4 years ago Pat proposed to me right here! Today, I have a cold, so after he made me some tea and toast, I crawled out of bed and we hugged in this spot to reminisce.

Back then, we were building our house and this fireplace was just a pile of stones. We were holding hands as we imagined what our first house was going to be like when he got down on one knee.

We were engaged for about 10 minutes when we took this picture. Then we ran out to buy our first champagne glasses.

(I accidentally deleted my entire photo library in 2009, so this picture of a picture will have to do.)

Avocado Anything

I recently saw this post on The Kitchn called 10 ways to eat an avocado for breakfast.

Obviously, it got me thinking.

I made a variation of the Avocado Toast, doing my best to capture the yumminess of the moment with my iPhone.

Avocado Toast

1 – 2 slices of multi-grain bread (toasted or not)
1/4 avocado
1/2 cucumber cut into rounds (with or without skin)
handful cherry tomatoes cut into small rounds and sautéed in 1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp light cream cheese for toast (optional)
drizzle with olive oil
a pinch kosher salt
freshly ground pepper

I added scrambled eggs for some extra protein.

Scrambled Eggs

2 eggs scrambled
sprinkle with dill (optional)
a pinch kosher salt
freshly ground pepper

I topped it off with a coffee and a fancy champagne flute of orange juice. It was a nice way to start the day.

Cassius – I Love U So

project: door-table

For the past few months I’ve had this dream to replace my tiny computer desk and even tinier drawing desk with one large farmhouse table. Switching back and forth between the two disrupted my workflow and made me very cranky. So a few weeks ago, my dear friend Beth and I went on a craigslist-find adventure to get this door-table!

It was in pretty rough shape when we got it home. I got some supplies and spent a nice little Saturday giving it a bath and sanding it down.

I have no idea how old this door is, but there were so many layers of paint that I probably could have sanded it forever and still uncovered new colors; mint green, pink, blue and the natural wood make the prettiest combinations.

The seller also threw in a piece of custom-cut glass so I can enjoy all of these colors without my computer things wobbling on the uneven surface of the door.

Total cost of the door-table, sanding and cleaning supplies – under $120. I love craigslist.

Thanks for helping me out, Beth! Working is now a dream.

This is a great “everyday” card by one of my favorite illustrators, Carrie Gifford, founder of Red Cap Cards. She’s inspired by her childhood memories, her chihuahua, Bartleby, and her dad’s mustache.

I’m finding these very inspirational at the moment as Joy and I go on to illustrate our first children’s book with writer Rhoda Ostashever. But that’s another story for another day, little ones.

A while ago I did a post on my search for the perfect sneaky, yet cute, camera bag.

Well now I have one! My husband got me this little gem from Pendleton.

I love it. It’s perfect and fits all my things, plus my camera, without weighing a ton. I actually use it all the time now, with or without the camera.
