HXC Wrestling makes history by introducing the first Central Manchester based wrestling promotion in decades

The second weekend of April 2013 will find Manchester overrun with pro-wrestling fans, as the city’s first central based British Wrestling promotion in years opens its doors for the first time. HXC Wrestling is thrilled to be launching with its show ‘One Dark Night’ at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Student Union. Aimed at an adult crowd, HXC is a hardcore, edgy wrestling experience which has attracted top British talent such as T-Bone, Loco Mike Mason, Cyanide and Clint Margera to the card, all esteemed and celebrated British wrestling talent who are committed and experienced in keeping an audience on edge from start to finish.

As to why the brand has decided to start their run of varied shows in this way, Mike Hough, the promoter behind HXC Wrestling, is quick to talk of the intense pride he has of the new brand, “The wrestling community are excited by a new promotion being formed and have been very receptive to our positioning” he continued, "Tickets have been purchased online by fans from up and down the country who are excited to see what HXC has to offer. We have carried out detailed market research into what the British Wrestling fans we are targeting with this particular show, feel like they are missing. We found that most are bored of the shows that ‘play it safe’ and are more ‘family friendly’, not that there is anything wrong with the family shows, but we’re approaching a different market and they want something a bit different, more adult.”

Mainstream pro-wrestling promotions such as WWE are heavily aimed at a youth market and incorporate ‘friendly fun’ into their entertainment. This is an angle Hough, who has a wealth of experience in the field, wants to steer clear of, “The problem with switching a new, especially adult audience on to wrestling is getting them over the perception that it’s no longer ‘cool’ to like it. At one stage wrestling was extremely popular, then after a while if you admitted you were watching it, people didn’t seem to understand why as the perception was that wrestling was for kids.

This is more than just your regular family wrestling show. It is an all encompassed night out, a club night feel with DJ's playing sets between bouts. It’s a party, a full night of assorted entertainment. Our roster features both Male and Female talent all of whom are the highest calibre of professionals. Yes, the results are predetermined and the show follows storylines, but fans watch for the same reason anyone would watch a soap opera – for the entertainment value. Wrestling has come under fire in the past for being ‘fake’, but if you're hitting someone in the head with a steel chair, there’s very few ways you can fake that. It takes the toughest and most coordinated of athletes to pull it off to a high standard. Once we get people through the door and they experience the world of HXC Wrestling, any pre-existing negative perceptions will change.”

After just a few days of ticket sales, the promotion had to source another venue for the show, due to the overwhelming popularity of the event. When asked what the future has in store for HXC Wrestling, Hough has high hopes, “What I can say is that HXC's name will grow a great deal throughout 2013. There is currently a wrestling boom going on in the UK and it's an exciting time for us to be launching. We have a lot of exciting ideas for a variety of upcoming shows and feel that we may just have the edge to become a real force in the world of professional wrestling”.

Backstage Reaction To WWE Releases

After last week's round of WWE developmental releases, it's expected that more releases will be announced before the new WWE Performance Center opens on July 1st. There also may be some other developmental employees shifted around - some sent to WWE headquarters and some just released.

Word also is that WWE will be getting rid of a lot of talents who have been in their developmental system for a while without really doing anything in NXT or getting called to the main roster. Derrick Bateman's release was a perfect example of that.

News Of The Marine 3's Success

WWE's The Marine 3 with The Miz is their most successful straight-to-DVD release in a long time. After four weeks of being released, the movie sold 153,226 units for $2,292,261. That's more than any regular WWE DVD will do this year with the possible exception of WrestleMania 29.

It's said that morale is at an all-time low in WWE developmental, according to one person. Another described it as at a mixed level. Tom Prichard was much more liked as head trainer than Bill DeMott is. A lot of people are also being cautiously optimistic regarding the move to Orlando for the new WWE Performance Center.

WWE Home Video UK to be at MCM London Comic Con this weekend!

We're delighted to announce that WWE Home Video UK will be present at the MCM London Comic Con this weekend (24th-26th May) at Excel London in the form of a shop where we'll be selling a selection of titles at some great prices on DVD and Blu-ray.

Details of what titles will be available at the event will be revealed via Facebook & Twitter over the next few days in the run up to the event.

The shop will be part of the Fetch Publicity stand (booth no. 500) and will be located on MCM Boulevard inside the convention hall.

Depending on whether or not The Rock decides to return to wrestling, Brock Lesnar may return to WWE TV later this year to begin a feud with either Rock or The Undertaker.

It turns out that the spot on RAW a few weeks ago where Lesnar stopped and stared at a poster of The Rock wasn't scripted by WWE officials. Apparently that was Lesnar "going into business for himself."

While nobody knows if The Rock will return yet, Vince McMahon and others in the company feel that he will be feeling better this fall and agree to work WrestleMania XXX against Lesnar.

Spoiler Results For WWE Smackdown 5/24/13

Smackdown:

The show opened with Miz TV. He had Fandango as the guest. This led to Wade Barrett coming out. He was mad at Fandango for what happened on Raw. They put him in a match with Miz because he interrupted and they fought. Fandango is Teflon. Fandango went to commentary. He danced at ringside and they all went back to the ring. Barrett hit the hammer on Fandango, but it was a DQ.

For the third night in a row, Jack Swagger lost in a good match. Tonight it was to Daniel Bryan. Kane was with him to counteract Zeb.

Matt Striker interviewed Damien Sandow. He talked smack on Sheamus. Looks like they are setting that up.

Big Show was beating up Chris Jericho when Y2J hit a Codebreaker on the floor and got back in the ring before 10 to win.

Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel came out and ran down Triple H. Then, Axel beat Sin Cara.

We got our ION Main Event match next as Kofi Kingston and Dean Ambrose went to a no contest when the other Shield guys attacked and Orton and Sheamus made the save. It turned into a six man that The Shield won when Ambrose pinned Kofi.

After the match Team Hell No came out and the faces were left standing tall as The Shield got laid out.

So after last night's Extreme Rules, what fallout will we see tonight on Raw? Will Dolph Ziggler return to try and psych out Alberto Delo Rio after his victory last night? What will be Ryback and John Cena's responses after their Last Man Standing match? Will Lesnar move to another feud after last night's match? And who will become a Paul Heyman guy? Keep it here to find out.

We open with an ambulance coming out and Ryback appears from it and climbs on the top of it, and challenges Cena to an Ambulance match at the Payback PPV. Wow, that's a weird opening.

Back from break, and Fandango is making his way to the ring, with Summer Rae. Wade Barrett is out next, for this tag match. Their opponents are out next, firstly The Miz is out and his partner is Chris Jericho.

Match 1 - Fandango (w/Summer Rae) & Wade Barrett vs. The Miz & Chris Jericho
In the middle of this match, Fandango apparently has had enough, and then starts doing a dance with Summer and their music. Wade Barrett is obviously less than impressed, but gets taken out by both guys. After a Lionsault and a Codebreaker, Jericho tags in Miz and he locks on the figure four for the win.
WINNERS - The Miz & Chris Jericho

Fandango and Summer continue dancing but The Miz & Jericho head outside to meet them. Fandango hops the barrier and runs off (accidentally colliding with a fan). Jericho approaches Summer who at first is worried, but then looks happy as they dance. It looks as if they're about to fall in love, only for Chris's face to turn to a grin and leave her hanging (clearly a response for last week's fake antics from Summer).

Paul Heyman's latest client will be revealed later.

Back from break and Vickie has come out and says that Jack Swagger will be in a match later, his opponent will we selected by voting on the WWE App later on. The 3 candidates are The Great Khali, R-Truth and Randy Orton.

They now reflect on how The Shield won gold last night. Cut to Kane and Bryan backstage, talking about how they're no longer the champs. Kane says they're due a rematch and mentions how they must not show weakness to them. Bryan takes this as him being considered the weak link of the team, Kofi tries to cool things down between the team but Bryan heads off in a huff.

Sheamus makes his way to the ring. He'll be in action after the break.

Back from break and they recap Sheamus's strap match with Mark Henry last night. They replay the clip from the post show with Henry backstage. His opponent is Titus O'Neil, apparently this match has come up due to Titus's comments last night on the post-show.

Match 2 - Sheamus vs. Titus O'Neil (w/Darren Young)
Decent match here. Sheamus gets the win with the Brogue Kick. This could have been a jobber style match, but Titus had an impressive showing.
WINNER- Sheamus

Paul Heyman's newest client will be revealed next.

Heyman is now making his way out, saying that all the crowd's responses had no effect on the result of last night's main event as Brock Lesnar beat Triple H last night and Triple H headed out with his sledgehammer between his legs. He now says that it's now about making history. He then introduces his new client, who is Michael McGillicutty, now renamed and repackaged as Curt or Curtis Axel. He says how the fans boo him, like the same receptions that Punk and Lesnar's name and how he wants his own legacy, so they renamed him in honor of his father, Curt Hennig and grandfather, Larry 'The Ax' Hennig. Hence, Curtis Axel. Heyman tries to get a response from the crowd, but Triple H's music hits and he comes down to the ring.

Triple H says that he went to war with Lesnar last night, and true, Lesnar won, but he limped away. He says that tonight, he's going to beat the hell out of Heyman. Axel steps in saying that Triple H won't allow him to do that. Triple H slaps Axel down and says he'll face him first instead, and then beat Heyman instead. So it seems there's an interesting trial by fire for Axel.

They now recap last week's Raw when Swagger & Del Rio got in a brawl.

Ricardo Rodriguez is introduced, who in turn introduces Alberto Del Rio. His opponent is Big E. Langston, accompanied by AJ Lee.

Match 3 - Alberto Del Rio (w/Ricardo Rodriguez) vs. Big E. Langston (w/AJ Lee)
Decent match here. Langston gets the win with the Big End.
WINNER - Big E. Langston

They replay the ambulance moment that opened the show.

Later tonight, 6-man tag action as The Shield takes on Kofi Kingston & Team Hell No. And also coming up, it's Triple H taking on Curtis Axel.

Back from break and Layla and AJ Lee are in the ring for a Divas match, they recap the cat fight from last night, with Kaitlyn.

Match 4 - Layla vs. AJ Lee
During this match, we see the Bellas make some dodgy comment or something. AJ gets the submission victory with the Octpus stretch. Layla taps out on AJ's ass... no joke.

Voting is now open for who Jack Swagger will face tonight, with The Great Khali, R-Truth & Randy Orton. Also, later tonight, Triple H faces Curtis Axel.

Back from break, and a match is already underway, with Cody Rhodes taking on Zack Ryder.

Short little match. Rhodes wins with the Beautiful Disaster.

After this match, Ryback comes out, with Zack Ryder still in the ring. Ryback beats him down and gives him Shellshock and then puts him in the ambulance. The ambulance reverses out of the arena and Ryback celebrates on the stage.

Up next, it's the 6-man tag match as The Shield takes on Kofi Kingston and Team Hell No.

Very good match here, Rona Reigns gets the win for his team with a Spear to Kane.

According to the WWE website, Wade Barrett will be defending his Intercontinental Title against Sin Cara on this Wednesday's Main Event.

They now replay the Triple H and Curtis Axel confrontation.

In the locker room, Triple H is taping up getting ready for his match. One of the medics comes in and says that the doctor hasn't cleared him to compete. Triple H asks him to tell the doc that he's going out no matter or what and if the doctor won't allow it, he'll get rid of him.

Jack Swagger comes out now, with Zeb Coulter, to find out who his opponent is, which is announced by Lawler. With 73% of the vote, Randy Orton will be facing Swagger. He starts to come out as we go to break.

Back from break and Orton is in the ring.

Decent match. Orton wins with an RKO.

Triple H dominates the match, but eventually the effects of last night's match and he's in too unfit a shape to continue the match. the referee calls the match off.

Triple H is being attended to by medics at ringside as Raw goes off the air.

Update On CM Punk's WWE Return

Everything regarding CM Punk's return to action is being kept quiet within WWE. A lot depends on how well his knee heals up but it will be interesting to see if he returns on Monday's RAW from Canada because that was the most recent date officials wanted him back. Punk would need to return soon if he's going to have a match on the June 16th Payback pay-per-view, as planned before.

PWInsider.com has confirmed the following WWE NXT talents have also been let go today:

*Brandon Traven, who worked the Mid-Western independent scene as Brian Beaker before being signed to developmental. He had originally trained under Harley Race in Missouri.

*Percy Watson, who was signed to the company in 2009 and showed some real character and flashes of greatness on the fifth season of NXT, teaming with Titus O'Neil. He had been working regularly for NXT in developmental but was never moved on up full-time to the main roster.

*Anya, a 6'1" Russian kickboxer named Anna Bogomazova who was signed in the summer of 2012.
