The People Have Spoken!

It was a fun back and forth race that ended up with Jonathan Snook our undisputed people’s choice. For being crowned the champion Jonathan will get his Happy Webbie on a shirt and in the store, as well as several to distribute to all the people who voted for him. Well, actually over 1,000 people voted for him so maybe he could just buy each of them a beer?

Congratulations are also in order for Jared Spool and Bryan Veloso who fought to the end and had Jonathan on the ropes more than once. As a consolation prize we will do a limited run of their shirts as well. Way to go guys!

The People’s Choice Award

One of the toughest things about Happy Webbies is deciding who to honor next. With that in mind, we’ve decided to hold the first ever Happy Webbies People’s Choice Award. This way the people decide which Happy Webbie gets the next coveted step in webbiedom, their very own t-shirt.

Here’s how it will work: starting next Monday 7/27/09 we will track the total number of unique page views for each Happy Webbies detail page. (This is the page where you can download their desktop.) We will keep tracking the number of unique page views each Happy Webbie gets until midnight the following Sunday 8/2/09.

Whoever has the most unique page views at the end of the week will get their own Happy Webbies shirt produced, as well as ten shirts to share with friends and family. They can also send a few to the losers if they’re just that cold-hearted.

Relaunch & Welcome, Shaun Inman

New site! For our RSS subscribers, you should check this out in a browser because we just launched a hot new design. For you geeks (oh wait that’s all of you), under the hood we’ve rebuilt the entire site with our favorite CMS ExpressionEngine including the store, which uses our custom Checkout module. Holy e-commerce solution! We now have the store stocked with the original shirts as well as Series 2 & 3, which includes: Douglas Bowman, Dan Cederholm, Dave Shea, Dan Benjamin, Khoi Vinh, Andy Budd, Jeremy Keith, Andy Clarke and Jon Hicks.

To celebrate the relaunch we’ve added a new webbie. Welcome to Happy Webbies, Shaun Inman! Everyone knows Shaun from Mint his powerful statistics tracking software as well as his incredibly sick design and programming wizardry. He’s amazing at BOTH!? What a jerk, right? As you can see, we’re now switching to a single webbie release, instead of an entire series. Now we can release them more often and not have to wait for an entire crew. Talk to you soon!

Since Happy Webbies first hit the interweb, many aspiring Happy Webbies have asked the same question. What do I have to do to be a Happy Webbie? Until now there was only one answer. Be awesome and do awesome things on the interweb. But, in the spirit of the holidays, for a short time there is another way. Convince us and the people of the Happy Webbies world that you’re deserving. Introducing the All I Want for Xmas Happy Webbies contest. Post a comment here explaining why you deserve it more than anyone else. Feel free to include links to a video of you pleading your case, or to samples of your work. Whatever you think it takes to win.

Then, before Christmas, nGen Works and the Happy Webbies themselves will decide who gets this prestigious honor. Winners will be announced Christmas morning and prizes will be created and delivered in January. So what are you waiting for, this could be your big chance!

Welcome to Happy Webbies! Like a lot of people, we fell in love with the Happy Bunnies as soon as we saw them. Who can forget that cute furry rabbit saying “You’re ugly and that makes me sad” or “Hating you makes me all warm inside”? Instant classics. Then one day someone stole all our Happy Bunny magnets, and we said, “F that jerk, we’ll make our own.” So we did. We’ve been making fun of ourselves for months now and decided to share the fun.
