Hey Grace!

Green with Envy

As of late we've been super busy around here, which is unfortunate because we've missed blogging and hearing from our lovely readers... but for now we have a few things to share so we hope you're still listening!

With much of the country blanketed in white we felt it appropriate to share some of our photos and outfits from our time spent in the snow.

Hopefully you can find some inspiration for your winter wonderland wear or something to carry you right into spring... we hear it's just around the corner!

I caught Abby wearing this emerald green Topshop dress that apparently has been a missing item essential to her closet (so glad I purchased it for her!), and I can't help but swoon over the leather details she added! In fact I LOVE the jacket so much I purchased one for myself (here)!

After a brief (longer than expected) holiday hiatus, we're back and we couldn't be happier about it! It's a new year, and with new beginnings come new adventures, new endeavors and of course new clothes!

Heels' new Shoshanna dress came to her as a surprise from her loving sister in the mail, and ended up being the perfect ensemble for ringing in the new year. What's better than starting your new year off in something gold and sparkling, with a little bubbly of course!

Roommate Inspiration: Emily

Emily and I met early on during our freshman year of college. I believe that we were destined to be roommates from that very moment on. Emily and I have been known to share our clothes, our moods, and desire to get the most out of life!

One of the roughest points in our friendship was last year, when Emily left to study abroad for a semester in London. Looking back on it, now that she’s home I have to say that it was a wonderful thing for her to do for a few reasons. First, she had an amazing experience that she will remember for the rest of her life. Second, I got to take my first trip “across the pond” to go visit her! And finally, (maybe the most important reason) she returned to the States with a newly developed sense of style that I have never been so proud to see in a friend! (Not that you weren’t always a sharp dresser, Emmy)

One of the first times Emily skyped me from London she told me that there were three items of clothing she had to buy right away. These pieces have all become staple pieces in her wardrobe back home. Without further ado, here’s my favorite world traveler and her new found passion for fashion!

Holy Hats!

I've always been impressed by the power a stylish hat can add to an outfit. Earlier this fall, as I was putting back clothes (aka shopping) at work, when I came across one that I just knew was coming home with me. I fell in love with this navy fedora, and found it to be the perfect addition to my closet!

Initially, I was worried I wouldn't be able to work it into my wardrobe. A piece this cute deserved the perfect outfit to go with it, and I was a little intimidated that I wouldn't be able to do it justice. Luckily, a few fall activities with the girls were all I needed to put my mind at ease. While out for a stroll with my amazing roommate, Sara, I was able to admire the falling leaves in style.

I also love Sara's stylish knit hat from H&M! I'm secretly hoping she lets me borrow it. The color and casual style are perfect for just about any outfit; not to mention it's a great transition piece from the fall to winter months.

Our hats were the perfect accessories for our trip to the pumpkin patch for Lizzy's birthday! Our ears were warm in the brisk fall air, and our fall hats served two functions: style, and practicality.

Winter is just around the corner, so you better hop to it and find yourself a hat to hold on to!

Peter Pan & The LBD

There are a few closet rules I like to live by:

1. you can never have too many little black dresses
2. it's all in the details
3. tailor, tailor, tailor

I few months ago, I took ten pieces to a tailor... dresses, skirts or tops that had been previously warn, and still very much loved, but the fit wasn't quite right. Each piece was slightly too long for my frame, or the length seemed out dated... either way, at least a few inches had to go off of each piece. Whether it was long dresses turned short, dresses turned into tops, midi skirts made mini... two weeks later I had ten new pieces to add to my closet at a fraction of the price!

This dress was one of those pieces and let me tell you, this little number has a new life! I love the details on this Vince dress, the buttons down the back, the stitching, shape, and now the perfect length! Pairing it with a second dress to add the peter pan collar is just my way of adding a little versatility, to a classic little black dress.

Leo's and Leopard

As a young girl in gymnastics and dance I spent many hours in leotards... but it's been a few years since those days. Part of me thought I had closed the door on leotards, yet when I saw this low back leo at American Apparel I was intrigued. It's simplicity and slight surprise in the back are just the right amount of skin without being overtly sexy, and it has worked its way into my wardrobe quite nicely. I'll admit it took me awhile to feel comfortable in it, but now I'm considering other leotards/bosysuits... that should teach me to never say never and not always scoff at my "fashionable past."

Rusted

This rust colored blazer is my absolute favorite thing in my closet! It's "borrowed" from my mom, and every time I wear it I fall more in love with it. In addition to it's sentimental value, the color is perfect, and the shape couldn't be more flattering. I love all the details, and although the photos make it look almost velvet, it is a very luxurious soft suede like leather.

For a while I struggled with wearing this piece because of it's unique color and shape, but now I can't get enough and pair it with everything from dresses and skirts to pants and even shorts. It also works with just about any color from blacks and browns to berries and blues; it works with everything!

I can't emphasize enough the importance of owning a great fitting, tailored to perfection blazer. Although they can be pricey I guarantee the cost will be worth it in the end, especially if the pieces lasts for as many years as this one has. Thanks, Mom!

Roommate Inspiration: Anna

Anna hasn't actually been my roommate since we shared a dorm room during our freshman year, but she lives with Jordan, who we all met last week, so it's really all the same.

Anna and I share our taste in books, movies, food, and decor. She and I find that the best shopping occurs either before or after one of our favorite past times: Happy hour. So it only makes sense that we share our favorite fashions too. Anna's closet has been growing since I've known her, and ever since she started building it she's never been shy about sharing with her friends. It's one of the many reasons I love her.

Anna is always put together during the day, but at night she lets out her wild side. And whether it's time for class or time to party, she never skips out on accessories.

Mellow Yellow

Yellow has never really been a color I've warn. Ever since I was little I always felt it washed me out, but when it comes to a color as blindingly bright as a yellow highlighter, how could that be?!

These days there are a few yellow tones that have entered my closet and made it into permanent weekly rotation; mustard, neon yellow, and several golden hues. With neon yellow, I've found it helps to balance the bright color out with a few basic tones... plus you avoid looking as if you've been attacked by the 90's.

I also have to mention just how much I LOVE my new Stylemint purchase and I can't believe I've held out for such a long time! The fabric is amazingly soft and I love the print of this dress (turned skirt) even more than the online picture. If you've never heard of Stylemint I'd highly recommend it and you can register here. Again, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen can do no wrong.

Black Orchid

Despite the extreme heat wave that San Francisco experienced this past week things have cooled down considerably. As a result, I've returned to my recent "uniform" of pants, collard button down (preferably silk), six inch heels, oh and one or two POPS of color!

I can't emphasize enough how much wearing bright colors can add brightness to your day... you feel brighter, you look brighter and you may even experience people around you approaching you with a bright smile; it's a great feeling! So the next time you're shopping and grab for that pair of black trousers, grey sweater, or ivory cardigan, try to resist and opt for the unexpected color that can add a little pop to your day. I think you'll thank me later.

Roommate Inspiration: Jordan

While Jordan isn't technically my roommate, we try not to let labels like that bother us amongst our friends. We're so close at heart anyway, and she lives less than a block away; so It's really only a technicality.

Jordan, like Lizzy, is very trendy; but she and I share a love for the classics that never go out of style. We both believe that a high heel is never out of place when you're under 5'2, and that the best outfits should show off your curves.

It's no surprise that I love dresses, but as of late I have been living in pants. Whether they're silk, wool or jean, I've just been loving the way a pair of sky-high heels and a good fitting pant have been making me feel taller and leaner. Since I haven't grown an inch since the 6th grade, that's a great feeling! I also love the ease of this outfit, casual, comfortable and work appropriate, plus I'm obsessing over this navy oxblood combo!

I'll take tailored trousers, polk-a-dot pattern mixing, and stilettos any day of the week!
