Rozanna (Roz) Purcell Celebrity Bainisteoir 2012

You’ve probably heard by now, but in case you haven’t, our very good friend Roz Purcell will be taking part in this year’s Celebrity Bainisteoir competition on RTE.

We would like to wish Roz every success with her new charges at Newtowncashel in Longford (there appears to have been some confusion about this as, seeing as Roz is from Clonmel, a lot of people presumed she was managing Cashel in Co. Tipperary.)

Roz opened the salon for us back in October 2011 and, thankfully, we’ve been going from strength to strength ever since. She’s also been a regular visitor to Haven Beauty Salon and Day Spa since we’ve opened. We’re always delighted to see her.

Other participants in this year’s show are Rozanna’s fellow model, Pippa O’Connor (Naomh Brid’s, Ballintra, Co. Donegal) who has been pitted against her husband Brian Ormond (St Mary’s, Rochfortbridge, Co. Westmeath) in the first round. X Factor star Mary Byrne will be in charge of St. Patrick’s, Tullow, Co. Carlow. Paddy Doherty of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Celebrity Big Brother fame will take charge of Scoil Uí Chonaill in Dublin (see pic)  and George Best’s son, Calum will guide Moy Davitts in Co. Mayo. Entertainer Richie Hayes will be looking after Tramore in Co. Waterford and Jessica Lawlor, girlfriend of Aston Villa and ex-Irish football international Stephen Ireland, will be overseeing Ballinora in Co. Cork (see pic below).

On a completely different topic, Mairead Farrell, what on earth were you doing with that hat on the first programme of the series?

You’ll find full official details of Celebrity Bainisteoir 2012 here once RTE have made the announcement. At time of writing this link was still leading to the 2011 programme. The programme will be aired from early September 2012 although most of the games will, in fact, have been played before this time (a few have already  been played). Newtowncashel’s first outing under Roz Purcell’s tutelage will be on September 2nd. Crucially, Newtowncashel will play at home against Jessica Lawlor’s Ballinora team from Cork.

Not to put too fine a point on it, the result of the first and second games are below, don’t look if you don’t want to know.

Newtowncashel were victorious in the first game against Jessica Lawlor’s Ballinora, so they move on to the Semi-Final where they will play Naomh Bríd in Donegal, managed by fellow model, Pippa O’Connor.

Calum Best’s Mayo Moy Davitt’s team defeated Paddy Doherty’s team from the capital and Pippa O’Connor won the battle of the spouses, defeating husband Brian Ormond. Mary Byrne’s Tullow team defeated Richie Hayes and his Tramore team in the battle of the singers.

Well done Roz and the Newtowncashel team.  In a twist in this year’s competition Jessica was supposed to join Roz with the Newtowncashel team for their semi-final outing. In true Ireland family fashion, however, Jessica was a no-show and Roz had to take on the task on her own.

Roz gelled her team very well and, in the absence of Jessica Lawlor who just about showed up for the semi-final match which was oddly glossed over in the programme, she helped the Newtowncashel team to a home draw against Pippa O’Connor’s Donegal based Naomh Bríd. Roz’s Longford charges won out in the end, this propels Team Cashel into the final.

On the other side of the draw Calum Best’s Mayo team defeated Mary Byrne’s Carlovians so the Final will be Newtowncashel v’s Moy Davitts.

Newtowncashel’s first two games on Celebrity Bainisteoir will be aired on October 7th and 21st. You can follow Newtowncashel on Twitter here.
