Today's women are turning to the healing garden of herbs to treat
and prevent things such as colds, headaches, and allergies etc. Healing
herbs can be found right outside your backdoor.

5 Benefits of Healing Herbs:

1.
Herbs are an effective alternative to chemically produced prescriptions
or even over the counter medicines. They can treat minor cuts and
scratches to headaches and insomnia. Herbs provide relief for
indigestion, PMS, and even acne. Don't think of herbs as being a weak
alternative to prescriptions as they are powerfully effective.

Instead of using motion sickness medications try using Ginger. It's a strong rival to even the top brands sold.
Some studies suggest extracts from Ginkgo leaves may treat symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
Silymarin, the active ingredient in Milk Thistle seeds, may repair and help protect liver cells.

Of
course it's not just as simple as replacing conventional medicines with
herbal remedies. They should work together. Always check with your
medical doctor and an experienced herbalist before combining herbal
medicines with prescription medication.

2. Making the right
choices and the right dosage will produce fewer side effects. For the
most part side effects produced by herbs are much milder than those
produced by drugs. It is believed the complexity of the chemistry in
plants is the reason the side effects are milder. However you should not
take herbal formulas after the need has passed.

For example, if
you are taking a prescription for water retention, one side effect from
the drug is the depletion of potassium. On the other hand the leaves
from dandelions not only act as a diuretic they also supply potassium.
Over the counter cold remedies may cause drowsiness making it unsafe for
you to drive or work. Herbs like garlic you can fight off the cold
without the drowsy side effect.

3. An ounce of prevention is worth
a pound of cure. Stress, low immunity, and tiredness can all be reduced
with the use of botanical remedies. Use herbs in teas and cooking for
preventive medicine since some of these may be taken for weeks or months
without side effects. This will provide your body with minerals and
vitamins. Just like any other health plan or diet, you need to combine
exercise and good eating habits.

4. Herbs are really suited for
the different needs created by the many cycles women go through. Herbal
remedies may support a woman through an emotional crisis. Chamomile
reduces anxiety while St. John's-wort may relieve mild depression. Part
of the benefits from using herbal remedies is the simple task of
preparing them. Create beneficial beauty products for the body using
oils and fragrant herbs. You'll have skin care that won't expose you to
synthetics or other additives.

5. Stop to smell the flowers, or in
this case, the herbs. The rapid pace of everyday living has us running
from one place to another. Little time is left to really enjoy the
beauty around us. Stop for a cup of herbal tea or take an extract of
herbs. Enjoying the natural tastes and aromas and reuniting with nature.
Start healing yourself physically and emotionally.

Using herbs in
teas, tinctures, oils and even cooking is definitely a benefit to your
health but remember to use botanical remedies wisely and above all,
safely. Generally herbs are very safe if used in the proper dose. For
minor medical problems head for the herbs but if the issue is more
serious go to your doctor for a diagnosis. Herbs still may be right for
treatment or you may combine them with conventional medications under
your doctor's direction.

If you become pregnant you should stop using herbs immediately.

The Ayurvedic Medicine practitioners of India have long used
medicinal herbs to heal their patients. While originally the only
medicine available in historic times, many of these Indian medicinal
herbs are still used today. Those that use them prefer natural over
pharmaceutical medications because they tend to have fewer side effects.

Licorice
root is often used for respiratory problems. It is an expectorant and
helps with coughs and fever, making it a good choice for use in chest
congestion and colds. It can also be used to relieve urinary disorders.
Care should be taken with licorice, however, as it can affect blood
pressure. Those with heart problems or high blood pressure should use it
only under the supervision of a qualified doctor.

Ashwagandha,
sometimes referred to as winter cherry or Indian ginseng, has long been
used in Ayurvedic medicine. It invigorates the body and has been used as
a treatment for arthritis, rheumatism and leprosy. It is also
considered to have aphrodisiac effects.

Valerian is a calming
herb. It works well in those with hysteria, stress, and nervous
conditions. It is sometimes given as a treatment for insomnia. As an
antispasmodic, it is useful in the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
The
root of the calamus plant has many medicinal uses. It is used for
digestive difficulties such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. With its
sedative effects, it can be helpful in treating mental disorders and
epilepsy.
Ginger, a staple of Indian cuisine, also offers medical
benefits. It is soothing to the digestive system, relieving nausea and
vomiting. It is also a natural anti-inflammatory, making it a good
choice for inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Most people,
even those without experience with Ayurvedic medicine, are familiar
with chamomile. It has a wide variety of uses. It calms the stomach and
digestive tract. Used on the skin, it can help to treat acne and other
disorders. Chamomile tea can help ease stress and relieve insomnia.

Basil,
while better known as a culinary herb, also has medicinal uses. It is
commonly used for respiratory disorders as it relieves congestion and
eases coughs. It is also used in digestive problems as it calms the
stomach and breaks up gas pockets that can lead to abdominal distention
and discomfort. It is sometimes used by diabetics as it can lower blood
sugar.

Most of us are familiar with aloe vera's use on sunburns.
However, it has many other uses. The gel can be used to treat skin
problems, wounds and cuts. The juice of the plant is sometimes given for
use internally to treat jaundice, hemorrhoids and menstrual
irregularities.

Lemongrass is an excellent herb to include in your
garden not only for its medical benefits, but also its culinary uses.
It is a natural carminative, helping to relieve flatulence. It also
helps repel insects.
With these Indian medicinal herbs in your
garden, you will be able to treat a wide variety of illnesses from
digestive upsets to coughs and colds. Many of these can also be used in
your cooking, bringing exotic flavor to even the most basic of culinary
dishes.

Chamomile is one of the most common medicinal herbs that you can
grow in your garden. It is fairly easy to grow and with its many uses,
especially as a medicinal herb, it definitely is a valuable addition to
your home herb garden.

Grow Chamomile

Chamomile,
grown for its daisylike flowers, prefers full sun outdoors. It grows up
to 20 to 25 inches and is best planted in the ground than in
containers. It is also ideal for mass planting and landscaping provided
that each plant is 6 inches apart. Soil has to be well drained with
adequate nutrients, and like most sun-loving herbs, water only when the
topsoil is dry to the touch.

Propagation is through the seed.
However, starting chamomile from seed can be very tricky and
challenging. It's better to start from a young seedling in a container
then transplant in the garden once the plant has hardened. An
established chamomile plant is very hardy and can tolerate almost any
growing conditions.

Medicinal Properties

The
key element in a chamomile plant is its flowers. Chamomile flowers are
used as medicinal herb, cosmetic agent, herbal tea, aromatherapy
ingredient and can even be tossed in salads and beverages.

Its
flowers have anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, nervine or
nerve-soothing properties. As anti-inflammatory, it can be used to treat
skin irritations, gingivitis, rheumatism, arthritis, and other painful
swellings. As antispasmodic, it can be used to relieve stomachache and
gas pain, menstrual cramps, indigestion, diarrhea and ulcer. It is also a
very good laxative. As nervine, it is slightly sedative and can be used
to induce sleep and dull pain. It also helps to alleviate anxiety and
depression.

As a cosmetic agent, chamomile can lend
anti-allergenic and soothing properties to beauty products. It is
sometimes added to soaps and lotions because it can soften the skin. It
is also great for aromatherapeutical applications because it has a
calming effect and relieves mental and physical stress. It is also used
in shampoos for its sweet-smelling scent.

However, chamomile is
not recommended as an alternative medicine for pregnant and
breastfeeding women. It is also anti-coagulant (blood-thinning) and
vasodilative (nerve-dilating) and must be avoided, at all cost, weeks
before and after undergoing surgery. Use with medications having the
same effect is also highly discouraged.

How to Use

This
wonderful and common medicinal herb is often use in the form of herbal
tea. Dried flowers are added into boiling water then covered and steeped
for at least 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can also place them in a
tea bag to eliminate the need for draining.

Dried flowers can also
be used in a bath soak as a relaxing beauty regimen. They can also be
made into potpourri and burned for aromatherapy. Commercial chamomile
essential and massage oils are also available in the market. If you're
in for an organic gastronomical treat, you can eat chamomile flowers
fresh by tossing some into your salad or your favorite lemonade.

The
uses and benefits of growing medicinal herbs in your home is plenty and
truly amazing. Having chamomile, along with other common medicinal
herbs will make your herb gardening more worthwhile.

Lately, more and more of my patients have expressed an interest
in using herbs for their specific health concerns. They are concerned,
as am I, about side effects, as well as rising costs of prescription
drugs with health care insurance issues being what they are these days.

Herbs
have been used as medicine for centuries in many cultures around the
world. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Indian Ayurvedic medicine lead
the way in treating illness with herbs. In fact, prior to 1930, herbal
medicine was the only medicine used in America!

For the past 30
years, however, herbal, or botanical, medicine is enjoying resurgence in
America. People are revisiting the healing power of all those ancient
herbal formulas. Echinacea fights colds, St. John's Wort brightens mood,
chamomile settles upset stomach, and ginseng boosts energy. These herbs
are so commonly known they're sold in grocery stores!

The use of medicinal herbs is a vast subject, so I'd like to touch on some of the most common herbs and their uses.

Herbs for General Health

Especially
in men and women over age 40, along with a healthy diet, regular
exercise, and enough restorative sleep, taking at least 1 of these herbs
can help keep you healthy in general:

•Garlic - antioxidant, antibiotic, and cholesterol reducer, can help prevent heart disease.
•Green tea - an all-around powerhouse antioxidant, can lower
cholesterol and help prevent mouth and stomach cancers. Drink 2-3 cups a
day without milk or cream.
•Turmeric - (yellow mustard ingredient) long used in Indian
Ayurvedic medicine, an excellent antioxidant which lower cholesterol and
is said to prevent cancer.
•Olive Leaf Extract - anti-inflammatory, immune system booster, kills viruses and bacteria that can cause illness.
Herbs for Men's Health Issues
There
are several herbs that are beneficial to men's specific health concerns
such as prostate and impotence issues. Here are a few of them:
•Saw palmetto/beta sitosterol
- one of the most popular herbs, treats BPH, benign prostatic
hypertrophy, by shrinking the enlarged prostate and relieving urinary
problems.
•Gingko biloba - helps increase blood flow throughout the
body which can alleviate impotence and help cognitive brain function and
circulatory issues.
•Muira puama - stimulates libido (both male and female), treats erectile dysfunction, and balances hormones.
•Tribulus - stimulates testosterone production, addressing impotence and libido.
Herbs for Women's Health Issues
Women's
specific health concerns such as painful menstruation, menopause,
libido and infertility have been treated with herbs for centuries.
Recently, traditional medical doctors have turned to safe, herb-derived
bioidentical hormone replacement to treat symptoms of menopause. The
following are herbal estrogen and progesterone sources that come from:
•Black cohosh - full of natural plant estrogens, good for menopause symptoms and PMS.
•Wild Yam - contains isoflavones, treats menopause symptoms, and maintains bone strength.
•Dong Quai - for menopause, treats hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and weak bladder tone.
•Red Clover - like soy, contains isoflavones, treats menopause symptoms.
The Big Three and Herbs
In
the United States, the highest rates of illness are from cancer,
diabetes, and heart disease. Let me share with you some herbs that have
shown a lot of promise in research studies to specifically address these
conditions:
•Sheep Sorrel - Cancer. Noted for its tumor shrinking, anti-metastasizing properties.
•Green Tea Extract - Cancer. Contains ECGC, an antioxidant
that neutralizes free radicals that damage healthy cells. Slows/prevents
the rapid cell replication of cancer.
•Turmeric - Cancer. Contains curcumin, boosts immune system, and prevents tumor growth.
•Cinnamon - Diabetes. 1/4 to 1 tsp sprinkled on food, can control insulin spikes. Also helps lower high blood pressure.
•Banaba - Diabetes. An herb from the Philippines extensively
studied for diabetes. Like cinnamon, has insulin-like activity that
helps maintain normal blood sugar.
•Ampalaya (bitter melon) - Diabetes. Also extensively researched, the favorite treatment for
diabetes in India, Asia, Africa. Said to stimulate beta cell
production in the pancreas that helps the body's natural production of
insulin.
•Valerian - Heart/high blood pressure. Relaxes you, lowers blood pressure, and aids sleep.
•Alfalfa and Garlic - Heart/arteries. Lowers LDL cholesterol by blocking absorption and preventing oxidation into plaques or clots.
•Cayenne - Heart/circulation. Stops heart pain by rapidly
increasing blood flow to the heart. It has been touted as a first aid
treatment for heart attack - 1 tablespoon Cayenne in a glass of warm
water drank quickly.

There you have a basic introduction to
medicinal herbs. There are innumerable health conditions that herbs can
be used for. However, they are not without risk. You have to take them
properly as you would prescription drugs. Consult a doctor familiar with
the use of herbal medicine to treat illness. They can ensure correct
usage and monitor you for any possible adverse reaction.

Among the uses that can be made of herbs, home remedies is one of
them. Though generally known for its culinary usage, growing medicinal
herbs is favored by many and has been used for many, many centuries.
They are most often presented in the form of teas or infusions which
makes them quite easy to consume.
Herbs of all types have been
growing freely everywhere since vegetation has garnished this planet and
has has shared its beneficiary effects with mankind for a long time
and, for many purposes. Culinary, ornamental, fragrances and medicinal
all plays an important role in our lives. Herbs are the ancestor and the
principle active agent in modern pharmaceutical production.

Growing a Garden of Medicinal Herbs:

To
start growing herbs for such a purpose, you will do so the same way you
would grow any other herbs, flowers or plants. As most other herbs,
they can be grown outside, in the garden, or inside of your home. Of
course, you will need to choose which herbs you will be growing and the
proper care needed to succeed, how to harvest and prepare them for
storing.

Once you have chosen the herbs you wish to grow, you will
go to the local gardening center and buy the plants and other supplies
needed. The plants and good soil are pretty much all you need for
planting in the garden, for growing inside you might also need pots,
some gravel for proper drainage.

When planting, dig a hole for
each plant making sure that there is enough room for the roots to be
nested in without any bending. Proper sunlight, watering and weeding
will vary according to the variety of plants you are growing. Be aware
that an important factor to the choice of herbs you are growing. There
are 3 main types of plants - annuals, biennials and perennials. These
variations will strongly affect when and how the plant is to be grown.

Once
your crop has reached maturity, it is ready to be harvested and prepare
for storage. Medicinal herbs are dried the same as other herbs by
hanging them upside down, stored in bags, or dried in the oven.

Medicinal Herbs: Which one and what for?

There
is a good choice of herbs to choose from and it depends essentially on
the needs you wish to cover. There are numerous other herbs available to
care for your health that you may wish to grow, but these are a few to
get you started.

Valerian, Passion Flower, Skullcap and Chamomile: Calming effect, will help assure a good night sleep.

Sweet Annie, Baikal Skullcap, Barberry, Meadowsweet, Marshmallow,
Licorice and Ginger: Great for the digestive track and digestion.

Saw Palmetto, Pygeum bark, Horsetail, Pipsissewa, Echinacea and Marshmallow: Beneficiary effects for male prostate health.

St. John's Wort favors emotional well being and concentration.

Reishi is a fantastic support to the immune system and milk thistle is good for the liver.

Helonias, Black Cohosh, Dang gui, Partridge Berry, Chasteberry,
Angelica, Ginger and Licorice are all favorable to women's health.

Hawthorn, fresh Skullcap, fresh Motherwort and fresh Cayenne are popular herbs to help with cardiovascular health.

How to use these herbs:
As mentioned
before, teas or infusions are the most common way to consume the herbs.
Of course, fresh leaves are the best option for preparing the tea. but
stored herbs will do the job just as well when out of season. In both
cases you only need to apply boiling water over the stems, leaves or
flowers for several minutes. It can be drank hot or you may prefer to
let it cool down a bit.

When using the herb's roots, the bark or
any other hard part of the plant, you will need to do a decoction. To do
so, you will put 1 teaspoon of dried herb (3 if fresh) for each cup you
wish to make, add the water and bring to a boil. Do not use an aluminum
pot, a glass or enamel saucepan should be used when doing this.Once
boiled, simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Keep the lid on the saucepan so
that all the essential oils and nutrients remains locked-in. Strain the
flavorful potion and enjoy.

There are a lot of chemicals, pesticides and other harmful
factors in the environment that would jeopardize one's health. The foods
that we eat is also adding to toxin build up, which lowers our
immunity. There is a tendency for tissues and cells to have a toxic load
as a result of high intake of processed foods. There is a need on
cleansing from these toxins. This is called detoxification.

There
is a need to find other ways to clear the body from these toxins as our
kidney and liver, though being considered as natural detoxifiers, will
be unable to do so if too much toxins are available. Long fasting or
dialysis are some methods of detoxifying the body. The defense mechanism
of the body is the immune system. Thus, one must take action to prevent
infections and diseases to avoid the whole body to become affected. The
frequency of illness of one person will be dependent on the strength of
the immune system.

There are products that will help to strengthen the
immune system such as detox herbs. These herbs will minimize the
development of illness and instead give support to the immune system to
maintain a good well-being. Make sure that after choosing the right
detox plan for yourself, you then choose the right detox herb products
to use. The following herbs are some commonly used herbs.

Psyllium
seeds. This will improve bowel movement and maintain it in good
condition. especially when there is a problem with diarrhea. This herb
also remove toxins in the body and absorb it like a sponge.
Cascara
Sagrada. This helps to flush out toxins from the system and is a
natural laxative. Your colon will be strengthened as well and can be
used together with psyllium seeds.

Milk thistle. This is used to stimulate protein synthesis in the liver.

Nettles. This helps the urinary system as well as other parts of the body.

Burdock roots. This provides stronger cleansing since it aids to minimize metal build up that causes harm to the immune system.

Dandelion
roots. This will target cleansing to your liver and is beneficial in
removing wastes in the gall bladder. If used with other compatible
herbs, it will have an effective way to cleanse the kidneys as well.
If
there have been constant exposure to polluted air and processed foods,
one must do detoxification. These herbs have a been known in history to
help people in the process of detoxification. Which is why, these are
mostly used to treat patients when it comes to detoxification.

This article will discuss the symptoms associated with anxiety
and some of the best all-natural remedies with anti-anxiety properties.

Every
living person feels anxiety at one time or another. We all know what
it's like to feel worry, nervousness, fear and that heart-pounding
feeling in your gut like something awful might happen. Maybe you get
caught in a little white lie, or a big project you were working on gets
delayed and you know it is your fault. Or maybe you're walking down the
street and an unleashed pit bull starts eyeing you. Anxiety in these
situations is common and quickly fades when the problem is solved.

But
for nearly 40 million Americans, anxiety is an everyday reality. People
who suffer from regular anxiety and/or panic attacks experience
symptoms so often that it interferes with their ability to enjoy
everyday life. People in this situation have anxiety "triggered" by
what, for many people, would seem minor stressors, or normal life
occurrences. These could be things as simple as starting a conversation
or thinking about the future.

While a person often realizes the
excessive worry or fear is not completely rational, there is little he
or she can do to relax. Symptoms often include:

Racing or pounding heart

Trembling

Sweaty palms

Feelings of terror

Chest pains or heaviness in the chest

Dizziness and light-headedness

Fear of dying

Fear of going crazy

Fear of losing control

Feeling unable to catch one's breath

Tingling in the hands, feet, legs, or arms

There
are a number of treatment options for anxiety that include therapy,
prescription drugs, exercise therapy and dietary supplements. With
anxiety, treatment options are not a one-size-fits-all consideration.
For
people with clinical disorders experiencing extremely severe symptoms
that make everyday life a challenge, prescription medication coupled
with therapy may be the best option. But most people who suffer from
anxiety are not in that boat.

For most who suffer from anxiety, a
combination of regular exercise and the right natural supplements can be
effective enough to overcome most anxiety symptoms. Most commonly
people feel anxiety when there is one or a few chemical imbalances in
their body that lead them to have a strong stress response to normal,
everyday occurrences. This imbalances can often be corrected with
supplementation.

Two of the most important brain chemicals in
preventing anxiety are Serotonin and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid).
Together, these neurotransmitters, or "chemical messengers" work to
regulate mood, sleep cycle, muscle tension, concentration and
relaxation. These are also two of the most commonly imbalanced brain
chemicals that can lead to anxiety.

When these are out of balance,
the body's ability to confidently handle life's stressors is greatly
reduced. Luckily you can support these crucial brain chemicals with
natural, over-the-counter supplements. No doctor's appointment
necessary.

So then, what types natural anti-anxiety herbal extracts, vitamins, amino acids and nutrients can you buy over the counter? The following list contains some of the strongest and safest. Several of these also support Serotonin and GABA production.

L-Theanine

L-theanine, an amino acid found in green tea, produces a pronounced
feeling of tranquility in as little as fifteen (15) minutes. L-theanine
increases the activity of GABA, a neurotransmitter (i.e. natural
messenger in the brain) that promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety.
L-theanine also stimulates the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter
responsible for confidence and a sense of well-being.

GABA

Gama Aminobutyric-acid (GABA) is an amino acid and the main
inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitter in the brain. GABA is a natural
calming agent that prevents excessive muscle tension and helps our
bodies make endorphins, chemicals that make us feel happy. Deficiencies
of GABA in the brain have been linked to insomnia, and feeling anxious,
stressed, tense and depressed.

Ashwaghanda Root

Ashwagandha has been used in the Indian tradition of Ayurveda in
health tonics and calming serums. Recent studies demonstrate that
Ashwagandha is an antioxidant that can treat anxiety, depression, panic
attacks and phobia.

Brahmi (Bacopa Monnieri)

Often used by Ayurvedic healers to accompany Ashwagandha, Brahmi
(a.k.a. Bacopa Monnieri) is a mild sedative which supports the body
during periods of emotional stress. Traditionally, Brahmi is prescribed
to promote healthy cognitive functions, including focus, concentration,
mental endurance and memory. Modern studies have found that Brahmi's
anti-anxiety properties were as potent as those of Lorazepam, with none
of the side effects.

Tryptophan

Tryptophan is the number 1 supplement purchased to fight stress and
anxiety. It is an essential amino acid that the body converts into 5-HTP
(5-hydroxy-tryptophan), and then to serotonin. Serotonin is involved in
mood, appetite, sleep and impulse control. Once the serotonin
neurotransmitter is made, the brain is able to convert it at night into
melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone.

Passion Flower

For centuries, herbal medicine practitioners have used Passion
Flower as a natural remedy for anxiety, stress and insomnia. Modern
clinical studies shows that Passion Flower extract significantly lowers
anxiety levels and promotes a more tranquil frame of mind. Studies also
indicate that Passion Flower can reduce anxiety-related discomfort
caused by withdrawal from opiates and other drugs.

Magnesium

Magnesium deficiency is one of the leading causes of anxiety and
insomnia and the western diet tends to be lacking in this critical
element. Research now shows that as magnesium levels drop, symptoms of
anxiety and depression can increase.

Niacin

Niacin works with the body to convert Tryptophan into 5-HTP, which
can then be converted into Serotonin. Without Niacin, Tryptophan-5HTP
conversion cannot take place. Common symptoms of niacin deficiency
include irritability, poor concentration, anxiety, fatigue,
restlessness, apathy, and depression.

Vitamin B Complex

Getting enough of the many forms of Vitamin B is essential to
maintaining proper brain function. Vitamin B is involved in the
metabolism, as well as the production of Serotonin. Low levels of
vitamin B have been linked to, anxiety, restlessness, fatigue,
irritability, and emotional instability.

Al of these can be purchased at your average health food store. Currently there is only one supplement that contains all of these ingredients: Tranquilene. You can learn more about Tranquilene here: http://www.tranquilene.com/index2.php

Natural Herbs Can Be A Healthy Part Of Your Lifestyle

While
the use of natural herbs to improve one's health has recently enjoyed a
surge in popularity, the health benefits of natural herbs has been
known throughout the world since prehistoric times. Many people
throughout history have used herbs as medicines. Ancient histories
describe medicinal uses for many different herbs, and many of those same
herbs are used today to treat the same ailments. Modern chemical drugs
and medicine are based quite a bit on early herbal medicine practices,
and many of our drugs have extracts or essences of plants as some of
their key ingredients. While chemical drugs have overshadowed herbal
medicines in the modern era, many people are beginning to see the health
benefits of natural herbs, especially when applied to a holistic
wellness approach.

Understanding what herbs are and their known
benefits may encourage you to begin to use these natural elements to
increase your own wellness. The particular herbs used to tread medical
conditions in ancient times often depended on the local vegetation, but
with our global economy, it is much easier to access herbs from all over
the world. Herbs come from leafy plants and many are used to flavor
foods. However, some of these same herbs can have wonderful effects on
the body. For instance, garlic can cause a modest reduction in high
blood pressure, and green tea and Oolong tea can have been shown to cut
the risks of getting high blood pressure up to 65%.

The health
benefits of natural herbs for diabetes have also been researched, and
Gymnema has been shown to stimulate the pancreas so that more insulin is
produced. In addition, Fenugreek, which was used by ancient Romans and
Greeks to treat diabetes, has been shown to lower the blood glucose
levels and the insulin levels as well as overall cholesterol levels.
Bitter melon, bilberry, and grapeseed extract have been shown to benefit
and strengthen the capillaries, which aids the damage to small blood
vessels which is one complication that is linked to diabetes. There are
many other conditions that respond favorably to natural herbs.

As
you learn more about natural herbs, you will see that the majority of
herbs are very safe and if your body doesn't need what they provide,
they will simply pass through your body without causing any harm. You
can also substitute healthy herbs in many of your recipes in the place
of less healthy ingredients to make the meals you eat much healthier.
For instance, using garlic and other herbs in the place of salt or
butter can be a very healthy substitution. Learning to cook with herbs
can really enhance the flavor of your foods. Over time, you may find
that you really prefer the flavors of the herbs you are using over the
fatty or unhealthy condiments you used to use to get more flavor out of
your foods.

As you can see, there are many health benefits of
natural herbs that have been known for centuries. By augmenting your
current healthy lifestyle with herbs that can prevent or help control
illness, you can improve not only your overall health but also your
quality of life.

Losing your hair can be devastating. According to experts,
approximately 50% of men are plagued with genetic hair loss (i.e. male
pattern baldness). And unfortunately in our youth-and-beauty-obsessed
So what can you do? The good news is that you
don't have to go bald. There are lots of options including hair
transplants, hairpieces, drugs and even hair loss herbs.
If you
don't want the negative side effects of drugs - and can't afford an
expensive transplant or hairpiece - you may be interested in which herbs
help combat hair loss. This article will outline some herbs, vitamins
and other foods that have been rumored to be effective with male pattern
baldness:

#1 Saw Palmetto

This herbs is made from the
berries of the palm tree native to South Atlantic coast. You can often
find it in health food stores in capsule or liquid tincture form. It
comes by itself (which can be expensive if you're buying a lot of it).
You can also usually find it in a good hair loss herbal formula.
Saw
Palmetto reportedly works in a similar fashion to drugs like Propecia
and Proscar by indirectly blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT
(which causes genetic balding). So you get similar benefits of these
drugs - but without the side effects.

#2 Dong Quai

This herb
contains phytoestrogens that work by blocking androgen-receptor sites
and reducing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, or
DHT.
#3 Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed oil (and flax seeds) provide
lignans for your body which helps fight bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Flaxseed oil boosts the health of your hair and even helps your body to
detoxify and improve circulation to your scalp.

#4 B-Complex Vitamins

These
can help, especially with stress-induced hair loss (even though you may
genetically susceptible to losing your hair, stress can speed up the
process).
B vitamins have also been reported to reduce the oily
buildup in the scalp and strengthen the hair itself. Another vitamin
that may help is vitamin C as it helps you deal with the stress hormones
that circulate in your body and can cause temporary hair thinning.

#5 Chamomile

This
has been reported to help in the hair growth process and you can get it
in Chamomile tea, shampoos, conditioners and even hair lotions.

#6 Vitamin E

This
is a powerful antioxidant which helps produce free radical damage and
fights premature aging (i.e. hair loss). It also helps promote healthy
skin and hair.

Other hair loss herbs:

Rosemary, nettle and
horsetail are said to promote hair growth by increasing blood
circulation to the scalp and unclogging the pores so the nutrients from
the herbs can get to the hair follicle easily. You can find them in
shampoos lotions and even sometimes in teas or tinctures.
So those
are some of the best herbs for hair loss. I'm not saying any of these
herbs/vitamins are a complete solution for male pattern baldness.

Everyone
is different and you have to research to find the right solution for
you. Just be aware however that in this day and age, you don't have to
suffer with the embarrassment of losing your hair. There are solutions
out there that have helped a lot of guys - including herbal and natural
options!

Aloe vera for sunburn is one of the most common known uses of
this plant as well as for treating minor burns and skin irritations too.
Using the gel of this plant by breaking the stems off soothes irritated
and painful sunburns and helps promote faster healing. These plants are
easily found in garden centers and even in some grocery stores.

A
common mistake many people make when it comes to being burned by the
sun is to put lotions or some types of ointments on the affected areas
right away. This will make the pain and blistering worse as the heat
will be trapped within your skin and locked there.

Wait for the
skin affected to cool down first before applying these. Here are some
tips to get it feeling better. You may take pain medication or aspirin
for the first 48 - 72 hours to help you rest better. Aloe gel or juice
works the best for sunburn but there are other options to consider as
well.

To get the heat cooled down you should invest in a bottle of
spray vitamin E oil or even the capsules. Spray vitamin E on affected
areas or puncture and squeeze oil from capsules onto them. A paste made
of water and baking soda placed on areas also is an old helpful tip to
help with the pain and decrease blisters.

Believe it or not,
herbal tea is actually used in the soothing of sun burned skin as well.
Combine peppermint, calendula and lavender leaves that are dried and
make a tea. Then you should let tea cool and soak a thin cloth in it
wringing out slightly, you want to keep as much of the wetness in cloth
as possible.

Lay on affected skin for relaxing and cooling
feeling. This specific home remedy has been used for a very long time.
Oatmeal soaked in hot water is another little known home remedy. Let the
oatmeal cool until it is cold then carefully place on the skin which is
hurting.

The oatmeal helps healing occur more quickly thanks to
the mega-B vitamins it contains and is also very great for nourishing
the skin too. For less severe burns you can slice up some chilled cold
cucumbers and place on the skin, this works as a cooling agent and will
make your skin feel better pretty quick.

You can also use plain
yogurt and buttermilk applied with cotton balls or gauze, gently
sponging onto your skin. The one thing you should remember about this
though is that you should shower it off later in the day or you will end
up smelling of curdled milk.

Aloe vera for sunburn is the
simplest and most common to find. Prevention and sun smarts are still
your best plan of defense though. Always wear sunscreen if you are going
to be out in the sun for prolonged periods and for convenience keep
some aloe plants in your home as they work well for minor kitchen burns
as well.

One of the largest glandular organs, the liver is very important
in the vital functions within the body and is thought in Ayurvedic
medicine to be the center of the dosha, or constitution, known as Pitta.

Essentially,
the liver performs important functions such as changing plasma to blood
and storing energy to be released into the system as glucose for
maintaining blood sugar levels. Harmful toxins are recognized by the
liver and are eliminated prior to entering the bloodstream. There are
natural detox remedies available that may help to improve basic liver
functioning.

Whenever the liver becomes overrun with toxins it
loses the ability to recognize and then remove them from the body.
Several factors may contribute to a build-up of toxins in the liver, for
example eating a high fat diet or consuming too much sugar, alcoholic
beverages and processed foods. Additionally, food items containing
pesticides, preservatives and chemicals may also lead to toxic overload
within the liver.

In order to function well, the liver must be
able to process toxins properly and effectively every day. Not only are
toxins derived from the foods consumed, but additionally from the
various products used on the skin, and the actual air that is breathed.
Although consuming alcohol excessively frequently is to blame for liver
damage, many medications, both over the counter and prescription, can
have harmful effects as well.
The liver is vital in processing
toxic substances as cellular waste such as urea synthesis; a by-product
of metabolized proteins that the liver sends into the bloodstream.

A Healthy Liver

The
Pitta dosha controls the liver with the element of fire being the
principal component. When the Pitta dosha in the liver becomes
imbalanced, many issues such as skin irritations, infection or surplus
acidity can result. Scientific studies have proven the liver to be vital
for the proper processing of digested foods into a more effective form.
Similarly, Ayurveda contains the enzymes needed for digesting the five
elements contained in foods. These five sense organs-eyes, nose, ears,
skin and mouth are nurtured by the five elements.

Toxic materials
may be recognized by the liver not just for their potentially harmful
effects, but their ability to heat the body as well. Ayurveda indicates
that alcohol, along with greasy and processed foods, has the ability to
heat the body.

Everyone may find helpful benefits when using
natural detoxification supplements and other remedies to maintain a
healthy liver. Additionally, keeping a well balanced Pitta dosha by
consuming a limited amount of foods that may irritate the Pitta is
beneficial. People who are Pitta predominate should try hard to balance
their Pitta dosha given that they naturally tend to burn hotter than
other dosha categories. When Pitta requires increasing for other types,
the introduction of healthy Pitta fire sources such as cardamom,
cinnamon, cumin, or black pepper may help.

Ayurveda greatly
suggests performing a natural detox remedy after each season change;
spring being considered the best time. When the liver is detoxified
during the spring, the body is allowed to get rid of the toxins that
were built up during the winter. Also, the time between summer and fall
is a prime period to take on a natural detox so the body can once again
eliminate the toxins built up over the warmer months.
The liver is
the base for the emotions governed by Pitta, and therefore an imbalance
of Pitta will frequently manifest in mood swings, anger, impatience and
irritability. Yet, on the other hand, a well balanced Pitta dosha
creates healthy feelings of courage, ambition and confidence. Anytime
the emotions such as fear or sadness are suppressed the liver can be
damaged as badly as when alcohol or processed foods are eaten.

Herbs and Supplements for Liver Health

There
are many natural herbs for detox that will improve liver function and
create a balanced Pitta. Some of the ways that natural supplements and
herbs positively affect the liver are bile production, balancing Pitta
and cleaning and detoxification.

Bhumyamalaki - A basic herb intended for both stimulating and supporting liver function.
Sharapunkha
- Utilized for improved bile secretion, blood purification, as well as
inflammation reduction. Additionally, Sharapunkha maintains general
liver health.

Punarnava - Beneficial for eliminating any toxins deeply entrenched inside the liver cell walls.
Chiretta - Promotes bile secretion while stimulating the liver and producing glycoside to protect the liver.
Indian Barberry - Helps increase bile flow and is a great natural ingredient for correcting liver function.
Liver
Balance is a product to improve digestion and clear blocked channels
while cleaning the liver. Elim-Tox-O may be used to provide gentle body
cleansing and liver support. This product cleans the body and liver, can
be used long term for regular cleansing and does not result in over
heating of the body.

At minimum, individuals should perform an
annual cleansing fast via one of the various natural detoxification
supplements and remedies recommended by Ayurveda. Keeping the liver
functioning properly will guarantee a healthier outlook on life.

The
liver must be carefully maintained for proper health and vitality. Stay
away from foods that irritate Pitta and remember to find healthy ways
to deal with emotions while enjoying liver friendly foods.

Consider
taking supplements that will naturally support and detox the liver in
order to not only restore Pitta balance but remove the harmful toxins
that result in dangerous toxin excess.
Thankfully, most pathogens we encounter are not able to attack us - either because they are unable to get to the part of the body where they can cause a problem, or because our immune systems neutralize them before they do any damage or are able to reproduce to dangerous numbers.

The immune system really is an incredible thing. In essence, your immune system 'remembers' encounters with pathogens, so under normal circumstances, any single type of cold or flu virus that you have previously had cannot make you ill again (there are a few exceptions but to cover them would take us well beyond the scope of this article).

Unfortunately, the viruses that cause colds and flus mutate rapidly. This means that their methods of attacking and entering your cells are changing all the time. It is a bit like a continual game of cat and mouse, with your body defeating one pathogen, only to be attacked by a mutated descendant a few weeks or months later. This constant, rapid mutation of viruses is the reason why there will probably never be a single cure for the common cold, and why pharmaceutical companies and countries' medical authorities must take (a very educated and precise) gamble as to which strain of flu will be the dominant one, come the winter season, and spend months producing tonnes of vaccine in the hope of protecting the vulnerable from infection.

For most of us, colds and flus are an inconvenience that we can do without. Being ill makes us feel bad, makes us less productive and of course none of us want to pass on an illness to an elderly, frail or otherwise vulnerable person, for whom a simple cold may become more than an inconvenience.

By maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle we can keep our immune systems operating effectively, and ensure that our bodies have the energy and resources they need to fight any infections that may take hold. We can also take supplements that contain antiviral herbs such as Echinacea and Elderberry extract that help to optimize and support the immune system, as well as acting as antiviral agents.

Flu Defence is a powerful antiviral supplement that contains high strength extracts of Echinacea and Elderberry, plus Vitamin C and zinc, to boost your immune system and help neutralize viruses. Antiviral herbs support the body's natural ability to stay in healthy balance and strengthen the immune system naturally, which is the first line of defense against illness and disease.

Conventional antibiotics are not an effective defense against viruses, and if used unnecessarily can actually be counter productive.

Traditional medicine has used herbal remedies for centuries to support health and vitality and the benefits of herbs have been confirmed by many clinical research studies. A few of these immune system enhancing herbs are:

Olive leaf extract (Olea europea) is known to provide support for healthy phagocytosis, the function of the immune system in which phagocytes in the bloodstream digest potentially harmful micro-organisms.

African Potato extract has been shown in research to have positive effects on the number of T-cells, which are involved in enhancing immunity.

Buchu supports the body's ability to get rid of harmful toxins through the urinary system.

Peppermint helps strengthen liver function by supporting the body's natural flow of bile. The oils of peppermint are beneficial in supporting a healthy immune system.

Goldenrod strengthens the natural protective ability of the body to fight infection and regulate the production of mucus.

European Mistletoe has been shown in research to support natural immune responses, as well as helping to maintain balanced fluid levels in the body, and strengthen capillary walls.

Hawthorn is highly respected in herbal medicine as a tonic to support healthy circulation. Research studies have demonstrated the ability of hawthorn to assist with heart function.

Wu wei zi (Schizandra sinesis) - Studies show that this Chinese herb can help to support healthy heart, liver, and kidney functions.

Milk-vetch is a Chinese herb which is known to have positive effects on immune system health and functioning.

You are most likely to get frequent bouts of cold, flu, and other minor infections if you have problems with immunity. Antibiotics may indeed be the wonder drugs but they should not be relied upon as a "quick fix.". And, as mentioned earlier, they are not effective against viruses.

Antiviral herbs work to strengthen the immune system so your body can easily and naturally protect itself against whatever you may come up against.

Max Wardlow writes about many different health subjects and manages a website about natural remedies where you can find out more about antiviral herbs.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Max_Wardlow

Grow Your Own Medical Herb Garden

Today everyone is concerned about health and organic food. Contrary to the way over-the-counter drugs like antibiotics work, which targets the elimination of infectious pathogens such as fungi and bacteria, antiviral herbs complement the body's ability to heal itself even from supposedly incurable diseases.

Pharmaceutical drugs are not only unnatural, but they also tend to work against the body. Chemical drugs work independently of the body's natural functions and balances, which explains their long list of side effects. Another risk of using drugs is that viruses can become immune to their effects. In this condition, the next move is usually to take higher doses or use stronger drugs which can pose serious risks to damaging some organs and impairing the overall balance in organ system functions.

While herbs are usually known for their culinary roles, there are some herbs that are established as natural remedies for viral infections. Their natural medicinal properties present excellent alternatives to common antiviral drugs. Unlike chemical drugs, these herbs safely offer a reliable defense against a full spectrum of viruses.

Garlic is perhaps an age old tool for healing. It is also a potent anti-pathogen herb that can fight infectious viruses, bacteria, fungi and other known parasites. In some cases, fresh garlic juice is even more potent than pharmaceutical antiviral drugs as its healing properties can quickly penetrate any part of the body, speed up healing and inhibit infection.

St. John's Wort is touted as a cure-all herb. However, it is mostly known for its antiviral effects. Together with other potent herbs such as garlic and echinacea, it can form a powerful antiviral mix.

Echinacea is an antiviral herb that fights infection by delivering immune stimulating effects. In this sense, it helps double or even quadruple the amount of immune cells and chemicals to reverse sluggish immune system functions and optimize the body's defense against viral infections.

Goldenseal is another antiviral and antibacterial herb that offers milder antiviral action, making it excellent for curing viral infections of sensitive parts of the body.

Other powerful antiviral herbs include oregano, Siberian ginseng, astralagus, peppermint, juniper, elderberry, burdock and licorice. Astralagus is an effective antiviral remedy for viral conditions such as flu and cold. Elderberry offers antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory relief to common colds, flu and upper respiratory tract infection.

Antiviral herbs help overwhelm viruses by interfering with their replication cycle and inhibiting their activities. Usually viruses attach to host cells where they interfere with natural cellular functions which result in infections or disease. The referenced herbs have innate antiviral properties which are mainly designed to offer relief and stimulate immune system functions. In a sense, these herbs offer a naturally adaptable solution in which the body develops a strong defense against viral activities.

In boosting the body's production of antiviral agents such as the infection fighting white blood cells, antiviral herbs can significantly reduce the symptoms of viral infections and diseases. However, this does not necessarily mean that healing herbs alone can resolve viral infections and diseases. Nutritionally rich and well-balanced diet is still necessary in promoting healing and better health.

Want to find out more about Most Natural Remedies, then visit Elaine Stanstad's site on how to choose the best antiviral herbs for your needs.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=E_Schulstad

Discover Purely Natural Herpes Therapies

Purely natural herpes remedies manage herpes infections in three ways. While Ayurveda has many herbal formulas to rid the body of disease and keep it healthy, it also has a few special products for beauty. Herbal formulas to preserve beauty are listed in the texts of Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic recipes consisting of 16 Ayurvedic herbs (Kumkumadi) that act synergistically to cleanse, smoothen the appearance of aged skin, and impart overall radiance and luster. These are a combination of several herbal ingredients including rare saffron, turmeric, vetiver, lotus, extracts of Banyan tree, Manjishta- Rubia cordifolia, Daru haridra- Cocinum fenestratum, Jasadbhasma, sandlewood, Usiri, black cherry, blue lotus, Indian madder, milk, and licorice. The key ingredient, saffron, is considered a royal spice in Ayurveda.

The ingredients work synergistically to impart their herbal properties to beautify the skin.
Rare Saffron saturates the skin to give it a natural golden glow. Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus), a species of crocus in the Iridaceae.

Lotus, sandalwood, and vetiver plump the skin, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while extracts of Indian Madder and Banyan tree lighten the appearance of brown spots caused by acne scarring, the sun or aging.

Turmeric reduces inflammation of skin and prevents many skin ailments. The golden yellow powder acts as natural antibiotic and is good for acne. Texts of ayurveda praise the scar and blemish diminishing properties of turmeric. Consistent use of turmeric reduces stretch marks on the body.

Licorice, known for its antiseptic and microbial properties helps to protect blemish-prone skin from bacteria and other impurities. Usiri improves the complexion, and Sandlewood is cooling for the skin.

Jasadbhasma acts as a natural sunscreen, protecting the skin from harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Home made beauty products can be made from the above ingredients. Two simple ones to try yourself, using ayurvedic principles:

1. Apply a paste of sandalwood powder, rose water and glycerin on your face and neck regularly. With this you can have a clear skin that looks younger and combats wrinkles.

2. Make a paste by using equal parts of sandalwood powder and turmeric powder in water and apply it over pimples. Wash off after 30 minutes. This mask can diminish acne and the appearance of blemishes. This mask is best for combination and oily skin.

The 16 herbs product, Kumkumadi, is to be applied and massaged into the skin for a few minutes, using gentle upward strokes. Results are typically seen in 3 months of use.

http://www.rejuvherbs.com/kuancr.html

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Vasudha_Badri-Paul

3 Herbs to Boost Your Mood Naturally

Do you know a misery merchant? Just like your bank manager, a misery merchant always knows just how to bring you down. They're the sort of person that no matter what happens, always feels down, unhappy or blue?

While it is natural to have days when you're feeling a little out of sorts, regular problems with moods can really make life, well miserable... pardon the pun!

The long term solution for mood disorders and anxiety is to correct underlying nutritional deficiencies. Unfortunately, this is not always a quick process. This is where herbal medicine can help you to obtain short-term relief.

Sage - More Than Just Sore Throats

Sage is probably not the first herb that springs to mind for mood disorders; even most folk herbal remedies use sage more as a natural antiseptic in the treatment of sore throats and coughs. Sage though, has far more to offer than just this. Research is only now uncovering what the Chinese have known for centuries and sage is taking its rightful place as a powerful herb to support mood and nervous system function.

What really makes sage stand out from the crowd is its rapid action. Studies have shown reductions in stress and improvements in mood as quickly as one hour after taking the powdered form of the herb. Other mood boosting herbs require several days of consistent use and even then, only make their effects known gradually.

If you've ever tried sage tea, you will know it doesn't make the nicest brew. This taste though can easily be masked by the addition of other strong flavours such as peppermint or liquorice. Alternatively, some health food stores stock powdered sage in capsules that can make this herb a little easier on the stomach.

The use of sage oil internally and strong sage preparations should be avoided during pregnancy. It may also exacerbate some gastric disorders and complaints.

Passion flower - Beautiful & Effective

Passion flower has a long history of use in traditional medicine, and not just in the treatment of mood disorders and anxiety. It has been suggested that the early North Americans used passion flower in the treatment of epilepsy; and like a lot of other herbs in human history, it didn't take long for us to figure out it could be smoked.

Research has shown passion flower's effectiveness on mood is not just folklore. Studies comparing passion flower extract with common pharmaceutical drugs used in mood disorders, have found it to offer similar results without the risk of addiction found in pharmaceutical medications. Anxiety, insomnia, and stress symptoms all responded equally well and results can be obtained in as little as two weeks of use.

Passion flower is readily available in most health food stores as either capsule or a loose leaf tea. Capsule and tablet forms are most effective for stress and anxiety, while the tea, particularly when prepared with valerian, is a great way to prepare for bed.

Guarana - Not Just a Quick Hit

Not just in energy drinks any more, guarana is increasingly found in herbal mood and anxiety formulas.

Most people are probably familiar with guarana as the healthy form of an energy drink. Did you know that in addition to giving a quick energy boost, guarana can also be beneficial for mood? It's not just a caffeine boost either, as lower doses have been shown to be more affective than higher doses.

The use of guarana in the treatment of mood can be controversial due to its stimulatory effect which can worsen symptoms for those that are already highly strung. It can however be useful where mood disorders are accompanied by high levels of fatigue or low energy and lethargy.

Make Sure to Consult a Naturopath

If you're affected by mood disorders or anxiety, it's important to consult with your Naturopath. The herbs that even ancient healers knew would enhance and even enlarge breasts are now called 'phytoestrogens' by the scientific world. Phytoestrogens are substances in plants that have a similar effect on the body to estrogen. Because estrogen is the hormone that produces breast growth in the body, fooling the body into thinking it has more estrogen causes breasts to enlarge with new healthy breast tissue.

Although these female breast herbs take time for results to show, they can, if used correctly, cause breasts to grow over the course of a month or so. Some products that use these herbs claim that their product can cause breast growth of up to two sizes, and they also advertise that the new growth is permanent.

You can always turn to the expensive and sometimes dangerous plastic surgery implant route, but the female breast enlargement herbs that have been used for centuries can make a big difference in the bust line without the lifelong risk of implant problems or the risks of surgery themselves, which can be substantial. Most companies will tell you that these herbs don't work for everyone, but they do work for most people. And the best companies will offer you a money back guarantee, so you can try the female breast enlargement herbs at no risk. Now, if you just go to the herbal grocer in your area, they're probably not going to offer you a money back guarantee. But the companies that are charging $60 or more for their products should.

The female breast enlargement herbs that have been found to be most useful are: saw palmetto, Don Quai, wild yam, dandelion root, blessed thistle, kava, and the herb from Thailand called Pueraria Mirifica, and fenugreek. Fenugreek is an interesting herb that was used for centuries by harem girls in the Middle East to produce more healthy breast tissue, thus enlarging their breasts. Taken internally, this is one of the best breast herbs.

Saw palmetto, too, has been used for centuries in North and South America. Native to the continent of America, it is now often recommended by naturopathic physicians to naturally enlarge breasts. Wild yam is another of the best female breast enlargement herbs, and it has been recommended by some not only for breast enhancement but for breast health as well. It can be used in conjunction with fenugreek for a more dramatic effect than either herb alone.

Of the other female breast enlargement herbs, Pueraria Mirifica is a very interesting and more recent addition to Western herbal health, although it has been known in Thailand for centuries. Also known in Thailand as Kwao Krua, it has only recently become commercially available in the West, since it took a while for the Thailand government to share its ancient remedy with the rest of us. Pueraria Mirifica has been shown by Thailand scientific studies to augment breast size up to 80 percent, although these results have not yet been duplicated in the United States or Europe. It has, like wild yam, been shown to help with general breast health, and some say that it helps offset a woman's chance of breast cancer.

Generally, female breast enlargement herbs create more healthy breast tissue by stimulating breast growth in much the same way that estrogen would. They are given a safety rating called "GRASE" by the FDA, meaning they are "generally regarded as safe and effective". Although the powers that be in the US do not stand behind them 100 percent because of the shortage of scientific studies on their effectiveness, most women who try them report a positive change.

Studies show that men and women alike believe larger breasts are more attractive, so it makes sense that female breast enlargement herbs would be popular. Studies also show that women have better self esteem when they feel good about their bust line, so employing these herbs can have an even more dramatic positive effect on life than just having a drawer full of new bras. Along with a bigger bust line, women get a little more to brag about.

Carol Berman is a health researcher who has been studying natural remedies and supplements for over a dozen years.
