As officers of the court, all defense lawyers are really on the government's side, having sworn an oath to uphold a vast, century-old conspiracy to conceal the fact that most aspects of the federal government are illegitimate, including the courts, which have no constitutional authority to bring people to trial. The defendants also believed that a legal distinction could be drawn between their name as written on their indictment and their true identity as a "flesh and blood man."

More on the Police Photo Incident

Instapundit has a great post up on this insane incident which includes an email response from a reader claiming that part of the reason police are "hot-headed jerks" is because they "deal with hot-headed jerk citizens on a daily basis as a regular part of their job."

I happen to agree with this statement, but he takes it a lot further, essentially making excuses for cops acting badly. This is the topper:

Police officers get lots of training on how to deal with citizens, while citizens get zero training on how to deal with police.

My response is simple:

1) You're right.
2) SO WHAT?

Honestly, that's one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a while. Cops act badly because citizens don't get trained to interact with them properly?

That is utterly stupid.

Neighbor killed after threats, home invasion

A Prairie Creek resident shot and killed a neighbor who had kicked in his door Tuesday evening and tried to assault him, police said.

Johnny Hawthorne shot Mekin Kantaphone with a handgun once in the head in self-defense inside Hawthorne's home, Benton County sheriff's Capt. Mike Sydoriak said.

The prosecuting attorney's office will decide whether the shooting was justified, Sydoriak said.

Kantaphone, 34, sent threatening text and voice messages to Hawthorne, 25, earlier in the day, he said.

There are allegations that the shooter was having an affair with the shootee's wife. The shootee's brother tried to keep him from going in, but he couldn't.

Arrested for taking a picture of a police officer

What happened seems clear to me: Conover annoyed the cop by taking his picture. When Conover refused to delete them, the cop got angry and arrested him. (After all, the photos might have been taken with the intention of policing the police - and how dare a mere mortal citizen do this? ) After the arrest, the officer scrambled to find some law, any law which would back up his actions.

The officer said he thought Conover was pointing a laser at him. But, um, if he thought it was a laser why did he tell him to delete the pictures?

Someone just emailed this:

This makes construction a real breeze...you can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence. Just get the wife and kids to hold the fence boards in place while you sit back, relax with a cold beer, when they have the board in the right place just fire away. With the hundred round magazine, you can build a fence with a minimum of reloading.

After a day of fence building with the new Dewalt Rapid fire nail gun, the wife will not ask you fix or build anything else. Available for a little more is the "band-aid magazine" for those near misses when fence building.

It seems that I've seen this picture in the past, but I'm not sure. Still funny, though.

Tactical Gun Shop Bleg

Now I'm looking for a couple gun shops that are either exclusively tactical or at least have a large percentage of their sales in the recreational tactical segment of the market.

I'm interested in talking with them about what they do, how they do it, and what results they've had with it. I'm more interested in recreational/sport shooting than in LE/military in this case.

Open Carry in Wisconsin

Letter to the editor of the Hudson Star-Observer:

An organization rooted in pro-gun and open carry advocacy is already preparing documents to be presented to every Wisconsin county board to affirm the right of Wisconsin's residents to carry openly and to prevent law enforcement agencies from interfering with that right by way of dubious and harassing charges of "disturbing the peace" or similar.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms petition affirms that the people have the constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other lawful purpose.

Whereas, it is unlawful for citizens to carry a concealed firearm publicly for security, self defense, hunting, recreation or any other purpose the state must then declare that open carry is not an unlawful means to exercise these rights, and that no one may restrict or infringe the citizens' lawful exercise of their constitutionally protected rights.

Wisconsin is one of two states with no concealed carry laws.

Texas man charged with firing on random motorists

A 22-year-old man has been charged with shooting at random motorists over three days in the Dallas suburbs, and prosecutors said Tuesday they would treat the charges as hate crimes.

Thai-An Huu Nguyen faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon _ two from Garland and one from Richardson. Nguyen, 22, of Garland, also was charged with deadly conduct by discharging a firearm.

Several people were injured in the shootings, which happened from June 29 to July 1 in Garland, Mesquite, Richardson and Plano. The majority of the shootings involved cars stopped at red lights or traveling on highways.

The suspect apparently said he was targeting Asians and Hispanics, and even though not all the targets were Asian or Hispanic, authorities believe that Nguyen believed them to be.
