RECAP: Kim Cole Celebrates YOU! Event

Last Thursday, the hubs & I + Bopee had the pleasure of attending the Kim Coles Celebrates YOU! event at Natural Resources Salon. I think this is the 1st time the hubs has ever accompanied me to a natural hair event. I usually go with other girls or by myself. His real motive? He wanted to meet Kim Coles! Unfortunately, he didn't get to meet her, but we still had a fabulous time talking with some off of my blog buddies, meeting new people, & eating of course!

Tamara of Natural Hair Rules & Ashley of Medley, Inc. Both of these ladies are awesome!!

Great food....

It's Daddy & Bopee! Khloa was a hit as usual! She was up in there clapping & everything.

Me, Donica of Feel Bootiful Inside, & Reiko of God's Favorite Shoes. I hadn't seen Reiko in soooooo long. It was so good to see her!!

Natural Resources presented her with a gift which was a.....

cowboy hat! She is officially a Texan!

Your girl Khloa immediately grabbed Rocquelle from Consider Me Lovely's blouse as she walked by. She apparently loves sequins! lol And check out Rocquelle's mohawk!!

Hair: This is the best pic I could get of it. It's a last minute twistout turned into an updo! I set the twistout a few hours before we left....took all of 10 minutes. I tend to do quick twistouts when I'm in a rush, lol. But hey they work for me.

Kim Coles also did a blogger roundtable with the bloggers after the event. I'm gonna upload some of the footage from that as well. :-)

Georgia, One-Woman Play, Coming to Houston & Austin!

Georgia focuses on the relationship of a young couple, using four characters to analyze and open the door on one of the most taboo interactions between a man and a woman in a relationship: RAPE. The play is suitable for all pg-13+ audiences and has already found success with sold-out shows at New York City's famous Nuyorican Poets Café, a Mother's Day Dinner & a Play presentation, a presentation at New Jersey City University & Fordham University, and a one-night performance at Washington D.C.'s Busboys and Poets. The play was also performed as part of the United Solo Theater Festival & The One Theater Festival in NYC.

The play is written by Houston native, Fariso Jordan, who also handles the acting duties for the 75-minute performance.

Georgia debuts in Houston, TX for a three-day run beginning on Friday, May 25th with follow-up shows on the 26th & 27th.

Mother's Day Hair & Style

I spent the day with the hubs & Khlo Face at Bayou Bend Collection & Gardens in Houston where we toured the former historic home of philantropist Ima Hogg. Boasting 19 rooms filled with beautiful art & furnishings, this home was beyond immaculate! The hubs & I were joking about what we would do if this were our home. Dreaming is free. ;-) Chile, I would have dinner parties all the time! I wish I could show you photos of the inside, but we weren't allowed to take photos inside the home...However, you can view pics on their site here.We took our time traveling throughout the house & the 14 acres that surrounded it. Yes. 14 ACRES. All that land. Shout out to the people who keep that land looking gorgeous! Definitely a beautiful & relaxing Mother's Day. (It's been over a year & I still can't believe I'm somebody's mama, lol)

I'm demolished this cake & it was so good!! Hubs got it from HEB for $6. Believe it or not, this was all I wanted. :D #extremecakelover

Natural Hair Puff + Thrift Store Dress

I was scared standing on that plank next to that water ya'll...Not a fan of large bodies of water.

I have been dying to wear this dress! I purchased it from the Family Thrift Center here in Houston for $6.47. :-) As you can tell from the pics, this dress was blowing in the wind all day yesterday. This is the perfect dress for a nice spring or summer day. The brand is Derek Heart & I recently realized that a lot of my dresses are in fact DH. They make some cute dresses!

Nail polish: Wet N Wild "Sunny Side Up"
I really like this color!

Hair: I didn't know what to do with my hair so after I moisturized with CARA B Naturally Daily Moisturizer & applied aloe vera gel to my edges, I threw it in a puff. Ohhhhh. Ohhhh. Ohhhh. Just throw it in a puff! lol! Turned out pretty good too...

1st Braid Out on Natural Hair!

Look at Bopee Bo! She looked so pretty in her little dress.

Owwwww. The back. Man, I wanna go back and get the purple & blue colors too!

Dress snagged at Ross for $9. Oh and I experimented white nails! :-) I'm surprised the hubs didn't say anything crazy like, "Why do you have white out on your nails?"

These were taken at Khloa's 1st birthday party & throughout the day. I don't think I have a good pic of the braid out when I first separated the braids at the beginning of the day. Too busy running around! This was done on flat ironed hair...told ya'll I would be doing it for real this time! Throughout the day, my hair did fluff out a little on it's own & you guys already know I loved it! LOL, the bigger, the better. Hopefully, we'll have the pics back from the photographer in the next week so I post the celebration (the cake smash & the party pics)! I've already posted a few on the Facebook page. ;-) Check them out! I have wayyyyy more pics to post!

Twist Out 'Froed Out

My hair at the Houston Children's Festival this past weekend. Initially, I did a speedy twist out that I conjured up at the last minute. These are the results after a few hours in the Houston sun....

Prop I found for Khloa's 1st birthday cake smash. ;-)

They haven't invented an anti-humidity cream/gel/spray/ that will hold the 'fro down. LOL

I LOVE WHEN MY HAIR SWELLS LIKE THIS! :D And it was so soft!

Khloa's 1st Birthday & Hair Talk

Hey guys!

Sorry for the lack of posts! I've been so busy over the last week getting Khloa's 1st birthday shendig details together! She's having a birthday cake smash photo shoot on her birthday which is April 5th & then a birthday party on the 7th. I'm SO EXCITED!!! :D Ya'll, I'm so engulfed in the details of her celebration...everything has to be just so. I want the shoot & her birthday party to scream, "Khloa!" Ya'll know how I do! If you don't, take a gander at her 1 month shoot (which continues to be one of my popular posts) We also have family coming in town! :D Some may say, "She won't even remember the party/cake smash." This could be true, but she'll have these photos to look back on for the rest of her life. :-) That's extremely important to me.

I've been rocking a curly 'fro for like a week now. I know I said I'd be giving them a break due to the ssk's, but I couldn't help it! This style is just toooo easy & it's a time saver! This is why it will forever be a staple of mine. Flat-ironing my hair (for real this time!) sometime in the next week or so to do a length check & cut out those dang ssk's...I may also do a trim depending on how my ends look.

'Fro Fashion Week: Pt. 3 Massage, Thrifting, & Fashion Show!

Here it is a month later & I'm still talking about 'Fro Fashion Week. lol! Okay, well let's get into it. This will be final part of my recap.

Sunday started off w/ me trying to find a store to get some batteries for my old camera. Eboni spotted me looking crazy outside of the hotel & was kind enough to take me to get some...I thought we would never find a store. I had no idea there were very few stores in downtown Atlanta. Mind you, I'm talking about a Walgreens, CVS, etc. Even a corner store would've been great. Finally, we found a CVS & I got my batteries! Thanks again Eboni! lol :-)

Now my day could really start! So I started off w/ a massage in the Shea Moisture suite.

My masseuse! I was so sleepy at the end of the massage. I wanted to go back up to my room & take a nap. She did an incredible job!

I saw AfroBallerina again on Sunday! (why do i look thicker than usual in this photo?)

I attended a "How To Thrift" type workshop hosted by Two Stylish Kays. They actually had stuff for sale in workshop! I had to indulge! I'll post a pic of my new items in another post.

Eboni was one of the lovely models. It was great how they put together accessories & outfits & the many ways you can wear an item.

Beautiful belt they styled on this model.

I took my goodies up to my room & recorded this video. Then, I headed back downstairs for the grand finale: the fashion show!!

Adrienne, the editor-in-chief over at Sadiddy Magazine. Her hair color is extremely vibrant!!! I loved it! I think I took another pic that I'll put on Twitter or Facebook tomorrow.

The rapper had us all singing "Naturally Beautiful. Perfect the way you are. Naturally Beautiful. Girl, you're a super star!" This woman came from the audience & danced to the song. She was getting it!

Jade from Fashion Rouge. Hot hair! I love see unique hair color!

Taren Boone, the founder of 'Fro Fashion Week. Beautiful! I got a pic of the back of her dress too. ;-) Keep scrolling down.

That's it! I hope you guys enjoyed my 'Fro Fashion Week recaps! :-) FFW was a FAB intimate, family oriented conference. The suites, demos, workshops, Penthouse Party, Bloggers Brunch, the attendees...I had a ball. I met so many people & everyone was so easy to talk to. I felt catered to the entire time. The FFW team made sure that it was enjoyable experience to the MAX. Tarin was such a sweet & cool person! She & her team did an excellent job! I even spent time chatting w/ her about the DMV. If you're from the DMV, you already know what I'm talking about. lol! Definitely check out Fall 2012 FFW especially if you're in the Atlanta area. I had a SPECTACULAR time & I hope to attend another one!

I Made My 1st Pair of Earrings!!!

Actually, as you can see- 2 pair! Never thought that one day I'd actually make some earrings. lol, I looked into earring making a few years ago & was like "Nah, I'm good with buying them." lol However, I looked online recently for some inspiration on easy ways to make earrings. I'm talking as simple as possible because I wasn't trying to do anything too difficult. I found a great video on making buttons earrings from She Sings Lovely on YouTube. She has a great, EASY tutorial!! All it took was a trip to Joann's Fabrics & Wal-Mart & I was all set!

The earring material you see above is from some old jean shorts I can't fit anymore & this light gold belt I never wear. Currently, on the hunt for more items around our place that I can make into earrings. I'm definitely going to try & make some button earrings! What do ya'll think??

Product Review: nuNAAT Karite' Special!

I received these nuNAAT products a few months ago. This is the Karite' line which boasts shea butter in all of the products. I'd never heard of nuNAAT so of course the product junkie that lives inside of me was curious to try them out. ;-)

Masque Reparateur Cream Mask:

From the jar: The Cream Mask Shea Butter designed to finish the dry, damaged & broken hair. It's formula ultra-rich with Shea Butter, nourishes intensely, in-depth hydrate, repairs & regenerates capillary fibre of the root of to the points. Smooth, sheath & glosses your hair with finds health & vitality.

My Experience: This mask is very creamy & goes onto my hair very well. However, I didn't reap much of a moisturizing benefit from it. Shea Butter is about the 12th ingredient on the list so I'm guessing that's why. After rinsing, my hair pretty much felt the same as it did before I applied the mask. It has a relaxing, nice smell to it though.

Combing Cream:

From the bottle: Without rinsing, the Combing Cream Shea Butter is a daily care which nourishes and hydrates capillary fibre, the product have nutritive properties and revitalizing action. It softens, protects, facilitates the disentangling and bringing softness and brightness.

My Experience: Now, I like this stuff! Very moisturizing. This cream is excellent for my dry hair. I use it on wet & dry hair as a moisturizer. It works well on both. However, the 'combing' cream is not a 'detangling' cream at all. Just wanted to clarify this because the bottle summary & actual name may make some ladies think it's a detangling agent. It is not. Well, at least for my hair.

*Before heading out to Wal-Mart one day the hubs & after slatering my hair w/ the Combing Cream, the hubs remarked that my hair smelled good. So he liked it! ;-)*

Nourishing Shampoo:

From the bottle: Very soft & creamy, the Nourishing Shampoo Shea Butter carefully washes & disentangles the dry, damage, & broken hair. It's formula rich in Shea Butter strengthens, revitalizes, & hydrates capillary fibre.You hair becomes very flexible, brilliant, & easy to comb.

My Experience: Great shampoo for clarifying the hair if you have a lot of build up. Didn't really moisturize my hair at all. The shea butter is way down on the ingredient list. I think it's no. 14. My hair was squeaky clean after using this shampoo!

Observation:
I noticed that in all of the products, shea butter was very far down on the ingredient. Just a few ingredients from the last ingredient. Too far down to make that much of an impact on my hair. I was very surprised to see this as the whole line revolves around the benefit of shea butter. Also, the smell of this line is not overpowering at all. All of the products have the same nice smell to them. A big plus for me.

AntiFrizz Therma Active:

From the bottle: Revolutionist, the Antifrizz Therma Active Shea Butter smoothes carefully, sheath, & hydrate & glosses the hair. It facilitates the brush & protects the hair from the heat of the drier. The hair is smoothed, flexible, silky & luminous.

My Experience So Far: Still reviewing this because of my lack of heat usage! I will say this though. I mistakenly used this the other day thinking it was the combing cream & surprisingly my hair was very soft. I'll be using the Therma Active on my next few tension stretching sessions & maybe even when I flat iron next.

Healthy Hair Icon: Ty!

4. How do you keep your hair looking fly? I let me curls do what every they please. A part of being natural was letting my hair do whatever daily.

5. What's the craziest thing you've ever done to your hair? When I was younger I went to the salon (against my mother's permission) and shaved one side of my hair like Salt and Pepa. I had watched the "Push It" video over and over again. Then I saw Mc Lyte rocking the same look. So I convinced my stylist that my mother was ok with it. I was punished for a month but I LOVED my hair and I was THE flyest girl in 8th grade. Go figure that now I'm rocking a mohawk, LOL.

6. What are your fave hair products? Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue, Jane Carter shampoo and conditioner, and raw shea butter for my scalp.

7. What is the hair product, tool, or accessory that you absolutely can not live with out? I've been using Shimmering Lights since I was a teen to brighten the grey that I've always had. I shampoo with it at least 2x a month whether my hair is permed or natural.

8. Favorite hairstyle? My mohawk was a big change for me. But it matches my sassy attitude and fearless lifestyle.

9. What's your favorite color? Purple. But I wear mostly grey and black.

10. The best season for your hair is Fall & Spring because it's less humidity in the hair and hair stays soft and flowy.

11. The worst season for your hair is Summer because it's usually 100+ outside and my hair tends to frizz up no matter what product I've used.

1. Last month, I placed her 1st barrette in her hair. She finally has enough hair to clip into a barrette. I have been WAITING for this moment! Or so I thought....

2. I use hair products in her hair now. :D I waited until her 9th month to introduce her hair to hair products. No need initially. Then, I noticed her hair becoming a little dry. CARA B Naturally sent her some products. Not me! lol Her! (even though I use them too) So far her hair loves the Moisturizing Hair Mist & the Leave-In Conditioner/Daily Moisturizer.

She's growing up so fast! Meanwhile, the hubs & I are struggling to keep up with her little active self. Also, her 1st birthday is coming up in April! :D Didn't I just have her yesterday??!

Horseback Riding on Valentine's Day

In the 5th grade, my class went on a trip & we all had a chance to sit on a policeman's horse. I declined because I was way too scared to do something like that. It's always been one of those things I've regretted. So the hubs treated me to a 1 hour adventure trail ride. When he 1st told me about it, I was so excited! Then, Valentine's Day rolled around. That's when I got nervous. Real nervous. What the hell was I about to do again?! After arriving at Cypress Trails, I was no longer nervous: Shoot, I was SCARED.

Checking out my helmet. Didn't expect a huge mirror in the middle of a farm, but I was glad it was there. lol! I didn't like any of the helmets. I just picked out one that could fit over my hair! And that was no easy feat even after putting my hair in a twisted down classy bun.

It took me a month of Sundays just to MOUNT the horse. Notice the woman in front of the horse? That's Meechie! Looking at her twa really made me miss my old one. She was my instructor for the day. We hit it off right away.

Finally, because I was getting nowhere (lol) Meechie showed me by mounting the horse herself.

At last! On the horse! I believe her name was Sen...

We experienced dips, hills, walking near cliffs (that's what they looked like to me!) & walking across water. That scared feeling hit me at times, but the horse seemed to know what she was doing so that eased me a lot. As we were riding back to the ranch, the hubs said he could hear us yacking about hair. LOL We talked about natural hair the entire time! Products, YouTube videos, bloggers, you name it!

Had to get a snapshot with Meechie. She did an excellent job leading me on the trail. :D Her & Eboni have convinced me to try SheaMoisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Even though SheaMoisture sponsored 3 giveaways for my HairGurl Summer Affair last year, I have yet to try their products. I have so much stuff that I'm trying to keep my spending to a limit when it comes to hair products. I hope to try out the Curl Enhancing Smoothie really soon though!

My hair. I twisted the middle down & did a classy bun at the botton. I left a little of the top out. I should add that this is the 1st time I've done this bun since I've been natural. I missed it! Ya'll know I used to do this bun all the time when I was relaxed.

Have you guys ever been horseback riding?? Would you try it?? I definitely wanna go back out there & go for another ride!

While watching Trina get her hair braided, I listened to Key answer questions for the attendees in the room. She was very knowledgeable about hair & even shared traumatic experiences from her own hair journey. Later on, I grabbed some food with Eboni, Trina, & Constance. I changed my clothes & then headed back downstairs to the Gifting Suite. I def didn't prepare myself for the amount of "gifts" I was about to receive!

Shea Moisture was in the house! Those cupcakes were great. Too bad I didn't get a chance to finish it. Even though I've co-hosted 3 giveaways w/ them for the HairGurl Summer Affair I still haven't tried their hair products, but I did get a few skin & body products. Been using the Coconut & Hibiscus lotion. Not only does it moisturize my skin to the max, it also leaves a nice shine as well.

I had to take a pic of the back of this woman's shirt. Ya'll know my obsession w/ unique back designs of dresses. lol

Tarin, the creator & founder of 'Fro Fashion Week! If you look closely at my jacket, you'll see that it appears that I have on a brooch. Well, it's a pair of my earrings-the one's from this post. Eboni put them in my jacket for me! What a cool idea for earrings! I never would've come up with something like this. It definitely adds a vintage flair to the jacket.

Around this time, my camera died on me. :-( We headed up to the Penthouse Party & I felt brave enough to ditch the jacket. The next 3 pics were hijacked from Eboni. lol

Here's the back of my dress. I was really self-conscious about wearing it. Eboni convinced me to just go for it. When I bought it, I didn't realize how short it is. I like short dresses, but this was one was just too short. Ignore my rusty elbows! lol
