As it's the first meeting we're going to meet at 5.20pm in the foyer of the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton so we can say hello first, buy our tickets and have a quick natter beforehand so we know who's who. Green Screens coming to your road

As you may be aware, the traffic calming scheme will include some innovative “green screens” that local people have been campaigning for.

The ethos of the screens is to provide a semi-transparent barrier across the road to oncoming vehicles. The vehicles will need to slow down and manoeuvre round the screen and then proceed down the road.

In the public meetings there was a strong desire for the “green screens” to be different from the normal build-outs and to service more than one purpose. Ideas put forwards were to have very large sized planters built/placed across the road. The planters would be sturdy long lasting construction and allow for sufficient space to be able to grow an extensive range of plants and vegetables in them. In addition there could be fruit trees planted that would be part of a Poets Corner orchard and allotment.

The type of plants/vegetables planted would need to be carefully planned to ensure that they do grow up above the planter to provide visual screening to oncoming vehicles.

Brixton Green is a community led initiative for a multi-million pound redevelopment of the land along Somerleyton Road off Coldhabour Lane. It was set up four years ago and is structured as a cooperative trust owned by people who live or work in Brixton. £1 a share, one share per person, one vote per person.

Health services in the Dulwich area

NHS Southwark is currently engaging with local people about health services and have a survey (which can be completed on paper or online) where people can give us their views.

There is also an engagement document exploring some initial ideas around general practice and urgent care, ante / post natal care, intermediate care and services for elderly people, and supporting people with long term conditions. At this stage these are simply ideas for discussion, so please do use the 'general' section of the form to give your views or feedback about health services more broadly.

Nanny share available from April/May

We are currently in a nanny share arrangement and the other family is planning to drop out around April/May as the mum is giving up work. We want to continue with our nanny, who is really great, so we're looking for a family who needs childcare for one baby/toddler/child, to share the nanny with our two boys.

The details are as follows:

The hours/days are 8am-6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our nanny is also currently available on Mondays so you may be able to employ her for an extra day if needed.

We have two boys, one aged 3 years and the other 10 months. The 3 yr old goes to the Half Moon Montessori Nursery in the afternoons (this might change to mornings in September).

We live in Herne Hill (Brantwood Road - off Poplar Walk and Fawnbrake Avenue, about 7/8 mins walk from the station). We are happy to have the share based entirely at our house (we've recently had an extension which makes it easy to cook whilst keeping an eye on the kids! We also have a good sized garden with climbing frame/slide/sand pit etc). Equally, we're open to basing the share in both houses if that suits better.

Our nanny, Melinda, is great. She was a primary teacher in her native Hungary (her English is excellent) and has plenty of experience looking after children from around 8 months upwards. She takes the kids to lots of groups/activities/the park etc and generally looks after them extremely well - they really like her and so do we!

Thanks to everyone who came along last night - we had eleven people which was certainly more than I was expecting and which made for a very lively and varied discussion.

There was consensus that Tuesdays were the best day of the week, but that The Florence was a bit noisy, and that we'd try out other venues in Herne Hill, starting with The Half Moon next month.

For the book choices, we decided we'd use The Guardian's book-of-the-month, which is here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/series/bookclub

We had discussed starting with the March book, The Forgotten Waltz by Anne Enright, but since that isn't out in paperback until the end of March, I suggest we leave it until next time and delve back into the Guardian's archives to read the February 2011 book instead: The Siege, by Helen Dunmore. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0241952190/

Hi all, I am local nanny looking for a full time job + nanny share for 3 days. I am currently working for a fantastic family in ED. I have 6 years childcare experience from 6 months to 12 years old. Also Ofsted reg, full UK license, CRB and First aid. I am looking for a position where I could work whole week and have my current family as a share family for 3 days.
I enjoy carrying out the activities with children and ensuring they are having fun and enjoying life as much as possible. I adore children and find it easy to connect with them and understand their needs. The child safety always comes first and I put good manners second after that. I have a good communication skills and I have the ability to speak in polite and no offensive way to ensure the best relationship possible. Children learn best through play that is why I like to provide them with the different games and activities like drawing, painting, colouring etc. I’m in good health and I am able to lift children and carry things around and it would not be a problem for me to sit down of the floor and play with children or be at their level as I do not have any medical or health problems. I really enjoy outings with little ones such as playgroups, play dates, playgrounds, parks and museums.

There's a unique opportunity to experience a free open Garuda Matwork class at the Lido, from 10-11am in Studio 2, this Friday 24th February with the highly respected Italian movement specialist, Laura Guarnera. Garuda is an interesting, relatively new relaxation and movement hybrid which is named after a large mythical bird or bird-like creature that appears in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology as a human or animal hybrid divinity, or deva. Garuda for its practitioners is a form of prayer and each class is an organic "journey" which takes pilates, dance and yoga into a varied and creative exercise which stresses rhythm, flow, relaxation and movement. Exercise aims to move from the simple to the complex and is nonjudgemental as it streamlines movement to each individual's potential. Laura Guarnera has been exploring movement for over 30 years. She has a background in dance, pilates, gyrotonic, yoga, Franklin method, Body Mind Centering and Contact Improvisation. She's also a choreographer and performer and her companies “ Trinacria Teatro Danza” and “ Compagnia Guarnera Guy” have won awards. She qualified as a yoga instructor in India and pilates teacher in the UK under the likes of James D'Silva who created Garuda Pilates. She now teaches both to dancers in places like Siobhan Davies Dance Studios. And she's come to the Lido now as well! Joint Effort supports families to live well. The service is developed by Participle (a not-for-profit organisation in Southwark), based on what we've learned from conversations with people from this forum, as well as input from professionals.

We are running free sessions this week (20 - 24th) February to test an early version Joint Effort. During a one hour conversation, we'll talk about practical approaches to find out what might work for you and your family. If you take part, you also help us to further develop this service.

Anyone can still comment on this scheme until March 2nd. The Herne Hill Society has taken a different view and welcomes this scheme. Have a look on our website for our views and whether you agree or not, please feel free to add a comment. The society sent in comments to the developer after the public exhibition and they responded positively agreeing to our suggestion for a new pedestrian way through, a different brick colour and not including pubs or bars. The building is modern but we think it fits in well to the area and so much better than having a derelict site in the village centre.
