It’s a story about a common man with an extra-ordinary investment experience.

Long time back in the year 1999 a small farmer who knew nothing about stock market himself and was a total layman and least bothered about any Stock Exchanges. But he had a friend who was involved in Equity Investment, in fact was a wise stock broker (rare species today).

One day the friend on a cup of tea advised him for investing into Equity for long term. The farmer being a novice and also not cash rich couldn’t understand that what he’s supposed to do?

The friend soon realizing it, advised him to just invest Rupees 5000 per quarter in Aban Loyd till as long as it’s possible. He asked him to assume it as lifelong a “lottery” and you should continue buying it every quarter for the decades to come.

This fellow guy didn’t understand anything much rather than the word “lottery”, neither he knew what exactly Aban Loyd is into, but he believed his friend and soon got fixed with a stock broker to do the needful.

Between the years 1999-2003, Aban was actually in a price range of Rs 5 and Rs 240 on the upper side. During 1999-2003 the Investor accumulated a lot of its shares on a quarterly basis when the prices stayed low between the mentioned above ranges. Year 2004 onwards it has moved one way up.

In 10 years total investment done is Rupees 2 lakhs. And can you guess his today’s portfolio Value??

He got somewhere around 10,000+ shares of Aban today and going by the current market price, it’s a whopping 80 lakhs!!!

Before the crash in 2008 the valuation was as much as around 4 crore’s!

Let’s not talk about the dividends he got all this years, because Aban didn’t give any, but then why should he care! He’s still investing the same amount every quarter. He said he never knew if this was going to happen. He didn’t use to keep price neither anything else in check; he was too focused and disciplined doing what he was asked too.

Even being rich today, he enjoys the same life style as earlier by taking care of his farming land and still invest 5k per quarter in Aban and is expected to do so whole his life.

Moral of the story:-

At times extra knowledge and doubts becomes our enemy, when there are too many questions going in the back of our mind, we intend to take wrong decisions.

We keep asking, finding, and searching the world inside out doing Google, doing Yahoo to know those things which are not required to know for simple and smart investments.

Sometimes being a layman actually works in a great way, something like this farmer guy. SIP is the “basic and dumbest way for Wealth creation”, now you also know that actually it is.

NO SIGN OF WEAKNESS. UPSIDE IN NIFTY LIKELY TO CONTINUE FURTHER, STAY ON LONG SIDE.

Note: Daily market outlook report is a daily course material published around 3am everyday only for the students of "Learn, Trade & Earn" Program so that they can understand the market well and do informed trading to make money with confidence not luck. Market Outlook for Tuesday, Feb 21^st 2012:-

v [Friday was a gap-up day followed by profit booking on high volume]

o On last Thursday, we have seen a successful testing in Nifty but the volume seems to be on higher side. Usually, a successful test (on low volume) tells you that the market is ready to rise immediately, whilst a higher volume test usually results in a temporary up-move, and will be subject to a re-test of the same price area again at a later time.

o On Friday, Nifty opened gap-up of almost 40-50 Points; it was trading higher in the range of 30 odd points for most of the day. Profit booking was observed before the market closure and finally Nifty closed 42points higher at 5564 levels.

o So far, we have not seen any weakness in the market except the very high volume day (volume was highest in last 6-9 months) on Friday. Usually market do not like high volume up-day and especially if the closing of the day is in the middle or at the lower end. One must watch Tuesday’s move to confirm what was happening in the high volume observed on last Friday.

v [Expect results from the high volume day which was seen on Friday] –

o Once a stock or Index moves up in price and reaches the upper trend line, and high volume appears with a wide spread up-day, you would expect results from the high volume, because there is an obvious effort to go up. That is, you would expect the price to go up and through the upper trend line. If you do not see any results on the high volume by the next day (or bar), then the opposite must be true: The high volume must have contained more selling than buying and will show the trend is still holding at that moment. If the high volume was buying, how can prices come off the next day?

o If Nifty fall at least 40-50pts on Tuesday and makes a lower top and lower bottom then we can make a conclusion that high volume seen on last Friday must have contained more selling than buying. We need to be careful after such move and check for trend reversal if any?

v [Let us check what option data says? After all expiry depends on the open interest of options]

o Nifty is trading at 5564 and if you look at the open interest (OI) at the strike price of 5500, you will find that Call option OI at 5500 has decreased by 13% and Put option OI has increased by 11%. It means smart money is likely to keep Nifty above 5500 levels.

o If you look at the open interest (OI) at the strike price of 5600, you will find that Call option OI at 5600 has decreased by just 7% and Put option OI has increased by 145%. Higher addition of Put option at 5600 strike price is a clear and loud sign that Nifty will be moving ahead of 5600.

o Even at 5700 levels we have seen descent addition of Put option, if this addition continues further then we will see Nifty even crossing 5700 by expiry. Once again, let me tell you that there is no sign of weakness seen on the chart so far so there is no question of short or change in trend for the time being.

Let us check what are the Signs of Weakness? While trading near top one must keep checking the SOW.

1. A buying climax [Not seen on Friday] – Buying climax is seen with very high volume on up-bars, when market is trading in new high ground. On Friday, volume seems to be on higher side but we are not trading on the new high ground hence buying climax is not likely now.

2. An up-thrust [This may be true, confirmation will come only on Tuesday] - If you have seen a distribution area directly behind you (before the breakout move above 5400, considering last 3-4 days, where we have seen a range bound move in Nifty, it may be a distribution), and just after that if you see an up-thrust, this becomes a very strong indication of weakness. A sharp move down the next day (on Tuesday) will confirm the weakness. Up-thrust kind of moves are seen when the prices will go up during the day (or bar) on a wide spread and come back to close on the low of the day on high volume. All up-thrusts are usually signs of weakness as long as you have an up move behind you or signs of distribution in the background.

3. A no-demand day (or bar) [Not seen on Friday] - In any move that is liable to fail, you will see either a ‘no demand up-day’ (low volume) or an excessively high volume up-day, with no results (prices come off the next day, or an up-thrust appears). Friday was not a day of no-demand bar.

4. Narrow spread, on an up-day [This may be true, confirmation will come only on Tuesday] – Such moves are seen into new high ground, on very high volume. High volume present on an up-day (or bar), whilst the market falls on the next day (or bar), and fails to make higher prices. Friday we have seen a spread on high volume, if it was narrow or wide spread will be confirmed only on Tuesday if Nifty falls and makes lower top and lower bottom formation at the same time closing on low.

We must listen to the chart & act accordingly

v Nifty closes 50pts DOWN on Tuesday – Such kind of move is the first hint/indication that we are close to trend reversal. On Friday we have seen one of the highest volumes in last 6-9 months and if the very next day is down, it clearly shows that high volume might have contained more selling than buying and market is in for trend reversal.

v Nifty closes FLAT (+/- 20pts) on Tuesday – We are just 3 days away from expiry and a range bound flat move can’t be ruled out which will help option writers. We have to observe the volume during these flat moves. Any high volume especially higher than last Friday’s volume is a bearish sign. Low volume flat move is a sign of strength.

v Nifty closes 50pts UP on Tuesday – We are expecting upside move to continue from here and expiry is likely to be around Nifty 5700 levels. You will find lots of negative news like Greece default, higher crude prices etc but such news impacts the markets for short term, they never change the inherent trend which is designed /planned by the smart money.

If you are interested in making sense out of the stock market, then you have come to the right place. I would like to take a moment and explain a few things that might help new traders gain a better insight into what trading is all about. Every valid market approach needs three elements to be effective.

#1. The first element is the approach itself, sometimes called the system.

There are thousands of them for sale, some work and others do not. Regardless of the profitability of the approach, they all attempt to guide you, by various means, into selecting a trade. There are numerous books, seminars, software packages and training manuals devoted to teaching people a "valid market approach." Some of these approaches are based on fundamental analysis (price earnings, balance sheets, economic conditions, etc.), while others are based on technical analysis (a manipulation of price, volume and open interest to generate various "studies" such as moving averages, oscillators and trend fold indicators). Most people use fundamental analysis while fewer use technical analysis.

#2. The second element is the money management aspect of the trading system.

This area has come a long way over recent years with a current emphasis on the importance of position sizing. The important point of money management is that it must be tailored to the type of approach you are using, to insure you achieve the anticipated results. You can have a valid approach and apply poor money management and lose money. Or, you can have a poor approach, and apply good money management and still stand a chance to make money. Money management will turn a losing trader into a winning trader, it is very powerful!

#3. The third element is the belief system that is needed to trade the system you are using.

Almost all market approaches neglect this important area. Just think of the racecar driver that really believed he was going to crash. What chances would he have of success? How about if he had the belief that it was okay to drink alcohol the day before his race, or that he didn't need to keep himself in top physical condition. A professional racecar driver, or athlete, or doctor or any professional for that matter, needs to have the proper belief system in place in order to be successful.

Can you imagine a doctor who held the belief that medical school taught him everything he needed to know and that further study was not important. Would you want to go to that doctor? When the right belief system is in place, the subject has a much better chance of success. The same is true for your market approach. Each approach needs its own, unique set of beliefs in order to be successful in that approach.

Again, the three important elements in a trading approach are: The system itself, the money management aspect and the psychological belief system. If you have all three elements in place, and working properly together, what does it give you? It gives you the ability to align the probabilities in your favor.

· This is not a typical technical analysis training session where basic or advance courses are taught and students are asked to practice on the real trading which hardly works well. Conventional method of teaching is actually passive in nature. You learn all the lesson and practice after that. You appear for the exam after mugging up whole book and score a good marks but fail in real life

Today WE HAVE SEEN “TESTING” IN THE MARKET. IT is a loud and clear indication to expect higher prices immediately.

Market Outlook for Friday, Feb 17^th 2012:-

þ [We have seen a “testing” today] After a sharp rally of 115pts in Nifty on Wednesday, it was a time for Nifty to check the selling pressure by doing something called “testing”. On Thursday, we have seen Nifty falling down by 40-45pts during most of the day only to recover and close just 10pts down. Bringing markets down during the early trade and recovery before closing is usually done to check the supply present in the system. Testing is a sign of strength and clearly indicates that market will move higher on the next day itself.

þ [Let us understand the 7 days of sideways move followed by break-out in Nifty above 5400 levels on Wednesday] - On Wednesday, we have observe high volume accompanying wide spreads up, this shows that the professional money was prepared to absorb any selling from those locked-in traders who decided to sell – this is known as absorption volume. In this situation, the smart money anticipates higher prices and they are bullish. They know that a breakout above an old trading area of Nifty 5428 will create a new wave of buying. In addition, those traders who have shorted the market will now be forced to cover their poor positions by buying as well. Furthermore, traders that are looking for breakouts will buy. Finally, all those traders not in the market may feel they are missing out and will be encouraged to start buying. This all adds to the professional bullish positions. If you see any testing or down-bars on low volume after this event, it is a very strong buy signal. And what we have seen on Thursday is in fact a testing but volume seems to be on the little higher side.

þ [Smart Money use to check the selling pressure by lock-in traders before making any up move?] The professional traders need to ensure that the supply has been completely removed before trying to trade up his holding. The best way to find out is to rapidly mark the prices down which was done today. This challenges any bears around to come out into the open and show their hand. The amount of volume (activity) of trading as the market is marked down will tell the smart money how much selling is going on there. Low volume, or low trading activity, shows there is little selling on the mark down. Any down-move dipping into an area of previous selling (previous high volume level), which then regains to close on, or near the high, on lower volume, is a loud and clear indication to expect higher prices immediately. This is a successful test.

We must listen to the chart & act accordingly

þ Nifty closes 50pts DOWN on Friday – Any testing that does not respond immediately with higher prices, or certainly during the next day or so, can be considered an indication of weakness. If it were a true sign of strength, the specialists would have stepped in and would be buying the market – the result of this professional support would be the beginnings of an upward trending market. In case if Nifty falls down by 50 or more odd points and closes on the low with higher volume, it is a sign of weakness. This shows that the testing we have seen on Thursday was a failed testing due to the high volume where supply (selling pressure) is still present.

þ Nifty closes FLAT (+/- 20pts) on Friday – We are not expecting any flat move on Friday. In case if Nifty remain flat, it means another few days of sideways consolidation is needed before further upside. The sideways or flat move will remove the selling pressure present in the system. Once the selling pressure is reduced Nifty will start moving up again. Very high volume flat up move (10-20pts of positive closure of the day) is not a good signal and it shows the sign of weakness. We must ask a question, if there was very high volume then why market was not able to move up? It means there must be selling or distribution happening during the narrow spread.

þ Nifty closes 50pts UP on Friday – We are expecting a gap-up opening of 20-30pts followed by further upside close to 5600 levels. Market is likely to be marked up on Friday to gain free publicity of media and lure market participant sitting on the sideline. Newspaper & TV reporters have to create a reason for the up move. Poor investors or traders will jump into the market on Tuesday (as Monday is a holiday) and start buying aggressively as if they are missing the bus. Due to long weekend ahead we may expect some profit booking from weak hands.

þ [What an excellent breakout today!] On Wednesday, Nifty opened gap-up of almost 50pts and continued up move for the whole day, finally closing at 5532 which is 115pts up for the day. After 7 days of sideways consolidation today was the breakout move above 5428 and well as we expected it was a good breakout on the upside. What next? On Thursday we can have either up day or down day. We may see a testing kind of move (like nifty falling down by 30pts, remain there only to recover before closing). The kind of move Nifty does tomorrow will decide if this rally is likely to continue further or not?

þ [Fear of missing out?] If you understand the human psychology you can become a smart trader. Majority of the traders are controlled by TWO FEARS: The fear of missing out and the fear of losses. Now, you tell me, which out of the two fears is active as on today? I would say, fear of missing out. Most of the bearish traders are already cleaned. There are many traders who are sitting on the sideline and waiting to enter this market on correction. They are feeling left out and these guys will be the one who will enter at the top and become the victim of distribution phase by smart money or they will be the one who will buy from lock in traders at every resistance levels.

þ [Market always takes the path of least resistance] Since the selling was decreased on any down-move during the last 7 days of consolidation (the fact is we have seen higher bottom formation) phase, the market was no doubt likely to go up which we have seen today (no selling pressure). It takes an increase of buying or a high volume, on up-days (or bars) to force the market up. Nifty will not find difficulties in moving up till the psychological level of 5600 but above it and especially in the range of 5600-5700 will be a very tough zone to crack. Election result or Budget announcements may help.

We must listen to the chart & act accordingly

þ Nifty closes 50pts DOWN on Thursday – Breakout day supported by huge volume is a sign of strength but we need not forget that “True weakness always appears on an up-bar, and true strength always appears on a down-bar”. Hence, if we see a down bar tomorrow and closing on the lows and if the volume is high then we can draw just one conclusion that huge volume seen on Wednesday must have contained more selling than buying. This is the sign of weakness and the short term trend may reverse from here.

þ Nifty closes FLAT (+/- 20pts) on Thursday – We may likely to see a dull or flat day tomorrow. Such kind of move is common after sharp run-up. Most important thing to watch here is the volume. If there is excessive volume (Volume greater than a day before) then it must be a selling which is sign of weakness, if there is low volume then it is just a test of supply hence a sign of strength.

þ Nifty closes 50pts UP on Thursday – After a major breakout move above 5400 with high volume, nifty closed the day at 5532. We may see 20-30pts of weakness during early trade (which is common after such kind of 115pts run-up in single day) but by end of the day nifty must close higher. This will become a kind of testing or shake-out which will take Nifty close to 5600 levels on Friday. Option data clearly shows that we are likely to see Nifty close to 5600 level in 1-2 days time.

Remember that all markets are designed for you to lose money in. This is why the markets oscillate up and down within any trend constantly putting you under some sort of pressure. Markets by their very nature have to work in a sinister way to stay in business, otherwise everybody would be winners. This road will be long, the terrain will be tough, and you will suffer pain. Trading is not glamorous! Learning to read the market as a professional in your own right will place you in the top 5% of people who trade or invest in the stock market.

This is the dream of many. The problem is that it is very easy to be wiped-out in the learning process. Some lucky people have the skills to make money from the stock market and keep it, knowing very little. This is because they are skilled at money management and taking risks. They know how to handle a risk - bookmakers generally make good traders because they are skilled and practiced at risk-taking and know how to handle it.

The stock market by its very nature is designed for you to lose money. The rallies and reactions within any trend ensure this process is at work constantly. It is created automatically. The market behaves this way because it has to! The weak have to perish so that the strong can survive. Professional traders are fully aware of weaknesses in traders under stress and will capitalize on this at every opportunity.

To overcome these problems you need to develop a disciplined trading system for yourself. A system strictly followed avoids emotion because like the trained soldier you have already done all the 'thinking' before the problems arrive. This should then force you to act correctly while under trading stress. Most traders will go into the market with great optimism and fail to have any plan because it does not enter their mind that they may be wrong. If they thought that, they would not be in the market in the first place. What do you intend to do if you are wrong? You are going to create problems for yourself unless you have a clear plan in mind. Best of all write it all down before you trade! It's not wrong to be wrong, but it is wrong not to recognize it immediately and to then cover your position.

Never trade unless you have plan ready and waiting to be activated without hesitation. This is a vital part of a good trading system. All this preparation is difficult because you are fighting the urge to trade, before you miss out on everything. If you plan for a failure before each trade, you will be surprised how successful you can become. As you have been reading this page you have probably been nodding your head with agreement and perhaps thinking about your own refinements, but you will still go out and trade on impulse! It is like reading a health magazine, yes you agree with everything they are writing about and at that moment you are determined to get your eating act together, but at the end of the day you have simply carried on as usual.

Market timing is the most important expertise you must master to become a successful trader. This is where the majority of traders fall by the wayside. Buy too early and you are squeezed out on any temporary falls. Sell short too early and you are squeezed out on any up moves, even if, after a few days or so, you are proved correct in your analysis. Understanding what the volume is telling you; recognizing testing, stopping volume, up-thrusts, or no demand, will get your timing surprisingly accurate.

When you do decide to short the market do so only on an up-day/bar if possible [see no demand, up-thrusts, ultra-high volume up bar with next bar level or down], and only if there are signs of weakness in background such as lower tops, down trend, high volume on up day/bar with no corresponding up move following, all signs of weakness. To be a good trader is not easy!

Once you master these two principle you are on the way to create huge wealth

Principle One

The herd will panic after substantial falls and start to sell usually on bad news. Then ask yourself. Is the Smart money prepared to absorb the panic selling at these price levels? If they are, then this is a strong sign of strength.

Principle Two

The herd will at some time after substantial rises as seen in a bull market become annoyed at missing out on the up-move and will rush in and buy, usually on 'good news'. This includes traders that already have long positions, and want more. Then ask yourself. Is the Smart money selling into this buying? If so, then this is a strong sign of weakness.

Does this mean that the dice are always loaded against you when you enter the market ? Are you destined always to be manipulated?

Well, yes and no !

A professional trader isolates himself from the herd and has trained himself to become a predator rather than a victim. He understands and recognizes principles that drive the markets and refuses to be misleading by good or bad news, tips, advice, brokers’ advice and well meaning friends. When the market is being shaken-out on bad news he is in their buying. When the Herd is buying and the news is good he is looking to sell.You need to get expertise in market timing which is 100% a MUST thing for any successful trader. It's anti-trend, it's contra trend, its pattern recognition and price exhaustion are something you need to understand well before trading actively.

#1. The first element is the approach itself, sometimes called the system.

#2. The second element is the money management aspect of the trading system.

#3. The third element is the belief system that is needed to trade the system you are using.

There is an old saying in business: "Fail to plan and you plan to fail." It may sound glib, but those who are serious about being successful, including traders, should follow these eight words as if they were written in stone. Ask any trader who makes money on a consistent basis and they will tell you, "You have two choices: you can either methodically follow a written plan, or fail."

Trader should write his or her own plan, taking into account personal trading styles and goals. There is no way to guarantee that a trade will make money. Professional traders know before they enter a trade that the odds are in their favor or they wouldn't be there. By letting his or her profits ride and cutting losses short, a trader may lose some battles, but he or she will win the war. Most traders and investors do the opposite, which is why they never make money.

IPO Update: MCX India - Invest or Avoid

India's No.1 commodity exchange is coming out with its IPO. The Initial Public Offer will be open from 22nd February and the window will be open till 24th February. The Size of the issue is somewhere between Rs 650 -Rs 750 Cr.

MCX, the largest commodity bourse in the country, has more than 70 per cent share in an annual estimated turnover Rs 177 lakh crore for the entire commodity derivatives market. Globally, MCX is the fifth largest commodity exchange, while it figures among the top two positions in gold and silver segments. It would be the first exchange in India to go public, putting the country at par with other markets like the US, UK, Japan, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

MCX had recorded Rs 447.5 crore of total income and Rs 176.2 crore of net profit in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011. In the current fiscal, the company has posted net profit of Rs 218 crore and total income of Rs 474 crore for the nine-month period ended December 31, 2011.

The Promoter of the company includes Fiancial Technologies, and investors like State Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, GLG Financials Fund and Alexandra Mauritius Ltd

Wed, Feb 15th (Market Outlook) : No more sideways move, Nifty is all set to move up higher.

Market Outlook for Wednesday, Feb 15^th 2012:-

þ [Today’s Move] On Tuesday we have seen nifty trading in a narrow range of 50 odd points. Today was probably the last day of the ascending triangle formation which was discussed yesterday. We are observing higher bottom formation since last few days which is a sign of strength. Nifty closes 25pts higher today with increasing volume hence today’s up move was supported by volume.

þ [Market Dynamics] After a rapid movement from one price level (call it Nifty 4800) to another price level (call it Nifty 5400) is not by chance – it is designed for you to lose money. You can be suddenly locked-into a poor trading position, or locked out of a potentially good trade by one or two days (or bars) of rapid price movement: The Index or stock usually then rests and starts to go sideways. If you have been locked-into a poor trade, you may regain hope, and so will not cover a potentially dangerous position. The next sudden move against you does exactly the same thing, so the process continues. Conversely, if you are not in the market and have been hesitating or waiting to trade, sudden up moves will catch you unawares; you are then reluctant to buy into a market where, yesterday, you could have bought cheaper. Eventually a price is reached where you cannot stand the increases in prices anymore and you buy, usually at the top!

þ [Sideways move with testing on low volume is a sign of strength] Markets will frequently have to rest and go sideways after any high volume up-days, because the selling has to disappear before any further up-moves can take place. Remember, selling is resistance to higher prices! The best way for professional traders to find out if the selling has disappeared is to ‘test’ the market – that is, to drive the market down during the day (or other time frame) to flush out any sellers. If the activity and the volume are low on any drive down in price, the professional traders will immediately know that the selling has dried-up. This now becomes a very strong buy signal for them.

þ [We have seen successful testing] Any down-move dipping into an area of previous selling (previous high volume level), which then regains to close on, or near the high, on lower volume, is a loud and clear indication to expect higher prices immediately. This is a successful test. Lower volume shows that the amount of trading that took place on the mark-down was reduced, that now there is little selling, when previously there had been selling.

We must listen to the chart & act accordingly

þ Nifty closes 50pts down on Wednesday – Nifty is not likely to make this move tomorrow. In case if this really happened, it only mean that selling is still present in the system and we may see few more days of sideways move & consolidation. As long as we trade above Nifty 5323 levels, we are may not see any meaningful correction.

þ Nifty closes flat (+/- 20pts) on Wednesday – We may or may not expect a flat day tomorrow with narrow trading range of 30-50pts. Once again, if the market closes flat on low volume, it is bullish sign and if the market closes flat on high volume it is a bearish sign.

þ Nifty closes 50pts up on Wednesday – This is what we are expecting based on the pattern developed on the chart today. We may see a flat or gap-up opening above Nifty 5428 level (high made during this consolidation) followed by slow and steady rise. In this case one can stay long for the target of Nifty 5500 first. Nifty may move up by 80-90pts tomorrow to prove that we are heading for Nifty 5600 levels.

Market Outlook for Tuesday, Feb 14^th 2012:-

þ On Monday, Nifty was trading in the range of just 70 odd points. During early part of the day, it was trading down in the –ve zone only to recover during second half of the day and closed flat. If you look at the Friday’s move and Monday’s move together, you will find that Nifty has actually done a successful shake-out or testing on low volume (“U” shape formation, i.e., bringing down the market to check the selling pressure followed by recovery and closing flat to +ve) which is a sign of strength and an indication that upside will continue further.

þ You may also observe that, during last 4 days volumes are in decline. Any decline in the volume while the markets are trading sideways is a sign of strength. We have also seen the formation of ascending triangle. The ascending triangle seen on the chart above is a bullish formation that usually forms during an uptrend as a continuation pattern. Regardless of where these patterns are formed (at the top or bottom of the market), ascending triangles are bullish patterns that indicate accumulation. As the pattern develops, volume usually contracts. When the upside breakout occurs, there should be an expansion of volume to confirm the breakout.

þ A basic tenet of technical analysis is that resistance turns into support and vice versa. When the horizontal resistance line of the ascending triangle is broken, it turns into support. Sometimes there will be a return to this support level before the move begins in earnest. Once the breakout has occurred, the price projection is found by measuring the widest distance of the pattern and applying it to the resistance breakout.

þ On the ascending triangle, the horizontal line represents overhead supply that prevents the security from moving past a certain level. It is as if a large sell order has been placed at this level and it is taking a number of days or weeks to execute, thus preventing the price from rising further. Even though the price cannot rise past this level, the reaction lows continue to rise. It is these higher lows that indicate increased buying pressure and give the ascending triangle its bullish bias.

We must listen to the chart & act accordingly

þ Nifty closes 50pts down on Tuesday – Nifty closing down below the trading range of 5400-5320 is a risk for bulls. So far we have seen higher bottom formation hence any move down & close below Nifty 5320 will be a bearish sign for the market and one must be ready to reverse their long position or initiate their short position in Nifty.

þ Nifty closes flat (+/- 20pts) on Tuesday – We can expect a flat day tomorrow with narrow trading range of 30-50pts, this probably be the last day of consolidation before breakout on the upside. Once again, if the market closes flat on low volume, it is bullish sign and if the market closes flat on high volume it is a bearish sign.

þ Nifty closes 50pts up on Tuesday – This is what we are expecting based on the pattern developed on the chart. In this case one can stay long for the target of Nifty 5500 first. In fact after breakout above 5400 Nifty may move by 80-90pts at least to prove that we are heading for Nifty 5600, the hurdle which will be crossed based on UP election outcome/Budget etc.

Friday’s move was one last dip down to remove the remaining latent supply.

þ On Thursday we have seen first time Nifty closing above 5400, after 3 days of consolidation between Nifty 5320 – 5400 range. On Friday, we have seen sell off in Nifty felling down by 70pts only to recover later and closes 30pts down. We can call it an Up-thrust which is a sign of weakness or we can call it a shake-out or testing which is a sign of strength. Nifty closing on Monday will only confirm if the move seen on Thursday was an up-thrust or testing.

þ A testing (bringing down the market during the day, only to recover and close flat or in the middle of the bar) of supply was needed before any up move. The testing serves a number of purposes – it’s designed to check for floating supply, mislead the market, and catch stops on the long side (i.e. to relieve traders of stock who are correctly buying into the move). At the point of the test, most of the supply had been removed and the market is almost free to move upwards – it just required one last dip down to remove the remaining latent supply.

þ If prices are dropping on volume that is less than the previous two bars (or candles), especially if spreads are narrow, with the price closing in the middle or high of the bar, this indicates that there is ‘no selling pressure’.

We must listen to the chart & act accordingly

þ Nifty closes 50pts down on Monday – This is not a good sign for the bulls. After 30pts fall on Friday if there is further fall on Monday and in case if Nifty closes below 5320-5300 levels, it is a sign of correction in short term this may drag Nifty down to 5200 levels. This will confirm that the move seen on last Friday was up-thrusts not test. Up-thrust usually appear on market tops. That is after a rally. Specialists know the market is weak; the price will have been marked up during the day to close at best in the middle.

þ Nifty closes flat (+/- 20pts) on Monday – We are not expecting this move, but in case if Nifty remain flat for the day in the range of 20-30pts then it is a risk for bulls as well as bears. We need to see the volume, any high volume flat move is a bearish sign at the same time low volume flat move is a bullish sign.

þ Nifty closes 50pts up on Monday – This move will confirm that, what we have seen on Friday on low volume was a successful testing in the market to remove the supply (selling). In fact, Nifty should do a gap-up on Monday followed by further upside. Nifty trading above 200 DMA which is around 5200 levels confirms that we are in the bull market hence further upside is most likely. We may see testing or shake-out at every important level just like the way we have seen testing at 4800, 5000, 5200 etc.

Let us check what are the Signs of Weakness?

1. A buying climax [Not seen on Friday] – Buying climax is seen with very high volume on up-bars, when market is trading in new high ground. On Friday, volume seems to be on lower side and bar closes down hence this can’t be a buying climax.

2. An up-thrust [This may be true, confirmation will come only on Monday] - If you have seen a distribution area directly behind you (considering last 3-4 days, we have seen a range bound move in Nifty, it may be a distribution), and just after that if you see an up-thrust, this becomes a very strong indication of weakness. A sharp move down the next day (on Monday) will confirm the weakness. Up-thrust kind of moves are seen when the prices will go up during the day (or bar) on a wide spread and come back to close on the low of the day on high volume. All up-thrusts are usually signs of weakness as long as you have an up move behind you or signs of distribution in the background.

3. A no-demand day (or bar) [Not seen on Friday] - In any move that is liable to fail, you will see either a ‘no demand up-day’ (low volume) or an excessively high volume up-day, with no results (prices come off the next day, or an up-thrust appears). Friday was not a day of no-demand bar.

4. Narrow spread, on an up-day [Not seen on Friday] – Such moves are seen into new high ground, on very high volume. High volume present on an up-day (or bar), whilst the market falls on the next day (or bar), and fails to make higher prices.

How to tell if a market is weak or strong?

þ Whenever you think of buying into the market, smart money will mark-up the price on your buy order, giving you what appears to be a poor price. You will see gap-up opening, you will see sudden rise of 40-50pts in Nifty, you will see sharp rise in the market mostly by gap-ups. This makes the spread wider as the price is constantly marked up during the day. So by simple observation of the spread of the bar, we can read the sentiment of the smart money. When you feel that markets are moving fast and you are not able to catch it, remember that such moves are intentional and created to keep you out of the market during early moves.

þ Prices have been rapidly marked up by professional traders, whose view of the market at that moment is bullish. We know this because the volume has increased, substantially backing up the move. It cannot be a trap up-move, because the volume is supporting the move.

þ Wide spreads up are designed to lock you out of the market rather than attempting to suck you in. This will tend to put you off buying, as it goes against human nature to buy something today that you could have bought cheaper yesterday, or even a few hours earlier. This also panics those traders that shorted the market on the last low, usually encouraged by the timely release of ‘bad news’, which always seems to appear on, or near, the lows. These traders now have to cover their short position (buying), adding to the demand.

Testing with low volume is a sign of strength

þ The danger to any professional operator who is bullish, is supply coming into his market (selling), because on any rally, selling on the opposite side of the market will act as resistance to the rally and may even swamp his buying. Bullish professionals will have to absorb this selling if they want higher prices to be maintained. If they are forced to absorb selling at higher levels (by more buying), the selling may become so great that prices are forced down. They will have been forced to buy stock at an unacceptably high level and will lose money if the market falls.

þ The professional trader knows that given enough time (with bad news, persistent down-moves, even time itself with nothing much happening) the floating supply can be removed from the market, but he has to be sure the supply has been completely removed before trying to trade up his holding. The best way to find out is to rapidly mark the prices down. This challenges any bears around to come out into the open and show their hand. The amount of volume (activity) of trading as the market is marked down will tell the professional how much selling there is. Low volume, or low trading activity, shows there is little selling on the mark-down. Testing is a good sign of strength (as long as you have strength in the background). Usually, a successful test (on low volume) tells you that the market is ready to rise immediately.
