March Madness 2010 Contest

Seeing as how over 600 people participated in last years March Madness contest, I figured tonight would be as good a time as any to set up this year’s rodeo. After the fiasco with Yahoo last year, I spurned their fancy-pants scoring system and turned to ESPN. Here’s the official HIF group (password is hiffers) and in order to be considered for prizes, join up and make your picks before the first game at noon on Thursday, March 18.

As for the prizes:¹

First Place: $100 GC
Second Place: $50 GC
Third Place: $25 GC

Trust me, you don’t have to have any idea what you’re doing in order to have fun or play. I blindly pick teams and still managed to come in like 9th place last year. I don’t even watch pro basketball, let alone college, but having a bracket gives you the perfect excuse to slack off from working and cheer for a random team you’ve never heard of.

Just don’t pull a Goob, as my friends call it, and routinely cheer for a team that you actually picked to lose. There’s no word for the emotional gut wrench that comes moments after realizing such an idiotic mistake.

Speaking of energy drinks, I could go for one right now. It seems that I was born without the enzymes or proper cell count or whatever it is that allows most people to go “hey, you know what? Free Tear-Aid Patch

With summer fast approaching (ABOUT TIME!), I should start blowing up all of my inflatable rafts and tubes. Of course, I guarantee some will have mysteriously gained a hole or tear while doing nothing more than sitting in my closet for the winter. Okay, that’s not true, as I’ve been known to ride them down stairs in the wee hours of the morning, but I’m sure that played no part in damaging them.

No worries though, as I found these free Tear-Aid patches today. Just make sure you don’t confuse them with eye patches. It’s one of the many dangers I face with my compulsive desire to be a pirate.

Free True Lemon

These free True Lemon samples have been around for ages (since 2006!), but I thought I’d post them again for all the new Hiffers who have come on board over the past year. This is actually a product I point to when I talk about how freebies sometimes turn me into a paying customer, as I now buy two boxes a month.

Every day I drink enough water to fill a small pool, but it can get a bit bland. Enter True Lemon. It’s a much better alternative to my past method of spicing things up, which was to actually put tabasco sauce in my water. Let’s just say: lesson learned.

It’s not actually 200 years long, but instead contains about 30 minutes worth of classic Chopin music. Not to be confused with Chaplin music. I thought this might be some long-lost stand-up of his.

Next up is an NPR music at SXSW sampler on iTunes. It contains 11 songs from random artists, so hopefully you’ll find at least one or two that you enjoy.

Sam’s Club’s head of marketing is ticked off again! She’s demanding a member ID for these free Pampers Dry max diapers, so I take it she had another rough morning. Perhaps another pet was introduced to the electric razor or maybe while in the shower, her bed became the scene of a new Jackson Pollock painting.

You know, her imaginary kids sound pretty wild. I think they need a night or two of Babysitter Goob to whip them into shape. I’m like Mary Poppins, but instead of singing and dancing, I use pranks and scary voices to inflict terror. Which means I’m actually nothing like Mary Poppins at all.

With this free Everlast supplement, you get to choose from Energy or Recovery. I went with recovery, because I’m hoping that if I use it despite not exercising, maybe I can trick my body into thinking I exercised. It’s part of my long-term goal to get in shape without ever working out.

Actually, wait, don’t do that. Why am I helping make my job obsolete? Ignore my previous advice and, uh, instead get rid of your computer! There, now you can’t sign up for that newsletter.

Wait a minute, then you can’t read HIF. Ugh, I honestly never got the hang of this self-promotion business.
