He is the miner who asked for and received Elvis songs which he used to lead sing alongs with the other trapped miners. Graceland managers and CEOs have just invited him to visit the famed grounds of Graceland. We want to see whether he will accept the offer.

Miners with several women fighting for their attention and government's benefits! Chilean miners just join their compadres in the military and other professions where men claim many side relationships!

The drama underground has been lived live on national and international tv sets. Yet the drama that awaits the rescue of these 33 men will be even bigger. They were united underground, but on the surface, all the truth about their loyalty and fidelity to their spouses will come forward. Alas! the Chilean miners are all too human!

News about mistresses juggling for government's benefits and cash aids abound above ground. The trapped men had to decide which women should get the government's benefits. In some cases, the men do have children with several women. In the case of Yonni Barrios, he wants both women to be treated equally by the government. And he wanted both of them to wait for his rescue. The brazen mistress showed up, but the wife did not have the courage to come forward.

One miner has four women fighting over him in an effort to claim compensation offered to the families of those facing between three to four months underground until a rescue shaft can reach them.
Government officials are considering asking the 33 trapped miners to name those they want to claim the benefits entitled to them in a bid to solve problems on the surface.
"There has been a lot of conflict between women," admitted Marta Flores a Red Cross worker at the makeshift camp where relatives wait for news of their loved ones.
"We had a big bust up in the canteen tent when a wife came across a woman who claimed to be her husband's lover – we had to step in and pull them apart before things got physical." At stake are welfare packages issued to the families of the trapped miners as well as future compensation claims that could run into tens of thousands of pounds.
"Unfortunately the conflict stems from money issues," said Mrs Flores. "Some of the men have children from numerous women and all of them have arrived here to stake their claim. I've met five families in this situation but I'm sure there are more." Some women turned up at the camp to discover that their partners already had a wife and children who they knew nothing about.
"Those that truly love their men have slipped away quietly not wanting to cause any more pain to the families but others are putting up a fight." Special welfare officers trained in marital issues have been brought in to provide help to women faced with their husband's infidelity.
One miner, who has not been named, has a first wife he never divorced, his live-in partner, a mother of a child he had several years ago, and a woman who claims to be his current girlfriend all visiting the camp.
"It's a logistical nightmare trying to keep them apart and of course they all want to send messages," said Mrs Flores.
The team of psychologists charged with ensuring the mental welfare of the men below ground are attempting keep such developments from the miners.
"We read all the letters before they are sent down to make sure the miners do not experience any extra anxiety," said Alberto Iturra, head of the psychological team.
One of the trapped miners, Yonni Barrios Rojas, who is using his first aid training to treat medical problems underground is among those who faces difficult questions when he finally makes it the surface.
His wife, Marta Salinas, 56, discovered he had a mistress when she came across another woman holding a vigil for him. The other woman, Susana Valenzuela, said they met on a training course five years ago and he was planning to leave his wife for her.
"He is my husband. He loves me and I am his devoted wife," insisted Mrs Salinas. "This other woman has no legitimacy."

Experienced Australian Social Worker Travels to Chile and Wants to Help in the Recovery

I am an Australian social worker currently travelling through Chile and I am wanting to enquire about whether there is any current volunteers required in the recovery after the earthquakes. I recently departed Melbourne, Australia, after completing a year working in post-disaster recovery with the families and individuals affected by the Victorian Bushfires that occured in February 2009. I am 24 years old and have had previous experience in the field of social work working with adolescents, Indigenous Australians and in adult homelessness. The main issue is that I do not speak Spanish as yet. I am willing to work in any jobs required (rebuilding, material aid etc), and do not need to be working in a direct social work capacity as I do not speak Spanish; I am willing to work for a few months if required."

I m a twenty year old from the United States and I was on a trip with the National Outdoor Leadership School when the earth quake hit Concepcion, I was planning on doing a personal trip to see South America after my course, but if there is anything I could do to help out for the time I have remaining in Chile I would prefer to do that. I m in Santiago right now and I plan on heading to Pucon on friday, however, if there is something I can do let me know. I don´t have much skills building, however I have been on a trail crew through Americorps and I know the value of hard work, we also were trained in how to use a chainsaw. HelpChileQuake along with VolunteerBlogpost is the number one website that is pushing hard to merge travel with volunteering. We already know that travelers are already a special group of people motivated by the experience, culture and the attractions of new adventures. One way or the other, they will be out to explore and be one with Mother Nature. While traveling for fun, travelers can participate in a network of good championed by VolunteerBlogPost Network.

World Vision is Reaching Out To Chilean Children Who Suffer Mental Shocks, Are Jumpy Due to Quake and Aftershocks

Many crisis workers and psychologists have known the effects of natural disasters on children. They saw it at Banda Aceh in Indonesia and in Haiti. Children are suffering from panic attacks. The Feb. 27 quake has lasting effects on all the Chilean children who are still at home. Their school has been delayed until mid April after the government announced an intensive project of school rebuilding. Christian organization, World Vision, is doing something to help solve these problems. World Vision needs your financial assistance to meet its goals.

Through community centers, World Vision is trying to return the kids to normalcy through play.

"The Christian charity is opening several centers in some of the hardest-hit parts of Chile, which it is calling "Child Friendly Spaces," to try to ease the burden of the quake on kids.

World Vision is also launching a nationwide toll-free help line. The phone bank staffed by psychologists will offer counseling to anyone feeling stressed, anxious or severely depressed. They are also offering advice to parents on how to help their children cope with the traumatic event...."

HelpChileQuake wants to build a tsumani of volunteers who are ready to help Chile rebuild. Chile has been a good neighbor to many countries in Latin America. Chile's government sent lots of help to Haiti after the Jan. 12 earthquake hit the Caribbean nation. Little did Chileans know that they would be hit by a monster just a month after the Haitian quake!

Chile sent lots of assistance to Haiti and other countries. Now it is time to help Chile face its problems and help Chileans rebuild bridges and other necessary infrastructures.

Mapuche Communities Complain About Lack of Assistance, Tents, Feel Abandoned by Chilean Government

Mapuche communities are complaining about the lack of food, water, tents, cloths, gas and electricity. They feel marginalized and abandoned by their own government. The leaders are wondering whether this treatment is due to their past and ongoing fights and claims of ancestral land. Find out more about the plight of the central-south regions Mapuche Indigenous people..... Please do not let the Mapuche people go without despite their struggles to get heard! Send assistance to the remote areas of their communities! They need shelter, clothes and food just like any Chileans! Volunteers and humanitarian organizations can focu on these vast areas now.

"Chile´s indigenous Mapuche community is looking abroad for help in the aftermath of the Feb. 27 earthquake, as some members of the community say they feel marginalized and abandoned by the country´s government, reports The Santiago Times.

According to the UKL-based organization Mapuche International Link (MIL), there has been very little, if any, food, tents, cloths, water, gas or electricity in the rural areas of the central-south regions of the country inhabited by ethnic Mapuches.

This is in contradiction with official claims that the situation in Chile is under control and improving for most citizens.

“The Mapuches face ceaseless repression of their political and ancestral rights. As such, they have a reason to worry that their needs will be put at the bottom of the state´s intervention list,” says MIL vice-secretary Nina Dean.

According to Mapuche activist Miguel Cheuqueman, government aid arrived to the municipalities, such as Tirua, Canete, Arauco and Lebu. But it was not distributed to isolated Mapuche communities.

“The municipalities probably don´t have sufficient means. However, we suspect that the lack of will also plays role,” Cheuqueman, who represents the regional Mapuche group La Identidad Territorial Lafkenche, told the Santiago Times.

There have been many conflicts between the state and the Mapuche community in the La Araucania region in the past years, mostly over land.

Feeling that they are left alone, Mapuche civil society organizations are taking initiative into their hands, collecting donations and distributing them into rural areas. Still, they lack resources that the state has at its disposal......
