<p>Most people know that exercise is &#8220;good for you,&#8221; but take that little bit of effort to put it into practice. Just 20 minutes of simple walking in the morning can tone the muscles, accelerate elimination of body wastes, clear the lymphatics, and burn calories. And circulating energy through the body makes you feel great! It has been said that there is only one weight loss diet: exercise! Although that may not be true by itself, it certainly does emphasize how a simple exercise such as walking can dramatically aid the burning of calories and keep your system tuned up.</p>

<p>Many people have become discouraged in their daily exercise by making the mistake of attempting to &#8220;go for it&#8221; after work. This strategy usually lasts for a week or two and then fades out. After work, many people have other demands such a picking up their kids, starting dinner, etc. Often, they are just plain too tired to go for a walk after work. Therefore we suggest getting up a bit earlier to allot your 20 minutes of walking BEFORE your work schedule time starts. Think of it as time that YOU deserve for yourself. Getting healthy is a privilege! As you make your walk part of your daily schedule, over time it will become second-nature.</p>

<h3><strong>Sunlight: Hormonal Stimulation</strong></h3>
<p>An added benefit of taking your 20-minute walk in the morning is SUNLIGHT. Avoid wearing sunglasses or regular glasses so that your eyes can drink in the cascades of photonic energy naturally inherent in sunlight. Natural sunlight stimulates your endocrine and immune systems and helps to balance the biological rhythms of your body. If time permits, add other exercise activities such as swimming, golf, tennis, etc. to your schedule. Make it fun!</p>
<h4><strong>Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin</strong></h4>
<p>Did you also know that you must have at least 30 minutes of unobstructed sun exposure in order to absorb adequate sunlight. Make sure not to wear any sunscreen as this will prevent the sunlight from absorbing into your skin.</p>
<p>This fat-soluble nutrient is called the sunshine vitamin. When the ultraviolet rays of the sun strike your skin, they convert a precursor to vitamin D. Vitamin D is unique because, given sufficient sunlight, your body can make all that it needs-dietary vitamin D is unnecessary. However, when coupled with too little sun exposure, a lack of dietary Vitamin D does cause a vitamin deficiency.</p>

<h3><strong>Fuel the Body with Healthy Starches</strong></h3>
<p>The second secret to permanent weight loss, or maintaining a normal weight for a lifetime, is eating starches on a regular basis throughout the day. Starches, you say, isn&#8217;t that fattening? Not only are starches not fattening, they are an excellent source of slow-burning fuel for the body. In fact, starches are the fat burners, however, you must know the right starches to  use.</p>
<p>Starches are defined as any grain, bean or potato. Delicious grains to use are oat groats, brown rice, barley, farro, quinoa, jasmine rice and buckwheat. Ideally they will be soaked and sprouted, thereby offering natural enzymes for digestion. Buckwheat is a special favorite because of its ability to calm the mind and reduce anxiety. Avoid any starches that have been boxed, processed or canned. Always look for the organic bulk or special sprouted versions by companies such as TruRoot.</p>

<h4><strong>Avoid Most Store-Bought Grains (especially packaged)</strong></h4>
<p>Most commercial, store-bought grains are grown with pesticides and typically refined (such as white flour which has had the germ, natural oils, and many nutrients removed). Long-range FDA studies have shown shocking amounts of pesticide/chemical residues in common store-bought grain products. For example, typically in 16 samples, the following pesticide/chemical residues were found: dinner rolls- 44; raisin bran cereal- 42; white flour tortillas &#8211; 34; pasta -33, muffins &#8211; 46. These toxic residues impact your health negatively over time.</p>
<h4><strong>What about &#8220;Organic&#8221; Grains?</strong></h4>
<p>Unfortunately, many organic grains are often contaminated after they are harvested with toxic chemicals while in transit or in storage. For example, &#8220;organic&#8221; rice is commonly mixed with talc which may contain asbestos impurities (as an anti-rodent deterrent) &#8211; often crippling to your digestive tract. &#8220;Organic&#8221; millet and wheat often test positive for mercury from mercury-based storage sprays used after the organic germ was harvested and put into storage. <h4><strong>An &#8220;Organic&#8221; Wheat Story: Hidden Mercury</strong></h4>
<p>One of our patients got sick after eating some organically grown grain. When our patient had the organic grain test, the test came back high in mercury residues. So he called up the organic farmer and complained. The organic farmer flatly denied using any mercury on the grain, but directed the patient to the grain-storage man, mentioning that he was the source of the mercury contamination. When the grain silo man was called, he admitted using mercury fumigants on the grain, flippantly stating that the patient could not sue him because it was perfectly legal to fumigate the grain. This story is real life; how sad that the organic grower knew that toxic fumigants would be used on his grain even though it would be sold as &#8220;organic.&#8221; This story is not the exception; fumigation is routin. Eating these contaminated grains can badly damage your health. So make sure to buy from a reputable source, which often are local, small companies with integrity still at the forefront of their business plan.</p>

<p>grain has been ground into flour, it is best to use it within 24 hours to avoid eating the oils of the grain that are gradually becoming rancid. For example, people who have an &#8220;allergy&#8221; to wheat may really be reacting to the harmful oxidation products of old, rancid ground wheat or mercury fumigants, rather then the wheat protein itself. For this reason, many people do not feel good when they eat wheat products. We have even seen that once people switched to a non-toxic, truly organic, freshly ground source, they did not have a reaction! Imagine that!</p>
<h4><strong>Eat Starches Frequently</strong></h4>
<p>It is ideal to eat starches every four to six hours during the day, especially the slow-burning, fat-burning starches (whole grains, beans and potatoes) &#8211; to keep your energy levels consistent and to avoid cravings and feeling starved! Starches are recommended at breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. If you have a very long morning schedule (six hours or more), you need to have a snack in that time period also. You want to keep your fuel-burner thermostat very consistent &#8211; and fuel your body properly to avoid big up and down energy swings. Starches provide fiber that take awhile to digest, but more importantly they provide glucose which is the only fuel that can be used by the brain for energy. So literally it is brain food!</p>

<p>During this critical time in your and your baby&#8217;s life, it is imperative that you are mindful of the food you are eating. While most woman believe this is a time to eat whatever you want and fill yourself with all those naughty things you couldn&#8217;t eat before, this couldn&#8217;t be farther from the truth. Every bite of food forms the very cells of your baby, and if you choose to eat toxic foods, you may be setting the stage for a baby with compromised health. Many issues such as asthma, ear infections, allergies, hives, skin disorders, colic, a weak immune system, ADD and other behavioral disorders have been linked to a toxic pregnancy. Therefore, by being mindful of the food you consume can greatly impact the future of your baby.</p>

<p>Sufficient protein is needed to help product a healthy baby. We recommend about 70 grams of total protein per day (about 25 grams of protein more than your normal diet). We only recommend non-toxic, plant-based sources such as raw nuts and seeds, mushrooms, <a href="http://www.healthbeyondhype.com/prl/nutritional-flakes-powder-p-62.html" target="_blank">nutritional flakes</a>, <a href="http://www.healthbeyondhype.com/prl/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&amp;search_in_description=0&amp;keyword=medi-amino&amp;x=0&amp;y=0" target="_blank">medi-aminos</a>, dark-leafy greens, <a href="http://www.healthbeyondhype.com/superstore/sunwarrior-m-3.html" target="_blank">Sunwarrior vegan protein powder</a>, <a href="http://www.healthbeyondhype.com/superstore/hemp-seeds-p-514.html" target="_blank">hemp seeds</a>, beans (either from scratch or BPA-free cans), farm-fresh and hormone/antibiotic free eggs, and the occasional organic fermented tempeh.  Do not consume conventional animal products, dairy or soy as these contain dangerously high levels of antibiotics and hormones that interrupt your natural hormone balance. As for fish, we find that the risk of heavy metal exposure has become too great, that unless you are eating small, wild fish, we suggest finding alternate sources for protein.</p>

Healthy fats also support thyroid production, which will be important for maintaining a healthy weight during and after pregnancy. Furthermore, adequate fats in the diet may prevent stretch marks, sagging breasts and mood swings. <h3><strong>What are the Main Functions of the Kidneys?</strong></h3>

<p><strong>The main function of the kidneys is that of forming urine and through that function, the body is able to maintain homeostasis</strong>. Homeostasis is the mechanism that keeps the body&#8217;s environment stable and constant which is vital to life. Through this process, the blood is able to stay clean and the body can efficiently get rid of waste while maintaining healthy fluid levels and blood pressure levels.</p>

<p>Through the formation of urine, the kidneys are able to one of the most important detoxification organs in the body. The formation of urine involves, filtration, reabsorption and secretion.</p>
<p><strong>Filtration</strong>- The kidneys filter water and dissolved substances (sodium, nutrients, glucose) out of the blood.</p>
<p><strong>Reabsorption</strong>- Water and dissolved substances are separated from waste products in the urine and then filtered back into the blood system for use.</p>
<p><strong>Secretion</strong>- Toxic waste products such as hydrogen ions, potassium ions, and drugs are secreted into the urine for excretion.</p>

<h4><strong>2. Acid/Base (pH) Balance</strong></h4>
<p>The kidneys play a primary role in maintaining acid base balance in the body by selecting which ions to retain and which ones to excrete. This allows the body&#8217;s total acid burden to be constant, as the urine&#8217;s acidity fluctuates to accommodate the balance. If the blood is too acidic, meaning that there is an excess of hydrogen ions, the kidney moves these ions to the urine.</p>
<p>The kidneys help to maintain the blood plasma at a neutral pH 7.4. <strong>By regulating the body&#8217;s pH, the kidneys help to maintain an environment, which prevents diseases from inhabiting the body and promotes the efficient functioning of all bio-systems.</strong></p>

<h4><strong>3. Blood Volume and Pressure</strong></h4>
<p>The kidneys meticulously adjust the volume and concentration of the urine to accommodate changes in the body, including variations in your daily food and beverage intake. These adjustments on whether to retain or release substances or water come from ADH (antidiuretic hormone), renin, angiotensin and aldosterone. <strong>Therefore, the kidneys are a vital component to maintaining healthy blood pressure levels. </strong></p>
<p><strong>ADH and Water Retention:</strong> When blood volume or pressure falls too low, or when the fluid outside our cells becomes too concentrated, the pituitary gland releases ADH. ADH tells the kidneys to reabsorb water and increase urine concentration. Consequently, if you are dehydrated, the kidneys will excrete less water.</p>
<p><strong>Renin and Sodium Retention:</strong> When blood pressure gets too low, an enzyme called renin is released. Renin causes the kidneys to reabsorb sodium, which causes water retention. This restores normal blood pressure and volume.</p>
<p><strong>Angiotensin and Blood Vessel Constriction:</strong> Renin also activates angiotensin, which is a powerful vasoconstrictor. Meaning it will cause blood vessels to constrict, increasing blood pressure.</p>
<p><strong>Aldosterone and Sodium Retention:</strong> When angiotensin is released, it stimulates the release of the hormone aldosterone from the adrenal glands. Aldosterone tells the kidneys to retain more sodium and therefore water, restoring normal blood pressure in the body.</p>

<p>The kidneys control the body&#8217;s water content through the &#8220;water-retaining hormone&#8221; ADH (antidiuretic hormone). If ADH is present, the body decreases the amount of urine formed and therefore less water is lost. If ADH is not present, the amount of urine formed increases, and more water is lost. This is a very delicate balancing act.</p>
<p>The control of electrolytes (salt) is monitored through the hormone Aldosterone (salt and water retaining hormone). If sodium is low, aldosterone stimulates the kidneys to reabsorb sodium, therefore increasing water reabsorption, and decreasing water lost from urine. <strong>Therefore, any dysfunction in the kidneys can cause symptoms such as water retention and edema.</strong></p>

<h4><strong>5. Waste Excretion</strong></h4>
<p><strong>The main function of the kidneys is to excrete toxins and waste products that accumulate in the blood. Therefore, the kidneys are a blood cleanser.</strong> One of their main jobs is excreting nitrogenous waste products, such as ammonia and urea, which are byproducts of protein breakdown. If the kidneys are not functioning properly, often due to high intakes of animal proteins, their ability to filter out these toxins is greatly reduced. This leads to problems such as gout and kidney stones.<br />

<h4><strong>6. Hormone Secretions and Red Blood Cell Production</strong></h4>
<p>One very important hormone produced by the kidney is called <strong>erythropoietin</strong>. It plays a key role in the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow as well as hemoglobin. <strong>It also plays a role in smooth muscle fiber proliferation; wound healing and can increase iron absorption.</strong></p>
<p>When the kidney detects that the number of red blood cells in the body is declining, it produces erythropoietin. This hormone is released into the bloodstream and goes to the bone marrow. <strong>This triggers the production and release of more red blood cells.</strong><br />

<h4><strong>7. Vitamin D Utilization and Bone Health</strong></h4>
<p>When the body comes into contact with sunlight, the UVB wavelengths react with 7-dehydrocholesterol, a precursor from cholesterol. This reaction forms the provitamin, Vitamin D3. <strong>In order for this provitamin to be utilized as Vitamin D, it must go through two reactions, one with the liver and one with the kidneys. Therefore, it is a vital job of the kidney to maintain healthy vitamin D levels in the body.</strong> Once vitamin D is activated by the kidneys, it acts as a hormone, promoting bone growth and maintenance by maintaining blood concentrations of calcium and phosphorus.</p>

<p>Hello Loyal Health Beyond Hype Community! I know it’s been a couple of months since our post update, but we have had quite a few changes since then. <strong>Many of you have probably noticed the new website. This site took us a year to build. Everything about it is brand new, and almost everything is custom-coded for our needs.</strong> This new platform will allow us to expand in the direction we want to go in to serve you all better. Keep an eye out for future newsletters, as this is where we will be making announcements about new features we add to the site.</p>
<p><strong>There are some big changes we made that I would like to mention now.</strong></p>

<li><strong>Our home page is now a “landing page”</strong> – This will allow everyone to choose what site in the HBH domain they would like to visit.</li>
<li><strong>The blue menu bar on top of each site</strong> – This menu bar is connected to every site in the HBH domain. So you can get where you want to go directly from this menu bar no matter what site you are on.</li>
<li><strong>Our new SuperStore!</strong> Due to the limitations imposed on us and all authorized distributors of PRL products online, we decided to create a store just for PRL and a store for all non-PRL products. The beauty in this system is that no matter what cart you shop in, all the products you “add to cart” will go into one cart! Although you still need to ‘login to shop’ to buy PRL products, you do not have to do this in the Superstore. Also make note of the last button in the gold menu bar in each store. It will have the name and link to the other store, so you can easily flip back-and-forth between stores when shopping.</li>
<li><strong>The last big change was our bulk discount programming.</strong> We have done away with the coupon codes and now everyone will automatically receive a bulk discount when shopping. The dollar amount to qualify and percentages are as follows…</li>

<p>Dr. Stewart’s study, titled “Delayed Effects of A-Bomb Radiation: A Review of Recent Mortality Rates and Risk Estimates for Five-Year Survivors”, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health in 1982, showed that those who were the healthiest, were the ones with the best survival rates.</p>

<p>Minimizing or entirely eliminating meat and dairy will cut down your exposure immensely. Through the process of <a href="http://www.nirs.org/radiation/radstds/radiationandanimals.pdf">bioaccumulation</a>, the higher an animal eats on the food chain, the higher the concentration of radioactive particles.<strong> This is especially harmful to us if we over consume animal protein, including fish, because the concentrations of radioactive particles will be much higher. Radioactive particles can concentrate in various kinds of tissue.</strong> For example, strontium 90, which mimics calcium, concentrates in bones causing bone cancer or leukemia. Cobalt mimics vitamin B-6 thus concentrates in the same places in the body that B-6 would go.</p>
