We (Aasmund & me) jumped on a plane earlier today. The plane took us to Oslo. Thank you mister plane. We´re doing a mini talk and a sweet workshop at Visuelt tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Big time.  So we better get some sleep.

If you are the type (pun intended) of person who get kicks out of going to church and saying “yes” when the priest asks you if you want the person next to you, then you are in luck. Get your custom wedding ring over at Type Rings. What font would you use in your wedding ring?

One of my favourite artists, ABOVE, just did this sweet, clean and to the point piece in Johannesburg (South Africa).

How did ABOVE get permission to do this wall piece. Well, here is what he did in his own words:

“I was able to get away with this diamond wall heist because I told the owners I would paint in big letters “Diamonds are a woman’s best friend” on the exterior of their building. The owners loved the idea and all quickly agreed.

The next day I had started painting but what the owners didn’t know is that I lied to them and was hijacking their wall. Like any premeditated robbery, situations are not what they seem and shit can flip from best friends to worst enemies in a few moments.

I assume the owners were too busy trading diamonds inside the mega centre they never took the time to come out and see I was painting a controversial word play about the diamond trade and how it’s fueled so much bloodshed in wars making it one of man’s worst enemies”

I like the way he flipped the coin on the owners. Clever. More (other) work from ABOVE:

Our friend Remi just finished some amazing wall decorations for Carat. Remi states on his Behance account: “I was asked to help with the redecoration and decoration at the office of Carat, a large media-agency in Oslo. The project included decorating 5 walls, one large illustrative, two typography related, and two with a mix of typo and illustrations. The brief was rooted in the phrase “Redefining media”, and my take on it.” I think Remi solved this one super nicely. Popping typography with awesome details. Lucky Carat people. More pictures:

In Sweeping Beauty, Niels Shoe Meulman experiments with water and asphalt. The result is beautiful typography!

Great showcase of the work with Katachi Typeface, designed specifically for iPad. I love how Katachi tries to make the best magazine experience for each issue, to explore the possibilities and push the boundaries for what touch interaction is. Great work by Andres Torresi and @katachimag.

Famous for their type work, Büro Destruct were contacted by Edding, the company behind the great markers. They wanted a font based on the thick adding 850. Great to see clients appreciating the power of custom typography!

Stumbled upon this sweet project via Twitter. The project is made by Txaber, a designer based in Bilbao, Spain.  He has experimented with angles to produce Cubist typography with a strong wood finish. Read more about the project over at Design Taxi.

New York Types opening night

Doors opened on Dec. 15th for the ʻNew York Typesʼ exhibit at the Art Directors Club in New York City, presented by New York Writes Itself and The Village Voice. Inspired by the ʻScriptʼ at http://www.newyorkwritesitself.com, the exhibition brrought to life real words heard on the streets of New York City.

This event was inspired by New Yorkers, and brought to life by New Yorkers. Every piece of art in the show was inspired by a person, scene, or quote witnessed in NYC. Thank you to the scribes for contributing stories. Thank you to the people of New York who unknowingly catalyzed an amazing letterpress show.

Over 650 people (including those who acted as scribes and submitted the words they heard to the website) descended on the Art Directors Club for opening night where great art, live music and booze was enjoyed by all.

Get involved as a Scribe at http://www.newyorkwritesitself.com, and your everyday experiences of New York just might become part of the next New York Writes Itself experience, which could take the form of music, writing, photography, a short film or more.

The  Comic Sans Project or The Comic Sans Defenders or The Group who belives Helvetica is sooo yesterdays news. Well… it made me laugh!

“Clean Me” was one of the first self-promotional prints by lettering artist Alison Carmichael. At first sight you might think this is a painting. But Carmichael, together with art director Mark Denton and Photographers Sean & Ben projected the artwork on to the back of the van so Carmichael could trace it in the dirt with his finger. #Wow ❚

There must be something about Spain and great type-driven graphics. We´ve had visit here in Trondheim from fellow spanish designers Alex Trochut, Marta Cerdà Alimbau and Dvein. Hope we see these guys around as well.  Vasava is a multidisciplinary studio based in Barcelona doing Graphics, Interactive and Motion. Their clients range from Diesel, Adobe, Schweppes and Nike. Check them out!

This is a custom made alphabet made for an album cover. The tools used in this project are soil, home-made light table, paint brush, camera and photoshop.

After the photoshoot, the individual letters was put together in photoshop and adjusted on top of the font that was used as a template. Yes, I had a print out of the alphabet beside me when i formed the soil. I decided it was a safe thing to do for maximum readability on the finished alphabet.

Facsimile from NYTimes: The Spanish graphic designer Joan Pons Moll is creating a new typeface, but unlike most typographers, he’s doing so with his feet rather than a computer, and he’s slightly out of breath. Taking sneakers to pavement, Pons is planning to run the entire alphabet — both upper- and lower-case letters — in his inventive endeavor, “Running Alphabet.”

My friend and Tibe T colleague Trond and myself played with this new app yesterday (GIF Shop). It makes Gifs. We love gifs. We love type. We´re happy.
