FREE How to make Earring Hoops Wire Jewelry Making Tutorial

Today we're going to teach you a basic wire jewelry lesson and that is how to make your own earring hoops. Learning how to make your own earring hoops gives you the option to choose your preferred size and make variations to it.

Step 1: Depending how big you would want your earring hoops to be, cut 20 ga or 18 ga wire adding at least 0.5 inch for the loop.

Step 2: Measuring 0.5 inch from the tip of the wire, with your round nose pliers, grip the tip and make a turn to create a loop.

Step 3: Use a round object, a spool or mandrel and shape the wire like shown in this picture.

Step 4: Using the tip of your flat nose pliers, bend the tip of the wire and cut off excess wire.

Step 5: You can slide in a bead and insert the tip of the wire back to the loop. You're done!

Another way to create earring hoops with a bail is to simply take a round object and wrap the wire like shown in this picture. In this tutorial, we used the end of the nose pliers. You can also use a mandrel, a lipstick case or a big chunky pen.

After wrapping and creating a perfect circle, make a loop on one end of the wire to serve as your bail and wrap the excess wire. You now have your earring frame.

Now, I know you're thinking these are just simple tutorials, but choose your earring hoops and get ready with a pair because you're going to use this on a special project that we're going to create next week!

It’s nice to know that people are inspired by other people and variations of jewelry designs come out by just looking at a particular jewelry. I get inspired too by other artisans and it gives me that boost to try on other things and create my own. Like this piece I saw from Dana of Dana’s Jewelry Designs.

Dana called these beauties her Delightful Bangles.
How did she came up with the design? Well, she got inspired by the Rajah Bangle from Lark Crafts.

See how totally different the two pieces are? Though they both used wire coiling or wrapping techniques and used crystals as embellishments and bead wrapped them onto the bangle they are two different creations. And I bet from these two creations, you can still create another version.

Hey, I think that would be a nice challenge for everyone! Learning the techniques used in creating these bangles and then create your own version using the techniques you've learned. You can either create another bangle, a wire necklace, or a ring, or even maybe a pair of earrings. Use your imagination, play with colors and create something you like, or you can wear, or sell.

Finally, we had some time to publish the tut and we promised our friends from Handmade Jewelry Club Fanpage that we're going to teach them how to create the ring. Well, the wait is over! Gather some seed beads, beading thread and a focal bead of your choice and follow the steps how to create your own Rainbow Ring!

The ring may look simple but the summarized steps is one of the basic way if you want to embellish or surround and beadweave around a focal bead.

Step 1: Insert a nylon thread into your focal bead and position the focal bead at least ¾ the length of your thread.

Step 2: On your right thread, slide in several wooden beads. In this tutorial, we used 7 (3mm dia.) seed beads for a 1cm dia. focal bead. Bring the thread with the wooden beads in counter-clockwise direction back thru the focal bead then pull your thread.

Step 3: With the same thread you just pulled, slide in the same number of wooden beads then bring your thread back thru the focal bead but this time, go clockwise and then pull your thread.

Step 4: After pulling the thread, continuously insert the thread back thru the wooden beads on your right side and slide in 1 moew wooden bead.

Step 5: After sliding in 1 wooden bead, continuously insert the same thread back thru the wooden beads on your left side. When you reach the very last bead slide in 1 more wooden bead and insert the thread all the way around the right wooden beads again until you have both thread in upright position.

Step 6: Now that you have both of your threads in upright position we’ll start to weave the ring band. Using RAW or right angle weaving technique, cross your left thread and insert into the first two wooden beads. Like shown in this picture, slide in 3 seed beads on both of the threads. To crisscross the threads, slide 3 more seed beads and then pull your thread.

This is how the ring band should look like. When you reach your desired length just insert the thread into the wooden beads.

Featured Tutorial: Crocheted Necklace

I tried to make a crocheted jewelry this recent weekend after watching a video tutorial from Karla Schaefer and here’s what I came up with.

This is my first time to crochet a jewelry though I tried before to create crocheted coasters. I wasn't successful at doing that :( Crocheting is not my thing, but crocheted jewelries are such a beauty and I find them unique so I tried to make one to test my skill.

In creating the necklace I used 26ga white coated copper wire and blue, brown and yellow pea-shaped faceted gemstones. My experience in creating the necklace is that it's not actually hard to crochet with wires and you don't have to create perfect loops. Random size of loops actually adds design to the piece so you don't have to be an expert in crocheting to make a crocheted jewelry. Besides that, the only thing you need to know is how to do is single crochet, slip stitch to create a circle and how to add rows to a single crochet. Well, maybe there's a lot that you can do with different types of crochet stitches but learning these basic stitches can be a starter to make a crocheted jewelry.

Who likes Hello Kitty? I do!!!

Cute little cartoon character, isn't she? I got this image from an avid fan of Hello Kitty named Xian. I am also a fan of Hello Kitty. I've collected items like mugs, pens, stuff toys, plates, figurines, rings and my favorite but already a vintage item, a Hello Kitty radio with cassette tape player. Yep, still a cassette tape player that's why it's vintage LOL. It's not working anymore but I am still keeping it.

Hello Kitty character is timeless just like Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse. Grown ups today have been a fan of Hello Kitty once in their kiddie life. I have been and still up to now I am a fan. I believe there's no soul in the world who doesn't know about Hello Kitty. It has been a collectible item to many.

It would be nice to create our own Hello Kitty character over and over again, don't you think?

Beaded Cat Hello Kitty Ring Tutorial

This beaded cat is created by XQDesigns. It has those black eyes, tiny little red nose and it even has that flower bow on it's head.
The tutorial provides detailed graphical pattern for each step as well as pictorial step by step are provided to give better clarity of the steps supporting the graphical pattern. Most people will rely on the graphical pattern and skip the pictorial steps; however, for a beginner you may prefer to use the pictorial steps to give you a head start in making the ring.

There are lots of clasps available at the market, but creating our own clasps, beaded or wired we can create a unique handmade jewelry piece with a personal touch. We’ve featured yesterday and gave away a free tutorial on Beaded Clasp, why not explore more on the different designs and ways to create a clasp.

Similar to the beaded clasp we featured yesterday, here is a Toggle Clasp designed by Armored Drake

This toggle claps looks to me a very sturdy clasp, made of 20ga wire ring designed with wire wrapping technique.

Another wire work technique of creating a clasp is the Simple Hook and Eye Clasp

The clasp is created using simple wire manipulation and looping techniques that even beginners can follow.

This clasp is a familiar one...the Loop Hook and Eye Clasp

Similar to the hook and eye clasp this type of clasp is also created using wire manipulation and looping techniques but a few wire wrapping is used.

This beaded clasp is created with a combination of brick stitch for the ring and peyote for the "T" lock.

FREE Beaded Clasp Jewelry Making Tutorial

Clasps not only serve a way to end a jewelry piece, but attaching a unique clasp, it can also add texture and design to a jewelry piece. This basic tutorial will give you an idea how to create a clasp and add your own personal touch to it that will make your handcrafted piece totally handmade from start to finish.
Materials & Tools:
20ga x 6cm copper wire
Some seed beads
Round nose pliers
Flat nose pliers
Wire cutter
Step 1: Cut 6cm x 20ga copper wire. Make a circle of about 1.5cm in diameter using a mandrel.

Step 2: Make a loop at one end of the wire.

Step 3: Slide in some seed beads to fill up the circle. Take the other end of the wire and wrap it around the loop. This will be the loop where you will attach one end of your jewellery piece.

Step 4: Cut 5cm x 20ga wire. Make a loop at the middle of the wire by grasping the pliers slightly to the right of the centre with the round nose pliers. With your left hand, guide the left side of the wire up and over the top of the round nose pliers. Continue to bring the other side of the wire up and over the top of the round nose pliers. A loop is formed.

Step 5: String in some seed beads until you fill up the wire. Leave about 0.6cm wire at the end.

Step 6: Make a loop at the end of the wire. Do the same for the other side.

Step 7: Attach a jump ring onto the loop of the bar. This jump ring is where you will attach the other end of your jewelry piece. You're done!

Well, the tutorial has been published and we named it Daisy Beaded Bead Ring

This jewelry design has many possibilities. Once you learn how to weave a daisy-like beaded bead, you can create a necklace or a bracelet by linking them together.

You also have the option to use flat beads like this bracelet

Here are 2 simple steps how to link them up.

After creating several sets of daisy beaded bead, coming out from a bicone slide in several seed beads and then pass the thread into a bicone from another set of daisy beaded bead.

Do the same for the other thread and cross the thread into the same bicone.
Voila! You have linked 2 sets of daisy beaded bead. If you want to link several sets of daisy beaded bead just pass the thread thru the bicones until you reach the other side and ready to link another daisy beaded bead.

Now take a look. With the same process of linking, I decided to create a daisy beaded bead earring. Coming out from a bicone, I created a bail using the seed beads. The step will also be the same if you want to create a pendant.

Remember the Upside Down Earrings I made that I learned from Realistic Art video tutorial?

Well, I decided to add a coiling technique and created a totally new set of earrings. Honestly, I had fun making the earrings and decided to call it, "Upside Down Heart with a Twist"
Voila!

I used the wire heart to serve like a bail then coiled a 28ga wire and attached it to the earring. Coiling is a wire work technique often used when creating wire jewelry. Learning how to coil, you can create lots of variations to a single jewelry design.

In creating the coil I used a tool called the "Coiling Gizmo" It's a metal tool that comes with different gauges of rods that you clamp onto a table and use the rod to coil the wire.

If in case you don't have a coiling gizmo here are simple steps how to coil a wire.

Cut out a 28ga wire and wrap the wire onto a bigger gauge wire.

Then using your fingers wrap the 28ga wire onto the bigger wire. Just keep wrapping the wire, making sure to wrap with even tension to avoid lose or tight coils and/or spaces between the coils.

When you're done wrapping you can simply pull the coiled wire and do tons of ideas with it.

What's great about coiled wires is you can also create coiled beads.

FREE Beaded Wreath Pendant Beading Tutorial

Beaded wreath symbolizes Christmas, but it can also be used as pendants and charms and here’s one fun tutorial that will teach you how to. With pictoral step by step tutorial, even beginners can follow through. With this short tutorial, you will learn how to do right angle weaving technique and form a circle. You will also learn how to make a bail, a technique that you can use on other beaded jewelry designs.

Materials & Tools:
15 green colour 4mm Swarovski crystals
60 crystal colour 3mm Swarovski crystals
24 white colour 3mm Swarovski crystals
Nylon thread measuring 0.25 in dia.
2 Beading Needles size 12
Scissor
Pliers (optional)

Step 1: Cut approximately 1.5m (60 inches) of nylon thread. Leave about 2cm (0.80 inches) tails at both ends. Thread in 2 x 3mm crystals, 1 x 4mm green crystals and 1x 3mm crystal thru 1 one of needle and pull it to the centre of the nylon string.

Step 2: Cross the right thread into the last crystal.

Step 3: Continue to thread in 1 green crystal on the right thread and 1 clear crystal on the left thread. Cross both thread into 1 more clear crystals. Repeat these steps until you reach your desired length for the circle and you will end the last set by adding in 1 green crystal and 1 clear crystal on the right and left threads respectively.

Step 4: Then cross the threads into the 1st clear crystal from the other end. Pull the thread and you will see a circle is formed.

Step 5: Now pass the left thread thru 2 clear crystals and cross both threads thru the nearest green crystal then pull the thread. Thread in 2 clear crystals at the right thread and 1 at the left thread.

Step 6: Cross the right thread in the crystal from the left thread. Pull and tighten the threads. Pass one of the left threads from the right into the green crystal next to it and thread in 1 x 3mm clear crystal onto the thread the left thread and cross both threads into a 3mm crystal.

Step 7: Continue weaving until you form a the upper circle. Pass the threads to the other side to form the lower circle and cross both threads in a clear crystal.

Step 8: Do a right angle weave to form the bail. Thread in 1 x 3mm white crystals, each at both threads then cross both threads into 1 x 3mm white crystal. Continue to thread in 2 white crystals at both threads and cross them into 1 crystal.

Step 9: Then attach the beaded bail to the wreath. Weave back thru the bicones, tie a knot and cut off excess wire.

I like jewelry making tutorials that will make up a jewelry set. Yeah, I think it’s inexpensive, less work and less pattern or tutorial to learn but a lot can be made. Like this beading tutorial from XQDesigns.

Yup! This tutorial will teach you how to create a bracelet and then turn it into a ring :)

The design is consists of bicone crystals and seed beads which are then weaved into flower motif and maybe to some, it’s a snowflake. These flower or snowflake looking weave is then connected by seed beads and I can imagine, weaving just one flower or snowflake and creating a bail using the seed beads you can also turn it into an earring. Don’t you agree?

It’s just amazing how one artisan’s way of manipulating the wire to form a heart is different from one another, but still, they create the same results - a beautiful wire heart shape.

Yesterday I just learned how to make the upside down heart and created a cutesy little red wire heart earrings

Cute isn't it?
I used 20ga red coated copper wire and a metal barrel shape bead spacer. Usually other designs would require to wire wrap to keep the shape intact but you can also use beads.

Actually, I intend to use a metal bead to match the bead on my earring hooks, but the hole is too small for the 20ga wire to pass through. Good thing I have these metals spacers; they come in handy at times :)

I learned how to create the upside down heart from Ross Barbera.

MY PERSONAL TIPS ON MAKING THIS HEART
♥ Get a good grip on your flat nose pliers when you're starting to create the coil and rotating the pliers to form the heart because the wires tend to slide off.
♥ Do not try to take off the pliers after making a 30 or 60 degrees turn and then grip the wire again. I did this once and I ruined my first try. I experienced that keeping the pliers gripped onto the wire as you rotate the pliers will help you make a continuous smooth rotating motion to make a perfect form of the heart's corners.

Not everyone knows how to chain maille. I can consider this technique complicated. And you might think that it is just opening and closing jump rings and then linking them one by one, but no. To be able to create perfect chain maille jewelry you need to know how the jump rings, linking and aspect ratio works.

First things first, you need to use the right sizes of jump rings so your chain maille won't be too tight nor too loose. AR or Aspect Ratio is the relationship between WD (Wire Diameter) and ID (Inside Diameter). These 3 will be your key to creating a perfect chain maille weave. The earrings I created is based on Beadaholique's tutorial where you can see, the center is composed of seed beads. This is a much easier way to start a circular brick stitch and would be best to learn when you're still a beginner. With the tutorial, you'll learn how to create the base or center using ladder stitch and then weaving around this base/center seed beads using the brick stitch.

Here’s something cute for kids and teens to wear - a colorful Snowflakes Earrings! Suitable for beginners, learning simple wrapping and looping techniques you’ll be able to create your own variation of the snowflakes earrings. The earrings measures 2 inches in diameter, but cutting the wires longer you can also use it as a pendant.

With this quick tut let's try and make re-create this and then I'll show you how I did my version :)

Materials & Tools:
3 pcs 0.8mm (20ga) x 5cm (2 inches) wire
0.3mm (28ga) x 38cm (15 inches) wire
Some seed beads
Round nose pliers
Flat nose pliers
Wire cutter

Step 1: Prepare 3 pieces 20ga x 2 inches copper wire and cut 0.3mm (28ga) x 15 inches long. Pick one 20ga wire and wrap your 0.3mm wire 2 to 3 times at the center.

Step 2: Pick another 20ga wire and wrap again.

Step 3: Pick up the last 20ga wire and wrap again.

Step 4: Wrap for the 2nd time, securing all 3 20ga wires. When you're done wrapping, cut of excess wire. Adjust the wires to ensure the knot is place at the middle.

Step 5: Slide in some seed beads and create a loop with the excess wire.

Step 6: Repeat Step 5 on all 6 wires and you're done!

This is how I did mine :) I created a pendant, cutting the 20ga wires longer than 2 inches and used 2 different size of crystals. I also added a wire wrapped crystal at the top to serve as my bail and used a black leather necklace. My wire is also black coated.

You too can create your own version. By playing with different sizes of beads and wires and mixing colors you'll be able to add in your personal touch.
