/>Although raspberries are consumed throughout the world, the raspberry leaf is one of those herbal remedies that not many people have heard of. This could be because it has a very narrow focus - 90% of the time it is used by pregnant women. Other ailments that may benefit from it include stomach upsets and throat infections.

Raspberry has a long history in ancient Europe and in referenced in many ancient texts, but its exact origin is unproven.

What is Raspberry Leaf?

Raspberry is now grown commercially across North America and Europe. The leaf itself is pale green and rich, and it has many vitamins and minerals.

Medicinal Uses for Raspberry Leaf

The primary use for raspberry leaf is undoubtedly during pregnancy, as it supports and strengthens the mother's body in many ways. It has a powerful combination of vitamins A, B, C, and D, plus the minerals phosphorus, calcium and potassium.

Vitamin A works by boosting the mother's immune system, at a time when the mother is particularly vulnerable. It also helps the baby to develop his/her skin and bones properly.
During pregnancy the mother's circulatory system is greatly expanded. Vitamin E helps by enabling red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body more effectively. It also promotes healing and allows the mother's body to recover more rapidly .
Calcium is another vital substance for pregnant mothers. It aids proper bone development in the baby, while regulating the mother's nerve cells and reducing pain during childbirth.
The raspberry leaf provides a wonderful natural mixture with positive and varied effects for the mother and child. Even after birth, this potent combination of vitamins and minerals helps to replace nutrients lost during the trauma of childbirth.
Aside from pregnancy, the raspberry leaf can be used as a delicate anti-inflammatory, and a soothing remedy for stomach upsets and diarrhea. It has a gentle formula that is commonly used for children. Additionally it is orally taken as a mouthwash to calm mouth and throat infections.

Other Uses for Raspberry Leaf

Certainly raspberries are eaten and consumed throughout the world, however the raspberry leaves are used minimally and for little else besides pregnancy. Traditional uses for raspberry in European cuisine can include wine, vinegar and brandy.

How Do You Take Raspberry Leaf?

The Raspberry leaf is often consumed through a tea or an infusion. Allow approximately one ounce of the dried raspberry leaves for every two cups of tea. It can be consumed hot or cool and, with many patients drinking it cold for stomach problems and throat infections.
It is thought that the raspberry leaf could lower blood sugar levels; diabetics should avoid it. In addition, although it is useful for pregnancy, it has not been tested on young children, so breastfeeding mothers should take vitamin supplements.
Always consult your doctor before beginning a course of herbal treatment.

Benefits of Burdock

Burdock is a variation of thistle that is grown widespread all over England and Scotland, however less so in other parts of Europe. It is such a convenient form of exercise which can be carried out anywhere and anytime of the day!

THE 10,000 STEPS RULE
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) say you should take at least 10,000 steps a day to gain the benefits of walking. That is around five miles day. Here are some tips on how to get more walking into your daily routine.

1. WALK WHENEVER YOU CAN
If you need to run a few errands, why not walk to get them done if they are within walking distance? You can burn around 60 calories in 15 minutes when you walk at a moderate pace, and about 70 at a brisk pace. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator and park at the rear end of the car park at work or mall and take advantage of that added distance! These may seem like small tasks, but those extra steps will definitely benefit you.

2. GET A PEDOMETER
Keep track of all of the steps you manage take with a low-cost pedometer...they can be fun too!A recent study by Stanford University reports that those people who use pedometers and set daily goals walk much more than people who don’t.

3. MOVE TO THE MUSIC
Some research showed that medium-tempo/speed music can keep you motivated through your walk so when you get to do some walking, put your headphones in and listen to your favorite play list. Try a podcast workout and get advice from a trainer and instructions along with your music. Great fun!

4. GET A GROUP
See if your friends are up for it to help you get through the toughest times. We all know there is nothing better then the company of our nearest and dearest to support you through a tough workout. Meeting just once a week motivates you more than having to so it solo. Grab your mates and start up your mega walking group, and keep adding to the list. You're not only helping yourself but others too.

5. WALK FOR A CAUSE OR CHARITY
Look out charity walks like The Breast Cancer 3 Day which is a 60-mile walk over a duration of three days that raises money for breast cancer research. Check out 'The Walking Site' for more events through the year. It's just as easy to find events if you use Google.

Saffron Spice Prevents People Going Blind

Experts in Australia and Italy have claimed that the Aromatic Saffron Herb (also known as an antioxidant) which gives curry its yellow colour can prevent blindness in the elderly (University of Sydney). In a trial study, volunteers were given a pill that contained the spice for a three month period. Results showed that there were 'significant improvements' in their vision. This spice may hold the answer in preventing sight loss in the elderly. When they were tested with traditional eye charts, a few individuals could read one or two lines smaller than before the research was carried out. Others stated they were able to read newspapers and books with ease.

Studies also showed that the spice protects eyes from damage caused by bright sunlight - this has also been the result when tested on animals.

The test carried out in Italy involved giving individuals a Saffron Pill (for a duration of three months) and a placebo tablet for a further three months. A second group took the same pills in reverse order. All subjects made improvements with their vision, however those improvements disappeared when they had stopped taking the saffron pill (Professor Bitsi).

Her theory is that the herb contains genes that can regulate fatty acid content of the cell membrane which makes the vision cells more resilient and stronger. It also contains properties that encourage oxygen flow and prevents cell death.

More research for longer periods are being conducted to discover more about the herb and how it works with its ability to treat diseases of the eyes (such as retinitis pigmentosa).

Sitting Down Too Long Causes Health Problems

Research shows that sitting down for too long, or being inactive can cause health problems, even if you exercise.

Recent research suggests that being inactive for too long causes health problems; increasing the chances of heart disease and diabetes no matter how often someone works out, or exercises. Researchers do admit that the understanding of this research is not fully understandable as to why sitting down for long periods can increase these chances of developing health problems.

A study found that the chances of developing metabolic syndrome which can lead to diabetes rose by 26 percent for every extra hour a woman sat down watching television despite the amount of exercises she did. Doctors suggest that the only way of to cut the chances are to reduce the amount of time spent inactively (Karolinska Institute/Swedish School of Sport and Health Science in Stockholm) Simple changes can be made, for example walking around the office during work hours, or taking the stairs instead of the lift. These are just as important as exercising and can make a difference if done for five minutes during sedentary work.

They warn that chemical reactions are triggered in the body when being inactive for too long cannot be cancelled out by doing more exercises.

An article published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine says that future focus in clinical practice should not only promote exercise but to encourage people to continue to maintain their levels of daily activities that concern movement and exercise.

12 Popular Herbal Remedies

There are many reasons as to why more and more people are turning to herbal remedies. We all know when we are feeling stressed out, it is natural for our body to tell us. We feel angry, we have high emotions and often take it out on other people that are close to us. We can find it hard to eat, sleep, work, and even continue with our daily life routines.

The causes of stress can be anything from pressure from work or school, financial difficulties, bereavement,, unemployment, Marriage, and many other things such as social pressure, bills, and trying to multi0task with pressure from work and home life can most definitely cause a cloud of emotions.

Experts say that "Tulsi" as it is called in India is a natural remedy for stress. Holy Basil is known as the queen of herbs, known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents but most well known for relieving stress levels. Holy Basil is different from the normal Basil. It is different in taste and smell. Holy Basil comes in a red or green colour, and tastes a little like cloves. It is also spicier than normal Basil. Most of scientific experiments with Holy Basil has only been conducted on animals, but it most defiantly is a cultural remedy.

It has been popular in native India for many centuries within the Hinduism religion, used for all types of bodily conditions and represents the alignment of the mind and spirit, healing the mind, body and spirit.

Holy Basil is scientifically know as "Ocimum Sanctum". Adding this into your daily life routine by putting a little in your tea. It comes as a liquid extracts that can be dropped into juice tea or water, or a liquid capsule. Not only can it help with stress, it also helps your immunity levels and gives you some protection against other serious bodily complications. It can effectively help the body's response to deal with the stress coming in.

Holy Basil was found the most successful and safest (in terms of consuming it everyday and patterned use) for acting against stress levels tested with Asian Ginseng and Siberian Ginseng in the Indian Journal of Pharmacology in 1991.

Holy Basil can also deal with slow memory functions, the common cold, fevers, headaches, coughing, sore throat, excess of phlegm in the throat, mouth infections, respiratory problems (asthma, lung conditions), kidney stones, heart disorders/diseases, bug bites, eye skin or teeth disorders.

Please remember to ask your doctor of which herbal remedies are suitable for your body to use.

Green Tea Might Block Lung Cancer

Recent studies in Taiwan show that Drinking Green Tea may offer some protection against lung cancer. Growing evidence suggests that the beverage has anti-cancer powers. The study was conducted and results showed that both smokers and non-smokers who drank at least one cup of Green Tea a day reduced the risks of lung cancer. However, cancer experts continue stressing the facts of smoking- it is still bad for your health. The protection of the Green Tea worked best for those with a certain gene. It is the extracts from green tea, called polyphenols which can stop cancer cells from growing.

Green tea is widely drank in Asia. It is made from dried leaves of the Asian plant "Camellia sinesis". The rates of many types of cancers are much lower in Asia than in other parts of the world, which has led some to link the two together.

Results at the Oxford Based Research Group have had different results; it was published that 51 studies were conducted on Green Tea and cancer, including 1.5million people which concluded that Green Tea is safe to drink (in moderation) but conflicts the result that it can prevent cancer (July 2009).

Dr I-Hsin Lin of Shan Medical University, found that among non-smokers, those people who did not drink green tea were more than five times as likely to get lung cancer than those who drank at least one cup of green tea a day.Among smokers, those who did not drink green tea at all were more than 12 times as likely to develop lung cancer than those who drank at least a cup a day.

Researchers also analysed the DNA of those individuals in the study; certain genes appeared to play a role in the risk reduction of lung cancer and Green Tea.Green tea drinkers no matter if they were smokers or non smokers, with certain types of a gene called "IGF1" were far less likely to develop lung cancerthan other green tea drinkers with a different type of this particular gene.

Yinka Ebo, of Cancer Research UK, said this is not an excuse to continue to smoke. To reduce the risks of lung cancer and many other types, the best way is to stop smoking completely.

Prevent Cold and Flu

12 simple ways to prevent the flu virus. These routines will help keep away germs and bugs invading your life especially in the winter.

1. Wash your hands at least twice a day - two times. Washing your hands with anti-bacterial soap helps kill germs that you cab be carrying on your hands, transferred from other surfaces.

2. Vitamin C, Echinacea and Zinc daily - these are cold prevention supplements; Certain vitamins can boost your immune and defense systems, so make sure you have a regular intake of the main ones.

3. Eat protein rich foods - For example Salmon. Make sure you are eating well to boost your immune system.

4. Drink plenty of fluids - water and natural juice drinks to allow the body to function properly

5. Add pro-biotic to your daily diet - For example yogurts.

6. Use towels/tissue on handles/faucets - the worst thing is using public toilets and using doors and locks that other people have used - but lets face it some people don't wash their hands. To make sure these germs don't pass to you, use a tissue to open doors.

7. Get a flu shot - although medical treatment is fast acting, there are natural ways to help your body with the flu.

8. Try to do some Yoga or Meditation to reduce stress. Stress is one of the major start-offs for colds and flu. When your body feels stressed, it is less able to defend itself against viruses.

9. Microwave toothbrush and replace it monthly - microwave your toothbrush for 10 seconds to kill any germs

10. Allow fresh air into the home - germs won't be able to settle and the air will be fresh inside your home, living and sleeping rooms creating fresher air to breathe.

11. Get plenty of sleep - having enough sleep can help your body's immune and defense system fight off any viruses when you are inactive and gives your body a well needed break.

12. Clean surfaces regularly with anti-bacterial spray to make sure germs and viruses do not harbour for too long.

The Benefits of Ginger

Benefits of Ginger

Lots of Ginger (also know as Zingiber Officinale) in your diet can prevent future body pains and can be used to help lessen many ailments. Ginger is used in cooking by Asian cultures as well as a medicine. Ginger can be used for Nausea and stomach aches - usually to do with pregnancy, post surgical symptoms, chemotherapy after-affects and motion sickness. Many American dietary supplements do contain ginger for its nausea and vomit relief.

Ginger has also been used for treating rheumatoid arthritis and other muscle and joint pains. It can come as a pill/tablet, capsules, tea, liquid, extract, dried roots, or fresh roots.

Further research may show that Ginger can prevent and help inflammation. However so fat, the research shows that taking small doses of ginger can help gas, bloating, nausea, and heartburn. Dr. J. Rebecca Liu (University of Michigan's Medical School Assistant professor of Obstetrics) claims that in recent emerging research, Ginger can be a big help to preventing it. Ovarian cancer becomes resistant to chemotherapy after recurring. If the Ginger herb can cause autophagic cell death as well as apoptosis it may circumvent the resistance to conventional chemotherapy. The fact that Ginger lacks side effects is great news, compared to the side affect of medical treatment which has many side effects. More research needs to be carried out in order to draw things forward in regards to cancer.

There are many ways to implement ginger in your diet, you can have it with sushi, gingerbread cookies/biscuits, chicken soup, or salad dressings.

Benefits of Grapes

Benefits of grapes

The power of grapes- a few benefits that you can gain from havin grapes in your diet and as skin remedies.

1.
