Free Handy Start Menu 1.50 – A New Level of Comfort

Chemtable Software has released a new version of Free Handy Start Menu (1.50) intended to make the standard Start menu on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 more convenient and handy to use. The appearance of Handy Start Menu is basically the same as the standard Start menu, but it offers much more convenience due to a shorter program list and simplified running of applications. In its enhanced form, the list consists of merely a few categories (“Utilities”, “Office”, “Games” and so on), and all installed applications are grouped by these categories. Finding a program in such a list is easier than usual. In order to run the program, you simply need to click the folder with its name – Handy Start Menu automatically locates the shortcut and runs the application.

This new version of Handy Start Menu additionally allows hiding unnecessary elements and applications from the list of installed programs. Uninstalling programs now no longer requires you to open the Control Panel to seek the particular program in the list of installed applications. Now you can uninstall a program directly from the Start menu simply by pointing at an unnecessary element with your mouse and clicking the red cross that appears at the left of the application icon. In the same way, you can hide (without removing) some items to make the list of installed programs even shorter.

By popular request, Handy Start Menu 1.50 now features a way to import/export user categories (categories created manually). You can now transfer category settings from one computer to another and save time on manual sorting of applications by groups.

“We do our best to protect our users from doing needless actions while working with the Start menu. Such capabilities as hiding and removing and export/import greatly reduce the number steps to the final result,” emphasizes Konstantin Polyakov, a director of the project.

The List of Programs in Handy Start Menu Can Be Scaled Now

Chemtable Software has released the new version of Handy Start Menu 1.40 – a program replacing the standard Windows Start menu to the new advanced variant that make locating and running applications faster and easier.

The changes mostly apply to the extended version of Handy Start Menu. The program has some modifications and new capabilities that make using the Start menu even more comfortable.

In particular, the program now allows changing the font size in the list of installed programs. So users who thought the program list’s font is too small can now easily adjust it to any size in the extended version of the program.

Also, the extended version allows turning on or off all ways the program interacts with the Internet. And you can also separately switch sending/receiving category data and check for updates options.

Windows XP users installed Handy Start Menu now can configure it directly from the Start menu. Previously this option was only available to Windows Vista and Windows 7 users.

The new version of Handy Start Menu implements alphabetical sorting of menu elements, the icon for the “Graphics and design” group has been enhanced, and the ability to turn off the system tray icon has been included right in the context menu.

We had many complaints from our users about the “black rectangle” problem. Though we couldn’t replicate it at first, our programmers have now solved the problem.

Chemtable Software has released the new version of Handy Start Menu 1.30. This application rearranges the list of installed programs in the default Windows XP/Vista/7 Start menu making it far more convenient and simple to use. All installed programs are automatically sorted into a small number of groups (including Tools, Office, Graphics, Design, and so on). Finding a program in such a list is significantly easier. All unnecessary icons and shortcuts are hidden, so to run a program you simply need to click the folder with its name. You don't have to change your habits or get accustomed to a new interface or controls – the appearance of the new menu and the list of programs remains virtually the same.

By popular demand, we have placed the “Standard” folder containing such applications as Notepad, Paint, Calculator and others, into a separate group named “Standard programs”.

In addition, you can now prohibit Handy Start Menu from accessing the Internet; the group icons were updated; the gap between groups has been increased, and a new logo was added too.

Handy Start Menu includes an auto-update mechanism, so after initial installation it can independently update itself to newer versions, with your permission.

We continue improving Handy Start Menu program and proudly present a successive update of this utility that aims to make your work with the “Start” Menu more comfortable and handy. In the version 1.25 an option to disable the system tray icon of the program has been added, plus you can configure the program to work via a proxy-server to obtain fresh data about program categories from our server.

To deactivate the system tray icon, use the “Display the Handy Start Menu icon in the system tray” option in the program settings. Unselect this option and click the OK button to disable the icon near the system clock.

In order to change program settings, simply run it again by double-clicking the desktop shortcut or by selecting the program in the Start menu.

If you browse Internet via a proxy-server, an ability to synchronize data about your programs with our server and receive latest updates on grouping programs in the Start menu is also available to you. There is a special section in the program preferences where you can specify your proxy-server settings.

Handy Start Menu 1.20 with a New Automatic Update Mechanism

Chemtable Software has released a new version of Handy Start Menu 1.20, which is used to make it easier and faster to work with the Windows XP and Windows 7 menus. The program looks very much like the standard menu, but the list of programs is displayed in a whole new way. Since the programs are automatically sorted into groups, the list is considerably shorter making it much easier to find the program you are looking for in it. Thanks to the automatic program launch detection feature, now you can run a program with one click on the folder containing the program. You no longer need to open the folder to look for the necessary shortcut. Handy Start Menu will automatically find the necessary shortcut for you.

In addition, due to many requests from our users, you can drag program shortcuts from one category to another with the mouse, in the new version of Handy Start Menu. Just to select a program and drag and drop it onto the necessary category. This feature works both in the program list on the Start menu and in the category editor.

The new version of Handy Start Menu 1.20 includes the automatic update mechanism. The program is now upgraded from the current version to the next one in a couple of clicks. Custom Categories in Handy Start Menu 1.10

A new version of Handy Start Menu 1.10, the program to make the
standard Start menu much more convenient, handy and easy to use, has
been recently released. Enhancing of the Start menu is achieved thanks
to automatic allocation of installed programs to several categories
and the ability to run a program by clicking the folder with the
corresponding name. You don’t need to scroll through a long list
looking for a particular application and then searching the shortcut
to run it. Now you simply select a category and click the name of the
program in it.

In the new version of Handy Start Menu you can create your own
categories and distribute installed applications across them. On the
first run of Handy Start Menu it automatically relocates programs by
