The social in social justice.

I am fortunate enough to be amongst brilliant minds when I am mingling with those in the industrial relations field. I have been told that the industrial relations crew are a wild bunch.

Last night I went to the Action for Real Change delegates dinner inside a huge (it's own comedic value) photo booth.

Love, for now readers

my ostensible purpose is to write this blog post..

2014-06-05T02:16:00.002-07:00

But my goal is to find myself...

Readers, I have neglected this blog and feel it is contrary to my welfare. I will be moving to Brisbane, shortly. This means I will have new content for a plethora of entries.

I have also been presented with an opportunity where decorating my room is my responsibility once again. Having such free range and limited funds, all I can think of is buying many matte black (or gold?) frames and filling them with screen shots from Wes Andersen films. I do not have much understanding of my heritage or background, so instead of portraits of long deceased relatives I will have my favourite fictional characters adorn my walls.

I want to escape into an enchanting world where introverts and quirkiness is magnified and celebrated. As such my room will be an ode to that magic world that Wes Anderson conjures up in his films.

I will try to keep up with my posts.. goodnight dear readers..

600 metre long lake on Middle Island, the largest of the islands that make up the Recherch Archipelago off the coast of Esperance, in Western Australia. It is an 8 hour drive or 2 hour flight from Perth.

Salt loving algae Dunaliella, Salina and Halobacteria are the main suspects in the investigation into the rose coloured water.

Kisses for now, from beautiful Australia..

Straya Day

2014-01-26T04:45:00.000-08:00

We strayed from the beaten track of traditional Australia Day activities and decided not to do a BBQ and get sunburnt under our scorching Australian Sun. We were kissed by the freezing cold climate control inside the Gallery of Modern Art and saw the exhibition by Cai Guo-Giang (tsai gwo-chang). The exhibition is named 'Falling Back to Earth'... http://www.qagoma.qld.gov.au/exhibitions/current/cai_guo-qiang

Then as we said our goodbyes to beautiful Brisbane we were graced with fireworks.

it was a john lennon, kind of night..

2013-12-13T18:48:00.001-08:00

My thursday night started at the gun shop cafe, in west end. Twas my first ever staff christmas party. http://thegunshopcafe.com/ The whole night had a john lennon feel to it. We talked politics and feminism, peace and love.

THE SCENE: Imagine a deceiving little cafe shop front. With a hidden away outside area out the back. We were seated on an elevated long table and it had a homey atmosphere. The table was thick wood, dishes were all served on mismatching coloured plates.

THE FOOD: Oysters, bread soaked in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Scallops and creamy, sticky risotto with gingerbread ice cream to finish it off.

I had smart women, quick wits and delicious food all around me...

I had a quiet moment of reflection after a bumble bee haphazardly landed on an abandoned and forgotten entree plate.. The bumble bee lazily wandered around and I adored him. Once noticed by everyone else. The topic of conversation went to bees and interesting facts, about bees were swapped..

"When a queen bee has lived her odd 6 years of life little larvae are given extra nutrition and care producing 10 or so contenders for the revered position.. The strongest "princess" bee instinctually murders her competition to arise the victor and future sovereign.."

Many apple ciders in jam jars later. Weary cheeks from smiling and laughing.. We travelled home.. The taxi home had us singing the chorus to war is over "AAAANNND soOOOO this is Xmas.... What have YOUUUUU done...? "

We flew amongst the many lights reflected up at us as we drove alongside the Brisbane river through kangaroo point and then magically across the Story Bridge.. Life is grand, dear readers.

Happy Christmas (War is Over) by John Lennon

And so this is christmas.. What have you done?
Another year over

And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

For weak and for strong

For rich and the poor ones

The road is so long.

And so happy Christmas

For black and for white

For yellow and red ones

Let's stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

And what have we done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

War is over over

If you want it

War is over

Now...

my dream job.. and the "H" word...

2013-10-18T22:11:00.000-07:00

Ok, here is a snapshot into how my life has changed since getting my dream job and using the H word. The "H" word or happy, is a scary word for me, dear readers. I am such a cynic (because of bad breakups, bad luck and bad jobs) and using the H word for me is rare.. When people ask about my life, I tend to stick with "ok" and "everything's good" or I emit lame non-committal sounds .

I steer clear of saying the jinxed word "happy".

I dare to say, that the universe has renewed my faith in it, and in myself. I feel as though I can tentatively say.. I am happy. Ok now for some of some snapshots over the last couple days..

I get off the train at Central Station in the middle of Brisbane. Walk past Soupa, where the girls are super sweet. I get a Vanilla Marshmallow Cappuccino and always a little surprise to start my day off :)

Part of our organisation giving accurate industrial advice, involves training. I have been involved in some amazing training. Such as being down at the Anti-Discrimination Commission of Queensland for a course on the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Me at work, at my desk.

This was my table setting for attending the annual Industrial Relations Society of Queensland's high tea put on by IRIQ - Industrial Relations Consulting Firm.

Amongst the leading industrial relations elite was Deputy President Ingrid Asbury of the Fair Work Commission. Beautifully spoken woman, all class and inspirational. Advice that Commissioner Asbury gave young women starting out in industrial relations that resonated with me.. "Don't be afraid to make mistakes, I have made many in my career, and I have learnt from them. Don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone and ask questions. Let whatever direction your career pushes you in, let the direction take you".

Chambord lime and Soda after work with colleagues at the Fox Hotel in South Brisbane.

I live in the beautiful beachy Gold Coast and work in the trendy centre of Brisbane City. I have my dream job and I feel as though life is only getting better.. I will never again deviate from what I want in life, do not stick with a mediocre job, readers! I have stayed true to what I want and that has been rewarded.

I know my dream job would be some kind of cowgirl driving the Kharma bus but this job is as close as I am going to get.

Thursday's child has far to go..

2013-10-16T22:12:00.001-07:00

A post about travelling.

Be inspired dear reader, its time for a weekly inspirational dose of random pictures. This week I picked travel and included a memoir about my train ride from the Gold Coast to Brisbane...

Kayangan Lake, Philippines.

I am writing to you on the train 730am Wednesday morning, from the Gold Coast to Brisbane on a wi-fi enabled carriage. I need to explain my chipper mood, I have my dream job, which makes my long years of ~~imprisonment~~ service at the institution called Griffith University seem worth it. I now see my ~~sentence~~ graduation date as a real thing.

Fiji Islands.

I am a quitter. This is not a secret dear readers. The only thing that I quit that was a good thing, was pack a day smoking. But my other premature project abandonments, are embarrassing. For example...My study looks like I am really crafty! TRUTH IS IT IS A graveyard of unfinished business ideas... Ugh! going in there is beginning to really stress me out. Thus, my little seat and area on the train has become my blog office for the next 45 mins.

Biking in Amsterdam.

I am such a people watcher, readers. And lamely enough, a shoe watcher. Shoes are the real workers of the human world. BAM! Pixar movie called "shoes"! Think about it, old leather shoes that have seen years of service, white socks in mary janes, that are prissy and girly, thongs the traditional Australian choice, with thick Aussie accents, Ballet shoes as control freaks. The villain could be some company ~~(Crocs)~~ that wants to make shoes obsolete, that promises humans comfort and only other shoes realise that they are hideous and evil.

I also love glancing at the different people on the train on their different journeys. People off to Brisbane to explore, to work. There is a man sleeping on his shoulder with his coffee canister being held lovingly on his lap with both hands intertwined. A beautiful girl reading one of Lauren Conrad's memoirs (she's engaged now isn't she the beetch). The bags are impressive also. Oroton, Collette Hayman, my Burberry, canvas bags of various proficiency.

Eiffel Tower, Paris.

Alright, enough about this train ride. People are beginning to wonder about my incredible interest in them. I hate that awkward moment when people look at you, when your looking at them. Looking up is the worst option! I tend to blink and move my head this is to confuse them into thinking that I was just blinking in their direction, not looking at them! Gosh! Yes readers this is a common situation for me.. Judge me! I asked for it by divulging this.. haha

Some of my favourite moments on the train has been listening or chiming into conversations people are engaged in. I heard one man say "the only course he likes is a racecourse". I have also seen a man wearing ladies diamond rings on all his fingers, laughing. Not even real laughing, just laughing dramatically for at least 30 mins. This concludes this post. Move on with your life.

Kisses for now, dear readers.

♥ Maleficent - 2014 Disney movie ♥

2013-10-11T17:34:00.001-07:00

Get cray cray.. So you all know Sleeping Beauty - 1959, Aurora, true love's kiss the spell shall break, those delightful fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, swoon worthy Philip, the owl dancing in his clothes, the incredible song "once upon a dream" etc. etc.. Disney has decided to alter the fairy tale and bring us (the generation that grew up on Disney) 'Maleficent' - evil has a beginning.

For those who just lost it! Angelina Jolie (the gorgeous creature) will be playing the evil sorceress. Elle Fanning as Aurora. Filming began in June 2012 and is set to be released March 2014. #cantevenhandleit

This is the untold story of what made Maleficent's heart harden, turn her to darkness and curse the young princess.

To me Angelina Jolie is stunning when she is hurt or crazed (Girl, Interrupted). She is the absolute perfect person to play the sultry, magnificent role of a fierce sorceress.

I have always gravitated towards the villains in the Disney movies, I have always wanted them to find peace (albeit not at the death of our heroes).

They usually have such power, such commanding strength and they are striving towards righting an injustice they have experienced. We are taught there is no such thing as evil. People need to be given a chance, that if your having a bad time and its your reality, you just need to explain it. For example, my tears of frustration when something as mundane as fixing a sentence is interrupted because my mac (dinosaur old) won't respond, turns into me hating my boyfriend about leaving a cup on the bench. That's why we all loved Wicked. That's why we love Once Upon A Time.

IMDB LINK TO INFO

Don't deny it, we relate to villains.. We all know what it is like to feel misunderstood and murderous rage or vindictive plot planning at the smallest things. I will keep you updated with whatever I find about this movie. Kisses for now, dear readers.

ballet skirts.. and pastel hair..

2013-10-05T22:05:00.002-07:00

Effortlessly pretty.. I love being able to throw on an outfit and it be deliciously simple and gorgeous. Ballet skirts make me feel elegant, young and fairylike.. I don't care if you don't feel the same.. I know deep down you all love tulle, whether it be part of a child's costume, or like me, trying to make it stylin'.

She's whiskey in a teacup..

2013-10-02T15:57:00.002-07:00

This is a post inspired by Tom Waits.. He is rusty, growly, and if there was a jazz club with a touch of circus, death and religion. He would be there.

Daniel Durchholz describes Tom Waits voice as being "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." Elton John calls him the "Jackson Pollock of song". Tom waits is responsible for many a witty lyric including 'she's whisky in a teacup'.

She lives in a house

That's way back off the road

There's a man with a lantern

And he carries her soul

A coal stove and a bed

A skillet and a hound

She drove a camel through

A needle

In this sinking board walk town

She's my Black Market Baby

She's a diamond that

Wants to stay coal

I swang out wide with her

On hells iron gate

Anything that you wanted

You could have

My eyes say their prayers to her

Sailors ring her bell

Like a moth mistakes a light bulb

For the moon and goes to hell

She's my Black Market Baby

She's a diamond that

Wants to stay coal

There's no prayer like desire

There's amnesia in her kiss

She's a swan and a pistol

And she will follow you like this

In Moverly, Missouri at the

Iroquois Hotel

She checked in with the President

And she ran up quite a Bill

[Chorus]

She's whiskey in a teacup

She gives blondes a lousy name

She's a Bonzai Aphrodite

And a ticket back to Spain

She's a hard way to go

And there ain't no way

To stop

Every time you play the red
The black is coming up

She's my Black Market baby, She's my Black Market baby, She's a diamond that wants to stay coal, wants to stay coal..

jelly fish lake in Palau. Travel that is lovely and wild.

2013-10-01T12:00:00.000-07:00

Jellyfish Lake (Palauan: Ongeim'l Tketau, "Fifth Lake") is a marine lake located on Eil Malk island in Palau (a set of islands east of the Philippines in the Philippines sea).

What happens when you combine, isolation and jelly fish... no natural predators = no need for stinging.

These Golden Jellyfish can grow up to 16 cms.

Why do boring travel, explore and do the daring and unusual.

This entire lake has an ecosystem that maintains and nourishes itself. The Golden Jellyfish have algae that live in their tissues that provide nourishment. The algae needs sunlight to live, so the Jellyfish on their daily routine follow the sun across the water. The Jellyfish moving across the lake, pulsating and fanning the water and lake floor, churn up nutrients and organisms for other species to eat on the food chain.

http://animals.nationalgeographic.com.au/animals/invertebrates/golden-jellyfish/

The lake consists of saltwater and the predator that the Jellyfish do need to be wary of that lies in wait, in the shaded areas of the Lake are Anemones.

end of the world: Milla Jovovich Campari Calendar..

2013-10-01T01:00:00.000-07:00

Milla Jovovich is surrounded by the catastrophic theories of our beloved world ending. Terrifying and beautiful, lovely and wild. All the elements of what could occur, to bring about our doom.

This Campari 2012 Calendar is gorgeous and had to be shared, as it is a source of inspiration for me, dear readers.

Fire, lightning, hurricanes, the oceans rising, frost; all viable threats to our precious Earth... But, never fear.

You will be ok my lovers, if you drink Campari during these terrible events..

♥ Hot Air Ballooning, above the Gold Coast ♥

2013-09-30T10:30:00.000-07:00

As we rose in our basket at 530am, a group of 19 people held their breath and floated up, up and away.

The highest speed reached was 12 knots, which the priver (pilot/driver) explained was about a speed of 20 km p/h.

We floated all the way up into the clouds where at one stage we had one side of our view completely obstructed by white cloud.

The cars on their roads looking like toys and houses lined up in rows reminded me of the opening song to Weeds - Little Boxes by Malvina Reynolds. What can be deduced from it I don't know, but it has been stuck in my head for hours now.. haha

Little Boxes on the hillside,

little boxes made of ticky tacky,

Little boxes on the hillside,

Little boxes all the same.

There's a green one and a pink one

And a blue one and a yellow one,

And they're all made out of ticky tacky

And they all look just the same.

As we passed over houses, making poor doggies alarmed, people came out and waved at us.

And the people in the houses

All went to the university,

Where they were put in boxes

And they came out all the same,

And there's doctors and lawyers,

And business executives,

And they're all made out of ticky tacky

And they all look just the same.

It was one the best experiences of my life. I thought it was going to be really windy, but your moving at the same speed as the wind so it was relatively calm, quiet and peaceful.

We saw the beautiful mountains in the Gold Coast Hinterland nestled together dark green and bushy.

After this adventure dear readers, I believe I will, finally after years of procrastinating/clothes sales, invest in something I love to do... I will buy a DSLR...

11 stories of fire resistant cotton/propane and Chris kept us from the ground.

The Gold Coast is one of those places where you see high rises, beaches, islands and development; then further inland there are mountains and forests. An incredibly diverse, visually place.

I hope I captured our hot air balloon ride from balloons aloft, with the sense of adventure and floating bliss that we experienced.

It cost us dear readers about $300 p/p which included a lovely buffet breakfast.

Liam and I were treated by his lovely mother Pauline. I can now cross off my list, this thrilling bucket list adventure.

Kisses for now, dear readers ♥♥♥ Until our next great adventure ♥♥♥

You are under construction.. advice for you twenties ♥

2013-09-28T22:14:00.001-07:00

Self reflection and self direction are loaded and difficult. This is an open discussion in pictures and words about being in your twenties. From someone in her twenties.

I'm in my twenties! Now what?! A starting point to figure out if your happy! Choose your weapon (textas, pen, pencils) and just write everything you believe! Stuff you would tell another 'twentian'. Then ask yourself, do you practise what you preach? why not?

What I came up with:

♥ It's ok to not know what you want to do. You are under construction, stop panicking.

♥ Fear is only useful, when there is (imminent death or near death injury causing) danger.

♥ You can say no, without making excuses. Saying "no" or "I don't feel like it" is enough.

♥ Trust the universe - if you focus and state what you want, you will sub-consciously work towards that and the universe will provide.

♥ L.O.V.E is not settling, it is not compromising. It is a cure for commitment phobia, it is where you can be the best person, you can be. It is what makes you lovely.

♥ Having kids and marriage after your 20's is an amazing option. Make your own timeline, stop trying to be your mother, your friends, your enemies.

♥ Candles, flowers, disney, journals, freedom of expression and animals are important and prized possessions, which need to be in your life EVERYDAY.

♥ Family like good health is precious and rare and go hand in hand.

♥ You can be NEVER be over-educated. NEVER.

♥ Only be around people that get you. If your only friend is your dachshund because that's who lets you stay true to yourself, you will be happy! You won't be alone for long, like attracts like, look forward to ppl you will attract by being the best you can be.

♥ Other people are going through their own crises, usually YOU are not the reason they are mad/annoyed. Choose compassion over defensiveness.

♥ BE YOU. feed your mind and body with what you want.

♥ Kisses for now, dear readers. If you have any advice to add, comment below ♥

There's just something about sunrises.

2013-09-27T16:47:00.000-07:00

I am in love with sunrises. The sun paints our sky with pink, yellow and purple fingers. Birds go nuts, temperatures rise and it makes one feel as though, whatever you are holding on to, JUST DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE.. The world has moved on, nobody and nothing cares. Get on with your day and your life!

For those of you who missed the sunrise this morning.. Main Beach on the Gold Coast at 6am.

My favourite quote about sunrises:

"That morning I was not yet a vampire, and I saw my last sunrise. I remember it completely, and yet I can't recall any sunrise before it. I watched the whole magnificence of the dawn for the last time as it were the first. And then I said farewell to sunlight, and set out to become what I became." - (Louis) Interview with the Vampire [1994].

A happy sunrise to you, dear readers..

"you don't have to heat it, to eat it" Perfect student snack... St Dalfour French Bistro Gourmet to Go...

2013-09-26T02:18:00.000-07:00

Ok. A food post was well, WELL overdue... This is what I live off. These gorgeous French Bistro Gourmet to Go meals and stationary supplies to make my (never ending and usually never fulfilled) to do lists... I literally sing out loud in different tones and melodies "YOU-DON'T-HAVE-TO-HEAT-IT, TO EAT IT"

For those of you, trying to remember where you have seen the blue label St. Dalfour before, they are also the makers of delicious jams and spreads that inhabit breakfast buffets at hotels and restaurants. http://www.stdalfour.com.au/

Ok, the run-down on this delicious treat is the food is packed under a very strong vacuum, making artificial preservatives/colours, msg, nitrates unnecessary. It is gluten-free and contains 175 grams of delicious ingredients that don't need any other thing but a hungry tummy...

Wednesday's child is full of Woah. Abandonment..

2013-09-24T15:23:00.003-07:00

This is a post inspired by all things abandoned, this will be about the strange and forgotten things... The following pictures bring up ideas of the still air, dust peppering the sunlight, be warned, you are trespassing on the resting place of the rejected. Abandoned shipwrecks, objects and man made masterpieces. None of the pictures are referenced and they are not of my own devising.

Deserted places given over to nature to decay, it conjures to the mind Anastasia in the Romanov Palace, James Cameron with the remains of the Titanic.

The abandonment of hard work and dedication of many human minds and hands.

The workers, planners, bosses all that remains is the structures.

Psychometry - an extra sensory power, by touching an object you get visions or a sense of that object's history.

Useful, to useless.

There is a beauty in the devolving of a place or object.

A horror in the wasted effort and uninhabited remains of human creation.

It is tragic, it is a waste and it is beautiful.

Pollution, art and mystery.

Discarded.

Alone, empty and forgotten.

Odd and bewildering, the quirkiness that takes over after human neglect.

I hope that was inspiring for your weekly wednesday post... Kisses for you, dear readers xxx
