EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2010

My new hourly rate will be increased to $60.00 CDN per hour.

Since July 1, 2004 accounting services in Manitoba, Canada are mostly taxable and subject to Manitoba Provincial Retail Sales Tax of 7% (P.S.T.), which will be added to all my billings. This is an expense for you and you will not be able to recover it like Goods and Services Tax (G.S.T.), currently at 5%.

This way, you can attach documents to your email if it’s all on your computer anyway, and save a tree and go paperless!

(1) I have to turn on my fax – ugh

Clients and customers have to phone me first to send a fax as I have to turn on the fax machine. Although this sounds like a simple thing .. I’m not always available near a phone or I am on a different time zone. As such, some clients and customers have complained because they were standing next to a fax machine to fax me something and it was getting rejected. When they try to phone me, I never answered.

(2) I have to turn off my fax – oops

Most of the times, a client or customer will phone me and need to fax me something, but they will do it before lunch, or before the end of the day. In these cases, I turn on the fax machine and leave it on until I receive the fax documents. Sometimes, I will turn it on and go out and run some errands, or eat, or spend time with my wife .. and forget to turn it off. When clients or customers try to call me in this case, all they here is that annoying fax screeeech and unable to leave a message.

I’ve been using the AZZ Cardfile software for years now, and usually tend to recommend it to people that I know and my clients, if they are looking for something like this. It takes little memory, resides in your taskbar near your timeclock, and is quite versatile. It’s basically a cardex on the left side, and it’s a free-for-all on the right side! URL’s are clickable links .. if you type mailto:email@address it is also clickable .. you can toss over pictures, and the text expands as you need the space. On my main phone number database, I jot down dates and brief comment discussions .. since my memory sucks!

I personally have 3 “Cardfiles” accessible at all times. It’s nice, because if you go ‘File’ / ‘Open’ / .. the last 4 datafiles are shown (like Excel or Word does if you know what I mean). This is how I utilize this neat little program:

* Every possible person for both personal and business is added to the database, last name order. I also update with addresses .. phone numbers .. comments .. everything!

BLOGGING MONETIZATION AND SPONSORSHIPS

* I list each blog in the left side, and I have a standard template on the right side. On the last day of each month, I add all my sponsors and make it easy to copy/paste into my blogs! I usually finish PRE-posting them around the 2nd of the month, but pre-date them around the 10th

ONLINE PASSWORDS AND AFFILIATIONS

Geez Loueeeze! These can take forever … Don’t use a binder – use this! I have a clickable link to each site that I have to log in to – including the userid, the password, and the email that is being recognized. If there is any other information (like, mother’s maiden name, favorite high school sweetheart name, etc) .. I also add it.

I pretty much like to keep it simple, so if I click on the top “Projects” I see everything. When the task is done, I click “Completed”. It stores the completed task in the calendar section, but honestly .. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about that.

* To Meet (appointments, meetings with clients, etc)
* To Get (missing information, correspondence to lawyers, etc)
* To Do (The Task)
* To Pay (Accounts Payable reminders)

Context

* T1s (personal tax returns)
* T2s (year ends and corporation tax returns)
* Monthlies (monthly bookkeeping and accounting that are in)
* Compliance (PST, GST, Payroll, Request to file, etc)
* House & Home (bathroom duties, basement cleaning, cat litter removal, etc)
* Blogging & Online (backup reminders mostly .. Been thinking of using it for blogging schedule)

Probably not. Consider this blog – as my business card for my bookkeeping and accounting and income tax business.
