Here's another model that you can use as a nice winter / Christmas decoration. I prefer folding this model from opaque paper. Using foil paper gives it an extra sparkle!

Yesterday I met up with Stephan Weber, who is a great advocator of expressive folding. At the end of the night we folded his bull, although I have to admit I couldn't replicate it again now. It's easy to see that Stephan has a lot of experience with folding, as he confidently and quickly makes the paper do exactly what he wants it to. With a bit of practice I hope I'll learn a bit of his shaping techniques, although I have to admit I still love having reference points.

By starting with a hexagon you can easily form an outer star. I think I'll teach this version of "Star Puff" in the upcoming instructional video.

British Origami Issue 258 (October 2009)

Almost a year ago Andrew Hudson and Jared Needle started an origami blog, which since then has featured a new diagram (almost) every week. This snowflake model was the contribution in their second week, and while I have followed them from the start, I have to admit I didn't fold this model until today. It's a really nice snowflake model, and I definitely recommend it. I might do a video on it in the future, especially because there are one or two steps that are quite hard to diagram in 2D. But for now, do explore the site, which provides lots of diagrams to quite new models.

This is probably as evil as you can get this cute owl model to look. The red eyes give it a somewhat demonic touch. I found the folding sequence to be pleasing, and like that it can be folded nicely even from small paper. Watch out, though, the model is completely open-backed - as if you'd cut the owl in half lengthwise. Now if that isn't a scary description... but Halloween's coming up, after all!

Guide on how to tile tessellations by Peter Budai

Someone contacted me asking how to tile the hydrangea, as seen on http://www.flickr.com/photos/dasssa/3019317031/
I decided to give it a go and managed to work out how this could be done. Admittedly, my first attempt failed, but the second one worked out. Later I found a comprehensive description of the technique written by Peter Budai. He calls this tiling "high density", and also gives instructions for low and middle density.
