Their devastatingly catchy pagan-pop nugget ‘Shut Eye’ is currently causing a stir across the twittersphere thanks to its perfectly placed soundtracking on Hollyoaks’ Savage Party trailer, and now Liverpudlian trio Stealing Sheep are set to build on that success as they headline The Line Of Best Fit’s birthday tour.

Showcasing some of the finest new artists across eight dates, the tour kicks off in Bournemouth on 1st June and travels through Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham, Cardiff, Wrexham, Oxford and London. To celebrate, we’ve gone competition crazy, and have only gone and got a pair of tickets for each date up for grabs for you lucky people!


To enter: We want you to help us get #paganpop hashtagging all over the place on twitter! To enter, listen to the band’s track Shut Eye above, and then tweet the tongue-twisting first line of the lyrics, along with #paganpop, @stealingsheep and the name of the city you would like to win tickets for.

Saint Etienne’s London Palladium show rescheduled for Monday 25th June

Earlier, we broke the news that Saint Etienne’s much anticipated show at the London Palladium tonight has sadly been postponed due to illness. 
Before you weep into the sleeve notes of the band’s latest offering Words And Music By Saint Etienne though (cheeky plug — check), we are pleased to confirm that the show has now been rescheduled for Monday 25th June. 
All existing tickets and guest-list places for tonight’s show will be valid on the 25th, as well as a handful of tickets still being up for sale (check over here at See Tickets for availability). 
We wish Sarah a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you all then!

Hung To Dry, the follow up to Sneak Into My Room – playlisted at 6music and XFM — is the new single from James Levy and The Blood Red Rose.   
Introducing itself with plaintive harmonica courtesy of Levy, Hung To Dry is another fitting showcase for the breath-taking vocal pairing of James Levy and Allison Pierce.   
One of the more recent compositions on their critically acclaimed album Pray To Be Free, Hung To Dry took on a new dimension when Levy first performed it with his singing partner.  “The new songs came alive for me when I performed them with Allison,” James says.  “These songs were meant to be sung as duets.  There is a beautiful, knowing quality to Allison’s voice.  She understands where the songs come from.”
The video clip, directed Steve Birnbaum, presents Levy and Pierce as a modern day Bonnie And Clyde, in a mini-film noire shot on the streets of Brooklyn. 
Produced by Coldplay’s Guy Berryman and akin to the kind of classic Serge Gainsbourg recorded in the ‘60s with Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin, or Lee Hazlewood’s similarly charged duets with Nancy Sinatra and Ann Margret, Pray To Be Free has garnered superlative reviews across the board.   
As Berryman explains — “The songs collected on ‘James Levy & the Blood Red Rose’ document romance in all it’s guises; dark, twisted, hopeful and joyful. The sounds, drawing upon classic arrangements from the 50’s and 60’s, are melodic and lush and are hopefully a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by urban electronica.”
James and Allison make their next London appearance at the Union Chapel on June 26th on the same night as Allison’s headlining performance with her sister Catherine.  Tickets available here:

TOY 3 track session for Topman CTRL

TOY recently went in to Edwyn Collins’s legendary West Heath studio to lay down a 3 track session for Huw Stephen’s Topman CTRL project.  Edwyn and Sebastian Lewsley were on desk duties while Kieran Evan’s and his film crew took ctrl of filming the recording.  The 3 tracks include the forthcoming 2nd single ‘Motoring’, the b side ‘When I Went Back’ (which for the time being is the only place you can find this track) and live favourite ‘Bright White Shimmering Sun’.  We hope you dig!

As lead singer with Felt, Lawrence was responsible for some of the most precious music of the 1980s. On touchstone indie labels such as Cherry Red and Creation, the band released ten albums and ten singles — one for each year of the decade. Though few releases troubled the charts, Felt’s cult status was assured and a mission of sorts was accomplished. Lawrence went on to form Denim and Go Kart Mozart, bands that revelled in referencing 1970s glam and novelty rock while slyly critiquing the contemporary pop scenes. There’s been an air of tragi-comedy about Lawrence’s career at times. Felt were bumped from the cover of the NME when editors favoured a blacked-out cover to illustrate a feature on youth suicide, while Denim’s infectious 1997 single ‘Summer Smash’ was scratched from radio playlists when it was released in the week Princess Diana died. Paul Kelly’s intimate, smart doc portrait, a labour of love filmed over the last eight years, follows Lawrence between Go Kart Mozart albums, weighed down by the chips on his shoulders while still dreaming of being a pop star who rides in limousines and dates supermodels. He appears as, perhaps, he always has; a man out of time, touched by rare genius.
