http://grasshopper.com - This is a Pantless Knights tribute to our favorite entrepreneurs (who are all "new dorks"). It's a spoof of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind," from the guys behind Grasshopper.com (thank you!). We made it because there's a new type of dork that is cooler than ever. Look at tech entrepreneurs, hipsters, Computer Science Barbie - they're all super popular new dorks! Don't forget to rate, comment and subscribe!
LYRICS:
Now Im in the blogosphere, Now I'm in the twitterverse
Fans get so immersed, But I'm a nerd forever
I'm the new Zuckerberg, And since my website
I been cookin dough like a chef servin killa-bytes
Used to be the basement, Back at my mom's place
Buildin web traffic so that we could sell an ad space
Make way for the, One man businesses
Bail outs finished with, White collar criminals
New sega genesis, Entrepreneur time
Makin big plans, To dominate the online
Yeah, I'm on YouTube, this is one man
Sharin' google revenue, With songs on my webcam
Science is the new art, Databases day to day
Geeks spreadin' sheet smarts, Hustle, make the data pay
I could be in Valleywag plus Geekologie
Tell from my avatar, That I'm most definitely

The New Dork,
Social networks - what dreams are made of, There's nothing you can't do
Now you're the New Dork
This V.C. money is brand new, The geek is now damn cool
Let's hear it for new dorks, new dorks, new dorks

Catch me up in Techcrunch, Right on the homepage
Hell, I'm on Gizmodo, In a photo bout a phone craze
And Im up in Mashable, weekend trip to New York
Bar pitty, 1oak, parties full of New Dorks
Now I'm pitchin business plans, From the backs of napkans
Micro-lend to Africans, Monetize Kazakastan
Catch me up on linked-in, Dog, C.E.O.
You can see where I be, With the I.P.O.
Now I'm up in skinny jeans, Now a hipster's lurkin'
Used to be a reject, But now I'm steady jerkin'
Now my glasses mainstream, Now the girlies eyein me
Popular kids copy me, The new swag is irony
Comin' from the small time, Girls couldn't find me
Now I scale models, Like I climb on top of Heidi
Start big trends, with tweets that I pass on
You should follow me, cuz I'm friends with Ashton
CHORUS

This is deceptive.

You don't rock all the time. No one does. No one is a rock star, superstar, world-changing artist all the time. In fact, it's a self-defeating goal. You can't do it.

No, but you might rock five minutes a day.

Five minutes to write a blog post that changes everything, or five minutes to deliver an act of generosity that changes someone. Five minutes to invent a great new feature, or five minutes to teach a groundbreaking skill in a way that no one ever thought of before. Five minutes to tell the truth (or hear the truth).

Five minutes a day you might do exceptional work, remarkable work, work that matters. Five minutes a day you might defeat the lizard brain long enough to stand up and make a difference.

And five minutes of rocking would be enough, because it would be five minutes more than just about anyone else.

The printed boarding pass may become a thing of the past, as Trinity Mobile is saying it has seen a 1,200% year-over-year increase in mobile ticketing.

The company provides mobile tickets services for airlines like Austrian Airlines and British Midlands Airways and it sent out over 600,000 mobile boarding passes last year. This is obviously a nascent industry but it is expected to grow rapidly. Trinity said its uptake comes solely from consumer demand because there was no massive marketing push to get the word out about mobile ticketing.

“The massive growth in mobile ticketing is completely driven by the consumer’s need for the fastest, easiest and most affordable way to get tickets,” said Rob Clegg, Trinity’s commercial director, in a written statement.

I’ve used mobile boarding passes the last three times I’ve flown and it has been a decidedly mixed bag. On one cross-country flight, I had to check luggage anyways, so there wasn’t really a time-saving aspect. On the last two shorter flights I’ve taken without check-in luggage, it’s a convenient way to get your ticket or boarding pass if you’re not around a printer. Unfortunately, the airport staff wasn’t the most tech-savvy folks around and it took five scan attempts before I was allowed into the security area.

Overall, I’d say mobile ticketing is convenient but it’s not game-changing. Still, the technology is expanding to more and more airlines and it’s always nice to have more options. Any experiences with mobile tickets and boarding passes? Share them in the comments.

[Via Trinity Mobile, photo via USA Today]

Related News from IntoMobile:

Delta Air Lines rolls out cellphone boarding pass at LaGuardia

Phone as airline boarding pass coming to American Airlines

South Korean airlines to launch mobile check-in services

Air France and Klm expand electronic boarding pass on mobile devices

Continental Airlines trials paperless boarding pass using mobile phones and barcodes

Share this:

Even the conversation behind the filming, and the extensive collection of artifacts from his world travel, are included in this exciting set.

Saul Bass has never been so relaxed and candid with his no holds barred answers to historical
significant questions. Saul discusses his relationship with major directors such as Alfred Hitchcock,
Otto Preminger, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, and Howard Hughes. He also talks about

One lesson I learned from alpine ski racing was the “40-30-30 Rule.” During training, early on, I tried to go fast, and I also focused on not falling. On a ride up the ski lift, my coach told me I was missing the point. He explained that success in ski racing, or most sports for that matter, was only 40% physical training. The other 60% was mental. And of that, the first 30% was technical skill and experience. The second 30% was the willingness to take risks.

Imagine you’re at a conference and want to know something about the people around you. A new mobile application called Recognizr can identify a person’s face via your phone camera and deliver not only profile information about that person but also show you their latest status updates.

Swedish computer vision specialists Polar Rose combined forces with interface designers TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) to create the Recognizr as a prototype application for Android phones to show off Polar Rose’s mobile face recognition library. Polar Rose’s software recognizes individuals, while TAT’s interface uses augmented reality to show profile information from sites like Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn and the latest status updates from the recognized person.

Since in real life it’s unlikely that you’ll go around taking pictures of random strangers, at least unless you can do so discreetly, I asked Polar Rose CTO Jan-Erik Solem what he sees as the main applications of Recognizr. He told me that the most requested scenario is to tag the recognized person in the photo you’ve just taken or to add them to your social networks.

Recognizr uses FaceLib, a mobile face recognition library from Polar Rose, which is available for Android and iPhone. FaceLib can recognize faces in photo or video but, in common with other facial recognition products, is more accurate for photos. Recognizr also uses Polar Rose’s server-side solution FaceCloud because you can’t store profiles of all potential matches in the phone — although recognizing people who are already in the phone’s address book can be handled locally on the device.

The quality of the image you’re targeting with your camera largely determines the accuracy of recognition. In still images, the main problems are poor lighting and focus for some devices. Motion blur and poor lighting are the most difficult cases if running in video mode, where the resolution is also much lower.

Polar Rose has a team of 17 based in Malmö, Sweden and received $5.1M in a first round of funding from Nordic Venture Partners.

It’s a really simple popurls clone, intended for people who are too busy to set themselves up with their own RSS reader, or just fancy a quick glance at the sites I’m reading.

There’s about 130 sites on there right now and I’ll be adding progressively more in the next few weeks.

If you want your site added, feel free to drop me a line @uxurls, but I’m not making any promises. This site is really just intended as a way for me to share the sites I’m reading at the moment, and it’s definitely not intended as an exhaustive catalog of all things UX.

I hope you find it useful!
