2014 Playing/Training Kit

The full range of playing/training kit for next season can be viewed here on the Club's website. All items come embroidered with the Club's badge, Sponsors' logos (where appropriate) and your initials.

Anybody planning to purchase new items for the 2014 season are advised to get orders placed as soon as possible. You can complete the on-line order form here.

Players' Meeting

A players’ meeting will be held in the Morgan Room, at the Village Hall from 11.00 – 12.00 am on Sunday 15th December. The purpose of the meeting will be to make plans for what promises to be a very exciting 2014 season.

This will include the election of Captains for the 4 League Teams [ If anyone wishes to stand for the captaincy, of any of the sides, could they make that known to the Secretary prior to the meeting]

Please make every effort to attend, what remains of the Bar will be open after the meeting

Record numbers progress after assessments

Congratulations to the record numbers of Youth players who have progressed through the County assessment process this year.

Joining Graham Beer, Lloyd Belcher and Harrison Ward in the County Squads are Asad Rafiq, Tejas Anand, Alfie and Charlie Turner.

The following have all been selected for District Squads Kamal Hamid, Adeel Rehman, Jamie Wells, Ryan Hicks, Caelan Isaac, Jahan Swaine, Alec Cooke, Tom Whittenbury ,Thor Henriksen and Josh Richardson.
These may be joined by Leo Galpin and Cameron Homer who are to be assessed at a future date.

Annual General Meeting

Due to the ongoing building work at the Club, the Annual General Meeting, normally held in early December, will be moved to early in the New Year. No date has been set yet .... watch this space.

'Path Players dominate Cherwell League averages

The Cherwell League recently published 2013 batting and bowling averages for all clubs.

Horspath players dominate the Division 1 tables with 5 players in the top 10 batting averages and 3 players making the top 10 in the bowling.
Pat Foster's batting average of 69.25 was second highest in League 1 while Shahbaz Ali's 56 was in third place. They were joined in the top ten by Will Eason (44.5), Rob Eason (38.9) and Jimmy Phillips (37.07).
Lee Mason topped the bowling chart with an average of 11.89. Adam Krol (17.59) and Pat Foster (18.28) also featured in the top ten. (See below)

Horspath players also dominated the Division 3 figures with Joey Todd (111.3) and Steve Green (64.54) placed first and second in the batting chart. We also occupied the top three spots in the Division 3 bowling table with Lloyd Belcher (9.11), Andy Cummings (10.08) and Mark Skelton (10.26).

In Division 6, Andrew Roberts (66.66) topped the batting averages with James Earnshaw (56.25) coming third. In Division 9, Derek Watts (37.1) and Omar Chaudry (11.33) featured in the top 10 batting and bowling respectively.

Mase is leading wicket taker

Lee Mason 39 CL wickets

Congratulations to Lee Mason who was the Club's leading wicket taker in the Cherwell League last season. Mase captured a total of 39 wickets in Division 1, at an average of 11.9 runs/wkt. He returned the outstanding figures of 9 for 20 in the match at Shipton on 18th May.

Pat Foster picked up 28 wickets for the 1st XI, including 8 for 44 against Buckingham Town.

Ceri Holmes topped the bowling chart for the 2nd XI taking 29 wickets in Division 3. His best figures were 7 for 29 against Shipton IIs.

For the 3rd XI, Stuart Berry took 26 wickets at an average of 17.5. He was also the most used bowler sending down a total of 170 overs during the season.

The leading wicket taker in the 4th XI was Omar Chaudhry with a total of 31 victims.

Club Room Work Party

For all those who would like be able to say that they contributed towards the Clubroom extension here is your opportunity. We require a work party on Saturday morning from 9.00am to get up the wooden flooring in the old kitchen serving area and move some rubble to a skip.

Greenie leads the way

709 league runs

Well done to Steve Green who was the Club's leading run scorer in this year's Cherwell League. Greenie hit a total of 709 runs at an average of 59.08. All his runs were scored playing for the 2nd XI in Division 3. Unfortunately, his only innings in the 1st XI ended in him being run out for 0!

Rob Eason was the leading 1st XI batsman with a total of 597 runs at an average of 39.8. Jimmy Phillips (482) and Shahbaz Ali (392) also made significant contributions.

In the 3rd XI, James Earnshaw made 225 runs at an average of 56.25 having played in just 5 matches. Skipper Robbie Cooke was the next highest run scorer with 210 at an average of 15.

The evergreen Derek Watts led the way for the 4th XI with 371 runs at an average of 37.1. Gareth Hamilton provided the next best contribution with 202 runs.

The best league batting average, 75, belonged to Clive Ricks who was only out once in his 6 innings. Pat Foster's average of 69.25 from 9 innings in Division 1 was perhaps a more notable achievement.

Cherwell League Dinner

David Steele, BBC Sports Personality in 1975 for his heroic batting in the Ashes series against Australia, has been confirmed as the guest speaker for the Cherwell League dinner at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford, on Saturday, October 19th.

Any Members wanting to attend this event need to contact Max Eason by this Sunday (6th Oct).

2013 Cherwell League Averages

Cherwell League averages for all four teams are now available on this website. You can view batting and bowling averages here and see individual player records here. Use the drop down boxes on both screens to filter records as required.

During the season a total of 70 player represented the Club in Cherwell League matches. Only 4 players were available/selected for all 18 weeks - Steve Green, Joey Todd, Jahan Mohammed & Jimmy Phillips.

Steve Green was the top run scorer with 709 and Lee Mason picked up the most wickets taking 39 at an average of just 11.9.

Clubroom Extension - Work Party

Work will start on an extension to the Clubroom shortly. The current bar area needs to be cleared and packed away before the building work gets under-way. We therefore plan to have a work party on Sunday morning, 29th September, starting at ~10.30am. Any help would be much appreciated. We would also be grateful for any cardboard boxes in which to store the various items.

Youth Presentation Evening

U17s are Oxfordshire Champions

Victorious Horspath U17 team

Horspath U17s won the Honey Bee Trophy in a nail biting finish at the Rec earlier today.

Chasing Horspath's 131 for 4, with 2 overs remaining, Aston Rowant required just 3 runs to win with 5 wickets in-hand. The penultimate over was bowled by Asad Rafiq who managed to restrict Rowant to just 1 run, while taking a further wicket. That left Adeel Rehman to bowl the final over with Rowant needing just 2 runs for victory. A scrambled single off the 3rd ball brought the scores level but the batsman then failed to connect with deliveries 4 & 5. The sixth ball also beat the bat and a run-out resulted as the batmen tried to scramble the winning run to the keeper.

With Aston Rowant's innings ending on 131 for 7 , Horspath were declared the winners having lost fewer wickets.

Dan Todd was named Man-of-the-Match for his 42no in the Horspath innings.

Congratulations to the 4th XI who secured the top spot in Division 9 after a draw against Great Tew IVs on Saturday.
