Google, sebagai perusahaan gurita raksasa memang punya strategi jitu untuk mempertahankan hegemoni dominasi pangsa pasar. Dan itu terlihat dari getolnya mereka melakukan inovasi berbasis teknologi yang bahkan tidak pernah terpikirkan. Salah satu adalah bahwa ternyata Google itu juga memiliki unit bisnis yang bergerak dalam urusan toilet

Sebenarnya ini bukan unit bisnis yang baru diluncurkan namun sudah sejak tahun 2007 dengan sebutan Google TiSP (Toilet Internet Service Provider), dan ternyata peluncurannya pas saat April Fool sehingga dianggap sebagai bahan lelucon oleh pemerhati Google.

Pada dasarnya Google TiSP adalah jasa internet service provider yang disediakan oleh Google secara gratis, dengan memanfaatkan fasilitas saluran pembuangan tinja kota. Bagi user yang hendak menggunakan jasa ini akan diberi TiSP Kit yang bisa dirakit sendiri oleh user, dan selanjutnya dicemplungkan kedalam saluran pembuangan melalui kloset toilet didalam rumah. Selesai.

Namun, tidak semua orang bisa memanfaatkan fasilits ini. Hanya mereka pemilik rumah yang rumahnya sudah tersambung dengan sistem pembuangan kota yang bisa menikmati ini. Dan hanya kota-kota tertentu saja di AS yang baru bisa terjangkau.

Digital Television

Another technology item that you've probably heard a lot about recently is digital television. Digital TV uses a different wavelength than traditional analog TV and has a much wider bandwidth. It also has a picture that never gets "snowy" or "fuzzy." If the signal is not strong enough, you get no picture at all, rather than the fuzzy picture you sometimes get with analog. In order to receive digital signals over the airwaves, you must have a digital TV set (one with a digital tuner inside) or an analog TV with a set-top converter. Cable and satellite TV also use digital formats, but unlike broadcaster signals, their non-High Definition digital signals are automatically converted to a format an analog TV can process, so a digital TV or converter is not needed. High Definition Television formats, even on cable to satellite, require a digital TV or a converter.

All broadcasters are now doing some broadcasts on their digital channels in addition to their normal broadcasts on their analog channels. However, there is an exception that allows them to wait until 85% of the television sets in their market are digital. This could take 10 years or more to happen. Once they all convert to digital signals, their analog channels will taken back and used for other purposes like emergency signals.

High Definition Television (HDTV) is one possible use of digital signals. HDTV uses the entire digital bandwidth and is the crystal clear format you've probably seen on TVs in electronics stores. It has no visible lines on the screen. Someone once described it as being like "watching a movie in the theater." Keep in mind that all HDTV is digital, but not all digital is HDTV. Along those same lines, not all digital TVs are HDTVs. Since digital TVs are very expensive and those with HDTV capability are even more expensive, consumers really need to keep this in mind.

The other possible use of digital signals is channel compression, often referred to as "multicasting." Non-HDTV programming does not utilize the entire width of a digital signal. Therefore, it is possible to compress two or more channels of programming into one digital signal. Satellite and cable operators do this all the time with their non-HDTV digital channels, but this process is transparent so many people don't realize it. Many broadcasters plan to use their digital signals this way during times when they are not being used for HDTV programming. For example, some plan to air all news and all weather channels in addition to their regular channels of programming.

Another new technology that starting widely used in many countries is Broadband over Power Line, or BPL. BPL is the delivery of broadband internet service over traditional power lines. A computer is connected to a special modem which is simply plugged into an electrical outlet. This kind of service could prove useful for those who cannot get traditional broadband services like cable modem or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), as almost everyone has access to electricity now. Once refined, BPL could eventually prove to be cheaper and faster than these more established services and attract away some of their customers.

While we're talking about broadband internet services, several technologies just around the corner are going to make them much faster than they are today. The typical download speeds for broadband ranges from 1.5 to 10 megabits per second (mbps) has been phased out. Nowadays, speeds of 25-100 mbps is quite common. Fast TCP which is currently used, has turbocharged all forms of currently available broadband internet connections without requiring any infrastructure upgrades.

All the major phone companies around the world has been or in the process of replacing their copper wires with high capacity fiber optic lines so that they can compete with their competitors in delivering a convenient services. Fiber optic lines show greatly increase the amount of bandwidth that can be delivered. Fiber optics allow phone companies to deliver video, either via a cable TV-type platform or a TV over Internet Protocol (TVIP) platform, and faster DSL speeds. At the same time, the phone companies are working to develop a new, more technically efficient form of DSL, called Uni-DSL.

Eventually, the current internet as we know it will be scrapped and completely replaced with a whole new internet which expected to provide speeds of up to 6000 times faster than current broadband connections! Are you ready for this?

As an internet idiot, I keep wondering on what happened around internet matters. These recent days, there was a word do take my attention : mesothelioma. Tomorrow, Sunday, May 11th 2008, will be celebrated as Mother's Day in USA. As a friend, I want to congratulate you all guys by giving you a reflection notes welcoming this celebration.

Have you ever deeply thinking about your mom on your daily live?. Have you ever showed your gratitude and respect for your Mom and gained a much better understanding of what she went through and how much she scarified to raise you.

Let me start by reminding you that there was a woman that carried you for nine months and spent countless sleepless nights taking care of you to hold the title as “Mother”.

So, let’s take a little closer look at what your Mom did for you :

Pregnancy
Do you ever imagine there were few months of pregnancy with the excitement, anxiousness and the morning sickness? Your Mom went through all of those as well, and she did it without being able to access every conceivable piece of information about pregnancy online and without all the early tests you have now to ensure us that everything is fine with her baby.

Your Mom also shared the kicks to the bladder and the backaches that come later in pregnancy. And don’t forget about labor. Your Mom’s been there, done that as well. And she probably did it with a lot less medicinal help!

Infancy
Then the real joy of motherhood begins - no sleep for months, midnight feedings and endless diaper changes. Could you imagine surviving without disposable diapers nowadays? I couldn’t, but somehow your Mom managed to wash millions of dirty cloth diapers while taking care of you.

Toddler
Just like you, your Mom eventually made it through your infancy and met the toddler version of you. She began worry about picking the right time to wean you off the bottle, the pacifier, to get you potty trained. She went through all the heartbreak and crying, and the mess that comes with it.

Preschooler
So you and your Mom finally make it past the terrible twos. By that time,she was probably torn between kids and career. Should she stay at home and be there for you 24/7, or should she continue to work to be able to afford the kind of things you want? At this stage your Mom also spend a lot of time getting you ready for school. All along she had probably been reading to you, teaching you numbers and colors.

School
You may or may not be in school yet, but even if you aren’t, I am sure she could relate to making sure that you get to school on time every morning, helping with your homework and various school projects and attending school functions. Your Mom was probably there with you every step of the way too. She shared your joys and pains. She comforted you when the other kids made fun of you.

I feel sure you have many more special memories about your Mom that you haven’t thought about in years. Why don’t you pick up the phone and call her? Spend some time with her. Take the time and make the effort, you will find a great friend in your mother. Take her on a shopping, have lunch and get some fun together. Just enjoy her company and don’t forget to thank her for all she has done for you. After all, you wouldn’t be the great human being you are today without her.

They say there is a great woman behind every successful man, but there is also a wonderful mother behind every great human being.

Lama tak mendengar kabar tentang si kawan ini, tau-tau ku tau dia sudah membuka toko buku online. Aha..si jago Linux itu ternyata sudah mengembangkan sayap merambah dunia cari duit.

Toko Buku Otakkiri.Com yang baru dibukanya ternyata sudah banyak menyediakan buku-buku yang bermutu, baik buku pelajaran sekolah, buku manajemen, buku agama, buku pengembangan diri dan, pastinya, buku-buku komputer. Dan, eloknya, bagi pembeli di seputaran Jogya, diberi pelayanan COD (Cash On Delivery), artinya buku langsung diantar ke rumah dan kita bayar di rumah.(ya..kayak MacDelivery, gitu,lho..)

Tapi saat ku melihat-lihat situsnya, ada yang rasanya janggal buatku. Bisnis toko buku online adalah jenis usaha yang sangaaaaat kompetitif. Jadi diperlukan keuletan dan technical skill agar toko buku kita dikenal orang dan sehingga sering dikunjungi. Salah satu upaya adalah mengusahakan agar apabila seorang mencari kata "buku" atau "toko buku" di mesin pencari (Google,Yahoo,MSN), maka diupayakan agar toko buku kita berada pada urutan teratas dalam daftar hasil pencarian. Ini namanya, kalo gak salah, SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Nah, kejanggalan yang ku lihat, ternyata dari Page Source situs ini, tak kutemukan kedua kata "buku" dan "toko buku" tadi di meta name keywords nya.

Malah kategori-kategori buku yang ada. Aku gak tau apa pertimbangannya sehingga ini yang dimasukkan. Rasanya, kalo aku mau beli buku secara online maka yang pertama kucari adalah Toko Buku.

Keunggulan :

Tidak ada ‘penengah’ seperti pada kasus Sedo. Domain Hop mengklaim bahwa iklan mereka menghasilkan revenue lima kali dari produk kompetitor mereka.

Kekurangan :

Anggapan umum bahwa Google memiliki optimisasi yang lebih baik dibanding search engine yang lebih kecil seperti Kanoodle ini, oleh sebab itu mereka tidak terlalu handal dalam menargetkan iklan ke pembaca yang tepat yang berujung pada hasil CPM yang rendah.

NameDrive
NameDrive memiliki interface yang sederhana dan program affiliasi yang dapat anda pergunakan untuk sign-up pengguna lain.

Keunggulan :

Dibayar bulanan, program affiliasi yang memberikan penghasilan tambahan dari sekedar parkir domain, dan potensi penambahan domain stat tracking. Anda juga dapat mendaftarkan domain anda yang mau dijual.

Kekurangan:

Situs mereka tidak secara pasti mengungkapkan pembagian hasil dari namadomain yang anda parkir, yang bisa membuat anda bertanya-tanya tentang pendapatan anda.

CashParking CashParking berasal dari GoDaddy. Hanya mereka penyedia jasa domain parking yang menagih pembayaran untuk penggunanya.Saya tidak sarankan anda menggunakan jasa mereka.

Keunggulan:

Barangkali, jasa mereka bisa memberi anda CPM yang lebih tinggi, seperti halnya GoDaddy yang menjual habis iklan langsung kepada anda dan situs lain yang sejenis.

Kekurangan:

Biayanya USD. 3,99.- per bulan.Kalau anda memiliki alasan yang kuat untuk membayar domain parking melalui GoDaddy, tolong email saya.
