Gotta love Danish politics.. They spend MONTHS (I don’t even want to know how much money has been spent on that) discussing whether or not to forbid burka’s, only to find out there’s only three (3!) persons wearing them in Denmark

So, in Holland we celebrate Sint Maarten by kids going around town with lanterns, singing songs at doors, collecting candy (I wonder if this is actually related to trick-or-treat). How lanterns and candy are related to a bishop sharing his coat, I cannot tell.

In Denmark they eat duck the night before St Morten’s day. The reason for this, is because St Martin didn’t want to become bishop and hid in a stable filled with geese, where the geese betrayed him with their honking. That’s why they eat duck! Logical eh?

Yeah, it’s a bit far out.. But I like both candy and duck, so I won’t complain.

I can only conclude with: A cada cerdo le llega su San Martín!

I’ve been in Brighton this week to attend Flash on the Beach. In my opinion one of the best conferences I’ve ever been to. As usual, these kind of conferences are very inspiring to me, and I always get triggered to pursue things I tend to put on the side. Either because I forget about them, or because they’re plain impossible.

Triggered by Joel Gethin Lewis, who used to work for United Visual Artists, one of the things I like to get back to is my experience with stage craft. I’m talking sound and light design here. Last year I saw a session about UVA at the Metropolis Biennale, an architecture/art/theater symposium in Copenhagen and was seriously blown away by their projects. I’ve been a big fan of their work ever since.

Now, the work that UVA does, is EXACTLY the perfect match between my skills in visual programming (flash), my background in theater lighting, and general interesting in electronics (LEDs, sensors, buttons, massive amounts of electrical power, etc).

So, I’ve set myself a goal. I want to create an installation involving a camera, motion tracking, a projector, and some code to support my Copenhagen Ghosts project, which I like to extend with some extra works anyway. I feel that I can take my photography to the next level, if only I set myself to do it (well, someone needs to believe in me, so better start with myself).

I need a way to express myself. This is my new pet project!

My Dutch driver’s license was going to expire in October, so I had to renew it. Instead of renewing it at the embassy, I was told to get a Danish one instead. This one is valid until the day I turn 70 No more renewing fees every ten years, yay! Though I wonder how long I could drive with it in Holland if I’d move back (no plans).

The people at Årstiderne have a wonderful service where you can subscribe to a regular delivery of organic produce.

I choose a mixed case myself that’s delivered every other week. It comes with some pages with recipes the week’s products.

This week I got: cherry tomatoes, peaches, melon, green beans, bellpepper, cucumber, apples, salad, and a cabbage.

What I really like is that it triggers me to cook differently. I have no idea what to do with the cabbage for example Good recipes are welcome. It’s a spidskål (spitskool/savoy cabbage).

Yes, so I moved. I now officially live in the old silo of the Kongens Bryghus brewery. How cool is that? It’s a very serene place, overlooking the city from the 16th floor. Last night there were thunderstorms swiftly passing by. The picture is the view I had from working at the kitchen table. More pictures will follow.
