Dates Have Been Set for the 2012 Taste of Atlanta

The dates have been set for the 2012 edition of “Atlanta’s premier food + wine + beer + cocktail festival,” Taste of Atlanta. Mark your calendars for October 5^th, 6^th, and 7^th and make plans to head on over to Midtown at Tech Square for this fabulous event that showcases some of the best restaurants and most celebrated chefs from right here in Atlanta.

Here are some details about the event:

Great food from over 80 area restaurants
Family Food Zone featuring interactive cooking demonstrations and hands on activities
The Wine + Beer + Cocktail Experience with tasting tents and educational seminars (this is an event for VIP ticket holders ages 21 and older)

Learn to Cook Something New for Summer Gatherings at Simple Abundance Cooking Classes

The summer entertaining season is almost here, which means there will be plenty of opportunities to impress your family and friends with your culinary skills. If you are looking to better your skills and learn a new recipe, consider attending one of the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Simple Abundance cooking classes.

On May 21^st, Executive Chef David Bradley of the soon-to-be-opened Fifth Group Restaurant Lure will share his talents in preparing fresh seafood in the class “Georgia Shrimp from Head to Tail.” Chef David will teach participants how to use all parts of the shrimp to create three different starters that are perfect for summer gatherings.

On June 4^th, Chef Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene will show participants how to create a three-course meal in the class “Cooking Full-On Farm to Table II.” The catch is he’ll be doing so based on “surprise” ingredients from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) box.

These are just two of the upcoming Simple Abundance classes. You can find the plans for other classes and register to attend any of these classes by visiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank website.

Annual NKBA Design Competition Reveals New Kitchen Trends

While the majority of our blog posts focus on experiencing food here in Atlanta, we do like to discuss kitchen design ideas every now and then. Earlier this year, the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) held its annual Design Competition, where hundreds of designers submitted examples of their work to be judged in a variety of categories. Through the competition, the NKBA discovered several new emerging trends in kitchen and bath design, and since these are such fresh design ideas, we thought it would be nice to discuss a few of the kitchen design trends today. If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen or are building a new home, you may want to take note of these ideas.

Glossy finishes and fixtures such as shimmering surfaces, shining fixtures, high-sheen finishes, and lighting accents.
Color infusion behind glass, like painted walls behind glass panels or a glass backsplash.
The white kitchen is being reinvented with varying hues of white being used and combined with other colors and interesting textures to create a strong, sleek, and superb look.
Traditional technology is being incorporated in clever, non-traditional manners. For example, fridge drawers are being integrated into the cabinet space for an overall clean look.
