God knows I'm a fan of Beyonce Knowles-Carter! I'm definitely not the hater type when it comes to women, especially African-American women, getting paid and signing checks! She's a helluva vocalist, performer, and well...I don't know about her acting skills, just yet.

But, I will say this...on top of having tons of money to throw around...I'm so thankful that she's revamped her hair team. Sometimes she has an occasional slip, but she's definitely improved from those Destiny's Child days!

I would like to see Beyonce take more risks with her hair. Her hair is very predicatable: layered, straight or wavy. But then I guess, that's her signature look. She's comfortable with it, and I'm sure Mr. Carter has gotten used to pulling on it. : )

Let's face it...Eva P.(Pigford) wears hair like a third accessory! Her hair definitely shows off her fun-loving personality and her versatile hair texture. Her naturally curly hair has also been sported bone straight, wavy, and as a fro'. I tip my hat, my wallet, and bow my head to a hair goddess that's not afraid to pull a bag of tricks out of her head!

Hair Frustration!!

We all go through it...you wake up and look in the mirror and say, WTF! Your hair is a complete mess and you have no idea how to resurrect it back to life. You're tired of doing your hair! Everyday - curling iron, flat iron...all that spells, h-e-a-t. Something that your hair can surely do without. What's worse, you have highlights/color, so the hairstyle has to be appealing and your hair is at a length where a ponytail is a far reach.
Braids, weave, or cut it all off? These are the thoughts that peruse through my mind as I look in the mirror. So what am I going to do? Well, by the 12 o'clock hour I will have figured it out. Right now, my hair is in a "street" ponytail...the ponytail that was never supposed to be one! Hopefully, my next style will be a long-lasting one!

Imagine being 12 years old and already rolling in your very own six-figure bank account. Now some of you are thinking that this could only happen if you were one of the Simmons kids or your parents were the Hiltons. But this is not the case for self-made entrepreneur Leanna Archer, who at the age of 8, turned a home made hair product into a six figure business. She says on her website Leanna's Hair, that her parents didn't take her idea seriously in the beginning. So, she turned into her own street team and began pushing the product to her classmates to try out. Once their parents started to contact Leanna about how they could purchase the product, that's when mom and dad decided to fine-tune their hearing and give their daughter's vision some serious thought. On her website she declares, "After ignoring me for about a year, Leanna’s Inc. was registered in New York and a website was created and now people from all over including Canada and the United Kingdom, close friends, relatives and my parent's co-workers are using Leanna’s hair products."

It's so awe-inspiring to hear stories like Leanna's. She's only 12 and at her own beckoning and not because her parents were rolling in dough, she made a vision into a reality and can I spin that broken record again, "SHE'S ONLY 12!!!"

So, what's so great about the product? Well, I haven't had the opportunity to try it out, but I am ordering a few of her recommended products online as we speak! But here's what she has to say about her product:

For those of you who've attempted the short look, but found it too high maintenance...you're probably now experiencing...the grow-out phase. Or what I like to call the "funky stage". The time period when your hair isn't short and it's not even bob-length. You can opt to braid your hair up or sew in a full head of weave, but maybe you don't want that stress on your hair. I have to jump on the Simmons' bandwagon and say, that these girls are not only about their business, making and shaking moves with the Pastry collection, but their hair styles are always a thumbs up!

Love Vanessa's angle sharp bob & Angela's new dark layers.

Vanessa and Angela's soft layers. I think Angela's highlights suit her complexion better than her new black look.

Not only do their outfits look amazing, but their hairstyles are debonair! I really love Angela's spanish wavy tresses.

Sometimes our hair needs a little boost in the finishing category. But don't you hate, when it's your first time in the chair of new hairstylist, and she pulls out the old faithful red can... spraying you into a cloud of dust! Can I get a gas mask next time!

Right before I sit down in a stylist's chair, I tell he or she what I like and what I don't like: Oil-based Spray (I'm not a rusted screw you're trying to loosen) and no alcohol-based spritz, by no means!

Here are some styling products that give you sinful shine and hold minus the fog and flat hair!

Organic Root Stimulator presents....Olive Oil Sheen Spray ($4)
Don't let the price tag deter you, it's about the only aeresol-based spray that leaves your hair feeling light and shiny.

SUMMER is HOT! But Not Always For Hair...

I don't know what texture of hair you have, but when it comes to hot temperatures, humidity, and my hair...it just doesn't mix! When it's hot, I normally begin to perspire in my head first, which leads to poofy-afro-inspired-confused-looking hair! The straw that will certainly break the camel's back... How about a little rain in the forecast?! END RESULT: What the hell is that furry puppy doing on her head!

What should I do? Besides put a bag over my head...here's an alternative:

#1 - Stay inside when it's humid. Face it, you'll wish you had've when the dew drops!

No for real this time...

#1 - Opt for a curly hairstyle, if you have naturally wavy hair. This way, you're not susceptible to looking too much like the before-picture when the humidity takes control.

#2 - Try humidity resistant agents like, no-frizz products, silicon based products to help you get through until you get to your bat cave!

#3 - Keep it braided or weaved up until the heat wave dissipates! Then your hair can return to a more stable atmosphere!

While I couldn't find the girl that actually posted the video that I learned from, I've posted a few videos here of amateur tutorials that I think we all could learn a thing or two from! Hair Pimp #1 - The 2nd Best Flat Iron

I've actually had the pleasure of indulging in my own CHI flat iron. The best in the market of styling tools, for a whopping $125 I thankfully received it as a Christmas present from my mother, an ex-beautician. Turned on by the soft texture produced from its ceramic plate when heated, my stylist told me to go ahead and invest. That was almost four years ago, unfortunately, my CHI iron didn't make it to 2008. A shortage in the wiring (from wrapping it around the iron when traveling) has turned off the flickering light for good.

Fortunately, after the CHI debut there were many companies vowing to have the CHI-quality but at a cheaper cost. Upon staying with a cousin in Brooklyn who noticed my handicapped CHI iron, she showed me her RED ceramic flat iron. After conducting a test drive on my Dominican styled hair, I was sold! And what even sealed the deal, I discovered that the retail price was an affordable $24.99!

I know the URL bothers some, but hey that's what sells...phrases that get your attention! And when I say "Ho" I'm certainly not referring to any person or even myself in the obvious denotation (a woman or man who engages in sexual acts for money, surprisingly that's what Webster said.)

HAIR is a terrific method of expression. Although I'm pretty certain we all believe our own to be the gospel, it's definitely not a one-size fits all industry. Whether you're digging hard hair in the Dirty South or natural-inspired hair in the Mid-Atlantic, Dominican signature styles in New York and unbe-weave-able locks in LA...hair is hair, whether purchased or home-grown...it's you!

I hope that as you make your next hair purchase or decide on a new hairstylist you keep all the things I say in mind!
