<p> One crucial component to any workout schedule is including interval training  . Without interval training, competitive runners would hit a  plateau and stop getting any faster, and people trying to lose weight  would reach their own plateau where no more pounds will be willing to  come off.</p>
<p><strong>So what is interval training</strong>?</p>
<p>According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, fourth definition, an interval is &#8220;<em>one of a series of fast-paced exercises interspersed with slower ones or brief rests for training (as of an athlete)</em>.&#8221;  Intervals can be practiced across sports, but in running an interval  workout is any workout where you run for a specified distance or time at  a specified pace with a specified amount and type of rest.</p>
<p> Running between 90 and 110% of your own pace are what most intervals consists of  <strong></strong>. Some workouts will call for running slower or even faster than that. <strong>Your race pace in any given workout could be for any distance</strong>.</p>
<p> You can determine what interval workouts are best for you once you have determined your running goals  . If  your goal race is a 4 hour marathon, then you might run mile intervals  between 8:30 pace and 10 minute pace. If your goal is a 4 minute mile,  then you might run 400 meter intervals between 54 seconds and 66  seconds.</p>
<p>An interval effort is relative to your level of fitness,  your goals, and what race pace you are currently working towards. You  may even mix up your training, and do your shorter distance intervals at  your 5k race pace and your mile or two mile intervals at your marathon  race pace.</p>
<p> having a proper plan is very important with any interval workout plan  . Interval workouts are rarely just  an all out effort to exhaust yourself with. Instead, you should be  training your body to run at a specific level of effort or a specific  pace.</p>
<p>The advantage of an <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPc0ol5YmWE" target="_blank">interval training</a> workout is that it allows for  rest throughout the workout so that you have a chance to recover from  each repeat at your goal pace. If you structure your workout correctly,  you&#8217;ll finish the run feeling invigorated rather than exhausted.</p>
<p>If you do <em>not</em> structure your workout well, then you may feel tired, lethargic and  apathetic after the workout . You may not want to run again. You may have  trouble recovering from the run which could lead to an injury in a  future workout.</p>

<p>At the moment we all seem to be putting on weight, no matter how much we try to exercise and lose those excess pounds. I think one of the main reasons is because we tend to comfort eat. Eating is enjoyable and more often than not it is relaxing, we enjoy the flavors of the food we are eating, and we enjoy the rush of sugar we get when we eat something like a doughnut or a chocolate bar (plus chocolate actually gets our brain to release chemicals that make us feel good).</p>
<p>Unfortunately as we find it pleasurable to eat things, then when we have something go wrong in our lives, or we have a really bad day at work, then a lot of people will turn to food to comfort them and that means you are eating a lot of extra calories. We all have our own coping mechanisms to help us deal with all the stress we experience in our modern lives, these are things we learnt as we were growing up and that is why some people do comfort eat and others don&#8217;t seem to need to. So that means if your partner never seems to eat when they are stressed then maybe you realize they always go to the gym, that is their coping mechanism.</p>
<p>Other people will go and talk with friends, or do Pilates, watch a funny film, even build model railways, these are the things which comfort us and help us deal with life. What this means is that you can&#8217;t just try and force yourself to stop comfort eating, you have to find something else to help you deal with the stress first or you won&#8217;t be able to stop.</p>
<p>The first thing you need to do is keep a food journal, monitor what you eat and when you think you are comfort eating, that will help you both notice when you are doing it, and allow you to plan things that can replace it. Say you find that lunch time at work is the worst for you because you have a stressful meeting every morning or something like that, well at lunch then you can go for a walk instead, the fresh air and change of environment will help clear your head and relax you.</p>
<p>Or maybe the evening is the worst time for you as you are dreading the next day at work, in which case you could try something like meditation to relax you and clear your mind. I know most people would hate the thought of doing that, but they are just suggestions, the key is to find things that you enjoy doing so you can cut out all those extra calories.</p>
