Autoquake: Senior Front End Developer

Autoquake.com is a cutting edge ecommerce company in a very large vertical market - the £34 billion used car industry. As the UK-s leading online used car retailer the company is revolutionising the industry and has aspirations to do so worldwide. On the front end, Autoquake.com has a transactional website which allows consumers to make a purchase decision for an expensive and complex used product. The transaction is broken down into a number of stages, such as paying a deposit, applying for finance, settling the balance and purchasing auxiliary services such as a used car warranty. Cars are displayed in a "virtual showroom- with over 50 pictures. There are plans to extend this to high definition video. The website currently has 350,000 unique visitors and 5.5 million page views per month, up from 30,000 visitors per month a year ago and continuing to grow rapidly. T

he company has also developed sophisticated pricing and yield management technology similar to what is used in the travel industry, but never before seen in the car industry. In addition to transacting through the website, customers can also contact Autoquake.com over the phone. This is handled by an in house contact centre, located in Birmingham, which is supported by a CRM system and call centre software. Autoquake.com takes physical possession of the cars and has two large distribution/handover centres with plans to open up an additional two in the near future. In the distribution centres the cars are inspected, repaired, photographed, stored and subsequently handed over to retail customers. This is managed using a production software system. 30% of the cars are delivered from the distribution centre to the customer without the customer having physically seen the car before it arrives at their doorstep. The remaining 70% of customers coming to the distribution/handover centre to pick up the car. Autoquake.com sells cars on behalf of major leasing companies and we are working on backwards integrating with the IT systems of the leasing companies to be able to pull stock "on demand- depending on customer request. Autoquake.com is one of the fastest growing ecommerce companies in the world with annual growth exceeding 300%. The company has 100 employees and is headquartered in central London.
