Folding this model is just about the best activity for killing time on the airplane! This picture shows it with 10 stages (left) and 7 stages (right), just to show you how they compare.
Trivia: The creases are about 3mm apart in the orange, 10-stage version. In the green, 7-stage version the creases are about 5mm apart.

27th CDO Convention (5-8 December 2009, Verbania Pallanza)

I'd heard a couple of people say that the Italian origami conventions were some of the best, and that I should really go. Sure enough, the name of the Italian origami society, Centro Diffusione Origami, is promising enough. (I think you could translate it as "Centre for Spreading Origami"). And when I found out that I'd start working in a full time position shortly after this year's convention, I decided I just had to go. Did the convention live up to my expectations? In one word: yes. In a couple more words, here are my highlights:

This is surely the biggest modular project I've completed thus far. It needs 120 modules from a square, and 30 hinges from 1 by 4 strips. I decided to make one of the cubes orange, and the rest blue to give the model a focal point.
