Often we think of sermons as lectures on biblical and theological facts, or as moral lessons. Actually, sermons are neither.

Often we think of sermons as lectures on biblical and theological facts, or as moral lessons. Actually, sermons are neither. Rather they are proclamations of what God has done for His people in Christ. In a sermon, the congregation should hear about God’s work for His people throughout the unfolding of biblical history. Adults and children alike should be able to answer the following questions after listening to a sermon:

What was the point of the sermon?

What did you hear about your sin?

What did you hear about the Gospel?

What has Christ done for you?

Parents should encourage children to listen closely so children can answer these questions.
