Do you look at little kids running around all the time and wonder where they get all that energy? Do you look at them and remember that you used to do that, or wonder if you used to do that?

All kids have stamina that goes on forever. However, as we age, most of us lose that stamina because we haven’t kept up with our health in any fashion, and the foods we eat affect us differently. As a child, if someone gave you a lot of sugar, you’d run like a wild person until you finally crashed. As an older person, you’d probably just crash and fall asleep after awhile.

Metabolism has a lot to do with how we process our foods. We can control parts of how our metabolism will work by getting into a workout routine that helps stimulate digestion, which is pretty much what metabolism is all about. Would you like to find the energy to do things that you haven’t felt like doing in a very long time? Here are some ways to regain a bit of that energy and stamina.

1. First, determine that you’re going to do something. This isn’t a physical tip, but a mental tip. Many people say they want to do something, then don’t do anything at all, or do it for a few days expecting results, and quit. If you really decide you want to do it, get yourself either a large notepad or a large calendar. List what you want to do on a daily basis, then do it. Every day you complete it, or a portion of it, mark it off your list. Set up a 30-day trial for yourself to see if you can do something at least 20 days. They say it takes doing something at least 16 times for it to become a habit you’ll miss; give it a shot.

2. Start off by walking. Walking is one of the best exercises in the world for most people. You can decide to either walk on a treadmill, or do outside and walk. Many people don’t like treadmills because after awhile, even if you have a TV or stereo, it feels boring. So, alternate between that and going outside for a walk. Start out walking at a pace you can handle, and try to get at least 15 minutes in. If you have a course of some kind, such as walking around your block in the neighborhood, that works well also. If you can find a place where it’s beautiful and scenic, such as a park or walking along a lake or river, even better. It helps you stay inspired and want to continue doing it over and over.

At some point, you’ll want to alternate between walking faster and walking slower. What you might try to do is find a place where you can walk at least 15 minutes in one direction. Try walking that one at a brisker pace than you normally would. Then, when you get to your marker, walk back at a slower, regular pace. If you can’t do 15 minutes of a hard walk, do as long as you can, then when you reach your limit turn around and walk normally; it all helps.

3. If you have a bicycle, and the seat doesn’t hurt too much, this offers a great cardio workout. The thing about a bicycle is that you can go so many more places than just walking, get there faster, and your legs move faster which gives you a better workout. Also, when you get a little bit tired, you can coast and you’re still moving forward, or back to where you want to do, with minimal effort. The important thing about biking is to make sure your body is comfortable; if not, you’ll quit pretty quickly.

4. There are plenty of other motion exercises that will help you gain more stamina. Some are a bit more intense, such as running and jogging, whereas others are a bit more sedate and easy to handle, such as yoga and tai chi. The thing here is that your body needs movement, steady movement, and whether it’s controlled or not, it’s movement and motion that helps you build up your stamina.

Many people buy pedometers to measure how many steps they take every day, and if you can shoot for at least 5,000 steps or more a day, your body will benefit from it. This is more of a cumulative type of exercising rather than getting it all in one burst, but you could view it in a way where you use the early part of the day just walking around, then later on try to find a way to get the rest of the steps in, even if it’s just another short walk of some kind.

5. You’ve got to change up your diet. Instead of telling you what to eat, we’ll tell you what drags you down. As you get older, the more carbs you eat without some kind of balance with protein and grains, the most apt you’re going to be to have energy sapped out of you. If you’ve noticed that when you eat certain meals you’re ready to go to sleep in the afternoon, that’s a pretty good indicator of the types of foods you might need to back off from.

Bread, especially white bread, will bring you down. Rice, potatoes, and pasta will shut you down. Too much sugar in something will shut you down also. The best things are more protein, leaner meats if you can, and vegetables. Some people will shut down if they eat too much fruit in the afternoon because it’s natural sweetener, fructose, is still sugar, something that vegetables don’t have in them. The most important thing here is to listen to your body, because even certain proteins will affect some people differently than others.

If you can try to follow each of these tips for at least a 30-day period, you might notice some very positive changes in your body that you like. Because, as you increase your stamina, you should also lose weight and inches off your body. And if that doesn’t inspire you to do more, we don’t know what will.

Our bodies are under assault at all times. They have to contend with the elements, clothes, scents and smells, liquids, people touching them, diseases, bugs, etc. Let’s face it; we’re lucky our skin is as resilient as it is with all the things that come our way.

One thing that’s a result of all these external, and internal things, is dry skin. Dry skin can be very irritating. It can be really itchy. It can be cracked. It can break out into hives. And it can just feel miserable, which makes us miserable.

Of course, there are many things we can do to help take care of our skin, and make us feel alive again. Here are some tips that will help you to feel better.

1. Drink lots of water. We’ve all heard that the body is mostly water. While that’s true, another truth is that most of us are seriously dehydrated. That’s because we don’t drink enough water. Sure, we may drink a lot of liquids, but many of those liquids either contain things that help dry us out or force water out of us, such as tea, which is diuretic that makes you go to the bathroom more.

Although we’ve also heard that 8 glasses of water a day can help appetite suppression, and that we can get water from other foodstuffs, it’s probably not a bad thing to try to drink closer to 9 cups a day for women, 13 cups a day for men. But take heed; that’s inclusive of all the other liquid items you’re drinking, so make sure to balance it all out.

2. Use lotion without alcohol in it. Alcohol will dry your skin, which means that no matter how much lotion you put on, you’ll always feel like you need more. In today’s world, the best lotions seem to have either aloe or shea butter in them.

3. Bathe in oils rather than salts for calming. Though there are wonderful scented bath salts, salt dries the skin, and any of those crystal bath additives that have the word “sodium” in them will potentially dry your skin. There are plenty of bath oils that will help you take care of dry skin, and some women actually add baby oil to their baths.

4. Try to use moisturizing soap to wash with. There are plenty of both liquid and bar soaps that contain either oils or moisturizers that are good for your skin. If you wash too often, though, even moisturizing soaps will dry you out, as your body’s natural oils need time to come out and help take care of your skin.

5. Wear cotton clothes more often. Though there are other fabrics that might make you feel comfortable, cotton is the best “breathing” fabric, and therefore your skin won’t get overheated too often. You don’t want to sweat too much because sweat contains salt, which of course dries your skin out.

Of course, there are other things you probably do to your body that contributes to dry skin, such as shaving, too much sun, and exposing your body too often to the elements. If you follow the tips above, your skin will thank you for it.

Your feet are always under assault and pressure. You walk on your feet, which means they have to take the full weight of your body. You wear shoes that totally consume them, or make them balance on heels. Sometimes you wear open toed shoes or flip-flops, or some other kind of shoes, that exposes them to the elements and all sorts of other dangers.

What can happen is that your feet could start feeling really itchy and uncomfortable. You might have dry skin. You might have developed an infection. You may have irritated them by rubbing. It doesn’t matter; itchy feet are an irritation you don’t like dealing with, especially if you can’t just stay home for a week laying in bed on top of the covers to give them a lot of open air.

Below are some ways you can help alleviate some of your itchiness as it pertains to your feet:

1. Washing your feet with a mild soap can help bring some immediate relief. You can do this independent of taking a full shower, but if you take a shower, you should take care of your feet afterwards, as your feet have possibly just been touched by your regular shower soap, shampoo, and possibly conditioner. Try to use a soap that has some kind of lotion or softener in it. Always pat your feet dry rather than rubbing them dry, but make sure to totally dry between your toes; not doing so could cause a fungus, and if you’re diabetic, could cause other problems.

2. Soaking your feet always feels pretty good. If you can add something to the water, such as something that adds a little fizz, or something that may have some type of lotion or oils, that works well also. However, don’t use any soaps to soak in that have any alcohol in them; these will only dry your feet, offering no relief once you’re done with your soak.

3. Putting lotion on your feet, especially lotion with moistening properties, is always recommended to make your feet feel and smell better. One thing about lotions, though, is to not put any between your toes.

4. Powder is great for helping your feet stay dry and smell nice, and it can also help keep your feet smooth. If you have chronic itching, a medicated powder could be just the thing you need. As opposed to lotion, putting powder between your toes is actually recommended to help keep your feet dry.

5. Let your feet breathe some time during every day. Many women come home from wearing stockings all day and put something else on their feet. They may even sleep in socks and the like. Feet need time to breathe, to feel the open air on them without containment. Of course you also want to keep your feet protected from things that may be on floors or carpets at the same time. Maybe a possible change in your lifestyle, which will also help with relaxation, is to find a way to have periods of time where you can elevate your feet, lay back, and relax, maybe while watching TV or reading a book. This will benefit more than just your feet.

Taking care of your feet is essential to a great quality of life; treat them well, and they’ll take you around the world.

Have you ever wondered why, after eating or drinking something sugar free, you may start experiencing some kind of stomach discomfort, sometimes so bad that it results in painful gas and possible diarrhea? Many people believe that eating and drinking sugar free items allows them to eat more and drink more than they would if ingesting the same item with sugar in it.

Whether they have more or not, sometimes these items cause great distress, and most people aren’t sure why. After all, they still taste sweet, maybe not as sweet as the real thing, but most people have no concept of sweeteners or what they might do to a body.

Most items that are sugar free are sweetened with what are known as “sugar alcohols”. These aren’t alcohols like what one might drink to get a buzz. Rather, these are natural occurring alcohols in plants, which occur naturally. Sugar alcohols are used because many people complain that some sugar free items have an after taste, and these alcohols, because they’re more natural, eliminate that.

Sugar alcohols will reduce tooth decay, and of course they don’t contain sugar, which will keep your glucose level down and possibly help you lose weight, but they can be problems for many people. Sugar alcohols aren’t completely absorbed into the body, which is what contributes to not gaining weight from them. However, because they’re not completely absorbed, this means that your stomach has to try to deal with them, and unfortunately, your stomach and small intestines aren’t prepared to deal with them except in very small quantities.

How can you identify sugar alcohols? Almost all of them end with “ol” after them. So, if you’re someone who looks at ingredients (which everyone should), you’ll notice names like Sorbitol, Glycerol, Maltitol and Mannitol, although there are plenty of others. Names such as HSH and Isomalt are also sugar alcohols.

Sugar alcohols aren’t the only things that can cause problems in some people. There’s a type of natural sugar that can also cause problems in some people. These are known as “disaccharides”, which are a type of carbohydrate sugar created more from chemical reactions than naturally, although they originate in natural states.

Overall, these are harder to determine on their own because, though they end in “ose”, not all items that end in those letters signify that they’re disaccharides. One that definitely is, that many people of many cultures have a problem with, is lactose, which can cause violent stomach distress in some people, especially people of African descent in some fashion. Yet, other sugars, such as sucrose, or table sugar, offer no problems whatsoever. However, if you’re checking ingredients and see a host of these items, and later notice that you had problems, it’s possible that your issues may be related to some of these items.

Smoking kills; there’s no easier way to say that. Sure, there are some people who seem to live long lives even though they’ve smoked, but for the overwhelming majority of people, smoking kills. Smoking is the number one killer of people in the world for preventable diseases. Smoking is the number one reason people get most cancers, especially lung cancer. Smoking is the number one reason people get emphysema and other breathing related diseases. Smoking is the number one reason for gum disease.

Okay, that’s been said over and over, and still many people smoke. It’s hard to relate to something like dying when you haven’t been personally affected by it, haven’t seen someone hooked to a ventilator trying to breathe, or haven’t met someone who’s trachea has been removed because of smoking and speaks through a hole in their throat with a vibrator. Commercials can’t seem to get through to people, and today’s moving usually show more criminals and victims than heroes and main, positive protagonists, smoking.

So, what else do you need to read that may turn you away from smoking? Here some some health items that you may not think of as health items that might help to convince you to stop smoking:

1. Smoking stinks. Smoking smells. Even smokers know what their clothes smell like the day after a night of drinking and smoking, no matter where they are. It’s bad enough that smokers have ingested cigarette smoke on purpose. Second hand smoke, while not as deadly, still impacts a lot of people’s health in a bad way. And smelling the chemicals from cigarette smoke on clothes later on, though greatly reduced, still can aggravate health problems.

2. Smoke stains things. You’ve seen the after effects of a house fire. Cigarette smoke is different only that, instead of staining everything black, it stains things either brown or yellow. A person can have yellow stained teeth even if they don’t drink coffee because of cigarettes. Cigarette smoke can stain walls; it can alter the color of fabric. You easily know a smoker’s car, not only for its smell but because of its dingy look. And it stains the hands and skin of smokers.

3. Smoking will age your skin. Smoking isn’t one of those things that immediately affects everything, but over time, for some people a short period of time, you’ll start noticing things you hadn’t noticed before, especially in your skin. We already mentioned how it colors your skin. It also wrinkles your skin, and ages it in other ways. Smoking cigarettes can age your skin as much as 10 years within two years.

4. Smoking causes bad breath. This one is a no-brainer; how could it not? Along with gum disease, mouth and throat cancer, it gives a person perpetual bad breath. Brushing your teeth and sucking on breath mints can’t erase bad breath from smoking because it comes from deep within the body, with every breath you take, from your lungs, not just your stomach. The chemicals from smoking, of which around 4,000 have been identified, take over your entire body, and you just can’t treat one area without treating all of the body.

5. Smoking affects everything else you do in a negative way. There’s just no getting around this one. Smokers drink more coffee, ingesting more caffeine, which makes them wiry and high strung. Smoking drives more people to alcohol and hard drugs than anything else. Smoking affects joints and bones; smoking drives all sorts of chemicals into your blood stream and your lungs. Smoking affects the eyes both externally and internally. And it doesn’t matter what you smoke; it’s not just tobacco and nicotine, although that’s the worst thing you can put into your body. Smoking anything brings carcinogens into your body, along with carbon dioxide, even herbal cigarettes, which some people switch to as a more “healthy” cigarette.

There’s no such thing as a healthy cigarette. There’s no such thing as smoking something safer than something else. Smoking is a terrible habit that will affect you and your body in ways you just can’t fully imagine. And, did we happen to mention this? Smoking kills!

Stop now; get help if you need it. If you can quit smoking before you develop a disease, within 2 to 5 years, depending on how heavy a smoker you are, your body can fully recover. Once you’ve developed a problem, you can’t ever reverse it.

Quitting smoking is the best thing you could ever do for your body.

More women these days are wearing shirts that show off their midriff. Most of us agree, though silently, that if a woman is going to wear those types of shirts, that their abs should at least be somewhat flat, if not ripped. Nothing looks worse than a bulging stomach forcing its way into an image that could be quite flattering with the right stomach.

Here are some tips to achieving a flatter stomach without having to work out hours a day by doing stomach crunches in two different ways:

1. Stomach crunches are the easiest way to achieve great abs. Celebrities like Janet Jackson and Britney Spears are known to do hundreds of these a day when they’re preparing for shows.

However, you can achieve results, though not as quickly, by doing only a few of these, in short bursts, a couple of times a day. The best way to do them is if you have an exercise ball. This will protect your back because it gives you some flexible support, and also adds to the workout because, while you’re doing your crunches, you’ll have inadvertent extra body movements; toning is all about movement.

To do it properly, put the small of your back onto the ball, then lean back. Lift your body up until it’s perpendicular, hold it about 3 seconds, then release, lay back, take a breath, then do it again. Try to do at least 10 crunches in this fashion. If you can’t, do as many as you can; if you have no problems, try to go to 15, but no more to begin with. Rest about one minute, then start a second set of the same number you did the first time. Rest, and then do one more set.

If you can do this twice a day, within a couple of weeks you should notice some changes to your stomach. If at any time you start feeling back pain, reduce the number of crunches you do at one time, but don’t stop outright unless the pain gets to be unbearable.
2. If you don’t have an exercise ball, you can do stomach crunches the traditional way, which is to lay on the floor or a mat flat on your back. You should bend your knees to add support and to help you keep your back as flat as possible. You can use a small pillow under your neck if you need more support, but only keep your hands behind your head.

Where most people fail here is that they believe they have to come all the way up to their knees, and do it fast. Stomach crunches aren’t about speed; they’re about technique. To achieve the best results, lift from your stomach, not from your head and shoulders, and pull your body up only about six inches; that’s it. Hold it for about three seconds, then lower your body back down. Following the previous instructions, try to do at least 10, no more than 15, but only do as many as you feel comfortable doing.
It doesn’t take a lot of work; just some simple exercises that, if done on a consistent basis, can make your arms look like hers, or an athlete’s arms.

Most arm exercises are going to involve using weights of some type, but not all of them do. For instance, one arm exercise that can be done is to sit in a chair with strong armrests. Make sure the armrests are low, because you need to at least be able to have a chance to extend your arms. Put your hands on both armrests, and try to push your body up. You may not be able to lift your body without some help from your legs, which is fine. You don’t even have to lift your body out of the chair; it’s more important to get some resistance going to work the back of your arms rather than actually lifting your body.

Another way to work your arms without weights is with a ball of any size that bounces. The bigger the ball, the better your control will be. Then just start bouncing, or dribbling the ball, and try to do it for at least 3 to 5 minutes. A ball with a little weight behind it, such as a basketball, will help the workout some as the resistance will be greater every time it bounces back up, but a basketball might not work out so well in the house, which is why any ball that bounces can work.

Once you decide to use weights, it’s important to know what you’re looking for in determining how heavy you want your weights to be. Using smaller weights will give you slimmer arms, and allow you to work out longer, whereas using heavier weights will give your arms more muscular definition, but you’ll have to go slower, do fewer reps, and be more careful so you don’t hurt yourself.

The area that most women are looking to work is the triceps, which is the upper part of the arm, most specifically underneath the arm, where many women end up with loose, flabby skin. The most common exercise with weights is the curl, which can be done with a dumbbell, or handheld weight, or barbells, which is a weight lifted by both hands and a full bar.

If you’re using lower weights, dumbbells work best, or just using the barbell without weights on it. Sticking with weights under 10 pounds is best; for most women, using five pound weights will probably do you good. With lower weights, you won’t feel the strain all that much, and you can do more reps with less stress on your muscles.

If you’re using higher weights, you can’t do as many reps, or as many sets. With weight training, every time you use weights your muscles tear a little bit, and then grow back stronger, and this is a continuous process. With heavier weights, you could do damage trying to do as many reps, at least initially, like you could do with lower weights.

There are many other ways to use weights for your arms, and plenty of information available to learn other methods. The main thing to remember is to never over-stress your arms while using weights, or doing any other types of exercise, since your arms are probably one of the most used areas of your body.

Most days we come home feeling at least a little bit of stress. Even the best of days may have had some tense moments in them. Then when we get home, we feel angst and pressure, trying to figure out how to get some release. Some people drink, some smoke, and some do drugs. Some just deal with it and hope they can get to sleep later on.

Here are some tips to help you relax once you’re in for the night:

1. Take off your tight clothing. Even if all you’re wearing is a dress, it’s still much tighter than possibly taking everything off, including bra and underwear, and putting on something very light, such as a large t-shirt, sweats, or something satiny. If you feel comfortable in your own skin, go nude.

2. Sit down in a big, comfortable chair, and lay back as far as possible. This is recommended more than going to bed because the bed represents part of the normal process of the day, whereas laying back in a chair might not be something you do as a course of your normal day. Even if it is, big lounge chairs conform to the body better than a flat bad, offering better relaxation. Closing or covering your eyes can help, and putting a small pillow behind your neck might help even further.

3. Take a long bath or shower. Many people talk about baths, but not as many talk about showers. If you have a stiff stream coming out of your shower head, it can feel like you’re getting a massage on your shoulders and neck, where most people hold the tension they’re trying to release.

4. Drink a cup of hot decaffeinated tea. Caffeine is a stimulant, so anything with caffeine isn’t recommended. Also, tea is recommended over coffee because almost all teas have properties that bring either calming sensations or help heal the body in some fashion as opposed to coffee. Having it hot, even if it’s not your preference, helps you to relax better than cold tea.

5. Turn on music. It doesn’t even have to be soft, relaxing music, just music in general. Some people respond to fast music that they know the lyrics to and can sing along with rather than listening to sad music, which can actually add to your depression, if that’s a symptom of your stress.

6. Grab a good, but entertaining book. Reading can help to take your mind off your problems, but depending on what you decide to read, can tense you back up or stress your brain even further. Reading text books or scientific journals may be educational, but you’re looking for relaxation. Reading Stephen King books might juice you up and you may enjoy it, but it’s hardly relaxing reading. Finding something like and humorous, something that can make you smile or even laugh, is preferable. Think about writers like Stephanie Plum or Tim Dorsey instead.

7. Watch a funny video. Laughter can cure many things, and it certainly takes you away from stress and depression. Cartoons are great stress relievers, but anything that makes you laugh will work. Watch a video or movie as opposed to regular television, which not only has commercials that interrupt your flow but, in the evenings, has constant news reminders of what’s going on in the world; you’re looking to get away from it all.

Following these steps will bring a little bit of peace into your life, and help you face the next day with a better and more positive perspective.

Many people are afraid to fly; that’s just a fact. It’s got more to do with letting someone else control how they get someplace, as well as the fact that once you’re up in the air there’s really nowhere or nothing else you can go or do until you get to your final destination. Unlike trains and buses, there are no short stops that give you the chance to get off and stretch before you move on again.

Other than the fear of flying, there are other problems some people have on airplanes. Here’s some of those problems, as well as ways to possibly alleviate them.

One, many people have problems with their ears popping. This can be irritating, and can give some people serious headaches. One way to overcome this is by chewing gum, which helps to fight the effects of constantly changing air pressure. Sucking on lozenges of some type, including breath mints, can also help here. Wearing sound reducing headphones, disconnected from their source of course (since the flight attendants will verify that all electronics are off), can also help if they’re the type that covers the entire ear.

Two, many people are stressed while on the airplane, for reasons already mentioned. Some of those people will result to drinking alcohol, which may not be the best idea if they have a low tolerance of alcohol to begin with. As the pressure of the airplane changes, it thins the blood, making it easier for someone to feel the effects of alcohol. If they don’t know how to stop, or control themselves, things could get messy in how you behave with other passengers and flight attendants. That’s never good for anyone.

Instead, ask for something calming, such as hot tea, or, before you fly, by something that not only will help you relax, but might help you sleep on the plane, such as melatonin.

Some people get airsick, although it seems to happen less often these days for some reason. It’s not good getting on an airplane without eating something, because you never know when there might be delays, and they won’t usually let you off the plane once you’ve gotten on, but the costs of foodstuffs on a plane have drastically jumped. However, it’s not a good thing to eat too much, or to eat rich foods that might disturb your stomach even if you weren’t getting on a plane. You never know what kind of turbulence a plane might encounter, and if you’re not a regular flyer, this could make you sick. And there’s nothing worse than sitting next to someone who’s just lost it all, even if you’re lucky enough to grab the bag in time.

While sitting on the airplane, you’re going to feel drastic temperature changes. Sometimes you’re going to be really hot, and other times you’re going to feel really cold. It can depend on a number of factors that may have nothing to do with you. It’s a good thing to always take some kind of jacket on the plane with you, a cotton warm-up jacket if you can, to help keep you warm when it gets cold. You might have to take it off if it gets too warm, and don’t forget that there’s always air above you that you can turn on to cool you down, or just to bring you fresh air. Don’t be afraid to ask the flight attendants for a blanket if you need one.

Finally, planes will dehydrate you, and you’ll feel your mouth getting dry, even if you have gum or something to suck on. When offered, always take something to drink, even if it’s just water or ice chips, unless you bring something on your own. If you get alcohol, remember that alcohol dries things out, including your body, so always get water along with it.

If you follow these tips, you’ll get to your destination healthy and feeling reasonably good.

For most of the world, we look forward to when the weather starts to warm up so that we can get outside to enjoy the warmth and good feelings of the sun. Some people can’t wait that long and decide to do tanning booths, not only to darken their skin, which they believe makes them look healthier, but to prepare their bodies for the sun that they’ll be getting a lot more of in good weather.

Although our bodies need Vitamin D, which comes from the sun, the truth is that most people have a great misunderstanding of what they need to do to protect themselves in their goal of getting tanned, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. Here are some myths that we’d like to get out of the way for you.

1. Tanning early prevents the body from being sunburned as easily. The ultraviolet light one gets from a tanning session is nothing compared to the ultraviolet rays that come from the sun. The suns ultraviolet rays can provide people with Vitamin D; they also reach the body unfiltered. The body’s ability to withstand the effects of the sun better have more to do with the amount of melanin in the body, not how brown one is via artificial methods. As a matter of fact, people who tan will end up with sunburn more often early in the season than anyone else because they believe they’ve protected their body, and hence won’t take the kinds of precautions that other people are taking.

2. If it’s not hot outside, one can’t get sunburned. If a person could withstand the cold temperatures, that person could get a sunburn if the temperatures were below freezing. What most people forget is that the sun is actually around 3 million miles closer to the earth during winter (in the southern hemisphere, you might call this your “summer”), and in the southern hemispheres, they’re sometimes known to have higher temperatures than the northern hemisphere will have during summer. It’s never about the temperature where you are; it’s about the sun and the ultraviolet rays. If you need proof, ask yourself why your car gets to warm inside, even in winter, if you leave it outside for an hour or so.

3. Having brown skin means I look healthier. Once again, this is an issue of perception more than reality. It depends on whether you attain that color naturally or not. Some people just don’t look good with skin browner than their cultural heritage naturally allows. It can be unhealthy in more ways than one. It can dry your skin. It can cause skin cancers. Something else many people don’t think about is what the suns rays can do to your eyes if you’re not wearing glasses with UV protection while you’re tanning. Too much sun or UV rays can also age your skin, making it wrinkle, or tough looking.

4. Sunscreen will totally protect me so I can stay out in the sun as long as I want to. Sunscreens come in different strengths, and of course the stronger the lotion, the more general protection it can offer you. However, there are some sunscreens that, with very intense sunlight, will actually start working against the body and skin more than on someone not wearing anything at all. Therefore, it’s very important to not subject your body to too much sun, even with sunscreen.

These are only a few myths that we’ve addressed. When it comes to the sun and tanning, always make sure to protect your body as much as you possibly can, and don’t stay in either one too long.
