The HAVEN Valentine’s Fairy needs your help to share the love.

790 unduplicated clients used HAVEN services to victims of domestic violence last year alone.  On Valentine’s Day, you can help HAVEN share the love with women and children who are desperately seeking hope and a safe new beginning for their families. It is as easy as celebrating the healthy relationships in your life!

With a donation of $20, HAVEN will deliver a rose to a loved one (friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, child) at their home or office on Tuesday February 14, 2012 between 8am-4pm. The HAVEN Valentine’s Fairy will surprise them with a rose and a message thanking them for sharing the love and inspiring a gift to women and children in need.   The entire $20 donation will go directly to HAVEN services thanks to a generous donation from Country Flowers.

Attendees enjoy tastings from Bozeman’s finest caterers and wine from around the world.  Attendees will surely enjoy this year’s featured tasting of chocolate. Local businesses have donated a variety of exciting items for the silent auction and mystery balloon items. Mountain Arts Pottery and The Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe is open Mon-Sat 7 am-6 pm and located at 80795 Gallatin Road, 1.1 Mile south of Four Corners.

Drop and Trot is an annual 10k and 5k race through Bozeman to support HAVEN services. The event starts and ends at Lindley Park in Bozeman.  Drop and Trot offers a unique twist on the traditional race by allowing runners to complete a minute of pushups for time deduction. Each completed pushup is 10 seconds of the final run time.  Drop and Trot is the perfect late season run with a twist. Enjoy music, picnic food, friends, family, and a great local non-profit. All proceeds from the $25 registration fee benefit HAVEN.

Krystal provided the HAVEN staff with great information when she returned. HAVEN recently was funded through the Department of Justice to hire a Community Education Specialist in conjunction with the Sexual Assault Counseling Center and the MSU VOICE Center. One of the tasks of this position is to coordinate comprehensive trainings with local law enforcement.

 We’re looking forward to expanding the information from the conference in Butte to our local community. Stay tuned for information about our progress in coordinating a community response to family violence!

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:               Community Education Specialist
WORK STATUS:      Full-Time Salary, Exempt
SUPERVISORS:        Executive Director of HAVEN and SACC

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Education and Outreach:

• Conduct community outreach, advocacy meetings, and education throughout Gallatin County to coordinate the implementation of best practices in the prevention and intervention of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
• Provide educational trainings to: Members of the Gallatin Project Consortium (GPC); City of Bozeman; Montana State University Staff and Community; Law Enforcement; Prosecutors; Municipal, Justice, and District Court Staff; Gallatin County Staff; Community Members, Groups, and Agencies; and Victims and Victim Service Providers throughout Gallatin County
• Research, develop, and implement education curriculum, brochures, posters, training materials and other products required for community outreach and advocacy
  • Coordinate distribution of education materials to agencies in Gallatin County
• Refer victims to other services and community resources as appropriate
• Develop and monitor social-media and web-based outreach and develop measurement tools for determining effect on access to victims’ services, especially for underserved populations
• Research current data for presentations to community groups, schools, agencies (Laws, trends, counseling, resources)
• Annually review the level of service provided to underserved populations and focus efforts to close any gaps in service or disparities compared to the broader population and develop specific protocols for addressing gaps/disparities

 Interagency Networking:

• Communicate outreach work with and train law enforcement, judges, court personnel, jail personnel and other groups providing intervention services with an emphasis on best practices
• Collaborate with Gallatin County Victim Assistance Program Director, when appropriate
• Staff liaison to the Gallatin Project Team       .
• Assistant facilitator and coordinator to Domestic Violence Response Team
• Staff liaison to Sexual Assault Response Team
• Participate in local task forces, coalitions and teams as needed
• Assist the Gallatin Project Consortium (GPC) in indentifying revising and adopting policies, protocols, and procedures that enhance victim safety with an emphasis on underserved victims including victims over 50 and the GLBTQ population
• Maintain records of all interagency networking and meetings
• Sit on community committees  when appropriate

 Data Collection:

• Maintain accurate statistics and document and maintain permanent records of services and trainings provided
  • Input data into database on a weekly basis, assist in database maintenance, and participate in data analysis for GPC and grant reporting
• Submit monthly and quarterly reports on presentations, trainings, and all relevant statistics
• Maintain feedback and evaluation forms on trainings

Personnel:

• Assist with training and coordinating volunteers/interns/paraprofessionals

 Finance:

• Maintain proper financial records and receipts for all Community Education Specialist expenses
• Prepare proposed budget for education coordination grants
• Assist HAVEN and SACC Executive Director with grant applications for education coordination issues and reporting

 Other:

• Attend staff agency meetings of HAVEN and SACC  
• Attend HAVEN and SACC Board meetings as requested
• Coordinate prevention and awareness services
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of HAVEN and SACC

 QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven ability to effectively network with community resources
• Ability to make decisions under high stress conditions
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Comprehensive understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking issues
• Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience
• Experience with crisis intervention
• Experience with community outreach/presentations
• Experience coordinating community services
• Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities
• Proven leadership competencies in collaborative situations

 TRAINING:               

• Must attend domestic violence and sexual assault training programs including Office on Violence Against Women Trainings
• Must attend all training provided by the GPC on laws affecting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 4 or 5 hours. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

 RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Directors of HAVEN and SACC

 HOURS OF WORK:  As necessary to complete job responsibilities

 PROBATION PERIOD:  Six months

 SALARY:  $30,000-$34,320

 Autumn is a Montana native and has lived in Bozeman for five years. She graduated from Montana State University in 2010 with her B.A. in Health and Human Development, emphasis in Community Health & Promotion.  She recently joined HAVEN’s team, having worked with them in the past, both as an intern and a volunteer. Since moving to Bozeman, Autumn has been involved with various populations and non-profits, including HAVEN & the Big Sky Youth Empowerment Project.  She teaches yoga classes in the community, and enjoys finding a balance between working in both realms of health, healing and discovery.Outside of work, she embraces the full spectrum of adventure Bozeman offers. Snowboarding, mountain biking, wakeboarding, rafting, rock climbing and hiking with her reliable pup.
