WALL STREET 2 REVIEW: IS GREED GOOD?

Managed to get to the cinema a day after its premiere.
The fact that I'm that I'm able to make time for that surprised even me.

This is one of my peak seasons...yeah, and yet making time for hangouts in between is completely Legal!

I don't agree with everything in this piece of writing, but you do make some very good points. Im very interested in this and I myself do alot of research as well. A MALAYSIAN DILEMMA

16th of September- Malaysians! have a clue what day is it? Most won't know and many more won't care. But it's OUR day, people- Selamat Hari Malaysia!

While listening to a song that goes 'when i was small and christmas tree was tall.... yada yada', i felt compelled to post an old piece 'A M'sian Dilemma' which i believed i wrote it when i'm 18 together with Letter to Papa [which got featured in Malaysian Today lately=)]. Of course, there is a reason if it yet to reach your papers; guess what? That's your question dear not mine *haha*

This year National Day’s theme is by the name of ‘Perpaduan Teras Kejayaan’. If we were to deduct that unity and integration are to be the core of Malaysian success, then we are far from being there. This is a fact. Undeniable. Recent years’ happenings and incidents of us Malaysians hurting each other with unsolicited remarks and actions makes us wonder are we sure we are ready to take on the world when we can’t even control and restraint ourselves. We talked about corridors. We talked about the world tallest tower and the largest airport. We go all out to send our astronaut to space regardless of endless debate on the project’s benefits to the people and we go on arguing whether science and mathematics should be in a global language or in our national language. You can say that democracy is alive. You can preach about unity in diversity. Yes. But Malaysians and their unresolved ignorance are very obvious as well; making us laughing stock over and over again. We as Malaysians should for once refrain joining our passing the buck game because it is not fun and it shows even how much more ignorant we are. This is a joint responsibility of all Malaysians. Let’s stop this cycle of stupidity. Let’s put an end to the Malaysian dilemma.

The prime hinder to unity is echoed by the layman in the streets- they want equal rights, probably even more rights or at least the rights enshrined in the constitution is respected. Where is our sense and balance? Race or ethnicity is meant to serve as a classification of human species to simplify recognition of one another through grouping of similar distinctive features- it is supposed to make us know each other better and get along well but instead we as the fools we always are, dictated that race is meant for division not understanding and that some race is meant to be superior in terms of status and capabilities than another. We can conclude either that is arrogance, stupidity or inferiority complex, we do not know. We only acknowledged it as a disease and must be eradicated at all cost. Classification purposes are for instance I have two cats one is of Siamese breed and one is of Peking breed. My neighbour would love to have one of them. Should the cats are not given name nor specified breed, it would be difficult for my neighbour to clarify which is his interest but since there is specific classification and specific qualities, my neighbour could just say that he wants the black Siamese cat instead of saying he want that cat. Hence, the only possible usage of race is this, so anything else would be mere nonsense and extremist in nature. Race is for the sake of joy of knowing each other not to be taken seriously. We are all the same. We are Malaysians. Allow me to quote a student’s statement to a newspaper, ‘I do not want to be treated as a Guest whose presence is tolerated but as a Son whose presence is welcomed.’

Culture on the contrary is just as often a source of our misunderstanding. As you were reading this, kindly imagine back to the days when our ancestors created our culture- lets just say they decided wearing red shirt is a good sign and thus everyone beginning to wear red coloured items and apparels until today- they have fun doing so and enjoy doing it as when everybody is wearing red, it is not only prosperous in feeling but a sense of community is felt. Then, in current times, a boy defied the tradition and decided to wear a black shirt in an annual dinner with his parents and brothers but ended up getting a nice whacking and scolding for more than an hour- let me ask you- is it that the boy is being rebelliously creative or that others are being increasingly stubborn? Culture and tradition at their very nucleus are meant to express the creativity, fun of creation and developing a special identity for a certain community but as times go by, these fun and peaceful cultures are treated as dead rules and regulations that are meant to be followed and not to be broken. What is the matter if we want to add black colour as a new part of our culture just like how our ancestors are playing with their creativity, imagination and innovation. While this might not meant to suggest no social norms should be followed as in certain times just as a gesture of respect, it certainly implies not following them is nothing wrong and does not deserve any violent opposition because it is just as what itself should be- mere joy and self- formed identity which is sometimes too illusionary that some people think they will be in deep trouble abandoning their self- created- just- for- fun image and identity.

All great faiths at their very basis are the same and they demonstrate with unparallel statements of truth yet under human manipulation and influences all good is twisted until ended up misleading and incomprehensible to the man in the street much less to the younger ones in school. With all these added accessories, special positions, holy ingredients, racial- based worship places’ architecture, human superstition and ancient beliefs that are even discouraged by the faiths themselves yet they as human want, they justified the reasons as well. Some might say these are just mere expressions of the faiths. Fine. But if these mere ‘expressions’ are taken seriously by people instead of concentrating on the pure teachings, then there is a need to educate the public. Faiths which human says advocate ways not of peace and love have something to do with these people’s hidden interest to utilize religions for the good of certain quarters and they play on emotions and rationale of the majority of ignorant folks around. If a certain faith is said to divide us in any ways – politically, economically or socially, then perhaps there is certain people instead of the faith that yearn to divide us. We shall not entertain these people for they tarnished the good name of a reputable religion of well- being.

We shall not engage in any speculations as correction of our own ignorance and selfishness is probably the only way forward and towards development. So should we keep this in mind every time we are trying to throw our Slurpee plastic cup out of the window, every time we looked down on another just because of a mere difference in colour, culture and creed, every time we try to pick up more junk food, every time we engage in the popular gossip habits and every time we try to hurt the most people we love the most. Far we have came- 51 years of freedom; never dreamt by the previous fallen fighters of our country, when all races unite under one roof, one shelter from the rain that seems unending- taking care of each other, share our food and share our hopes even when others are loudly shouting that we are failing but we hold on tight and we know the impossible can be done and it will be done incredibly because we have each other.

***Yup, a 365-day went by....the issue that dogged us in 2008 still dogged us in 2009. It's not the time to sob and complain, it's time to think and act- What have you done and what will you do? and as always- in the moments of our decisions our country is built***

Dear lovely children,

Do you have a clue how happy you could be when your pals remember your Birthday just when you think they will not? Extremely out- of- this- world-overwhelming-indescribable-undeniably-Happy of course! And that’s why i just want to express my BIG BIG THANK YOU to all of you young people- whether you are biologically young or amazingly young at heart; i care not because YOU ROCKS!

I must confess that these days might not be a ride in an ocean without waves for many of you and being so, it is even more surprising seeing those of you garnering your strength and will to be standing among thousands jam packed just to witness the PARADE of marching people first hand when you could have a good Sunday morning sleep, buying FLAGS to stick on cars when you have getting absorbed to think deep whether buying their petrol is still mortally possible, when our Prime Minister is delivering his SPEECH without minding it means your favourite television series are to be given a compulsory temporary pause and still going to school when you know singing my Birthday SONGS is the only thing you will be doing- i’m wondering just how sweet could YOU be?

Your textbooks are prone in vivid description of your forefathers who fought till their very last breath defending what they love with all their souls and you homosapiens actually memorized every word of it and yet you are going to tell me it makes no sense, right? First and foremost, i will not put the blame on you and join the finger pointing activity that you all enjoy doing so much and instead i have decided to share with you my genuine contemplation (as our National Day is today and Malaysia Day is on 16th next month) on what creature ‘Merdeka’ really is.

‘Merdeka’ is not about my birthday, it is about your birthday- the day when Ahmad, Ariel and Arun gulping our local teh tarik in a crowded mamak stall cheering for Lee Chong Wei in his attempt against Lin Dan, the moment when the adorable Petronas advertisement of three friends with the message ‘rambut sama hitam, hati lain- lain’ brought tears to your being as you recalled the watercolour days and when its schoolboy love video was being featured in Cannes simultaneously bagging the Gold, the minute when we look at another of different colour, creed and culture and speak to ourselves that they are family and smile with such sincerity that it is too obvious to be doubted, the second we believe our hearts could just take flight and we could live out all our dreams- no longer the ignorant savage who got pushed around and looked down as nothing more than some organisms living on trees.

Standing in the eyes of the world you are. No mount too high, no seas too wide, no stars too far- all these are made possible when you finally found yourself after being colonized by various military superpowers for nearly half a century and that’s mathematically speaking approximately 500 years. At last, you are freed, you are independent and you are united; so as to why some of you are so keen in being divided again is such a mystery to me because this issue should be history. This should not be a nation of accomplishments judging by your vast diversity as reflected by numerous other similar nations but the impossible has been done and it is done incredibly. Dear children, this is indeed the greatest story ever told. Happy Merdeka!

I believe anyone who just indulged in a rollercoaster of free delicacies from cultured milk of vitagen to walls strawberry 'bin chi-ling' after being totally immersed in an exhilarating and downright refreshing run of the lifetime- will have a sudden spark of inspiration between two diversely extreme conditions. Hiperbole you say? Embarking on a journey back home- where sitting in a silent bus while the drizzling rain outside complements the serenity- Eureka!!!- it just inspired a poem- so here is how it goes:

I'M OLYMPIC

McD at a mall
I pick a mag and see a form
The form call me to run
And my heart starts to take form
And says come lets run!

So i train for days
But not in time
My mind says let it be
For it commands lets just run!

So i run miles and miles
Only to see many smiles
Because when men run not to overtake
But to overcome
All men smiles and more is to come

This is not just another run
For fake medals and white papers
But this is a run
To test one's heart
The wise phrase 'Know Thyself'

*The run is held at Dataran Merdeka on 29 Jun 2008.

*Presented by the likes of McD, Olympic Council, Coke, Milo, Times Square, Genting, Spritzer and many other generous hosts.

*There are eight categories- all are compelled to run 7km in 70 min unless you are primary school which will be 3km no time limit instead.

*Runners will receive freebies such as T- shirt, Cap, McD redeemable coupon and your own number (i purposely did not reveal the four digits- i know what you are thinking.....)

The map on the right serves as the runners' guide with colour- coded precision for your category and the tee and cap on the left are the runners' equipments with brand- printed clarity.

Mascot Mania: Ronald McDonald's Five Minutes of Fame is only mortally possible when the Beijing Famous Five (Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni) is absent.

Certificate only for those who complete 7km in 70min (for those who thinks this is psycho; it is really logical); complete with Olympic Council President signature- one brilliant testimonial as Olympic isnt a every day thing=)

The current tv programme of Britain Got Talent reveals unmistakable talents just like the boy in the video- Andrew Johnston. Judged by a remarkable panel of judges ranging from Simon Cowell (Got Talent creator, American Idol commentor and Il Divo manager), Piers Morgan (America Got Talent judge) and Amanda Holden (Replacing Cheryl Cole); Andrew finished third as announced on 24th May 2008.

A simple viewing of this video (headphone recommended) narrates the story of a boy far from being a man; fighting against the internal conflict of external violence in school implications and the resultant inferiority complex. A story of a human though debated by Daily Mail; who is being pushed around by circumstances and came out victorious with unparallel talent- a voice of confidence.

Just like Aunt May of Spiderman franchise fame notably states, "He knows a hero when he sees one. Too few characters out there, flying around like that, saving old girls like me. And Lord knows, kids like Henry need a hero. Courageous, self-sacrificing people. Setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And years later, they'll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer."

It is undeniable that i have been on a familial mission to Johor- not the usual annual 'balik kampung at new year for angpaus quest' but rather i personally believe this to be more significant- my Ah Gong's 80th Birthday Celebration=)

The entire trip utilizing Malaysian functional highway has always been taking us about 3-hour which is acceptably comfortable with the likes of un-KL scenery to see and Hitz.fm to hear; of course the generality of this statement excludes the perspective of the one driving =p

Just as the journey cannot get any better, a Kancil being proud of its historical feat of kicking two Parameswara's hunting dogs into the river began to reminisce its days of glory.....

and traffic lights are fascinated by the countdown pop culture; hence incorporating countdown in a system of green, yellow and red lights

Pokok Kelapa/ Coconut Palm Tree

The Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is a member of the Family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only species in the genus Cocos, and is a large palm, growing to 30 m tall, with pinnate leaves 4-6 m long, pinnae 60-90 cm long; old leaves break away cleanly leaving the trunk smooth. Harriet Beecher Stowe praised him in the pages of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Novelist E. M. Forester compared him to Gandhi. Abraham Lincoln invoked his memory in a celebrated speech. In the houses of Parliament, Nelson Mandela recalled his tireless labors on behalf of the sons and daughters of Africa, calling Britain "the land of William Wilberforce—who dared to stand up to demand that the slaves in our country should be freed." The cat in residence at 10 Downing Street between 1973 and 1987 quickly earned a "Wilberforce-ian" reputation for catching mice, and as such was given the name Wilberforce and served under four prime ministers.

William Wilberforce (1759-1833) led the twenty-year fight to end the British slave trade, a victory now regarded as He finally succeeded in March 1807 and continued to fight for abolition until, days before his death in 1833, he saw the institution of slavery abolished throughout the British colonies. Not limiting himself to just abolitionist work, he dedicated his life to what he called his "two great objects:" abolishing slavery in the British Empire and what he called "the reformation of manners [society]." To this end, he advocated for child labor laws, campaigned for education of the blind and deaf, and founded organizations as diverse as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and the National Gallery (of Art). "Good causes," it has been said, "stuck to him like pins to a magnet."

Barbara Spooner met William Wilberforce on April 15, 1797 when she was 20 and he was 38. After only two weeks of courtship, they were married on May 30. The pair shared their lives for 36 years until Wilberforce's death in 1833 and produced six children. A great proponent of the anti-slavery cause, Barbara supported Wilberforce throughout his fight to abolish slavery.

A central figure in the abolitionist movement in Great Britain, Olaudah Equiano (c.1745–1797) wrote an eyewitness account of his life as a slave and of his work in the anti-slavery movement: The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa the African. Though born in what is now Nigeria, Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery in childhood and taken as a slave to the New World. As a slave to a captain in the Royal Navy, and later to a Quaker merchant, he eventually earned the price of his own freedom by careful trading and saving. Equiano, like Wilberforce, stood for more than just abolition. Equiano was an African, a slave, a sailor, an Englishman, an abolitionist, a Christian, a writer. He used his many titles to show how slavery brutalizes society as a whole.

He wrote: "Is not the slave trade entirely a war with the heart of man? Such a tendency has the slave trade to debauch men's minds and harden them to every feeling of humanity! For I will not suppose that the dealers in slaves are born worse than other men…it corrupts the milk of human kindness and turns it into gall. Surely this traffic cannot be good, which spreads like a pestilence and taints what it touches!"

The legacy of William Wilberforce is tied to his relationship with John Newton. John Newton, an ex-slave trader turned minister and abolitionist, wrote the lyrics for the hymn Amazing Grace and became Wilberforce's spiritual counselor. He set his young protégé on the path of service to humanity. It was only after Wilberforce underwent what he later described as his "great change" or embrace of Christianity, that he became a reformer. Newton knew this to be true, and invoking the deliverance language of the Old Testament Book of Esther, told Wilberforce that it was "for such a time as this" that he had been placed in a position as a powerful Member of Parliament to secure the abolition of the slave trade. It was in the House of Commons, Newton stated, that Wilberforce could best serve God.

William Pitt the Younger

Elected as Prime Minister at the age of 24, William Pitt the Younger (1759-1806) can be credited with encouraging Wilberforce to lead the abolitionist movement through political means. In addition to acting as his political ally, Pitt also maintained a close friendship with Wilberforce throughout most of their careers. A brief rift in their friendship occurred in 1793 when France declared war on England. At this point, Pitt fell under the abolitionist movement to focus on the war. Wilberforce, however, disagreed and thought it beneficial to attempt peace with France. The pair reconciled within a few months and remained friends until Pitt's death in 1806, just one year before the slave trade was abolished.
