Inversion

After over a week of being trapped in an inversion, I’m hoping that Vancouver will soon break free and get back to our usual wet January weather. While the extra sun is appreciated, especially at this time of year, the mountains have had so little snow this year, that I’m really hoping that we get hit with a major pineapple express soon.

A friend of mine, Rob, has a great photo of the Vancouver inversion at sunset.

Battlestar Galactica

A lot of my tv watching friends make fun of me of watching this show, but really, Battlestar is a great show, much better than a lot of the other crap on the boob tube (although, there is more and more good stuff these days). Anyway, I digress.

The show is in its final season and, as I just found out from the BSG website on scifi.com, starts up again on January 16th. Also coming out this year is a BSG movie, with a spin off show called Caprica starting next season. I can’t wait!

iTunes 8.0.2

Last Friday, Apple released iTunes 8.0.2 and let me tell you how happy I am! With the previous version of iTunes on my MacBook, I had to suffer through what felt like an eternity of spinning beach ball of death every time I opened iTunes. At first, I thought it was because I had moved my music collection to a network drive, but after speaking to Zameer and googling, I soon realized that I wasn’t the only one experiencing this pain.

After the update, iTunes loads instantly and is ready to perform any command I tell it. It is also much faster when scrolling my (medium sized => ~2000 songs, 14GB) music collection, switching tasks, downloading podcasts, etc…

If you are experiencing any slow downs in iTunes, you would probably benefit a great deal by updating.

Today, at the paris auto show, Honda unveiled it’s redesigned “mild” hybrid Insight. Expected to get over 45mpg (5.2 L/100Km) and cost about USD$5000 less than the average USD$26,000 price of a Toyota Prius, I expect it will only ensure that American car companies continue to lose market share to their Japanese competition. While Ford continues to produce new vehicles like the Flex (and doesn’t even post fuel consumption estimates on its web site), and is producing a “fuel efficient” hybrid Cadillac Escalade that gets a whole 20 city /21 highway mpg (11.8 city / 11.2 highway L/100Km) with a price tag of over USD$72,000, it’s no wonder!

Error sending message

I love texting, especially on my iPhone, but every once in a while, I’ll try to send a text message only to get a “Error sending message” error. The first couple of times this happened, I thought it was simply a blip on the network, but it only happens with the a few of my contacts. with whom I text often. Today, I found a very simple fix:
On your iPhone, go to:
1. SMS
2. Select the conversation which results in the error message from the “Text Messages” screen.
3. Hit “Clear” in the top right corner under the battery indicator.
4. Text away.
