Music Review – Kambakkht Ishq

Bollywood and Harry Jerry have both had a similar phase in the recent past. Dumb and low profile. With the multiplex-producers issue resolved and my exams over, we both can get back to irritating people and pursuing our million dollar dreams. I’ll get back to blogging with a music review of the upcoming flick Kambakkht Ishq. The Akshay-Kareena starrer is one of the most anticipated flicks of 2009. Well almost every other movie now comes with this ‘anticipated’ tag. The film is a comedy. I hope it turns out to be one.

The soundtrack for Kambakkht Ishq has been composed by Anu Malik. Now that’s why I had to think twice before posting a review. Anyways the title track sounded so good in the promos that I had to go give it a try. Turns out that the title track wasn’t really composed by Anu Malik, it’s a RDB creation. So does Anu Malik’s music stand out? Let’s find out!

Om Mangalam

The soundtrack starts off with Om Mangalam which is song being aired on national TV with the promos. The song is pretty catchy and should get you humming the very first time you listen to it. Composed and written by RDB, a UK based Bhangra band, Om Mangalam is a smooth addictive track. A definite start.

Lakh Lakh

A commercial Bollywood masala flick and no Neeraj Shridhar? No way! Here comes Neeraj with Lakh Lakh. It’s a Hindi-Punjabi mix song, a typical Bollywood masala trend these days. An average song.

Bebo

At first I thought our very own Kareena would be singing this one. Alisha has sung this pathetic track that goes like this;

Bebo mein Bebo,
Dil mera lelo,
Dil dene ayi,
Le lo ji, le lo.

I bet even Saif wouldn’t be happy about a song like this. Thumbs down. The person who wrote this song needs to be banned or something. The lyrics are so pathetic.

Kambakkht Ishq

A title track makes or breaks a Bollywood flick. A lot of energy goes into making this one special track. So it’s not surprising why KK and Sunidhi Chauhan were chosen to for the job of playback singers for this track. A decent track. The lyrics are ordinary.

Kyun

A slow track follows Kambakkht Ishq. Shaan and Shreya Goshal team up for this attempted romantic number. A decent track but it kind of gets on your nerves in the middle of it. Kyun means ‘why’ and that’s what I want to ask Anu Malik. Kyun bhai kyun?

Remixes

Anu Malik seemed to have realized how badly he could have screwed up the soundtrack and went for the ultimate Bollywood soundtrack trick. Remixes. It’s like revising for your exam from your notes. Below average remixes would make you wanna throw that CD out of the window.

Welcome to Hollywood

Oh wait! The soundtrack isn’t over it. Salim-Sulaiman Merchant have composed a track which is buried below those stinking remixes. It’s a little over 2 minutes and I guess it’s just some sort of an intro track. One of the finest things in the soundtrack although nothing special about it.

Getting back to blogging, social media

It’s been a really long time since I last blogged about anything. The last time I wrote something or rather posted something, I showed off my ink stain as a result of voting for the General Elections 2009. On the reasons why I suddenly disappeared without posting any explanations, well I’ll blame it on my stupidity. I left my laptop, wireless router, Nokia E63 back home this time. Yes. On purpose.

Why? I’ll say I had exams and at the simple thought of staying offline would contribute in happier colorful result cards, I left the whole social media world on a sanyaas or banvaas whichever may seem correct. While result cards may still be far far away, the lack of connectivity has left me dumb, bored and separated from a whole lot of things.

On a positive note, I have thought of two brilliant ideas (that’s what I think) for the annual project for the final year at college and a couple of ventures to get into this summer. If everything goes well, I’m sure things would go green.

Also the winners of the t-shirt contest we held will be announced sometime in the last week of June. We’re not running away with the prizes folks. It’s just that we’re trying to integrate the whole thing with BarCamp Chandigarh which I’m planning to organize later this summer.

So a lot of things to look out for this summer including a whole lot of movies, events, conferences, dates, projects, summer training (oh yeah!) and blogging. Stay tuned and yes there’s a fresh design coming up on the blog. Yeah that’s coming soon too.

I know I haven’t been regular with blogging for the past couple of weeks. I’ll blame it on the exams at college, a family function and my shiny lazy ass. But I’m back now and I promise to finish up those posts lying in the drafts and also I’ll be regular from now on.

We’ve got to announce the winners for the Design a Tee contest we had a little while ago here. This is just to let you guys know that we didn’t run away with the prizes.

Also Bollywood has been disappointing a lot lately. With no new releases, it’s been a sad time for both multiplexes and reviewers like us. But then we’ve got the dashing IPL! IPL has been pretty normal this season. Of course the Vodafone ZooZoos managed to steal the show while teams like Shah Rukh’s Knight Riders were busy trying to figure out what they were doing in South Africa.

So what are you guys currently up to?

We’re hard at work on the new album. Don’t believe us? See for yourself here!

Super excited about it cause t’s shaping up well. We just completed a 3-city tour in March where we showcased a lot of the new material. The response was great and we’re thrilled about that.
We enter the studio in the first week of May with our co-producer Anupam Roy, from Grey & Saurian
(They will soon be managing us). As of now, our plans are to have the album out by end June 2009.

Our official website www.bhayanakmaut.com is up and running. For now, we’re asking people to visit the website and register for band updates and album pre-orders. The launch of the fully functional site will coincide with the album launch.

We’ve made a serious effort to reach out and be accessible to people on the Internet. So. People can now interact with us on facebook, twitter, youtube and myspace. Here are the links:

Who were your influences?

Our influences are wide and varied. For a full list visit our myspace page.

How did you come up with the band’s name?

Sriram (ex-vocalist) and Jaison (ex-bassist) came up with the name. I think they were influenced by the Ramsay Brothers film. The name stuck.

What do you think about the current rock music scene in India? How easy/hard has it been for you guys to get exposure for the band?

Ah….we wouldn’t like to comment on this. Let’s just say that we’re just happy that we get to play shows once in a while.

Tell us something about your new album?

Ah….. why would we want to do that?

What according to you is the USP of your band?

We don’t know. You should ask our friends and fans this question. We’d like to know too!

If you could create a fantasy band – what would be the line-up and why?

Tough question. Never thought of creating/being in a fantasy band. The musicians don’t really matter as long as there are super hot pole-dancers on stage while the band plays.

A message to your fans?

Thank you for the continuing support. It means a lot to us – we know that you’re expecting some really kick-ass material from us on the new album. We’re doing our best to make that happen.

Oracle all set to acquire Sun! Whoa!

So if IBM failed to acquire Sun, someone had to do the job. Looks like Oracle is going to buy Sun Microsystems for a total of $7.4 billion. The deal has been approved by Sun’s board of directors. With this acquisition, Oracle is set to become a major player in the cloud computing business giving a tough competition to rival IBM.

Everyone is speculating some graphic layoffs, some great new technology products etc. I’m concerned about how Oracle is going to treat MySQL. Since I’m a huge MySQL fan and a lot of my websites run on MySQL, I an curious to know how Oracle is planning to handle it.
