We’re all looking for a funky bit of software or an online application, or just plain good advice to help us with our internet marketing plans are we not?

We want the GOOD STUFF!

Have you, like me, noticed a bunch of new applications along these lines recently? Are they worth the purchase price? If so how long ’til they get ‘blown’ by Google… So far ( I’m still testing it) it looks like SEnuke could be just such a tool and makes a lot of my other tools redundant.

Created by the IM equivalent of Dr Strangelove this baby has kilotons of bells and whistles that I’m exploring as we speak.

I’ve been a convert to the realities of web 2.0 marketing since last year- social bookmarking and networking, micro blogs and wikis and the hundreds of other ways to give your site:

1. Good quality backlinks
2. Credibility
3. Authority
4. Multiple rankings for your Keyword phrase on the engines

Like everyone who actually makes a living on the internet ( who isn’t a ‘guru’) I know these tactics work but they can be time consuming and the number of web 2.0 sites coming into being every day can make your brain explode!

While I’ve never got into outsourcing per se I do like automation and use it wherever possible, I mention a few ( both free and paid for) in the Tools & Resources page. I also like manageable ‘Buzz’ groups - a small team of like-minded marketers who help each other out by bookmarking or ‘buzzing’ each others sites and posts up the rankings.

So the new SEnuke application looks pretty good to me ( see video on the right) and I’ve just signed up for the free 7 day trial. Unlike a lot of ‘free’ subscription stuff out there this one uses PayPal so it’s easy to cancel at anytime. To me this shows the creators confidence in their product unlike some others where you have to jump through hoops to cancel. (Anyone else pissed off with Joel Comm and Mike Filsaime’s recent sneaky paid subscription sign ups camoflaged as ‘giving away free stuff’?)

I’m still playing with SEnuke ( going through the tedious but necessary ‘one-time’ process of creating new accounts for the 65 sites the software targets) but the elements that excite me most are on the Social Network and Social Bookmarking modules.

For example let’s say I ‘bookmark’ a newly updated blog of mine with SEnuke - I then contact my Buzz Group, who all use SEnuke, and ask them to randomly pick 5 bookmarking sites and, say, a couple of Networking sites to ‘vote’ for my post. This randomness will really help to avoid getting penalised by some of these sites.

I can see small Buzz groups of just 5 or 6 people making major contributions to each others rankings. In the past I’ve been a member of groups that became unmanageable size wise and became just too labor intensive for all concerned.

If, once you’ve finished the free trial of SEnuke and decide to keep subscribing let me know if you’s like to become part of such a small Buzz group and we’ll see how it goes.

PPS: Remember the old poor taste joke? Famous last words: 1945, The Mayor of Hiroshima, “What the f&@k was THAT!” well this could be the web 2.0 marketing equivalent. The only casualties being your competition, leave them wondering what just hit them!

I was thinking about adding John Reese’s Blogrush Widget on this site to see if it ‘fitted’ - and guess what ’site declined’ - blimey talk about a humor bypass!

Mind you I’m sure it wasn’t John Boy who made that decision I’m certain he has dozens of scantily clad minions to carry out his every request. This however begs the question, which I shall raise again and again on this site, and that is this:

Is he employing people that need the money - the security of a monthly wage?

Surely they’d be in an ideal position to follow his advice and become Internet Millionaires, or at least be in a position where they don’t need actually need a job. Makes sense right?

Am I the only person who sees the discrepancy in Guru Town here?

So, in no particular order, here are some of the copywriting, psychological tips and tricks that the gurus ( the successful ones that is) will use in their sales pitches and sales copy.

Have you found yourself being reminded that ‘most’ people trying to earn some money on the web flit from course to course, e-book to membership site? How that most are dreamers believing in the Get Rich Quick fix. The pitch goes on to explain how that the ‘majority’ are plain stupid in the way they try and earn money online. What a bunch of losers!

What’s going on here? The fact is that all of us have fallen into that trap and would love to get more focused so this resonates. But! We don’t like being considered losers right?

Next come the ‘release’. “Of course that’s not you because you’ve been smart enough to sign up to my auto-responder”. Phew! Relief! I’m not like ‘them’ I’m smart ‘cos this guys says I am not like those ‘other people’ - the people who’ll never be successful.

Next you might be asked to “..imagine that” for example:

“Imagine that every day you remained focused and followed a foolproof plan that brings money into you bank account like clockwork. Imagine making so much money that you can tell your boss where to shove it. Just think how it would feel to buy that new car with cash!” etc. etc.

Sure it’s great to fantasise about those things and believe they are possible. So we’re agreeing that we are smart and we like the idea of the money too. Suddenly we’re receptive, we like what he’s saying maybe even starting to trust him.

At this stage the guru might throw in a few testimonials.

Maybe he’ll go on to tell me that I’m already, just by reading his mail, in the top 1% knowing more than the 99% of losers. Proof? The free training video/audio/report he’s just given me is full of cutting edge material that makes his case. If I’ve watched/listened or read it I’m in the top 1%!

Wow! This is great. The information I got was pretty cool and has given me some ideas but what is he holding back? All the really good stuff I bet. I can’t wait for his next mail.

And on we go..

Part #2 - Phrases to treat with suspicion…

• I’m not in it for the money
• I want to help you ( ‘cuz I was like you once)
• I want to give something back
• I’m re-opening the membership for another 24 hours ( server meltdown!)

This page was initially going to feature all the main Gurus promotions: who was Joint Venturing with who, the ’special deals’ on offer for us to sign up for the NEXT BIG THING via their affiliate link.

I soon realised it would be a full time job. Actually, if this site were to monitor all the big names and some of the mini gurus we’d have to employ some help, Did I hear someone say outsource?

Yes, everyday, we continue to hear about some brilliant new marketing, copy-writing, traffic generating must have information - but wait….

I want you, dear reader, to understand something. Let’s say I’m building my own house - from the foundations up I’m doing it all myself ( OK I’ll get a contractor in occasionally if I’m pushed but you get the idea).

Now the question is this - what will interest me more?

1) Some guy trying to sell me new floor plans for the house, telling me I need an extra floor or garage or..

2) … a company that has a better power drill that will save me a load of time as it’s 3 times as fast as my current power tool? Result? House gets built faster, better.

THAT’S what I’m talking about and want to make clear. I love tools, they help me build things. Theories, ideas, clever shortcuts and techniques are all well and good ( maybe) but are distracting me from my main objective which is to build a house! Do you take my point?

While I love finding free tools on the web sometimes a paid for tool is the way to go. So don’t call me a hypocrite if I recommend a tool or source of information. By all means call me that, and worse, if I try and convince you to fall for the latest Guru crystal ball,hocus pocus BS!

I don’t want to patronize anyone but if you haven’t copied and pasted a good ping list into your Wordpress dashboard [ In WP 2.5 : Settings > Writing then scroll down to Update Services and paste your ping list of choice in the box underneath]. All these ping services are then notified whenever you write a new post.

And those RSS aggregator services are where the search engines go to find out what’s new!

However when you edit a post ( I make so many typos that I edit and re-edit constantly) they will be pinged each time you re-publish and so might consider you a spammer therefore you need a plugin such as Smart Update Pinger or MaxBlog Press Ping Optimizer so you will only ping once for each new post no matter how often you edit or add content.

So here’s my Wordpress ping list, I’m not saying it’s definitive or the best and do a search for ‘wordpress ping list’ and you’ll find plenty more with variations but as of 2008 this is what I use:

Why do we need to use micro-blogging in our marketing stategy and where are the best places to go and get Google Juice? It used to be the case that marketers would build hundreds or thousand of sites using automation and have all those sites link to their main money site. They were usually monetized by Adsense.

As usual Google got smarter and blew those automated sites out of their rankings. This is the Black Hat Hole from which many so called ‘Gurus’ crawled!

Suddenly, overnight, their Adsense revenue disappeared that’s when they decided that there was money to be made selling stuff to you and me using their old and obsolete earnings as ‘proof’ as to how smart they were - don’t get me started! There are assholes out there who are still flogging automated site/blog generation software - they realise it’s only a matter of time ’til those crappy sites get Google Slapped but they hope you don’t find out, at least until they have your money. Shyster Alert! Steer clear!

As usual I digress

Google also recognised the fact that all those back-linking sites sat on the same hosting accounts so the back links were not genuine. Further non of those crappy sites had any value and were not valued by others so, again, worthless for back link love. The Black Hat brigade were busted! As they will be every time.

But then with a flash of white, a cloud of dust and a hearty “Hi Ho Web 2.0 - away!” micro blogs came to town!

The Search Engines loved them! Squidoo and Hub Pages (not strictly blogs I admit) get tremendous Google Love. By building a Squidoo lens or Hub page you are automatically getting some of that love too. The same applies to the myriad micro blogging sites - Tumblr, Clear Blogs, Blogr to name just three out of dozens!

How it works:

Let’s say you’ve done some good Keyword research ( very important) and discovered that there’s a nice 3 word search phrase that people in your niche or market are searching for yet has little or light competition. Once you get good at this you’ll even consider attacking larger competition!

Imagine that Keyword phrase is “super keyword phrase” (!) then when setting up your micro blogs use the keyword as your blog’s name, even your user name (it can vary) e.g. http://superkeywordphrase.blogr.com

Use hyphens if someone else has beaten you to that name e.g. super-keyword-phrase or super-keywordphrase.

Create a post, add some media (photos, video etc. whatever you can) most importantly add a nice clickable link - preferably with a clickable image too that goes to your ‘money’ page

I believe in making my micro-blogs the best they can be with imagery, multimedia etc. That’s just the way I am coming from a design background. You may just choose to get your keyword in there a few times plus your money link and don’t forget those tags! You’d probably be right too, I think I spend ar too long tarting these up mini blogs of mine!

Each micro blog paltform has different rules of engagement but the essentials remain the same:

• Keyword phrase in blog’s name
• Keyword phrase in text a couple of times
• Good, can’t be missed, clickable text and image link to your money page
• Keyword phrase in tags options

Then you’ve got to ping, bookmark and promote the hell out of it - more on that in another post.

If you have 10 or more sites like this, on various platforms, for the same keyword phrase who’s going to be dominating the rankings for that phrase? Even if your micro-blog doesn’t sell it’s still elbowing a competitor out of the first pages of Google thus increasing your chances of getting the sale from another of your listings - Hurrah
