The auction will be at Chester Enterprises, just north of the Beardstown bridge near the junction of Routes 67 and 100. This auction is one of several annual events that keep the Habitat ministry alive and energized. It’s a fundraiser. It’s entertainment, with some of the region’s best auctioneers at the microphone. It’s lunch. It’s an opportunity for Habitat’s widely spread family of volunteers to meet in fellowship before the summer building season.

The success of Habitat’s auction depends on the quality and quantity of items donated to the sale. This is a golden opportunity to peek in the attic or the garage; find that dusty treasure that you always wanted to use, some day, and put it to work right now. Let it stand in the sunshine of the auctioneer’s table where it will work two miracles: it will bring joy to the winning buyer and it will contribute to building the next Habitat house.

Habitat is accepting new and good used items as donations to the auction. You can bring items to the auction site on Friday April 3rd from 4 to 7 PM, or on the day of the auction any time after 8:30 AM. Gift certificates are welcome, but please don’t offer alcohol, food or clothing. To coordinate donations call Janet Detrick 217-322-3583 or Megan Rebman 217-491-1715.

Painting is Done, Doors are in, cabinets in

We now need to move appliances into the house that are in the trailer. If you haven't see our trailer, its worth a look. Last year, a group of Rushville High School students led by art instructor Jason Ackman, did a wonderful mural on the side of our storage semi-trailer. Its a great advertisement for our affilliate and obviously great on site storage for our material.

Having said that, we are working toward completing the many punch list items that stand between us and handing over the keys to the new soon to be homeowner. Most likely, each Saturday between now and the yet unscheduled dedication will be an opportunity to volunteer at the project.

Painting, Cabinets, Siding (Feb 7th)

The Kitchen is really taking shape as the paint is up, flooring is down and the cabinets are in place. A big thank you to him for his hard work to complete this. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to hang the drywall and blow in insulation into the attic.

It is now time to paint ! While a good portion of this can be done by Brigitte, we could use your help. Many people have expressed their desire to help with interior painting and now is your time to shine!

Future work days will include interior doors and trim, installing kitchen and bathroom cabinets and fixtures, closet shelving, and many of the small detail items that make a structure a home.
In addition, there is still some outdoor work to complete as the weather allows.
Thanks for your help and service to this organization and its mission.

Looking for a few helpers to blow in the attic insulation

Thanks to everyone who helped with the drywall. There is just a tiny little bit left to do. The finishers will be starting on Monday the 22nd. The furnace has been hooked up. Being good stewards of our finances, we need to make sure that all of the insulation is in place before running the heater. This means that we need to blow the insulation into the attic. Dave Snyder would like to work with a few people to accomplish this task. Ideally, he would like to do this on Thursday (yes that is tomorrow) in the morning, or sometime on Friday. This certainly could be during the day. Would you have a few hours to work with him on Friday? If we can get this done, we will be essentially done with volunteers for the rest of December. It will take the finishers about 10 days to do what they need to do. If we can’t get it done on Friday, we’ll be calling for anyone who might be available on Saturday. This is fairly easy work – I am told.

If you have any time in your schedule, please call Dave directly at 217-491-5825.

Almost ready for Drywall finishing

We still need some help this Saturday to finish the little bit of drywall that needs to be hung. If we can get a good group together, we should be able to knock this out in no time. The drywall finishers are anxious to get started.

The gas service is now installed and we will soon have the heat we need for the finishers. If all goes well, they should be done in about a week. Then painting, interior doors, floor coverings, kitchen work and the many many small details that go into finishing a home will be all that stand between Brigitte and her new home.

Please come join us on Saturday at 8 AM. The work is indoors and will be warm !
Call me if you have any questions.

Progress Continues on Habitat House

There is a lot going on at the Habitat house in Beardstown. The siding is close to complete and drywall is going up on the inside. Thanks to the help of Ernie Bolen and many volunteers, we are making great progress toward completion. We would really like to get Brigitte and her family in this new home as soon as possible.

Do you have experience with construction or maybe just a heart to help a family in need? We can still use YOUR help on this project. Give me a call or an email and we wil definately get you plugged in.

There will hopefully be an opportunity to hang some drywall this Tuesday afternoon November 25th. If you have time that afternoon and would like to help, let me know. The sooner we can get the drywall all hung, the sooner we can bring in the finishers to do their magic.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped us bring the project to where we are. I will have updated pictures of the project posted this week.

This Saturday Night November 15th ! ! !

Hey gang,

Don't forget, Saturday November 15th at 7 PM, Central Illinois area Southern Gospel Quartet Two By Two will appear in a benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity of Cass and Schuyler Counties on Saturday November 15th at 7 PM.
