DVD Review : Steel Trap

Steel Trap starts off with some great cinematography. Abandoned buildings, a lone balloon floating in a hallway. An old elevator opening and closing. All this cut with scenes from rocking new years party. However as the great cinematography continue the plot quickly dissolves into the standard House on Haunted Hill/SAW movie. You know what I am talking about. Group of people get invite (a txt message, how modern!) to another part of building. Strange clues. They start following clues. People wander off alone. People die. Cell phones don't work. More people die. Sigh..there was a good twist towards the end but nothing special. And a GPS unit that looked a lot like an iPod for some reason.

The acting was okay but a bit stale. As I said the cinematography was great and the sets were killer. Balloons, party favors, flickering lights they all added to the effects. However, the killer was not exactly fear inspiring, and I really hated the sound fx they used for all the action scenes. I mean is that being too picky? Leave us a comment if you think so. But I think this movie could of been really good. Better actors and a little more tension build up. It seems more like a video game in some places than a horror film. I mean really. Trapped in a building? No one can hear you call for them? Why not flood the floor with the fire hose? Set off the fire alarm with some matches? Electric fence? Throw a table through it. Dump water into it till it shorts. Throw a kink in the works. Consider those the David J. Neff horror tips of the day.

Be sure to check out the making of on this one. It's actually pretty damn good.

Overall I give Steel Trap a C-. Rent it if there nothing left to see on a dark scary night or if you live in a loft in a abandoned building.

It's that time again in Central Texas...

Flickering streetlamps line deserted streets. Massive structures collapse in rubble. Overturned
cars, military barricades, and boarded up windows abound. Floor after
floor of apocalyptic destruction so dreadful and morose it's hard to
believe. Remnants of a city that used to team with life, now decayed
and devastated by war, disease, and horror. This is not in
Baghdad or Chernobyl , its right here in Austin . Inside the new House of Torment you will find one of the largest theatrical set projects ever taken on in Central Texas .

"After
5 years we decided it was time for a new direction" says House of
Torment owner Daniel McCullough "so we started over from the ground up. We demolished the old attraction 100% and built in its place an apocalyptic city." Production
crews have been building the new attraction since January of this year
and the level of quality and attention to detail are impressive. Customers will be taken though city streets, into and out of ransacked stores and infected apartments,
and will even get to walk across toppled over buildings that have fallen into one another. Experiencing the new House of Torment is equivalent to taking a stroll through such sets as New York City in Cloverfield or I am Legend, and London in 28 weeks later.

Although
McCullough declined to comment about the monsters or "cause" of the
destruction in his newly built attraction one thing is certain, the
scariest city in town resides in an unassuming building next to
highland mall.

The House of Torment Haunted House is located at 523 Highland Mall
Blvd. across from Macy's. The grand opening is September 19th, 2008 and is open weekends thereafter from 7pm - 12am. Tickets are $14 - $20 and can be purchased online. Visit www.houseoftorment.com for more info.

I don't know how to feel. So I decided I need to talk to Shannon about my feelings.......

Who are you?

I'm Shannon Lark. Who are you?!

What does "The Living Dead Girls" Do?

The Living Dead Girlz are a zombie dance troupe. We do fully choreographed shows and always tell a story that revolves around a moral purpose.

We are about to go on the 2008 Living Dead Girlz Zombie Nation Tour, which you can find out more info about on livingdeadgirlz.com

How did you get involved in Fangoria?

The first time I got involved with Fangoria was when I performed with the Living Dead Girlz for their 2007 Conventions. I found out about the contest and decided to enter!

How did you win the contest?

I danced to Fergie's "London Bridges" with my chain saw after answering a couple questions. I also had to do a "glamor" pose and a "horror" pose for the judges.

Do you work with any Haunted Attractions?

The LDG just got booked for a Haunted House called the Callson Manor in Sacramento for October 11th. We will be performing 2 sets for the crowd waiting to get into the Manor!

http://www.hauntedforest.org/

What's your day job?

The Slaughter Shop at the Chainsaw Mafia.
Transworld 2009 Rumors

A anonymous little bat tipped us off to this : Talk on the HauntWorld.com forum has it that Transworld will indeed be
showing up in Vegas again in March of 2009 despite the prior
announcement of a January 2009 show in Chicago. There isn't anything to
substantiate the rumor except hearsay, but it sounds pretty realistic.
Lugosi? Lecter? St. John?

Lark Slaughters Spooksmodel Competition

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 30, 2008

CONTACT: Necromagickal

necromagickal@thechainsawmafia.com

www.thechainsawmafia.com

Lark Slaughters Spooksmodel Competition

Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors 2008

As twilight slowly withered away the light of a Los Angeles Sunday, life still whispered within the body of the 2008 Fangoria Weekend of Horrors. Fans daydreaming eager visions of macabre beauty, harvested into the main ballroom of the Los Angeles Convention Center to witness the first ever Fangoria Spooksmodel contest.

Upon the stage, beauty embodied within an octonary of female flesh to stand before judge and jury. Each of the eight contestants endeavored to prove worthiness of wearing the crown of Fangoria Spooksmodel. One by one each answered questions, modeled a pose or two, and performed a one minute routine before a jury consisting of Ken Foree, John Gulagar, and Tony Timpone. Lest we forget an eager audience of horror fanatics surrounded by female flesh on its best, and sometimes erotic, behavior!

The eight contestants performed to the best of their abilities, demonstrating that each were well deserved to grace the Fangoria stage. Yet with all challenges, only one may walk away victorious. That one winner, clothed in scarlet dress and wielding a chainsaw, was Shannon Lark.
