Iced tea is basically is from of cold tea served in a glass with ice. Iced tea is a very refreshing beverage especially during summer. It is a very healthy alternative to those sugar packed canned sodas. This is one of the most beloved package drinks and you get both the sweetened version and the unsweetened. The best part of iced tea is you can mix it with flavored syrup of your choice and just make an awesome drink that suits your taste and mood. Few flavors that are well paired with iced tea are lemon, peace, raspberry, lime, passion fruit and cherry. Not only different fruity flavors are added to make this tea delicious but many infused different herbs to make it healthier. Some people call this “sun tea” may be because of its bright color. I think you will get iced tea in almost every part of the world. In Austria you will get heavily sweetened iced tea commonly known as Eistee and in Italy you will get peach and lemon flavored iced tea, but if you are in Switzerland you will get herbal tea with peppermint flavor. Lemon flavor ice tea is most common so today we are sharing how to make lemon flavored iced tea and I am sure you will enjoy this in a warm day.
sugar or to taste

    5 to 6 fresh
    mint leaves

Cooking Directions

Boil two glass of water then add ½ tsp of tea powder (for this you can use traditional black tea or green tea) add sugar and let it boil for 2 minutes. Then strain the tea with a tea strainer. Add lemon juice to it. Mix well. Sweetness is a matter of taste but sometimes the tartness of lemon demands bit more sugar so adjust according to your taste. Now cool it and then put it in a refrigerator until completely chilled before serving. Now take a serving mug filled it with ice cubes, lemon wedges and then fills the glass with chilled iced tea. Top the iced tea with few fresh mint leaves.

The Honey Thief is a lyrical, magical fable set over the last 200 years in Afghanistan, featuring ordinary people facing up to astonishing extremes. Told by native Afghani Najaf Mazari (who fled Afghanistan in 2001 for Australia, where he now lives with his wife and daughter) to writer Robert Hillman, it is a snap shot of the Hazara people - a minority group that still lives in a rocky hills between Kabul and Kandhar. This amazing book , present a enchanting portrait of people who rejoice with intelligence and humor over the oppression of political dictators and an unforgiving landscape.

A narrative of interlinked stories rooted in fact and laced with magical realism, The Honey Thief centers on an engaging cast of characters. There’s the grief –stricken boy who finds his way back to happiness by apprenticing himself to a master beekeeper a musician capable of conjuring stones to rise in to air with the beauty of his playing teaches his art to a mute child; and a young man who wins the heart of a scornful beauty by reading to her from the The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn. There’s Abdul Kaliq, the teenager who killed a king; the Englishman named Dobara, who comes to Hazafajat to take photograph of snow leopard; Konrad ( half German, half Hazara) who sings “Billie Jean” while blazing through war zones on his motorcycle. Being a food blogger and passionate foodie I love the lighthearted funny final part most “The Cookbook of the Master Poisoner Ghorooh – e –astab of Mashad” , where we are introduced with his recipe for poisoned stew Khoresht Aaloo which is followed by several less lethal Hazara dishes. I like most Boulanne which are delicious Afghan pasties and Chelo Nakhod which need above all a chicken but a fat and happy one to make a real delicious dish. I love to share a wisdom from The Honey Thief with my foodie friend that if you want to enjoy the dishes then enjoy the preparation too. When you eat them you can feel proud that these are from my own hand. “ If we are to enjoy food, let it be an enjoyment we earn.”

In a passionate poetic wit and profound simplicity The Honey Thief reveals an unseen Afghanistan to rest of the world, that which is rich, vibrant and full of life. Afghanistan is not of failure and despair, but of resilience and fulfillment. I think The Honey Thief is a charming book and must read for everyone to know the triumph of human spirit over death and destruction.
May all the joys of this glorious season Be yours. Happy Easter!
Easter means lots of calorie going in and if you want your Easter to be healthy yet delicious then try this fruity nutty egg salad. I have used red spinach in this recipe you can use regular spinach if red is not available to you.But you can look for it in the farmers market as spring is the best time for this. Red spinach has sweet green flavor and delicate texture. It is very low in calories, good source of vitamin C, vitamin A,plus iron and other essential minerals.Red spinach paired well with egg, bacon, spring vegetable nuts and fresh cheese. In this recipe I use all that go well with red spinach and use the flavor of garlic which mingle very well with red spinach. Simple yet appetizing salad. A great celebration dish if well presented can make your Easter dinning a shinning and happy experience.

Food mags and cook book are no exception though lot are there online but I like to keep them as collectibles……sound crazy….can’t help life without a good dash of colorful deliciousness life seems to be so bland ….I get depressed in no time. So when I get the book Save By Cake from international best selling author Marian Keyes, her chatty, witty style of writing with chock full of great baking advice, delicious recipes and drool worthy pictures (by Alistair Richardson), catch my attention. The book itself is a joy to behold. In Saved by Cake, Keyes provides and extremely candid account of her recent battle with depression, and her discovery that learning to bake was exactly what she needed to get through each day. Marian find that baking helps to pass the time. In Marian words “ To be perfectly blunt about it, my choice sometimes is: I can kill myself or I can make a dozen of cup cakes.” With chapters on cupcakes, cheesecakes, meringues and macaroons, chocolate cakes and other classics, her recipes are aimed firmly at the beginners or like me who lack confidence when it comes to baking and create some kitchen disaster, but she in a refreshingly honest and wickedly funny style offer hints, tips and suggestions that even a first timer can’t resist to try a hand on this beautiful easy recipes.

Each and every recipe from this book is a keeper but as you all know we all have our personal choices and when it comes to the nutrient rich red balls … I mean beetroot…..who can stop me…..so beet cake come as first in my top fav list following cranberry macarons….but cranberry sauce is not always handy in my place so I will go with mango which I think will be great in coming summer months and then comes the No- bake ginger and Lime cheese cake...mouthwatering combo of spicy heat of the ginger snaps with a sharp tang of lime....simply irresistible. Marian is truly blessed by the food fairy to bring such awesome baking delight in this wonderful book.

Baking books comes out every now and then. Yet Marian Save by Cake stand out for it’s
extremity. Cake or die.Hat’s off to her clarity and courage. In a humorous style she share such amazing recipes which can lift the spirit and satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

This book can be a perfect gift for the beginners and even the expert baker, it can be a keeper for someone who don’t love baking but ardent fan of Marian, or for someone who need a cuddle in a book.
I am a little health freak but sometimes when it comes to eating baby potatoes I can’t stop my carving. Though known for long as devils food recently it is blessed with a study which says that new potatoes has only 26 calories and is packed with nutrients. This is a key to lasting weight loss as eating potato will keep you feel full for longer says Dr. Jacquie Lavin, an eminent doctor for Slimming World. As potato is complex carbohydrate it is good during hunger pangs and thus control eating binge.Potatoes are also rich source of Vitamin B, folate and minerals such as potassium magnesium and iron. Potatoes are underground tuber, meaning they store all the vitamins and minerals needed for growing new potato in spring.Norwich Food Research Institute have found that potatoes have some blood pressure lowering molecules called kukoamines. The Agricultural Research Service in Navarre, America has identified 60 different kinds of phyto chemicals and vitamins in potato skins. Many of these are flavnoinds, which protect against cardiovascular disease by lowering the levels of bad cholesterol and keeping arteries fat free. When I get to know so much about this baby delights I can’t stop myself to make an awesome dish which is easy yet tasty. I keep the skin on to get the full benefit. Pair spicy cheesy baby potatoes with smoked salmon or chicken or have it just like a snacks. I hope that you all will like it.

Steamed egg is a very delicious and healthy preparation and can be taken anytime, take as breakfast, lunch or dinner , it just rocks. Steamed egg is very popular in Chinese cuisine, it is a Chinese home-style dish found all over China. Not only in China it is also popular in Japan and Korea.I am sure you baked, poached, fried eggs number of times but if you haven't yet tried steamed egg then give it a try. I didn't use the authentic Chinese or Korean style but this is a fusion style. I love this and hope you will love it too.

    to taste
    salt and pepper

Cooking Directions

Take a bowl beat two eggs. Add water or chicken stock ( chicken stock used in this recipe used make this recipe more soft and fluffy). Beat well. Then add all the ingredients.

Mix well. . Then pour the whole mixture into a greased dish or ramekin mold. Sprinkle generously cheese over it. Now cover and steam until the egg is fully cooked and firm and cheese is melted. Your steamed egg is ready. I think you can have this healthy meal anytime of the day. For those who are weight watching can skip cheese if you want. It will taste great even without cheese but with cheese it is just awesome. Try and love it.
Cream of pea soup is a very yummy comfy soup during winter months.I was watching a cookery show where Chef Sanjeev Kapoor one of the most well known celebrity chef from India was showing this soup.It looks scrumptious so I take no time to make it.I improvised the recipe by adding fresh cream and dried basil as the fresh is not available to me but truly speaking it taste awesome. Fresh green peas is also good for health as it's low in fat and full of protein, fiber and micronutrients. Help in anti-aging, strengthen immune system and full of energy. So for me cream of pea is one I love any time and I am sure if you try once it will soon be in your fav list. Give a try and let me know.
You can add more milk if you want a little less thick consistency. Adjust seasoning. Now add fresh cream mix and put off the flame. Serve hot with your favorite bread croutons.

Chocolate Topping

I use double boiler to melt the chocolate. Pour a few inches of water into a large saucepan and place a small pan on it so that base sits in the water. Put the dark chocolate in the smaller pan and bring the water to a low boil.Once the chocolate starts to melt, add in butter, milk and sugar and keep stirring until everything combines well. The mixture will start to froth up and thicken at one point, that's when you switch off the flame. Then add the orange extract . Mix well. Let it cool for 15-20 minutes.

Once both cake and the chocolate topping cool down. Now place the cake on a serving plate. Spread the chocolate topping well on the top of the cake. Now garnish with orange wedges and cadbury gems.
