Our topic was “Understanding the Hormone Puzzle.” Did you have an opportunity to join us on the call?

Here’s a recap of what we discussed:

As a naturopathic doctor who’s been passionately researching and teaching breast health for the last 20 years, Dr. Kaur is uniquely qualified to discuss strategies to balance our hormones.

The truth is, our sedentary and busy lifestyle, diet, environment, and stress all contribute to hormonal imbalance. And this can lead to estrogen dominance and all the diseases related to that. This is a danger that affects everyone! What can we do to combat estrogen dominance? It’s all about reducing estrogen, which acts on our organs as well as our breast cells.

Here’s a recap of what we discussed:

• Exercise speeds up the metabolism of estrogen, as does sweating.

• A healthy liver is necessary to efficiently break down estrogen and prevent buildup.

• Regular bowel movements are vital for eliminating estrogen through the bowels. And if we’re constipated, we’re holding onto, rather than eliminating, estrogen.

• Drinking lots of water helps to flush the estrogen.

• Regular detoxification aids in breaking down and dumping estrogen. Hormonal health affects our sleep and our ability to handle stress. Even our organs take quite a beating when we suffer from estrogen dominance, especially the liver, thyroid, and adrenals.

Dr. Kaur offered some practical ways we can modify our lifestyle, diet, and stress level to better support our organs.

You’ll love her suggestions on nutrient therapy.

Did You Know?

• 75% of the people who suffer from PMS or hormonal imbalance eat more refined sugar • Constipation increases a woman’s risk of breast cancer

• Hot flashes affect 75% of North American women, but less than 10% of women in Japan, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Mexico. Learn why this is true.

• It takes about 150 hours to eliminate 90% of a body’s lifetime burden of environmental chemicals.

Check out the interview replay and the transcript of the call to listen to the wealth of wisdom from Dr. Kaur’s practical tips and strategies for supporting and replenishing our organs and bodies as we reduce our estrogen levels and balance our hormones.

And remember, there are two ways you can take advantage of these weekly content-rich teleseminars: You can join us on my LIVE teleclasses each week for FREE.

Many women suffer from sore breasts when suffering from pre-menstrual syndrome! Here’s an insert about my interview I did with Dr. Sat Dharam Kaur author of The Complete Natural Medicine Guide to Women’s Health

Sat Dharam Kaur: In Chinese medicine, they would say that’s related to liver congestion. Liver congestion is often caused by stress and the holding in of emotions. Regular relaxation is so important because relaxation helps to restore balance to the whole hormonal system.

1.That would be piece number one, to take 20 minutes a few times a day to have a nap, do some long, deep breathing, meditate, go for a walk, journal, listen to music or whatever; but to stop and sit, breathe, or tune into oneself.

That helps prevent this liver stagnation. That would be one piece. The other thing that prevents liver stagnation is regular exercise.

2.We know that exercise can inhibit breast cancer incidence by up to 60%, so if we exercise about four hours a week—at least walking or something a little bit more aerobic than walking four hours a week—it’s what we need to prevent, to some degree, breast cancer. That amount is protective.

3. Another thing is that premenstrual breast swelling can also be related to excess estrogen. Vitamin-B6 helps the liver to break down estrogen. It’s one of the key things, so we want to make sure that we have enough B-vitamins. It also can be related to low progesterone.

Progesterone is another hormone that works in conjunction with estrogen, but helps to put a brake on estrogen’s ability to cause cells to multiply fast.

That’s what estrogen does; it causes increased cell division in breast cells. Progesterone puts a halt to that. Some people have low progesterone, again, because of this environmental estrogen dominance caused by so many things in the environment.

Vitamin-B6 helps to increase progesterone, as well. The herb chaste tree berry can be used also to increase progesterone.

Those are some of the reasons that women might have premenstrual breast swelling. Another could be the adrenal hormones. There’s an adrenal hormone called aldosterone, which can be elevated when we’re under stress. That will cause us to retain water and might cause more breast swelling as well. Again, it’s related to stress.

Because of her long history as an astrologer, She initially assumed by writing as the SF Spiritual Examiner columns might be about how to best navigate current and upcoming planetary cycles. But over time she realized she mostly adored discussing how to “align with the divine,” independent of life’s endless fluctuations.

By the time she began the Examiner column in 2009, She had spent 25 years giving nearly 30,000 reading to people from all over the world. She saw that even though each situation was unique, the questions in most hearts were similar.

How do I stop worrying?

How can I know that things will work out?

How can I feel safe?

And often, why do I feel alone?

Though there are ways to look at an astrology chart or tarot cards to foretell cycles of relative ease or challenge, she felt that particular information itself could never begin to address people’s deepest need and longings.

On this call she will share Tools on how to move with the Devine principle

About Tosha Silver: She grew up in Pennsylvania thinking one day she would be a rabbi, a lawyer, or a weathergirl. But fate seemed to have other ideas. She graduated from Yale with a degree in English literature but along the way developed an obsessive, unexpected passion for metaphysics and yogic philosophy. For the past 25 years she taught many ways to align with the inner Divine.

As an intuitive and astrologer, she’s given too many readings to count over the past 30 years to folks all over the world. About 30,000. She love the utter diversity of her clientele, from the most iconoclastic to the most traditional people. Visit her website
Here’s an excerpt of the interview. We talked about How To Use Wild Herbs from Your own Back Yard To Help You Detoxify This Spring:

Dandelion: For one, it’s so plentiful and we all know that because it’s everywhere. It’s really easy to work with. We can work with it through the different seasons it’s so plentiful and we all know that because it’s everywhere. It’s really easy to work with.

We can work with it through the different seasons. In the Spring the leaves carry the majority of healing properties. In the summer all the energy is in the flower. You can use the flower recreationally more than medicinally. We’ll get to that in a bit.

In the Fall the root is where all the energy goes. It’s not to say that using the root now is not going to have benefits. It will just have less of the constituents in it than you would find in the Fall.

The reason why I love dandelions so much is because they’re accessible, especially now in the Spring when we’re moving out of that winter lethargy and we’re starting to burn off some of our fat cells and our fat stores.

At least some of us are. Our metabolism is shifting. We’re shifting gears. When those fat cells melt away, that’s where all our toxins are stored. We want to be sure that our liver is working properly and our gut is working properly, and we’re getting that stuff out. Dandelion, specifically, is very tonifying herb, so it helps the organ actions play out the way they should and need to in our bodies.

It’s a tonic. It’s a diuretic. It makes us pee a lot. It keeps our kidneys pumping and cleaning out all those metabolites that are coming out of our fat stores. It’s also what is called a cholagogue, so it helps with bile movement. Bile is important in Phase Two of liver detoxification that I touched on before. It binds those toxins in the feces and gets them out of our body.

It’s also very nutritive. It’s full of minerals such as Vitamin-A. It’s very high in Vitamin-A and chlorophyll. A lot of these are co-factors in helping us detoxify. Dandelions are good for all of those things. We can use dandelion for conditions such as arthritis, a chronic degenerative joint disease. When toxins are released in the blood and they’re looking for somewhere else to be stored, where do they go? They store themselves in our joints.

By flushing the kidneys we can help clean those joints out, essentially. Also, it’s a mild laxative and gut helper. That’s how it’s used by Native Americans. It makes us more active in the bowels so we’re getting those things out. This is where that inulin content comes in. Inulin is what I was alluding to before in terms of the root in the Spring versus the root in the Fall.

I’ve seen numbers anywhere from 2% inulin content in the root in the Spring to 40% in the Fall. Inulin is an oligosaccharide. It’s like a sort of sugar, a prebiotic that feeds the healthy gut bacteria. You’ll see a lot more of that in the Fall root. You’ll still see some now in the Spring, too. Getting into its nutrients, it has Vitamin-A, carotenoids, Vitamin-B, Vitamin-C, potassium, magnesium, zinc, manganese and choline.

Choline is a huge component of our cell walls and cell membranes. It’s involved in fat and cholesterol metabolism and transportation. It really helps transport fat away from the liver. There are a lot of good things in dandelions.

She’s also a passionate advocate for greater food self-sufficiency and seed saving.

What a treat it was to interview her this week!

She reminded us that on this fragile planet, one in seven people don’t have enough to eat. There is nothing new or mysterious about growing food; it’s just that we got distracted by depending on a system that provides such an abundance of cheap food that it became unnecessary to grow it for ourselves.

We need to break the corporate control over how we’re fed, get involved, and get back to sustainable regional food production in our own backyards. It’s easier than you think.

Did you know that gardening is the number-one leisure time activity in North America?

But most of us are not growing food. What is stopping us from simply switching what we grow in our gardens to something we can eat instead of just admire? Carolyn believes that organic gardening will ultimately feed the world, and she shares her beautiful five-year vision for greater food security.

Here’s a recap of what we discussed:

Four secrets of feeding the soil

Dirt-cheap ways to nourish the soil

Super-duper compost

The do’s and don’ts of composting

Maximum food production in minimum space with minimum time

The importance of seed-saving

Companion-planting to attract beneficial insects and repel pesky ones

Carolyn’s passionate message is that if we take care of Mother Nature, she’ll provide for us. We need to be more respectful and to take our rightful place in the cycle of life.

So whether you’re a beginning gardener or a veteran, you’ll find Carolyn’s sensible, practical advice inspiring as you learn how to cooperate with nature in your garden. You’ll want to listen to this one more than once. Check out the replay and transcript of the teleclass.

Lately I have been investing so many hours in my business that it might have been easy to neglect my diet. Thank God I can juice to get some of my nutrients VERY easily!

Juices are also a real stress reliever, so no matter what’s happening, I make the time to juice. This might seem STRANGE to some of you, but if you try it just once, chances are you’ll keep on juicing.

I can’t stress enough how keeping your menu to liquids – green juices! – in the morning is an excellent way to aid your body’s natural repair cycles.

Since our bodies are usually far too acidic, this is a good way to help flush out all the bad things and replace them with the good ones we need. So, if you thought this.

Most people hop out of bed in the morning and grab a coffee – often sweetened and thickened with cream – then look around the kitchen for more sweetness, figuring that’s the energy boost they need to start the day.

Unfortunately, for most of us, that craving for “sweet” doesn’t leave much room for vegetables.

Why aren’t we thinking vegetables instead? Perhaps it’s the stress of consuming five or more servings a day – what everyone from our doctors to the government’s food guidelines recommend! Or maybe it’s the thought of the after-effects of eating so many vegetables.

But there is a way of getting all the benefits from vegetables without feeling we have to pack a picnic basket full, or being afraid some of the harder-to-digest vegetables will have our guts in an uproar.

Juicing vegetables will help you meet your five-a-day – or more – serving requirement in a highly efficient manner. At the same time, juicing will allow your body to absorb all the nutrients you need from your vegetables.

Think of juicing as the process of “pre-digesting” your food for you.

And that’s a good thing, since most of us have a dysfunctional digestive system from years of bad diet. As a result, our system “passes” most of the nutrients as waste.

Which is really a waste of good nutrients! With juicing, the process optimizes your body’s ability to absorb nutrients. Which means you have more energy right from the get-go, and it’s easy on your digestive system.

For you carb cravers, meeting the five-a-day or more rule is very important. In fact, it’s recommended that you consume about one pound of raw vegetables per 50 pounds of body weight each and every day.

Now that’s one big stack of vegetables! Since munching on vegetables all day can get pretty boring, you’ll appreciate juicing.

One of the benefits is that you can choose from a wider variety of vegetables, because you won’t have to worry about whether you can digest them.

You can even juice vegetables you wouldn’t normally find pleasing to your palate, because mixed with several other varieties, you’re able to create your own flavours.

Juicing is all about raw foods, but it does not have to mean “no cooked foods.” Juicing simply encourages including as much raw food as possible, because these foods have so many more nutrients and enzymes than their cooked counterparts.

For example, vegetables have been found to contain 77% more B6, 86% more vitamin E and up to 40% more zinc than cooked vegetables. The fresh juice of plants is very much like the juice of our own cells.

The essential elements that may be lacking in your body’s cells – particularly the live enzymes, bioactive vitamins, minerals, trace minerals and other unknown factors – can be easily absorbed through daily fresh green juices.

The next time you clean your house, remember to cleanse your “inner house,” too, through a natural method of detoxification. You’ll improve the flow of your life immensely!

Fat Burning Detox Program: This program is a step-by-step guide for a 7-day body cleanse.

1 tablespoon dried licorice root

2 tablespoons dried burdock root

2 tablespoon dandelion root

1 tablespoon fresh chopped ginger

3 to 4 cups water

Place all ingredients into a medium sized stainless steel or glass pot, cover and bring to a gentle boil.

Immediately reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.

Remove from heat and add any leafy herbs such oat straw or red clover. Steep for 10 to 20 minutes more with the lid on if you added any extra herbs.

Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a wide mouth mason jar. Add raw honey if desired. Drink as desired, store any unused portions in the refrigerator in a covered jar.

Licorice root is an adrenal balancer which is very helpful in times of stress;

Burdock root helps to purify the blood and stimulate the liver; Dandelion root also works to stimulate the liver and purify the blood. And Ginger acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory.

Enjoy!

Jared Ramirez was our guest expert last week. The vice-president of LL’s Magnetic Clay shared his company’s decade-long commitment to provide high quality, pure, and unadulterated natural products designed to enhance wellbeing and health, as well as to address environmental toxicity

We are born into this world toxic and are exposed to environmental toxins over our lifetime that include pesticides, heavy metals, and phthalates and BPA from plastics. Studies on fetal cord blood have shown that infants are born with detectable levels of mercury, lead, cadmium, and rocket fuel in their blood, which underscores the severity of the situation.

Chemicals and heavy metals are so toxic to us because they bio-accumulate in the body, getting stored in different tissues and mimicking every disease imaginable, from multiple sclerosis to autoimmune disorders. These diseases are simply breakdowns in biological processes, biochemical reactions, and enzymatic processes in the body, which toxins have a potent antagonistic effect on. When these biochemical and enzymatic reactions are shut down, a lot of other aspects of our health break down.

Metals and chemicals block the absorption of food and supplements, which is an underlying causative factor in digestive problems, parasites, leaky-gut syndrome, allergies, depression, memory problems, and so forth. How much toxicity our bodies hang onto is determined by how functional our detox pathways are. We must find ways to eliminate that toxic matter from our bodies on a regular basis. And that’s where the clay comes in.

A gentle low-and-slow method of magnetic clay bath therapy is recommended. Why? Because the skin is a detox organ with absorption and detoxification pathways in and out. The magnetic clay draws a wide range of heavy metals, chemicals, and toxins through the lymphatic system and out through the skin.

It is much more effective to engage in a preventative detoxification protocol versus something more aggressive, like IV chelation, which is hard on the liver and creates the potential for a healing crisis. Synthetic amino acids in chelation therapy are indiscriminate in terms of what they pull out. Along with cadmium and lead, they also pull out zinc and magnesium, which are critical elements in the detox process. This depletion of essential elements could put you into serious states of deficiency.

Here are some of the other topics we covered:

Why should healthy people detox?

The key to preparing a clay bath (and it’s not what you think!).

Why it’s almost impossible to identify common symptoms of metal and chemical toxicity.

How clay bath therapy compares to the cost of traditional IV chelation treatments.

Super-recipe for natural chelation that you can make at home.

The vital role of magnesium in detoxing—how important is it?Many people assume that detoxing is something that’s done when you’re in poor health. The truth is the majority of those who actively detox do it as a means to good health rather than a remedy for bad health.

LL’s Magnetic Clay’s 100% natural detox and supportive therapies harness the earth’s natural healing properties and are a valuable addition to your health and wellness routines. Put Mother Nature to work for you!
