Happy New Year!

Welcome back cousins! We've missed you all so much. Heycuz is not in full swing yet, as we are getting used to the new software upgrade. You probably noticed right off that there's been some changes. The color change is enough to tip you off. However, its much more than that. The software has had major changes that should allow for a much more efficient exchange of ideas. However, all the parts of the software are not playing nice with each other just yet. We may be jumping the gun getting the site up before all the kinks are worked out, but we couldn't stand it any longer.

So, if things aren't working as good as they should be, please be patient. If you do want to make some changes, please notice that the log in area is separate for now. To make changes, you must log in. To do that go to the menu link titled "Our Families" and click on the "Log In" link found at the top of the left-hand column. Enter your previous user name and password.

On a personal note, I want to especially thank Robert Barnhill for his donation toward the purchase of a new server for Heycuz. Robert went above and beyond by asking what he could do to help Heycuz in its time of need. We all appreciate it Robert! Once again, our cousins have shown what a blessing it is to be a part of this great big family and how we must continue to strive to preserve our family histories and continue our genealogical research. It can give us all hope for a prosperous new year.

NOTE: I wrote this for my personal blog 'Notes While Surfing' and realized that my cousins over at Heycuz.net might be interested. So, I'm reposting it here.

Are you going to go out of town for the Labor Day weekend? This year, we're getting four days off. We are going to be visiting with some family at least one of the days. So, its a great time to put my new mobile apps to use. I got an iPhone last Christmas (thank you dear hubby!) and its really made life easier. The "Around Me" app alone really saved us when we were in Texas this summer for my nephews wedding and couldn't locate the hotel. After the third time around the block, I pulled out my phone, put in the name of the hotel and it showed us exactly what turns to make to get there. Really cool. Playing with "Around Me" some more, we found local museums and other hot spots. As an addicted genealogist, of course I had to pull up directions for the local libraries and cemeteries.

How To Edit Family Tree Information

I put together a short video tutorial to show you how to edit information in the Heycuz Database. It also shows you how to add notes and add children. I've been getting a lot of requests to update existing information and, unfortunately, my time is limited and the whole reason I created the website is so members can update the information as needed. Many of the people in the heycuz database are not in my direct line, so I'm not the best source for keeping their information up to date anyway, you are. Please click on the read more button below to view the video.

My mother and her sisters often spent time with a relative (cousin?) that I believe was on the Sullivan side. My mother and all her siblings are now gone. I have been working on my family history off and on for several years, but more often lately. several years ago, this cousin gave me a copy of some work her daughter had done. See also told me that she had the family Bible given to her by her mother. I'm pretty sure it was the Sullivan family.

I can't find any Rena Lee in my tree. Her married name was Fox and she lived in the Brentwood/Franklin area. She was close in age to my mom and her sisters, so she probably has passed on by now, but Iwould like to know the connection to my family. My mom was Ervine Wilkes, her sisters were Ola, Elizabeth, and Dorothy.

Can someone out there help me make the connection?
