovsky railway station to the Hermitage, will cost not more than 70-100 Rubles.

But you can always use the subway as it is still the fastest way to get to the place of destination. Almost on every station you can find a map of the undergroud in English.

Would like to inform you that there are some changes in visa regulations.

A foreign citizen can obtain a visa to Russia ONLY in the country of his/her citizenship. Exceptions include those who have a residence permit for a foreign country for the period more than 90 days.

A visa may also be issued in another country in case of urgent necessity, such as participating in international, governmental, official, scientific, sport and cultural events. A final decision in these cases would be left up to the consulate.

Before applying for a visa we strongly recommend you to contact the Russian Consulate and get more specific information about getting a visa.

New Exhibition To Be Visited in St. Petersburg

We recommend you to visit newly opened exhibition in the Hermitage called "Tea in Europe: from Exotica to Tradition". It will be open until Jan 11, so you'll have enough time to learn the history of a tea ceremony.

Speaking about the Hermitage, one of the world's greatest and most beautiful museums, it would be unfair not to mention it's brave inhabitants that protect the whole collection from... mice. These are cats. There are about 40 of them. It's been a tradition to keep cats on the first floors of the museum since the Second World War. And one day a year they have their own holiday to be praised on.

Did you know that in the beggining of the 18th century the Fontanka river was a natural border of our city?!

St Petersburg has been growing since then. Nowadays You can walk along the river's embankment exactly in the centre of the city.

By the way, 3 new metro stations in different parts of the city should be opened in the latest December this year. So, don't be afraid using the subway in here. At least, it's the fastest way to get to the place you need.

Registration Rules for Tourists Going to Russia Soon Be Absolete

Our contacts in Ministry of International Affairs told that the registration rules for foreigners soon will be cancelled!

But before that we still have to arrange a registration for you. The procedure takes about a day but it's worth making it than paying a fee. Better not to address small tourist agencies on this purpose, as they are not always professional as should be. And do not forget to ask for your obligatory migration card on the boarder! It's as important as your passport or visa, and would be necessary for getting your registration.
